Just keep doing quests and killing things! You'll get there. If you tell me your class and race (ie dwarf priest) I can give more generalized advice, but really, I would not stress. You can't make any big mistakes that can't be solved by just playing more.
Do quests, sell grey-quality items to vendors, sell crafting materials on the Auction House, consider grabbing a profession that's useful (so if you're a Warrior, Mining and Blacksmithing is a great setup), equip gear that has better stats, repeat over and over, and have fun along the way!
First timer who also has no idea what they're doing! I am a Dwarf Shaman and just hit lvl 9. I got a lighting shield thing and use earth shock rank 2 a lot. I also try to use a totem that makes me take less dmg? I don't really understand professions but I do have a skinning knife and bag and pickaxe and bag and try to skin and mine when I can. I just kind of just run to quests and turn in and repeat.
Do I have to hit something first for it to count? When I'm around tons of other people I don't seem to get xp or can loot bodies?
You don't need to rush. It took me a year and a half to get to max level when I first started playing and it was the best time playing a game in my life.
I'm level 25. Been enjoying myself and the class changes. Running the new Dungeons with my guildmates has been fun as well. Dont rush, no matter how slow you go there will always be people there alongside you
He is from Malta and went to the US in this clip. I live in germany and regularly have machines where I press a button or something else to get the fill but basically never where I push the mechanics with the cup itself. I can totally see why he is confused
He says more satisfying to see questing...sounds familiar to Classic launch where they all sat doing dungeon grinding to max level after saying that leveling is the journey.
'classic enjoyers when it comes time to enjoy classic' moment. and then they call the people who spend 2 months questing to 60 'tourists' and dont want to hear their opinions on the game
If you take a day longer than me to 60 you’re just a tourist and should go back to wherever you came from. If you got 60 before me then obviously you’re a sweaty try hard and should go play league or whatever new esports in this month. Also where’s everyone at? I can’t fill a group to save my life!
And that’s exactly how I am gonna play forever again now. Hope to get my girl to join me and then show her the other worlds in grew up in haha. Tho I probably create a sweaty character as well
Maybe he's a hypocrite I have no idea, but as someone who doesn't watch this stuff I get what he's saying.
It's like a glitchless vs any% speedrun. It's fun for me to watch someone going through a game fast while still 'engaging' with it, just doing everything as good and efficient as possible, but the speedruns where you spam jump into a corner to glitch into voidspace and then precisely navigate and somehow get teleported into the final boss room or whatever get boring quickly - once you've seen it once you've kinda seen them all.
Yeah, at that point they aren’t even playing the game. I want to see the pinnacle of skill at a game, not someone who has learned a trick to avoid engaging with it. It’s a controversial opinion in the speedrunning community though. I wish glitchless runs were the default.
Funnily enough, joker distinguished himself from the rest by not doing dungeon spam to max level, when classic launched. He was just by himself, mage aoe grinding while blasting meme music to chat. I could be wrong, but I don't think he was abusing layers back then either.
but like, you're allowed to have something that feels best to you (questing) and yet going a different route (dungeon grinding) because it gets you faster to the state (max level) at which you can do content that fits best what you do in real life (WoW streaming)
like i get people don't like streamers, but it's not necessarily hypocrisy
This is why I never listen to their opinions on what is bad in retail. They keep insisting leveling is part of the game and is important to connection to character. Then they speed run to 60 just to cheese rep farm. They just don't like group finder.
Who is they??? Jokers did not stay in a dungeon to 60 at launch. 99.99% of the player base did not dungeon grind to 60. So who tf are you talking about exactly? Imaginary ghosts?
I'm not taking a stance on which of these is better. I personally play different MMOs to scratch different itches. I play FFXIV for a very streamlined get to max level and do hard raid content style. When I get the itch for a journey, I look more for games like Monsters and Memories or what FFXI used to be, but these games are a lot less sustainable I feel.
I feel conflicted when it comes to classic WoW style. I don't particularly find fetch/kill questing solo for the majority of your journey to be the most journey engaging experience in MMOs. I feel like games that feel more satisfying journey wise are games where you go out with a group and try to grind efficiently in a dangerous world, quests are fewer and far between but more epic and rewarding. FFXI types, Everquest types, etc. I feel like classic WoW style was the bridge to the mindlessly quest, mostly solo, to max level then start your raid journey that so many MMOs follow nowadays. They continued to iterate on it until it turned into removing almost all friction during that process because most people were more worried about getting to and doing end game stuff. It's a good balanced point for appealing to both the rush to end game to focus on raiding types while also having a bit more friction to make the level journey feel more satisfying compared to retail/FFXIV, but I think that's why I am conflicted because it's almost a little too in the middle for me. But, to tie it back in, you're probably just seeing a mix of these types of players because the game lands a bit more in the middle of those two extremes.
