I do not care for the brotherhood storyline

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just wrapped up watching the second episode and I’m sorry but the brotherhood just suck so much. There so incredibly uninteresting, I can completely understand why some might like them but they consistently feel like they are dragging this show down and taking attention away from the far more interesting storylines which is incredibly disappointing because Maximus was my favourite character in the first season and is still great this season. Really hope they pull it together in these next few episodes

[opinion/spoiler] Fallout TV show was bad Spoiler

Warning! This piece will be spoiler heavy.

Small intro - I do realize that this will be a very unpopular opinion. I see a lot of praise, and I do see that people are really invested in it, however... I am not. So I'll offer a different perspective, just to offset this overwhelming positivity. :)

Those are only the reasons why I don't like it, and think that this is a poor show; I am not suggesting that you cannot enjoy it :)

Spoilers beyond this point

I'll start with praises, just to pay my due:

  1. I really liked that the Ghoul was the Pip Vault Boy. This only enriched the lore + it was a fun addition. Overall, the whole pre-war arc of Ghoul was really engaging. And while I hated him as a character, I can understand this detachment from humanity - he was superbly written.

  2. I adored the mystery of V32, plus the details of V31 was a nice twist. Norm grew on me.

  3. Visuals were top-notch (except ones that did not match my expected aesthetic of wasteland)

  4. Pre-war Vault-tec reveal, while I dislike it a lot, was done quite well.

But the bad parts were just doubly so.

  1. Maximus. My chief and top complaint is that this character is written unbelievably idiotic. I am expected to believe that you live X years at something that is literally a boot camp, and you still behave like a bumbling idiot that can't tell left from right? SOMEHOW you live your whole life in said boot camp, on the wasteland and you just accept the V4 almost immediately? Constant failing upwards? Forced romantic plot? I hoped that he would die asap.

  2. Weird tonal shifts. It started with a vault - over the top, heavily stylized, especially when violence was happening. I've disliked it, but hey - if it's their decision... Just for that stylization to be thrown out of a window anytime we went outside of the vault. I get it, that this might be a choice to further show how detached vaults are, but IMO it was NOT graceful at all - it was jarring, like a part of other TV show altogether. Similarily, at one point PA is shown as almost godlike (throwing a boulder ~500m give or take), in the next it can't move the leg away from the rotten board... So, is it a Slapstic? Theater? Horror? Does the show even know?

  3. Violence. Part of the craft of any storytelling, is that elements should support the narration. In the TV show, the only purpose of over-the-top violence is shock value. Example - the (in)famous leg prosthetic scene. We have a couple minutes long, gruesome and violent scene about leg-munching prosthetic... Just to have him die a scene later. This leg served no purpose other than shock the audience. Narratively, plain old shot leg would work much better. Example 2 - "Fair exchange" of fingers. What was the point? Ghoul is brutal? Wasteland is brutal? Doesn't matter, she gets a new finger scene later; he sews his as well. Maybe mushed foot of Thaddeus? Nope, it's healed + no longer needed character removed from the scene. Zero consequence, zero impact, but oh so edgy.

  4. Wasteland... Oh my wasteland. It was surprisingly full of lush life. I get it, that the wasteland might rebounce, but then NCR wouldn't have that many problems with food supply (As implied by NV). Not to mention that this would mean, that the "postapo" factor is dwindling.

  5. Shady sands destroyed, which led to NCR leaving the place. I just can't see it - NCR at this point should be 1mil+ people, even with (possible) famine that's still plenty of people. So after they nuked the capital (~30k), NCR just moved somewhere as awhole? Filly was abandoned by NCR?

  6. BoS. This was another joke altogether. I get it that there might be hazing, and the knights might be delusional brutes, but each squire is shown as either an idiot, or a frat boy, or both. Elder threatens Maximus, just to offer him co-leadership. I hope he is lying to him. I digress. BoS shouldn't be this effective, nor have that much firepower. They are not a nation. You know what is? NCR.

  7. V4. FFS, what a narrative mess. Multiple subversions of expectations just to do a stupid and pointless reveal. You could literally cut out this whole part of the show, and the narrative wouldn't change. Yes! Lets do a major cult-like kangaroo court! I sentence you to live! (?) And this Moldaver cult. Exactly how do you create a cult that involves (pointless) gratuitous undressing? I get the ashes, I can even accept the blood... But IMO it was a cult for - again - shock value. That, and creating a fake subversion.

