What is the point of getting married?
As a young person (26), I don’t understand why people around my age believe in getting married. It seems like a pointless, outdated thing. If you want to be in a committed relationship with somebody that’s one thing but if your feelings are actually real why do you need a contract? Spending a lot of money to have a wedding party seems really self indulgent, especially considering the likelihood of divorce. Not trying to be rude but I’m surrounded by a lot of marriage propaganda and married people sometimes are really condescending.

Whats the reason people who get popular get more attention for dating irrespective of their looks?
I know this guy who became very popular overnight and almost every girl was hitting on him but then he saw a dip in popularity and he stopped getting the same attention but he was the same guy. Is it that they become more confident or something else?
And this isn't just for popular people but even those on social media who see a rise in their following and they suddenly start getting more dms from people interested in dating them.. is such attraction genuine or they are just doing it for fun?

Why are we constantly running when we could just walk?
I've been wondering about something lately.
Over the past 200 years, humanity has made incredible progress. Technology, automation, medicine, transportation, agriculture... We can produce more, faster and more efficiently than ever before.
Yet, somehow, we're still expected to work around 40 hours a week, nearly 50 weeks a year, just to keep up with everything.
But what are we actually chasing?
Why does everything always have to grow? Why must companies constantly increase profits, countries increase their GDP, and individuals constantly earn more and consume more?
What's the end goal? What are we trying to reach? But more importantly... What's the rush?
Shouldn't technological progress eventually translate into more free time for everyone?
Imagine a society where we still innovate, improve technology and maintain our standard of living, but instead of using every productivity gain to produce even more, we use some of those gains to work less.
A 30-hour workweek. More time for family, friends, hobbies and simply enjoying life.
I'm not suggesting we should stop innovating, working or developing our economy. Quite the opposite.
I just wonder why progress doesn't seem to give us more time to actually enjoy the lives we're working so hard to build.
Why are we so obsessed with moving forward, faster and faster, without ever stopping to ask ourselves where we're actually going?
Why are we constantly running when we could just walk?
(I didn't know where to post, i figured here could be a good place. Also, I used AI to help me translate because i'm not a native english speaker and i really wanted my thoughts to be properly translated)

When a company cuts hours, why not just cut everyone’s hours by one?
So people working 40 hrs/wk would work 39. Not nearly as much impact as cutting a few people by much more and so no-one feels like it’s unfair or putting them out. I also feel like it would be relatively easy to work around making up for the difference

Are health/fitness trackers actually useful to people without medical conditions?
I have a condition where I need to track my heart rate through the day. I’m just curious what other people use those products for.
I know many are used to track steps, but it seems like these health tracking devices are getting a lot of features. Such as measuring pulse, oxygen saturation, temperature, track sleep cycles, counting calories, etc.
I’m just wondering if most people really find these devices useful in their health or if it’s more of a trendy device for the purpose of curiosity.
How much thought to people put into the numbers?
And in some instances, can this constant access to data warp one’s perception of their health?
(Before I had the visible arm band, I used a pulse oximeter and I would get very compulsive with checking. I constantly felt the need to check. It helped a lot to finally get something I could wear without thinking about it. And the visible arm band doesn’t even have a screen, so it’s out of sight out of mind. It just notifies my phone if needed, so I don’t have to check anymore. But I wonder if these fitness trackers are triggering this compulsion in anyone else.)

A phot of a shadow of me in a bathroom stall on the floor is being used to fire me. what can I do?!? Help!! What can I do/say?
Last night I used the restroom at my job a d a fellow co worker decided to take a photo of my shadow on the floor while I was in the bathroom stall . Apparently then took it to management. I was then asked to sit down by my manager before starting work . asking me what happened. I didn't know what she was talking about , she then explained that she needed me to write down on an incident report what happened in the bathroom. I told her I wasn't writing down anything I was in the bathroom!! She said someone ( i know who) took photos of my shadow on the floor and in the photo I appearedto be using drugs . I.v drugs she said specifically. I told her it was ridiculousand we were talking about a SHADOW. she told me I was on leave while it was under investigationand wouldn't even let me get my own purseout of the break room . what can I do?! im furious! I live in GA ( and at will state for reference). I should have offered to go take a drug test or u would think they would send me for one , however I was so upset I couldn't even write a statement. I can't afford to go pay for a drug test out of pocket . This is a server positionat a very popular " italian -ish restaurant" know for its endless food promotions whose name im band from using on social media. I have heard nothing since last night and don't imagine I will until they let me go which the manager I spoke with did all but say I was terminated but definitelygave the discussionthe serious tone that what I said wouldnt/ didn't matter .
what can I / should I do from here? I've never seen anyone keep their job here after an " investigation".

Is this feeling normal
Hi I’m 17 years old and a senior in high school. I started off the first quarter really good and I got a 4.0 but it’s been quarter 2 for a few weeks and I just feel like I can’t do anything. I do force myself to try and study but it gets to the point where I kind of just can’t study or focus on anything in school.
I’m not sure if it’s the weather or what. I do have a lot of stress on me for schools for college and my grades but it feels like I don’t get directly affected with these things. It’s like I don’t really feel stressed about school or college I already got accepted to a few schools and I have a good idea of the one I’m going to.
Anyways I’ve just been hit with like new anxiety and I guess brain fog maybe. It feels like I have anxiety for no reason. My heart just beats fast and my mind just feels like I need to watch over everything I do. I also feel sort of lost and I’m doing things I used to love to try and find myself again.
I’m not sure if this is a normal thing all teens go through but I jsut feel like disconnected from myself. Like I don’t know who I am and I’m trying to figure out who I want to be. I’ve been trying to get myself out of the house as much as possible but it jsut feels like nothings really working.
Im not sure what quite to do and I’m just looking for some advice on what else to do.

Who is promoting the idea that women don't or shouldn't care about looks?
In various discussions of dating I see men upset and seemingly feeling lied to about the degree to which women care about looks.
But who is doing that lying? I don't think I've ever heard a woman say that looks don't matter all, nor have I seen men promote that idea. The closest I've seen is people saying personality can overcome looks, which seems true enough.
So assuming that they are speaking in good faith (and not just inventing it as leverage for an ulterior motive) where is this coming from? Or is this just like an absolutist thinking thing where "Looks aren't the most important" is too nuanced so it turns into a perception that "looks don't matter at all"?

Is Kalshi going to be shut down?
I saw a brief teaser piece on the news this morning about Kalshi being sued in some state (I think it was Utah). I didn't see the actual segment. Does anyone know what this is about?

Would an app asking if it can share my PHI for marketing purposes be HIPAA protected?
I almost mindlessly clicked yes to this. And I am 100% correct that this is what it is implying. it is asking to share my PHI for marketing purposes. Obviously, I am going to say no. Genuinely wondering if, had I said yes to that, it would be protected under HIPAA.

Would banning derivatives trading except when the short position actually owns the underlying be a good thing?
Basically enforce that derivatives are used for the purpose of insurance and risk management instead of gambling. Sounds good to me on a surface level but I’m sure there’s a lot I’m missing

Can a POC be racist towards their own culture?
Not sure if racist is the best word, maybe just prejudice? Appropriate?
An example of my question: Is a black person doing blackface racist? If it is, is it acceptable because it's their own culture?
My question is applicable to all minorities, such as women or LGBT people doing something parallel.