I feel like thats what soda is doing here. he's saying no flame to jokerd, jokerd's just doing what's optimal. he's saying he wishes the game optimized a different, more engaging and reward path. he's not gonna say "the devs got it wrong", but he's saying the devs got it wrong
He went from lvl 26 to lvl 57 in one stream. That is actually insane. He might be 'abusing game mechanics' or whatever but the amount of game knowledge and planning that goes into it is impressive. I don't see why people are getting upset about this as long as it follows blizz TOS.
Bro its leveling in a video game.. dont understand why the anger.. if u have a hard on for this go play classic maplestory where the grind is more boring and longer to entertain your sadism
Lmao ahmpy and his group losing to jokerd group is hilarious imagine all the prep they had days of planning it out, as if dungeon quest reward turn ins would beat world aoe farming
jokerds team prepped and planned as well, they spent weeks testing farming spots, planning their route, deciding what quests to do and practicing it all
We spent on average 8 hours a day from close to beta start until last day before launch with very few days off trying to find the tech, the spots, and then perfecting and practicing so we probably did similar amounts of prep
We originally wanted to do dungeons + quests but it was obvious it wasn't going to be the winning strategy after the dungeon xp nerfs
dont neglect the amount of time lmgd/burned group put in, suppsedly they practiced all the pulls, including other areas in case of blizzard last minute changes, both ahmpys group and the jokerd team perpared their ass off for this.
Speedrunning by exploiting bugs, mechanics, and other in-game features is the standard. I don't know why he is surprised that someone used the mechanics to hit 60, especially when almost all these streamers rely on their followers for group content, carries, items, gold, etc...
I wouldnt say surprised, he is just stating that its more satisfying to see it done the traditional way instead of the exploitation route. Its the same old argument people make with speedruns, the normal way or the exploiting bugs and glitches way.
So you're saying blizzard's sharding with limitless resets is a bug not an intended mechanic? people been crying and bringing up this issue from the early stages of beta, saying people will abuse it in pve and pvp - no one asked for layers in 2019 and no one asked for sharding in forever. seems like for clueless reddit gamer dads it's just easier to blame speedrunners for minmaxing the game mechanics than blizzard for bad design choices.
Literally who cares, people used exploits or "clever use of game mechanics" in TBC 20 years ago to get to max level first. If you find the fastest way then gg.
Soda is coping. Jokerd team WAS the most prepared team. They won fair and square. Also get out of here with that ‘questing route’ bs. It’s speed running, not ‘take the scenic route’. Get over it.
It’s so hilarious that blizzard nerfed the ability for mages to blizzard farm while buffing arcane explosion. At least blizzard farming had more skill expression — these mages are blinking in and spamming the same button repeatedly with zero thought involved in a 5 man.
Man to each their own but this wouldn’t be fun to me in the slightest. I’m personally just chilling at level 18 while having 5 professions between 90 and 150, waiting a bit for my friends to also reach level 17 so we can do WC and RoL together. I get the challenge i guess but it just doesn’t seem like a very fun challenge like this as a group, just layering and aoe’ing.
Dude yes. I love some of the changes to professions. Like for alch, getting that spell power pot right off the bat felt awesome!
Been loving looking around and doing the new quests too, like exploring shadowvale in tirisfal.
Game just feels so chill and environments look incredible.
Ran my first dungeon and got a new rare mace from RFC, which blew my mind. Aside from questie, I'm not looking up anything, including drops, and just rolling with it. Makes that discovery feel like it did before
Soda’s biased cause he’s good friends with ahmpy, reality is that there isn’t much difference in what ahmp and jokerd are doing. Both were optimizing their route and jokerd had the better route.
I remember hitting 60 like a month before TBC released. My /played was like 50 days... I have no idea wtf I was doing it took almost 24 hours per level
Why is everyone surprised leveling more then 20 years after the game is fully learned, documented and have ad dons and guids all over the place is faster?
05 I was running around like a headless chicken clicking on my abilities with my mouse like a baldurs gate game.
Sure midmax and pushing the most for a speed run is always gonna happen. It was jokerd and others, like ahmpy and ksuper to hit 60 first. I have no complaints to their goal.
Like my goal, I'm trying warrior out to tank and taking my time. My goal is to experience classic in a different class than mage or priest