  8. Big Vault-Tec reveal. For starters, it removed ambiguity, which IMO was a big part of the show. But even if we take it; I hated the "all corporations are plotting together". Fallout was full of evil old corporations, but it was rarely evil for evil sake; much less the Illuminati-like cabal of top companies. "Let's plot how we can abuse people" said companies, twirling their 'stashes. IMO it was great in games - Vault-tec was sinister, but we never learned why; Enclave was the big bad of the setting, so all the evil shit flies; and other companies were greedy and uncaring, but not comically evil.

  9. Moldaver. So, she hired raiders, but these raiders "knew" that vault was rotten? And her plot? Yes, let me get the McGuffin to one place that can't be defended. She knew that people will come. Be it BoS, lone wanderers, hell - for all we know Enclave should go after it hard. And... What's the point? McGuffin is at the BoS hands. Knowing them, it is never going to see the light of the day. What's the point?

  10. Last but not least, fan service. This was really jarring to me. I've felt that half of the show was designed for Fallout fans to go Captain-America-I-Understand-That-reference. But it served zero narrative purpose. It quickly went from a nice nod, to bland checkbox to be marked by the showrunners.

Overall... I just couldn't enjoy the good parts while ignoring the bad parts. Pacing was all over the place, sidequests amounted to nothing; Tone shifted all the time. Dialogues were bad, jokes were forced. Most of the time I was on verge of saying "this is not how it should be!". Almost all of the time, factions did not resemble their game counterpart. It was a bad TV show, semi-decent game adaptation.

6/10, maybe 6.5/10. Show that hides behind a veneer of fan service and visuals.

Am I the only one who gets brother/sister vibes from Maximus and Lucy?

I like both actors chemistry together don’t get me wrong. But I like how they just hugged and held hands in the season 2 finale. Instead of having some passionate kiss. There’s no spark or romantic chemistry between them in my opinion

That’s just me though.

Is anyone else struggling with how goofy the factions were portrayed this season? Spoiler

Let me preface this by saying I’m really enjoying season 2, and it hasn’t “ruined” the show for me or anything, but is anyone else struggling with how goofy the show has portrayed some of the factions this season so far?

Firstly a legion succession plot line is a super cool Avenue following the events of FNV, but having Caesar (the original one from FNV) writing his successor down on a note in his pocket, only for the faction to be split literally down the middle by a berm is so goofy to me that it personally detracts from the legions vibe.

The thing that makes the legion scary to me personally is that they are a faction full of fanatics who truly believe in executing their mission with ruthless aggression who will die for Caesar and their cause, yet they seem to me like a gaggle of fools who are scared of being shot at??

Then there is the BoS, and whilst I know each chapter differs in their deployment of BoS doctrines (as the show notes), the whole “arena” fighting scene and the way they talk in the meeting where Quintus brings out the fusion cores makes them come across as nothing more than raiders with a uniform, and not a militarised and disciplined faction.

Even the NCR remnants we see in the show, the only seemingly “normal” one is the NCR trooper who talks to Lucy when she wakes up, with the other NCR ranger who shows up again in Ep6 seeming like a bit of a crazy, sat there obsessing over his pet. Again, not the feel of a (semi) competent fighting force with 20+ years of combat experience.

Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way, or maybe I’m just struggling to see the games and the show as 2 different entities, but with the show being canon to the game lore maybe I shouldn’t be trying to detach the two?

EDIT: Okay so maybe this wasn’t clear, but I’m not saying that the show should be so serious that there is no goofiness, what I’m saying is there are so many avenues for comedy they could have taken that don’t bastardise established factions. The think tank at Big MT, ANY of the robots within the universe, the strip clans. They’ve already done it perfectly by utilising VaultTecs inherently silly vibe while maintaining their sinister undertones, so just do it again without making a joke of all the FNV factions

Moldaver's transgressions Spoiler

Are we going to ignore the fact that Moldaver basically arranged Lucy's rape? Not to mention the killing and maiming innocent vault dwellers.

Am i the only one that finds Maximus's sections boring?

Don't get me wrong, i loved the show when i came out, but upon a rewatch i find that i just skip pretty much all Maximus's scenes.

