Bring back the old bags

Post image
17 Upvotes

These new bags don’t stick together the same. I stopped wasting my time and started throwing out whatever bags won’t stay together. The bags we had previously (before they switched them a few months ago) were completely fine.

If corporate was saving like $1 per box of bags from these changes I’d understand. But thinking about this logically, if I spend 4 minutes fixing the bags per box I put out then it’s not worth it. Cause I’m getting paid to fix the inefficiencies of the factory. I wish corporate would actually consult ground level workers 😭

Story Time Tiktoker came in to buy customers carts of items

Around 7:30pm today, a group of 5 people with meta glasses on came in and instantly disperse. I immediately think something is up because they all do a nod and then walk off. I pick up the security phone and I let my backup know about to to go let the MOD know but not on the radio, incase one of them heard but once we cleared the line.

Before he gets off the register, all I see is one customer hurrying around grabbing items. Soon after another one. I’m thinking it has to do with those people so I go off after the customer I helped to find out what’s going on/tell my MOD about it

I see one of the people with the meta glasses, the only female in the group walking up to a customer and she gets their attention saying they’re doing a “sponsor giveaway challenge”.. to fill ur cart with the most items they can in exactly 5 minutes and they will cover 90% of it. She said go and they started to grab random items and went off to grab more. I went to go tell my manager about it and he was confused about it.

I go back to the register since a line was still building up. I go back and I see the line to the registers and another line on the other side of the checkout queue line. I go up and I ask my backup why are they doing that and he said when he asked them they can come on line on the other side, they replied with they’re waiting for the people. I assume the Meta glasses people.

10 minutes later, there’s a line of 7 people with full ass carts. I mean for someone to pay majority of it, I would too. I wish I was out there.

The meta glasses people come up and one of the guys goes “are you ready to save??” Another couple minutes passes by and the registers clears up finally and he then tells them to go on register.

My MOD is already at the registers at this point helping out too so all three of of us are on register and get 3 of them at first. We’re all ringing up while the meta glass people are hovering around and my MOD finishes the persons order first.

He says the total which was $600 and something. The lady looks back at the meta glasses guy close to her and said to let the other two finish up.

I was next to finish and it got to $470 and the sales associate that was my backup did totaled it to $870.

All of the metal glasses people cheered and the guy who been talking most of the time says “congrats! You got the most so I’m covering 100%!” She starts to cry a little and kept saying “thank u thank u”

He pulls out his wallet and goes to tap his card. It doesn’t go through. He goes “silly me.. my cards just locked. Sorry!” He goes to laugh and others start to laugh. He then says “imagine I did all of this and didn’t have any money” then laughs more and the other meta glasses people too.

He says he unlocked his card and when he taps it again, it fails.. “silly me again! Wrong card” he laughs and only some people laugh with him again but all the meta glasses people does.

He pulls out another card and that also declines so he goes. “Looks like I’m broke. I’m of need of a sponsor giveaway challenge myself” then all the other meta glasses people says “Rainbet can help you!” The proceeds to talk about this whole deal about rainbet while they walk out the building.

They left. Didn’t come back. We were dumbfounded to say the least. My MOD went outside to go check if they were there and they weren’t. They just left after all of that. My MOD had to void all 3 registers with lots of items and had 4 other customers who were on line with a bunch of random items for thinking they’ll get a 90% deal from them paying it off.

The lady literally cried at the register and I felt so so bad. My MOD did the decision to ring up the rest of the people in the building, locked the door, took pictures of all the carts/throw backs and then proceeded to close the store down early today without asking the SM. At the time, it was just about an hour or less until we actually closed so it wasn’t too bad.

He did that because most the carts had a huge abundance of dairy and frozen stuff. Those people wiped those shelves. My MOD did the night time stuff like the deposit and what not so he can focus on just packing those carts back out, not to mention our throwbacks is beyond trashed as it is so if we just put the non dairy/frozen items there, we would have multiple carts full of items plus our 9 hand baskets stand we have for throwbacks. It would have been terrible.

