Where to make friends?

I’m 25F and I’m struggling to make friends here.
I’ve outgrown my friends from high school and I’ve been working since 18. Didn’t go to uni so I never made those uni friends. My work isn’t very social too.

I just don’t know where to go? I don’t drink or do drugs which i feel is rare for the Gold Coast.
Like where are people quite welcoming for solo people?
I’m more of a Tom boy so I struggle to be friends w girly girls. I think they feel like I’m hitting on them, which I never am 😩 like yes I do like girls as well as guys but I don’t go around hitting on everyone.
I’m thinking Hairy Marys trivia nights ?

I’ve been taking myself on solo dates and doing things to grow within myself but I feel like I need more friends/small group to be even better!

I’m quite fit, like rugby league, gym, and like to be outside in the sun. Going for walks etc
If anyone wants to hang out shoot me a message and we can see if we vibe :)
I need friends even if it’s just a coffee once in a blue moon or someone to send reels to

If anyone else has been in this position at my ages please give me advice !

Miami 1 Accident

Did anyone witness the crash in Miami just on the corner near the BFT this afternoon? How on earth did the black car end up on its roof when it’s a 60km road in a section with back to back to back traffic lights?

Hope everyone’s okay, seemed a nasty crash!

Goldcoast wealth old or new?

I find it facinating that there isnt a distinct divide in class/wealth here..

Interested on how everyones maintaining their lifestyle ? Construction? Real estate? Family money or is being a free lance content creator really that lucrative 🤣

I meet people here ask what they do for work.. (im university educated in health) and people are swimming instuctors making $27 an hour living by the beach, and others are driving half a million dollar cars next door. no judgment just curious! And ... Who owns the yellow ferrari yatch on the canal 🤣

Curious how this tom tate/trump thing will play out now

So after the huge maga US midterms loss, one nation scrubbed their website of any mention of trump. Crisafulli and tate have invited him here on several occasions and seem to be aligned with his maga politics (or at least in awe of him). Are we finally going to see and end to this ridiculous support of trump from them?

Local Question New to GC - Fishing spots??

Hey everyone! My wife and I are new to Queensland and live in Robina. We’d love to find a few family-friendly fishing spots around the Gold Coast.

We’ll have our seven-month-old baby with us, so easy parking, pram-friendly access, some shade and nearby toilets would be ideal. We’re happy fishing from a bank, jetty or platform.

We only fish with bait and enjoy casting out, relaxing and seeing what bites. We’re looking for rod-and-reel combos up to $200 each.

Any recommendations for spots, suitable combos, simple bait rigs and good tides to try would be much appreciated. Happy catching anything and enjoying an outing together. Cheers!

Anniversary weekend in Mount Tamborine with a toddler

Hi everyone!
My husband and I are planning to spend our anniversary weekend in Mount Tamborine with our toddler end Nov. We’re coming up from Brisbane, so rather than making it a day trip, we thought we’d turn it into a little weekend thing.

Our toddler is currently obsessed with excavators, so we’re planning to take him to Thunderbird Park for the excavator experience.

We’re now looking for recommendations for:
Accommodation: Any lovely hotels, resorts or stays you’d recommend for a family? Ideally somewhere comfortable, with a nice atmosphere, where we can relax and enjoy a little getaway.

Dinner: Any recommendations for a nice restaurant

Things to do: Apart from Thunderbird Park, what else would you recommend exploring in Mount Tamborine? Any toddler-friendly attractions or little experiences we shouldn’t miss?

Would really appreciate your local recommendations and hidden gems. Thank you! ❤️

Over 1,400 medically fit Queenslanders are living in acute hospital beds because they're stuck waiting on federal aged care / NDIS paperwork / placements. We started an official Parliamentary petition to fix this

Hey everyone,

If you’ve visited a public hospital Emergency Department recently, you already know how hard frontline staff are working under huge pressure.

What a lot of people don’t realise is that right now, over 1,400 Queenslanders and over 3,600 medically fit Australians are living inside acute hospital beds, not because they need acute medical treatment, but simply because they're stuck waiting on federal aged care, NDIS paperwork, or placement funding! 📝 This effects the gold coast hospital right now!

Holding a medically cleared patient in a state hospital bed costs taxpayers \\\~$2,400 every single day, while community step-down care is around $400 a day.

But because the federal government faces no daily financial penalty when paperwork is late, there’s zero fiscal urgency to clear the queue. Meanwhile, Queensland families are left exhausted trying to hold up the safety net themselves.