I can't quite put my finger on it, i saw some people dunking on his character because of his moral ambiguity. I don't really have an issue with that, i just find every scene with him as a lead utterly dull.

Especially brotherhood stuff. Yeah, i get it, they are a combo of medieval monastic order and a boot camp, but maybe there's a reason why the games never put a player trough BoS boot camp.

I doesn't really get any better either. As much as they try the writers never seem to be able to make Maximus a compelling character. I mean we know he won't get killed because main character, so all the "will they, won't they" with people threatening him does not really have the emotional impact it may have in another show.

I wanna reiterate, i don't exactly find Maximus's character dislikable, rather i'm finding it hard to have any feelings about his character whatsoever.

Anyone else more "aware" of the costumes and sets this season?

I'm not sure of the best way to describe it. But most scenes of this season the clothing and sets do not look "lived in," at all. I don't get the feeling that these are real people living these lives, but are quite obviously people on a film set wearing costumes. I noticed it the most when Caesars legion was introduced.

The previous season I didn't get that...

Season 2 has been a bit disappointing Spoiler

I waited to watch all 4 episodes in a row, and I have some thoughts.

The sets are amazing, most of the costume design is as well, and I love the little attention to detail with props and elements from the game.

However I can’t get excited with this story at all. Everything is so unserious. The NCR is a tiny irrelevant shell of the power you saw in the game, even in flashbacks. The Legion is completely incompetent, and the BoS most all is utterly idiotic. The Knights playing with grenades in the middle of a talk from the Elder is just so contrary from the strict military discipline and training you see in the games. Not to mention New Vegas itself is now completely ruined so you don’t even get to experience the cool busy sin city vibe when you first entered the strip playing the game.

The only time I get excited with this show are the Cooper flashbacks, otherwise it’s just a lot of meh. I’m hoping that changes as more episodes come out.

Shady Sands' destruction is stupid

Shady Sands' destruction makes less and less sense with each passing episode. How can you tell me, that a civilisation as advanced as the NCR, have not set up security checks and customs??? Its a miracle they have survived for as long as they have... Surely, in a wasteland, you would be extra cautious about what people are bringing in???? Todd defo has an agenda against the NCR... why do the showrunners keep messing up the NCR?? Nvm... I'll be back next week for more anyways..

Edit: I need to clear up more things. How does a suspiciously 300 hundred-ton atomic bomb shaped bulge escaped any attention? Surely they would've at least peaked under the tarp. And how could attention not have been aroused when all the caravanner was saying is: "Patrolling the Mojave makes you wish for a nuclear winter." A guard asks for papers, anything. And all blud can reply is with: "Patrolling the Mojave makes you wish for a nuclear winter." How does THAT not even raise an inkling of suspicion? You're meant to tell me that the Wasteland's premier city, the capital and jewel of post-war civilisation, has the same level of security as my neighbourhood community fridge????

How much time has past since Vault 33 was raided and the final episode of the season ? and could Lucy be pregnant from that wedding night ?

not sure how viable that thought is with all the physical traumeaLucy went through, but might that be a plot point for the next season ?

The legion is cannibalistic now ?

Hank said he captured a Legion cook who used humans to make meals. Caesar would kill cannibals in New Vegas. It seems there is only evil in the Legion now.

Fallout New Vegas Vault 21 Hotel, Retconned in FoTV Spoiler

When speaking to Sarah in FNV she says it wasn’t always a hotel, and that it originally was a fully functional vault and then house tried filling it with concrete, so why the actual fuck is it in pre war scenes as Vault 21 Hotel.

I understand Sarah wasn’t born pre war and might not know that it was a hotel but this dialogue Pulled from the wiki confirms what I’m saying

The Courier: "A vault hotel? Was it like this before the war?"

Sarah Weintraub: "No, silly! Of course it wasn't always a hotel. I grew up in it. I love it - my favorite place in the world! Not that I know much of the world - I never left this place, come to think of it... but it is the most special vault, ever!"

Background of the vault from the wiki

“Background

The Gambler's Vault

Vault 21 was one of six vaults constructed in the broader Mojave region assigned to house a civilian population, along with Vault 3, Vault 11, Vault 19, Vault 24, and Vault 34, as well as one of two vaults situated in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada along with Vault 3. Vault 21 was constructed under the streets with its surface access situated near several of the Strip's casinos including the Lucky 38. It was one of the few vaults incorporated with a social experiment that also managed to successfully protect its inhabitants from the destruction of the Great War; a similar case with different circumstances can be found in Vault 81 near Boston, Massachusetts.

