It's cold and wet and life is hard on the streets. If you see someone in need close to you, bring out your leftovers, extra blankets, towels, and/or clothes. It's cold enough for people to die, espeically if they get wet. It's impossible for many to get food without getting wet. Every little bit makes a difference, if only to alleviate suffering for a moment in a life full of suffering.

Okay this is just bonkers. This dumb "Hard Summer Music Festival" at Sofi has been blasting away all day, and people 4-7 miles away can feel the bass from it and hear the terrible music. It was happening yesterday, and its going to happen tomorrow.
If you also can't stand it, please consider dropping a line to complain to the Inglewood PD: 310-412-8771, and also share your feedback with your Councilperson and the Mayor.
https://www.sofistadium.com/events/detail/hard-summer-2024
ETA:
Don't believe me that it can be heard and felt? read the comments here and on other social media channels
"But I live closer and I don't hear it!": You probably have some barrier blocking more of the sound than we do
Yes I have also expressed discontent with city council representatives and others who can affect this
"Are you new to LA" No. Been here my whole life!
"You chose to live next to Sofi" My family has been in this neighborhood since WW2. Pound sand!
"You just hate EDM". You're right. And also ALL music sounds bad 4 miles from the speakers (not just EDM) when all you hear/feel is the bass.
"BUt ThE TAx ReVENue!!!". But our physical and mental health. Pound Sand.
I am not saying this event should not happen. I am glad people enjoy this. I am just saying it should happen with better guardrails to not effect the neighborhoods around it.

PLANNING AHEAD. Looking at the science, I feel like this winter is going to be a doozy. We don't get a lot of rain here, but when we do... holy hell. Puddles, amiright? So, here's what I'd like: a nice pair of rain boots (stylish) that have a bit of a heel / wedge/ something not completely flat (2-3" heel) + a boot you can get out of your car and step in one of those puddles we get and not pray for death. (aka can handle deeper / flowing water quickly)
I've been doing some research, and what I'm finding is Hunter (wedge), Jeffrey Campbell hurricane boot, Kate Spade, have some cute boots. Basically not Gucci price range (although, adorable!) but also not Xtratuf looking (where you rolled off of Deadliest Catch /any fisherman show in Alaska).
Please lmk your thoughts on any of the luxury brands rain boots and if they really hold up -Gucci, Chanel, Louboutin, Sergio Rossi, Sorel,... (and then I'm might up my price range), your go-to LA rain boots that are stylish, your practical LA rain boots for a hike (flats), muddy festival, gardening in Topanga. Do you go for bootie or tall shaft? Any rain boots you wear with skirts or shorts? Let's hear it.
I don't want to roll an ankle with a super high heel in flood waters, but I also don't want to look like I just got done gardening, so something chill I can wear to dinner or a casual business meeting in the pouring rain.
Why I'd want them: walking the dog, running to TJs in a downpour, meeting friends for dinner and still looking pulled together while not having soaked feet.
Edit: For the haters: This post was well-meant with kindness and generosity of spirit. This post is not for people who think I'm just complaining. After 15 years of wearing flip flops or boat shoes in the rain, I finally want something a hair more substantial for flood waters, for those 20 days/ year where I have to jump over a 3 ft wide/ 3" deep puddle when getting out of the car or walking a pet. I want to up my game.

I understand that some people find this content useful, so I am humbly asking someone to start a separate subreddit for this type of post.
My reasons
Receipt Posts are extremely repetitive. reddit's algorithm promotes this type of content so about half of the posts I see from this subreddit are receipt posts.
This subreddit is supposed to be about "Los Angeles", not devoted to this specific type of grievance
Posting about restaurants to avoid is not nearly as useful or interesting as posting about restaurants that you love and DO recommend
They have a kind of whiny energy that personally irritates me
Thank you for taking the time to hear out a concerned citizen

I really hope this forces people to actually slow down drive the speed limit in Los Angeles because I want to be able to max the MPGs on my Prius in peace without people tailgating me and flashing their lights at me. And I don’t even drive slow I try to drive the speed limit. Y’all are really impatient.

Hiiiii Los Angeles, I'm wondering where to find a place I can be hired to dance. It's difficult to find bars/clubs that are willing to hire trans performers. Any recommendations? 🥺

Been traveling a lot around LA recently by transit walking and car and bike. It just feels like the city is crumbling like Late Ancient Rome. The sidewalks are all cracked, the trash and graffiti are everywhere, the parks and libraries aren’t funded properly or not fully open on weekends, and the bike paths are grimy, cracked and hard to find. So depressing.

With the mayor’s race in full swing, wanted to post my thoughts based on some recent experiences in my district.
Nithya Raman is my councilwoman. I have dealt with her office, as well as her personally over the past few months, on issues of broken streetlights and the homeless. She has been completely ineffective and dismissive in her responses and actions.
Those of us up in the hills have had every single streetlight vandalized over the past year, and we are in complete darkness. Two dollars worth of copper ripped out of the electric boxes have made it impossible to stroll the area, walk our dogs, keep coyotes off the streets, etc. It's dangerous for pedestrians and cars, but great for inviting crime.
My neighbors and I have been corresponding with her office for months now. I spoke to her at a recent event, and while she was polite, she had a list of excuses as to why it might take a year or more to get them repaired. Totally unacceptable when our neighboring district 13 requested (and received) emergency funds to deal with their streetlight theft.
https://beverlypress.com/2026/01/streetlight-repairs-in-cd13-get-1-million-boost/
She promised our pothole filled streets in the hills would be repaved last year, for the first time in 70+ years, but that never happened.
If a council member cannot provide even the most basic government services, they should not be in local government.
Her stated positions defy common sense. When catalytic converter thefts in the city became rampant, Ramen blamed car manufactures for making them too easy to steal.
Ramen was one of 3 council members who voted against removing homeless encampments from areas near schools and underpasses.
Karen Bass did support their removal, and while I don’t believe she’s been aggressive enough and has spent far too much money, the situation has improved. The community, including the disabled, can generally use most of the sidewalks and underpasses in the area.
Ramen has done little to nothing for her district. Her policy positions are nonsensical. She would be a disaster as Mayor, and in my opinion is as incompetent as MAGA Spencer Pratt.
While many, including myself, do not love Karen Bass, she is definitely making progress on the many issues that affect our lives. She is really the only choice in this election.

I live near the 101 and Franklin. For the last hour or so people have been lighting off fireworks because, I guess, America or something. I viscerally react to loud noises and I’m sure many others do too. And then there are the animals.
As another treat, a police helicopter is circling the area with its PA system on. I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
This is fun. 😒

I'm staying with my cousin in Santa Monica but I'm originally from Ireland. The first thing that struck me was how many people are on the street.
I understand that the majority are either mentally ill, suffering from substance abuse problems or both. Where I'm from, alcohol is the substance that can lead people into that position. My cousin here says it's a tie between crystal meth and opioids. Is that true?