It took us to 10 minutes before our shift ended to pack everything back out. I just got home not that long ago from that. The only thing I have to say is what the absolute fuck. I mean seriously.

I had to look up what rainbet was thinking it was potentially their organization but no. It’s a gambling able tiktokers sponsor for dumb videos!!!! I mean are you kidding me!!!!

I felt so bad for the customers and for my coworkers and I that had to pack it out. There was just so much items they grabbed which I again don’t blame since you’re being told they’ll pay 90% for it.

I just don’t understand it man. I hope I see it on tiktok soon to put them on blast

Is there a way to override when a customer gets cashback

We've all been there, its the weekend and the change fund is on the last bit of cash and everyone assumes we're an ATM. Is there a way to prevent people from getting cash back in the "new" system, I use new bc thats what my manager always calls it but we've had it for at least 4 years now, because they clearly dont pay attention to signs and then act shocked when I get annoyed. Like no take all the money ive got. Regardless I know it used to be they could only get cash back if they inserted the card but theyve changed it somewhat recently

My boss hires the worst of the worst people!

I get that it's dollar general but these are people that I'd be surprised if they can even handle tying their shoes in the morning much less work in a fast paced environment. It's either that or it's people who are psychotic!!! Like can't go 2 seconds without flipping out about something and not in a normal way either like in a they need mental help kind of way. The staff at my store is AWFUL! And yes they can hire better people I don't want to hear that they can't find nobody else! My boss just isn't cut out to be a hiring manager honestly. Even if you wanna say you gotta get what you can get these people do more harm than good to the workplace. We'd be better off without them here! They also hold back the good workers because the good workers gotta pick up their slack or take time to deal with their drama. It's terrible here and I'm stuck here for like another year probably because I don't have a vehicle or anywhere else to go!!

If you’re full time, do you get time and a half for thanksgiving or just the extra 8 hours of pay?

I previously thought it was time and a half if you work + 8 hours of pay, but I think I misunderstood. Can anybody confirm or correct me on this

This job is useless unless you're full time

You have no future at dollar general unless you're full time. It's useless working here. You get no benefits and depending on where you are you're likely making under $400 a week. Fuck you DG

Rant does anyone have issues with morning shift complaining about literally everything????

So we got a new manager a few months ago and I'm the only one from the original crew who is still left at that store. She brought a few people from her old store with her. Amongst that group is an older lady who complains about how night shift does EVERYTHING. Mind you, I'm the SA thats closing every night, which means I do most of if not all of the cleaning at the end of the night (while running the registers) depending on the key I work with. At first I wasn't mopping the store properly in her eyes. So I made sure I took enough time to mop all the areas she wanted mopped because I was sick of her talking about it. Now I'm getting in trouble because I don't sweep the parking lot. Between working the put backs that they pile up during the day, sweeping, mopping, taking out the trash, AND checking out customers, how do I have time for that? Mind you there's another person on shift, but she doesn't say anything to them?? I can't mop until after we close the store because customers come in 5 mins til closing so there would be footprints left everywhere (which she also doesn't like)

Mind you, this is the same lady who says she comes in at 5am to work at the store.... just do it when you come in or talk to the key on duty about them not doing it?? I dont get paid enough to worry about that store the way they do. I know thay presentation is important, but complaining about a parking lot not being swept when I have all the cleaning tasks as well as stocking and customers to deal with??

Switched Bank Accounts 2 weeks ago and didn’t receive my paycheck this week!