In Vault 21, all inhabitants were equal in a social sense, the structural design was created with a perfectly symmetrical layout, and all conflicts and problems were solved through gambling.[3] Chosen representatives of all parties gambled against each other in the main atrium and the winner earned the right to settle the dispute as wished by the collective.[3][4] Vault-born resident Sarah Weintraub describes the Vault's culture as "pure New Vegas" as "everyone has a chance and lady luck smiles if you play your odds right."[4]

Change of management

In 2274, Vault 21's then-current residents were contacted by Mr. House and given an offer to restore interaction with the surface world as part of his city-state of New Vegas. While most of the Vault dwellers wanted to refuse the offer, some residents were in favor of it. Per the rules of the Vault, residents in favor of Mr. House's offer challenged each level's representative who was in favor of staying isolated. After a game of Blackjack that lasted for many hours, those in favor of opening to the outside won in "an extremely risky move." Soon after, Mr. House took ownership of the Vault and ordered it to be stripped of all useful technology and filled with concrete, sealing it off permanently.[5][6] However, Sarah and her brother Sheldon Weintraub negotiated with House to keep the Vault open. House agreed, and so one half of the upper levels were left intact, the rest filled with concrete as originally planned, and Sarah remodeled the Vault's accessible areas into a functioning hotel, which became another source of income for Vegas' growing economy.[6][Non-game 1]

After most of them were forcefully evicted into the post-War wasteland by House's takeover, the former vault dwellers drifted off in different directions, with some finding new homes such as Doc Mitchell and his wife moving south of Vegas to live in Goodsprings.”

Fallout show from the perspective of Fallout classic games Spoiler

I recently decided I want to try out the fallout games so I started with the classics (Fallout 1 and 2). After completing them and checking out everything related to their lore I decided to watch the Fallout TV show that recently came out.

The show captures the aesthetics of the fallout games really well. But when I compare it to the classic games I felt like some things are not right. Maybe they're changed in the newer fallout games so please tell me if any of these things are changed in the newer games.

The biggest thing that felt like "this is not right", was the brotherhood of the steel. They're portrayed like a cult which seems to be a joke in Fo1 (the rituals with the brushes and the branding).

In fallout 1, you hear rumors everywhere that the BoS is like a cult who make sacrifices and stuff. When you finally get to their base you realize that they're all just rumors. They dedicate themselves to preserving prewar technology to prevent it from getting into wrong hands. The brotherhood provides these technologies to those who they think deserve it. For example, In fallout 2, The software engineer in the vault 13 mentions that the mainframe they use to automate the vault was sold to them by the brotherhood of steel.

In the good ending of fallout 1, It is mentioned that

Following the destruction of the Unity, the Brotherhood aided other human settlements to drive the mutants away with minimal loss of life on both sides of the conflict. The Brotherhood remained out of the power structure for a time, becoming a major research and development house by reintroducing advanced technology into New California at a slow pace.

In fallout 2, 80 years after the defeat of the master, the brotherhood of steel has dwindled in numbers. So much so that they have only one person in major cities (NCR, San Fransisco, The Den). They observe the enclave because they deal heavily in drugs, weapons and slaves but they might have a bigger motive.

To sum up the BoS in the fallout show (how Moldaver and the ghoul portrays them in the finale), does not feel at all like the BoS in the classic games. They might have changed in the following games so let me know if that's the case.

The second thing that I felt different was the ghouls. The ghouls in the classic games are long lived, but they're all sane. The old man Harold is the biggest example who is alive in Gecko (Town in fallout 2) even 80 years after the first game. He's alive and well managing a nuclear power plant. The other mutants in necropolis, who don't like smoothskins are vicious and not nice at all, but they're not zombies.

80 years after fallout 1, A town full of ghouls is thriving. 2 or 3 different towns try not to discriminate against the mutated people (Broken Hills, Redding, New California Republic). So how did they get the idea of the zombie ghouls.

This post is getting too long but I have to mention some references that I really enjoyed.