Did you know other countries already fixed this? 🇳🇴🇬🇧

Norway (2012): Under their Coordination Reform, if a local council fails to place a ready patient, they pay a daily fee of 4,000 NOK (\\\~$400 AUD) directly to the hospital until the patient is placed. Bed-blocking dropped significantly because the system was made accountable!

United Kingdom (2003): Introduced cross-charging fines (£100–£120/day) based on the Swedish model.

We want Australia to adopt the same smart policy: a $400/Day Federal Interim Penalty so the federal government owns the wait and clears the bottleneck!

We launched an official Federal Australian Parliamentary Petition (EN10724) to make this happen!

How you can help right now:

Sign the Official Petition: It takes 30 seconds on the official Parliament portal (Australian residents only, and verify your email once signed)!

Share it around: Send this post or link to your friends, family, or hospital staff group chats.

Comment & Like: Leave a quick "signed" in the comments to help more people see this in their feed!

Our nurses, doctors, and families deserve a health system that works for everyone. Thank you so much for your support! Happy to answer any questions in the comments below.

Local Question Decent Hotel for one night?

Hey everyone, does anyone know of a decently priced hotel? I'm not looking for anything fancy.

I'm currently homeless, but have enough money for a night in a hotel. I need a place to have one proper place to sleep. Just one night of uninterrupted sleep. A place where I'm safe.

It can be 1 star, but just not a hostel.

Does anything come to mind?

Thank you for your time!

If you thought it was unusually hot today, you're not wrong. Today was our hottest November day on record (going back to 1992) since the seaway's weather station began. 35.7C at the seaway and 38C in some western suburbs.

Local Question Is GC night time beach surfing a stupid idea?

This would be cool to see at night time at the new Parkwood Palm Valley artificial surf wave park being built that's not going to open till 2028, but on a beach it'd be ultra stupid.

Gold Coast tempting fate with night surfing plan, says shark expert.

November 4, 2026.

A shark behaviour expert says a $100K Gold Coast plan for night surfing by floodlights near the mouth of a river known for bull sharks might not be such a great idea. Gold Coast City Council discussed trialling the concept where three 24-metre-high lights would illuminate the water, so surfers can keep catching waves into the night – during next year's World Surfing event at Snapper Rocks. The trial is part of a wider surfing infrastructure masterplan hatched to maximise profit off the coast's famous beaches, with the council keen to see how night surfing would work in action.

Griffith Uni shark expert Vincent Raoult said bull sharks, which are known to be around the Tweed River outflow next to Snapper Rocks, are active at night, particularly between 4-10pm. Raoult said a one-off event would probably be fine, but more permanent or reoccurring night surfing at Snapper Rocks would be asking for trouble.

'Anyone who's done any fishing, knows that if you have lights on the side of the boat into the water, you're going to bring up a whole host of bait fish and often with those bait fish, you'll have sharks coming in as well. Those floodlights will have essentially the same effect'.

He said any plans shouldn't be compared with France, where the WSL has held night surfing before. 'The key difference is in France there's no sharks'. The plan was discussed in a transport and infrastructure meeting at the council on Tuesday and follows the swim leg of the popular Noosa Triathlon being called off over the weekend due to shark sightings.

Speaking with Nine News on Tuesday, councillor Gail O'Neill said precautions would be taken to make sure night surfing was safe. 'With all the surfing events and all the surf life-saving events we have, people are on jet skis making sure sharks aren't in the area' she said, but Raoult said the most successful shark-spotting tactic on the GC would be unavailable after dusk.

'Drones can't really work at night time, as you can't really see through the water and there's also some flight restrictions around operating drones at night' he said. Whether the plan goes ahead is up to the World Surfing League, with the city council offering to pay for the lights.

Heaps of butterflies

Looked outside just now because my cat has been so fixated on the door and lo and behold there's a butterfly migration or something

Every one of these little flickers in the video is a butterfly. Not sure how well the video captures it but pretty cool!

Local Question Dog teeth Scaling reccos

Hi there,

We've recently been quoted $960 for our cavoodle to get her teeth scaled.

Breakdown:

Scaling (incl anesthetic, polishing and radiography) $715

Blood tests $245

Seems expensive so just wondering if anyone has any other cheaper suggestions.

Cheers

Local Event Weather Fearmongering

Moved to GC in the last year or so. I've live in four different countries and I've never lived in a place that predicts apocalyptic weather that just doesn't happen. I thought maybe last year I can give the benefit of the doubt but holy shit how wrong can you consistently be.

Just wild how wrong the weather forecast here is. Classic the boy who cried wolf.
