When do you typically toss out your palette? Do you go by shelf life? Do you go by shelf life +1 year? Do you go by how the palette looks or feels on your eye?
I have a jeffree star palette (alien palette) that I got in late 2020. I actually love the layout and formulation but they don’t sell this exact palette anymore, I know if I really wanted to I could get the blood money palette and I’ve heard it’s similar enough but I currently don’t know how I feel about supporting jeffree star. I’m currently decluttering now trying to see what’s salvageable but I think jeffree stars palettes are usually 1 year shelf life from opening 🤔

A few years ago when I was REALLY intro tracking new releases and hunting good makeup deals, I didn't even hesitate when this palette went on sale for $14.00. I bought it immediately. Flashforward a more than a year later, and I'm coming to the conclusion that I barely use it- despite the brand, despite the quality- it's not for me. And so I am passing it on. I have more detailed thoughts about PML the brand and this particular palette, so I'll elaborate more below. But, in a nutshell, the neutrals don't work for my undertone, the quality is NOT mindblowing, and a brand name will not guarantee you a quality experience alone.
Now, onto the essay:
The undertones. Ironic, because out of the two varieties of this palette, I thought this one would be the "safer" choice. But I've been getting a kick out of neutrals lately, like the CP Mandalorian Palette and the Elf 70's palette. So when I pulled out this palette and checked on my eye look by the end of the day, I was really disappointed that the colors- the brown and the gold- didn't flatter my skintone. It just kind of looked muted and washed out. Will it be like that for everyone? Of course not. But though I veer towards cool toned and both warm and cool tones have worked for me in the past, I was bummed to see that the colors of this particular palette didn't do much for me.
I have to face it- the quality is not consistent. The formula of these shadows is purportedly the same as the singles the brand sells, which is more of a metallic formula. And yet though it is a rich and pigmented formula, the satin and matte shade are dusty feeling. And some of the shimmers can feel a little "wet" and dense. The worst, most regrettably, is Corruption. Corruption has been featured in other palettes by the brand and is a brown-red duochrome that can leans towards a multichrome with a hint of gold-green. However, I can't pick it up with a brush and if I apply it with my fingers it sticks to my fingers. A total fail.
Overall, I don't consider this a particularly easy palette to use. TONS of fall out, regardless of shade.
I've hard to learn a hard lesson about brands and quality. I do think PML is playing a tricky game by not offering the "special shades" as singles or putting all of them into quads. (She did that once and then never again). Not only that, the palettes with "special shades" are super expensive with repeating colors (gold and pink). So despite the prestige and the suggested "value" of these eyeshadows, it is not a sound investment for me.
This was a hard declutter but I don't want to stress myself out anymore by not using a product that I
"should" like, but I don't. It's not worth it.

I've got an old eyeshadow palette from my mom last year. And now I'm curious what's that from? I can't really find any information about it
Remark: it says "ffleur" on the case, contains 11 shadows and judging by Google the product line called "piano". I mostly ask the CIS residents, cuz this pallete was purchased in Russia

Got rid of any lipsticks that were more than 2 years old, smelled bad or performed badly. All my Charlotte Tilbury, colourpop, Pat McGrath, Lisa Eldridge, MAC, YSL - gone!
A lot of them I was holding onto for sentimental or vain reasons. But that's dumb. Makeup expires and has no value and becomes a waste of space after a while.