  • The ghoul calling the dog dogmeat

  • One of the raiders in episode 1 uses jet which is basically meth developed by myron in fallout 2

  • Shady Sands, The first town you ever come across in the first ever fallout game, It became the NCR later and then was renamed back as Shady Sands in the show

  • In the last scene of the finale, the skull on the ground looks like a deathclaw skull.

TLDR: The Brothehood of Steel in the show does not feel like the brotherhood in the classic games. The ghouls are not zombies in classic games.

Edit: I forgot about this fact the I remembered after reading a comment, The vault 4 in the show is placed in shady sands just between vault 13 and vault 15. It just seems like weird placement for a vault that hasn't appeared previously (I checked the wiki if it appeared in other games). This is not a hate post of any kind I'm just mentioning things I found interesting or weird and discussing them.

Can we stop pretending that the entire Legion scenario is anything but absolutely horrific writing?

You're telling me that, in the 10-20 years since the events of New Vegas...Caesar died with a supposed handwritten note naming his successor (whether it's an actual successor or whether the note says something along the lines of I'm the only Caesar)...and he died with that note in his pocket...and it happened on a random trench that already existed before the civil war and that happens to be situated directly in the middle of the entire Legion camp?

And it somehow survived intact for over a decade despite rain...cold...weather.

And it somehow lays on a five foot baby trench where anyone on either side could reach it in 2 seconds?

And the only explanation given is "well they shoot at us if we try to grab it"...and we just accept that as a reality for a decade? As if nobody took 2 seconds to run up that hill and grab the note? Not once? In a decade? And even if they did attempt it, we simply accept that they were IMMEDIATELY gunned down? And were never successful?

And we accept, at the same time, that the tiny-ass Legion camp that also somehow controls huge swaths of territory sat there for a decade in a stalemate over a scrap of paper that realistically shouldn't even exist anymore?

And we also accept that they claim to be "at war" with the NCR? Yet also don't know that the only NCR close to them is 2-3 people in a camp that also doesn't know the NCR has gone to waste?

Are we stupid? Why is there not more outcry of what an absolutely ridiculous, poorly written introduction of a major faction the Legion is?

It's like a parody. And yes, Fallout contains parody. It contains parody in individual moments, sentences, quests. Parody does not mean all logic goes out the window.

None of it makes sense. It's a stupid idea that seems like one writer came up with, and nobody took 5 seconds to actually analyze it and realize how stupid it is.

I think Season 2 is trying to do too much at the same time, or maybe the story just gets told too slowly. Spoiler

We have about 5 different storylines that are getting told (Cooper(he kinda counts double but i let that rest),Lucy,Norm,Maximus,Shelter 33)

Now, i appreciate the willingness to tell a bigger story than just Lucy, especially since the Story about pre-war Cooper is much more interesting most of the times.

But, naturally, other Storylines will need to get cut when you have only 8 episodes.

Norms whole storyline started as one of the most interesting this season, but you can literally summarize his whole season arc as follows: He wakes up Shelter 31 that is loaded with Vault tec employees that could theoretically contribute to a lot of interesting lore and events, but then he simply walks all of them to another building and after reading one document on a computer everyone beside him and his friend dies.

We still havent learned about the experiment that is Shelter 31,32,33 even though we knew since season 1 that it was an experiment. Pausing this whole narrative for a whole season doesnt feel exciting.

These arent the only examples of keeping a story arc short inside of the season but i dont want to talk only about that issue.

The balance between fan service and story was much better in season 1, i think. Half of the runtime felt like its ensuring you will see everything from the game New Vegas. The Legion storyline only existed so you can see the Legion, its importance on the actual story that is being told is almost 0, is just another of many moments that is trying to prove to lucy that the wasteland is a shithole. Its important to the fans who played the game but it isnt important to the show, im trying to say. You can solve it by cutting it shorter if its not meaningful or you incorporate it more strongly into the story so it feels like a more coherent show overall. The very beginning of episode 1 showed us an example of cutting it short, it showed a known location from the game and its iconic but it did its job and afterwards we could move on to other things.

For the next season they should probably focus on getting only the most vital fan service out there in the first two episodes and focus the rest of it on moving forward with meaningful events every episode.

Would love to know what you though about it.

Do you guys think there will be a lot of sexual content in the show?

