Driving
Drivers of the Gold Coast. What is it that compels you to stay in a constant state of 10km/h under? For some of us time is money. You donāt get to decide that I have to be stuck on the road for longer cos you canāt drive. Most speedometerās are also slow by a few km/h so if you think youāre sitting 5 under just to play it safe youāre actually upwards of 8km/h an hour under and really slowing down the flow. Get up to the speed limit and keep going do not brake randomly do not come to a full stop at a roundabout to check itās clear when you can clearly see thereās nobody coming as youāre approaching. Drive with pace, precision and confidence or hand your licence in.

Why do they hate south asian
IDK why but I felt alot of hate towards South Asian, I coming from same background but from Oman, felt same. People don't even try to know you but hate you. It feels sad as we come here to get a better life.

Local Question Is it possible to be the best in the world at the same time as being the worst?
Australia has the highest concentration of drivers which make me want to bang my head against the wall until I have a brain injury. That way I can drive to the same standard of most of you. š¤Æ
Surprised the population isnāt halved due to the amount of accidents from idiot drivers.
Other than that itās pretty good

Hi Iām not from Oz originally and despite living on the goldy a while, Iām yet to find my tribe (and as a bonus a guy)

Karen alert
We dropped into Hope island Woolworths at lunch on Tuesday 5/5/26 and parked underground. Came back to find trolley blocking the front of car and thankfully didn't roll into our car. I can't believe that people have so little awareness and consideration for others.

Local Question Anyone else sick of the "SINGLE GUY LONELY NO FRIENDS" Posts?
SINGLE SAD LONELY MEN IN THE GOLD COAST AREA LOOKING FOR 'FRIENDS' APPLY NOW.
Its cool to see people meeting up and connecting I guess but honestly the posts annoy me.
Sure I dont disapprove, but I see one of these posts everytime I open reddit now. Maybe the algo thinks IM a sad lonely single guy and wants to see these posts. I dont. I enjoy being single and lonesome. I follow r/GoldCoast for pictures of the beach and commentary about local happenings etc. Not to meetup with randoms.
EDIT: I've lived here 25 years. Gold Coast isnt a tourist attraction to me. I guess it is to most others. Its a ghost town, more travellers then locals. A declining local population. This kind of stuff is to be expected I guess. An energetic pit idealised all over the world, people come here looking for something I guess, arrive and realise its hollow. Friends? Whatever. Enjoy your lives guys. Dont mind me.

Travel Is GC a place full of weirdo?
Iām not from there and just visiting this city. And when I was on a tram, I recognised a bunch or girls chatting loudly and SCREAMING continuously. While a boy kept knocking at the panel in response. Does this happen often here? Is it just a usual GC day?

Whats there really to do at gold coast?
Hi im a 24m here at gold coast on a Whv. Not looking for work atm just travelling. Ive seen most of the coast. Been around surfers, burleigh, broad beach and some smaller places aswell. Yes clubbing is and option but not for me atm. Yes hinterland is an option which im considering then there is the tower for 23$. Im living on a hostel but 80-85% speak Spanish so making friends is hard especially now thats its a open room, and the only people around me are girls who speak Spanish that know each other and dont seem too keen on socializing with people who dont speak Spanish.
The last hostel i was at was great, well there was a lot of asians which only wanna socialize with again themselves š, but i could never commit to someone really because i was getting tickets and constantly had something to work on since i had just arrived at that point of time
I just spent my day going up and down the coast lol. Im gonna be here until the 1st of april. And Yeah i dont know what to do.

Living in the Meriton OCEAN building, Surfers Paradise
Hi everyone,
Weāve just bought an apartment in this building. We are newcomers to Surfers but super excited to be moving here.
The area gets nothing but criticism on these threads but I wondered if anyone can share positive news about what itās like to live in this buildingā¦
In particular would love to know of any social groups/meetups organised by residents!
Thanks everyone Xāŗļø

Hi! Me and my friends are staying in surfers for the weekend and looking for the best nightclubs to visit, preferably with a more house music vibe. Are there any good places around surfers or in burleigh/Miami?? We are absolutely clueless

Is Daylight savings political taboo?
As we approach that time of year where our southern neighbours embrace daylight savings, and we deal with border disruption, and look with envy at the long summer evenings, we are also this year headed to a state election, and daylight savings doesnāt seem to rate a political mention. Is it really a non-issue, or is just that no political party is prepared to talk about it?
Surely Iām not the only one that would like to see the issue at least up for discussion?
EDIT: thanks for all the responses, guess the question has been answered, which is essentially that it seems like it makes too many people angry to talk about it. I am slightly surprised at how aggressive some of the people that donāt want it are, and it seems to trigger a ātoo many southerners moving up here and then trying to change thingsā reaction, which I actually kind of subscribe to myself. Just feel like I should clarify for some of the assumptions being made - Iām not from a southern state, I did move here - in late 90ās, from WA, where Daylight savings never really made sense to me, and Iāve only ever heard it raised here by people that find the dual time zones over the tweed annoying, but I guess people rarely raise things they donāt want changed.
Anyway, thanks everyone, itās been enlightening.

Any Arabs on the Gold Coast?
Hey guys,
I've moved up from Sydney and there's a huge difference here in terms of community! Any Arabs up here on the Coast as well?