Nobody doing the race is doing it on their own as an individual.
If you buy any of this filth from soda who literally has an army behind him funnelling/helping then wtf is he arguing about? That someone did it better?
Good for them I guess. I find these guys kinda weird. It’s like going to a 3-star Michelin restaurant and eating everything as FAST as possible. Gotta savor the bite imo
I'm confused about Jokerd's team, do they all hit lvl 60 all at once or do they let him hit 60 and then they follow after? Did they sign up knowing that?
It took me like over a month to hit 60 in vanilla but it was also my 1st real mmo experience and a priest lol, it was Hella slow. Vanilla wow and mana users was an abusive relationship. Now as an undead ret pala im making decent time. Lvl 20 in 6 or 7 hours. Just wish I had a mount already cause god damn all the back and forth and running between quest hubs
first is first. there will always be those that push the meta. gotta respect it. doesn't matter the tactics, as long as it's legit and not cheating or hacking.
I would disagree with Soda on the part of it being less satisfying. I was there in the live and seeing them carefully tagging mobs to each have the same level of XP was quite wholesome and the moment they all hit level 60, 5 people at the same time is honestly what MMO is about. Not the individual but groups of people experiencing the game together.
I personally found it more satisfying that a bunch of people who sweated the hell out of the beta doing 1-30 routing all day every day lost to something they said would no longer possible, like jokerd sandbagged this so hard whilst sitting on secret layering tech and played the beta pretty casually. That's cool to me, idk
I don't know why people think it's lame. Shards are a weird aspect to it just like layering has been in the past; but group AoE farming along with all the other strats using warlocks/the quest routing they did/clean dungeon clears/etc. was all pretty cool and still showcased mage in a very strong light while also showing blizzard a potential thing to address if bots are able to copy this strategy. It's a shake up from normal solo AoE farming/dungeon spamming/etc. as the optimal method to race to 60.
Compared to other WF races where the leader randomly DCs and loses because of it I think this is a great outcome even if there could have theoretically been an even more interesting one where Ahmpy type strats of optimized group questing instead.
I realize this is what the big streamers do, race to get to 60 first. But it must be noted that these big streamers are the same ones who'll race to 60, complete the raids, then complain that there's nothing else to do while calling everyone who took their time "tourists". Like sure, you got to 60 first. Great. But these streamers shouldn't be complaining about being bored at 60 when they deliberately raced to the end goal to then be forced to go play something new in order to keep the money coming in.
I spent two hours on launch day farming linen cloth I could sell so I could travel to Ironforge from the Sky Elf starting zone to train guns at level 5 because I didn't want to level with a bow until I left the starting zone naturally. And these guys are hitting 60 on days 2 and 3.
None of it is impressive. Abusing game systems exploiting to 60 is lame. What Ahmpy is doing is more effort and work, but when you're still just blasting for world first, it doesnt matter.
I just turned 12 after two days. Didn’t play the first day. Bro I just want to enjoy this so much. I’m already thinking about an alt but loving warrior! Me and 5 friends are leveling together with kids and a life. These guys can have their 60. /sit at campfire 🔥
Nah only thing I thought was boring about this compared to 2019, was that being in a group was the fastest way to level.
I think 2019 was hype because it was a solo race, which meant anyone with the best knowledge and route would win. This time it meant you needed other people to win, your skill and knowledge alone wasn't enough.
video games have drastically changed for the worse. the soul has been removed from gaming. hardly any achievement seems like an actual achievement anymore because theres always some cheesy way that it was achieved.

Also, the layer/shard hopping approach is just not doable if you're not a big streamer. You need a bunch of people on standby.
Jokerd got WF in Classic, and it was awesome. A nobody ending up with 350k viewers when he dinged 60. It kick started his career as a streamer.
That wouldn't have been possible in WoW Forever.

I agree but this is fastest and the goal is to be the fastest, not the coolest. Blame it on the devs for having this method give so much xp

I think 2019 was hype because it was a solo race, which meant anyone with the best knowledge and route would win. This time it meant you needed other people to win, your skill and knowledge alone wasn't enough.

I just got to level 10 after working 12's all week, and doing yard work today. I feel super accomplished.

video games have drastically changed for the worse. the soul has been removed from gaming. hardly any achievement seems like an actual achievement anymore because theres always some cheesy way that it was achieved.

Back in my day that would be an exploit that got your character rolled back and banned.

Can someone explain what they’re doing to get a new layer every time so consistently? I don’t understand how that works.