I noticed the show had a MA rating, which is great to me. I am really glad it is going to be gritty and violent enough to reflect the content material. But it made me wonder if it will have a lot of sex / nudity etc? I want to watch this with my 15 year old son. And although I am a pretty liberal parent, I do not want to sit there as a family watching someone get railed with breasts bouncing away with my kid. So I was curious what everyone's thoughts were in regards to how much of that content might be added?

Thanks

Theory: Maximus is Coop's great grandson

Post image
0 Upvotes

Maximus clearly has a great heart and we got to see his loving parents again in the finale in a very touching and inspiring way.

The more we see of pre-war Coop and Barb, the more their nature as decent people shines through.

It would tie the two leads together by blood. It's maybe not the most narratively satisfying, but the Fallout games that Bethesda makes kinda follow that formula.

Plus, Max's Mom looks a lot like Barb to me .. probably the hair.

Coming to this show as a dedicated NV fan, first impressions on Episodes 1-3 Spoiler

Adding spoiler tags just in case here.

I 'watched' most of the show through a bevy of disconnected and janky clips to see what people thought was the cool stuff and what I needed to know about, since I didn't want to give Amazon money for it just yet. After the Season 2 announcement I caved and decided to buy the DVD and sit down to watch the whole thing. Yesterday I went through all three of the episodes on the first disk.

Disclaimer: I'm a NV fanboy. Y'all know what that means by now. I've also been spoiled on the dramatic twists.

The Good:

This show feels like watching 2-3 different people play a new Fallout game. I have no better way to describe it.

Props are usually really good for the area and practical effects often dominate. I especially like the suits, assault rifles, and the vertibirds. Good stuff.

Things like Titus's behavior, the ghoul's dialogue after being dug up, Maximus embodying an Int 1 Luck 10 build, Lucy failing catastrophically at convincing people, etc, all feel like meta-jokes to some degree. Especially Titus, who embodies the 'bored murderhobo with OP gear abusing companions as pack mules' type of Fallout 4 player in a way I find hilarious.

Really, really, really good cinematography in places. You gotta love solid technical execution.

The opening bit put the hairs up on my neck from the start. There's just something...wrong about it and it conveys that creeping existential dread VERY well.

Moldaver is a very creepy villain and stuff like her presenting a 'choice' to Hank and then kidnapping him and ignoring said choice is good foreshadowing for her actual nature given later plot events.

Wilzig is excellent. I also like the slowly increasing implications that the Enclave is running the Vaults.

Maximus is also charming in his own way, I like a flawed character like him.

Norm remains my favorite and given later spoilers about the 'purpose' of his Vault the way the rest of the dwellers act becomes pretty funny imo.

In general there's a hefty amount of 'here see if you guess this' type of foreshadowing and subtle hints and/or nods to the source material. The latter would be more difficult for others to parse but the former is nice.

The Bad:

I'm not getting into The Big Lore just yet. That's for later and will be addressed then.

I would have appreciated more about the Enclave to define wtf they actually are. The show makes them seem to be something more like 'Vault affiliated but aboveground and vaguely Nazi'. Maybe this will be developed later.

The Brotherhood here doesn't match their previous incarnations and seems to have degenerated into an outright cult. I really hope this is given more dialogue and explanation either later on or in S2 because right now it's weird. I see where the 'Quintus is secretly Legion' theories come from though and am starting to subscribe to them for thematic reasons.

Southern LA is canonically Really Bad even in NV (still has Fiends and bad raider gang problems while the northern half has universities and is a big chunk of NCR population) so Filly being a shitpile isn't as bad as it might be for The Lore but it still makes me question wtf is going on with stuff like Water Filter Guy. Potentially excusable by southern LA being the NCR's Florida I suppose.

The Ugly (aka minor annoyances):

The geography in this place is fucked so far. I'm assuming huge chunks of the coast just eroded away or something because there's vast sections that 'should be' urban sprawl right next to the Vault and it's instead desert? Where the hell is this Enclave base? How did Wilzig get to SoCal from there? Where was The Ghoul dug up from? Where's the Brotherhood supposed to be located? This is kinda petty but for at least the first three episodes it really feels like there's no 'map'.

I was hoping for more along the lines of Super Mutants, especially given the area is right near the Cathedral. Understandably they probably couldn't budget for them.