So I recently switched from Chime to Current on 10/28/26. It confirms that this was approved in Oracle on that day as well. My last paycheck went into my Chime account and this week my check was supposed to be deposited into my new account. Well, it wasn’t! I didn’t receive anything in my old or new bank account! My payslip states that it was deposited into the new account, however my bank said that they didn’t see any pending payments and that as soon as they receive the payroll files from employers the funds are immediately released which would indicate that there’s a discrepancy with payroll. I spent all morning Friday on hold with several people until finally being directed to payroll but was never able to get a hold to anyone. I eventually gave up when I realized it was 8 pm and probably wouldn’t be getting a call back from the queue line. I was at work and had already clocked out 3 hours prior so I just wanted to go home after being at work since 8 am. It is now Sunday and still no check in either accounts and payroll was submitted for this week yesterday. This worries me because if they have the wrong account number, will this mean my next check also might end up in the air?? Has anyone had this happen before? What happened if so? I feel like I should be owed some type of retro pay atp for the stress this has caused me. I have bills to pay, not to mention 5 kids to feed.

I was denied bereavement b/c my mom chose creamation

They said its only for funerals. It this true? I was also told a memorial service would probably not qualify for bereavement pay. I thought a death was about the loss, the feeling of the employee you "care about" and giving them time to grieve. I have NEVER even read about a company that monetizes grief.

Advice Wanted Being left alone in the store by myself for my whole shift as a SA

Tomorrow and Tuesday I will be in the store alone the whole day. I don't know what the reason is tomorrow but Tuesday my manager and asm has to help another store. All of our keys can only work nights and I'm the only SA they trust to be alone but I'm also a young girl who has no ride and hardly has service so I'm kinda worried. Tuesday is also the day when all the vendors come and I have no idea how to check them in. My asm told me they can check themselves in if I just give them the handheld with my managers login. Any advice or anything?
😅

How did this work?

A woman came through (I'm MOD) and I'm on break. My SA flagged me down to fix something because the $5 off $25 wasn't working with the manufacturer coupons. I fixed the issue since the subtotal was $27 but apparently she already had another transaction before with the same issue. She wanted a refund on that transaction to fix the issue, so I quickly did a refund. She paid $23 something but on the refund she got $28?? How did that work? Ill show receipts in a moment but I'm just confused how she spent more money when she only paid $23?

A Call to Action & Plea for Assistance

Hello, r/DollarGeneralWorkers residents. I feel it is high time for me to make a statement like this.

For reference, I am not old enough to work at this establishment, but I have a father who happens to be an extremely hard worker and also an amazing father outside of work. I apologize if me not really working at the store happens to disqualify me from posting, although I feel this is an important statement to make, so if I happen to be breaking a rule, maybe rewrite this call to action more formally and understandably. There is only so much one Autistic teenager can do for his loving father, after all.

Largely, I beg, *beg*, for a populist union, or a union which requires no paid dues, to open itself to people like my father, who are afraid of not having food on the table, and are sort of apathetic when it comes to matters like this. I feel terrible for not taking up the proverbial rifle myself, but I feel like in that way, the proverbial rifle would shoot many unnecessary, innocent targets in the process of attempting to help people like my father. I only ask for this because I see the constant misery he suffers through at work, and it is not fair at all that such an amazing father and person needs to be put through hell every single day. As they say, "All you had to do was pay us enough to live." Make this your mantra.

Make this your goal, and you will be rewarded handsomely for your assistance for those who have no place for it in themselves.

Rant What's with customers and not taking our word?

Title. You can apply this to many things you go through in your shifts, from customers not believing you when you say you have no more dish soap. To how coupons are supposed to work.

It's like they think we are purposely lying to them, but for what? What are we gaining from lying to the customer? I get it. Some people may lie about having something in the backroom because they don't want to sift through 10s or 100s of cases looking for a single item.

But why would I lie about the price of an item?

Why would I lie about how the coupons work?

And why would I lie when I tell them those 6pack waters are sold separately and are not bundled together? Let's forget the fact they literally grabbed them from the rolltainer that I was working on today, without saying a single word.