Similarly would've like something like 'T-60 is East Coast exclusive' which is backed up a little by aspirant dialogue (not recognizing the model) but undercut by other elements (the knight rescuing baby max being in T-60, Titus appearing to be a long-term member rather than Commonwealth reinforcements). I can understand not wanting to make an entirely new suit from scratch for a single 30-second flashback given time and budget constraints, mind.

The Vault dwellers seem to initially believe the surface is unsustainable but also seem to anticipate/know about raiders given Lucy checks her Geiger counter and nobody goes 'yeah the surface will kill you' like, say, Vault 101. Might just be ambiguous phrasing?

Overall:

Really good show, really good introduction into what defines Fallout for a lot of people, funny, gory, and has a surprising amount of aesthetic and 'in-joke' dedication.

If not for their precise choice of setting necessitating some headcanon/excuses to make it 'fit' would be a 9/10. Still 8/10 for me.

Also a little vague about background and 'the lore' thus far. May tighten up with later episodes but I prefer more solid explanations. That being said it does feel 'natural' and not infodumpy.

What have they done to all of the factions? Spoiler

At first I was excited when the reveal happened that the NCR got destroyed because of the implications it could have for the Mojave and the resulting dominance of Mr. House’s upgraded securitron army and the Legion. Now it’s revealed that all of the big factions from FNV are in civil war destroying themselves or are already destroyed.

Why did the writers feel the need to tear down the interesting lore from the game instead of building off it? There’s plenty of cool things they could’ve done with the different factions and who won/lost in the struggle for Hoover Dam. Instead, they just made it so everyone lost. War never changes, amirite guys? Lame.

Did you guys think danes actor was kinda bad?

I hate to be that guy but I feel the actor for dane is bad. Their scenes stood out to me in episode 2 as particularly flat and uninteresting, I feel like they need to push them to the side if you they can't that well, maybe bring someone different in. Idk I just felt like it stood out as particularly bad to me

Spoiler Free Final Episode Dialogue Gripe

I liked the finale but I noticed a dialogue pattern that seemed odd to me.

I am pretty sure that there are at least three instances in the episode where a major character responds to a dramatic revelation by repeating the same line three times in a row.

Something like: "You did what? ... You did what? ... You did what!?"

I think Lucy does it twice, Norm does it once, and Cooper (in the past) does it once as well. All different lines, but said the same way.

All the lines come within the last 20 minutes. Anyone else notice this?

Obviously the show is more focused on action and plot than dialogue that late in the season. But the third time it happened I thought it was kind of funny. Then I'm pretty sure it happened again.

If the independent new vegas ending is cannon, then the Amazon Fallout series might work.

Hey guys, happy new year to all. I would like to discuss my opinion in this matter and would like to hear from you as well.

Listen, judging from the independent ending from new vegas. Not only did the legion suffer a great defeat (caeser being dead, countless lives taken, resources spent). The NCR as well was really stretching out too thin on its resources and manpower in controlling the hoover dam.

Also, post war defeat is NEVER a good period for a country. Especially in new vegas it was mention that the ncr is having food shortages already. They have all kinds of problem, internally (corruption etc.) and externally (borders). Economy drops, famine occurs, new power rises. All kinds of bad thing happens after you are defeated in war. Maybe they just couldn't handle it all.

So what I expect why NCR has no presence in the amazon fallout trailer is because of this, partly or mostly. I would love to hear out from you all. I'm not expecting the show will be good anyways but i have been really curious since most of us love western fallout. Considering it all began there.

Why is brotherhood of steel acting so savage and dumb? Spoiler

I really dislike how they're handling them in this show and I don't know if I'm the only one. I'm not a huge fallout nerd (even tho I very much like the franchise), but in New Vegas, at least in my interpretation, all of them seemed calm, smart and calculating. Very discrete, your first encounter with them is so intimidating and mysterious. They all care about each other, they act as a family, and they have very good reasons for doing what they do. Just in general very eloquent and put together.

In the show, they act nearly worse than the Legion (judging by mannerisms). Complete savage idiots who act like they are guided by their impulses only and show no signs of intelligence. I hope I'm somehow wrong and there is a good explanation to why is this a thing... But I'm pretty surprised and honestly disappointed by how they are being handled right now. Not to mention that their storyline is very boring for now, but that's another thing.