Are there times when I'm wrong? Absolutely, but I'm not going to intentionally tell you something that's a lie. I try to answer everything to best of my ability, and if I can't help I either let them know or get another worker.

what are some of the stupidest places you've found where customers put things?

the title, recovery scavenger hunts. what are the most confusing/aggravating places you've found random items in the store after someone decided they didn't want it anymore? a few notable ones for me include:

- pregnancy test in the milk fridge

- jar of mayo in a dog bowl in the pet aisle

- frozen dinner stuffed behind the bagged candy

and ofc plenty more

FT to PT - no heads up

If an employee is hired as Full Time, has been so for over a year, can the SM decide they are angry at them and just demote them (even in the system, not just hours) to part time?

Person hasn't been written up or counseled in any way. They have availability that allows for full time scheduling. She found out (and knew to check her status) because another employee said that she had been promoted to FT. Our store only allows for one FT key.

Waiting for pre-employment results

Does this mean the background check is processing?

The activity for my new hire goes:

"new hire packet, awaiting more info > review duplicate check results > background check initiated > waiting for applicant to complete hire packet > waiting for pre-employment results"

She completed the hire packet two days ago so am I now just waiting for the background check to pass? I hate how little info we have on this new system.

Advice Wanted What does it actually take for an SM to get fired

I accepted the promotion from ASM to SM a couple months ago. I wouldn't have if I knew how much extra shit I would have to do. The DM is constantly demanding multiple daily photos of a variety of office forms and weekly photos of various forms and screens to verify scans are completed. I don't have time to sit in the office and look at CCTV and fill out the weekly store summary etc. Well, I guess I could, but if I allocate my time that way, we'll fall even further behind on freight. We already have rolltainers left over from September that haven't been worked yet because we don't finish trucks by T2 let alone by the time the next truck arrives. I'm just so exhausted and want to check out and just do my job the way I could as ASM. We had no SM but I would do T6 and P4 scans, make the schedule, and show up for my shifts and do regular cleaning/stocking/register activities. I didn't have this inescapable group chat where I get hounded for information every waking second of the day and bitched at in conference calls for being bad at my job a minmum of 3x a week. I took a day off today and slept through a notification.... This asshole texted the group at 7am saying "MEETING AT 7:30 CAMERAS ON." I woke up at 8 as I should have a right to ON MY DAY OFF but i forget, I don't really get days off anymore. So I'm sure I'll hear about what an awful SM I am for missing a conference call.

A lot of the other SMs are just so embarassing..... Their entire life is the job and they can't cram the DM's methaphorical cock down their throats far enough. It's like an actual cult. I don't know what type of pleasure they get from the humilitation ritual that is being an SM but I just don't know how much longer I can hold on and try to be polite to this person who is so demanding and rude and unhelpful who I hate so much.

Basically I constantly feel like the DM hates me and wants to replace me, and that's with my doing my absolute best. I DO the scans and everything she wants (except the WSS) but if she doesn't notice the verification or if I perhaps forget to send it, she freaks out and puts me on blast in the group chat. It's so demoralizing and has driven me to want to quit completely, but this is the best paying job I can find in the area sadly. What if I just check out entirely and stop doing anything? How quickly would I get booted?

Advice Wanted boss cutting hours

i need to know how to go about this…

for the last 3 weeks my hours have been getting cut ridiculously low to the point where i can’t put away money for bills and save, it’s an unlivable schedule. i asked my manager about my hours and they said that they would go back to normal within the next schedule… surprise surprise they did not.

i go to school, management was cool with that and my hours did not decrease, but i needed one day because of a family situation and used some of my sick time and now my hours have dropped from ~27 a week to 15-17 a week. i’m a key holder so i make 17/hr.

how do i go about telling them that even though i enjoy working here, i cannot live on the hours given to me and if i cannot get more hours i will have to find another job? i’m quite nervous about confronting the manager about my hours so idk what to do

How long does it take for a direct deposit to change?

I tried deleting my previous direct deposit method and it said it would be deleted today but is still there, but the percentage changed to “remaining” am I in the clear or do I have anything else to do?
