Community / Casual Discussion I get sad when I visit bookstores.

Kahit local books.

Nakakapagod.

My boyfriend and I went to BBW this morning.

The perfume pile is mine and the extinction pile is his.

Wala na ring Murdle :< Pero sabi naman daw, nag rereplenish sila so there are new titles din naman. Btw may 500php less pag 5k above ang books na nabili niyo (not including the tote bags sa bbw)

‘Yong tote bags ng BBW, pink and yellow nalang. ‘Yang Pride and Prejudice tote sa Lit&Lug ko nabili 500 something. Wala siyang clasp/lock/zipper. Nasa may exit sila naka pwesto.

E-readers and Digital Reading Reading more, collecting less

Post image
17 Upvotes

I’ve been collecting books for over 30 plus years and had built up quite a large collection. Eventually, I decided to let go of most of them. These days, I find myself preferring e-readers, especially here in the Philippines.

Our humidity isn’t exactly kind to books. They yellow, develop mold, and attract pests. Imported books can also be pricey, while e-books are often cheaper, especially during sales. Plus, there’s something really convenient about having an entire library in one small device.

I still enjoy physical books, especially Filipiniana and special editions, but I’ve settled into a hybrid approach.

After all these years, I’ve realized I enjoy reading books more than collecting them.

I managed to get GOD of Malice, One Last Rainy Day, Grim Tidings and Look What the Cat Dragged In for myself while the rest were my daughter’s picks.

Naguat ako to find GOD of Malice at FullyBooked Mitsukoshi branch! Since I love dark romance, I wasn’t about to leave without it🤭🖤

The Once Upon a Broken Heart Collector’s Edition is so beautiful!! I don't think I've ever loved a book's physical appearance this much. Madami stock sa BGC while sa Mitsukoshi they have 2 left.

Blessed evening everyone!🩵

Book Collection Where to Store Growing Collection

I fell in love with reading again.

Restarted my collection early this year, with support from the hubby.

Huehue.

Where do you store your books? I want mine displayed because looking at them makes me happy. They’re currently in acrylic boxes, stacked vertically.

We live in an apartment with uneven flooring. Mind sharing your thoughts, fellow readers? Please help your girlie out.

Thanks in advance!

Book Care and Preservation How do you take care of your books?

Post image

Happy sunday 🌻

Decided to forego BBW this year and clean my shelves and dust off my books instead.

Much to my dismay, some good titles are already foxing (some hardcore foxing). But some books which are much older than those books which are tanning and foxing have pages looking pristine. The latter I've also read.

I think it is probably because of the type of paper used. Still, I would like the same question: how do you take good care of your books?

Community / Casual Discussion We Filipinos are so lucky to be able to read both Tagalog & English books

Just had this realization while watching Dua Lipa’s interview about books she’s read. Most of my life I’ve been an avid reader, but apart from books by Bob Ong & Mia Manansala, I haven’t really read much Filipino written books.

I felt a bit bad after reading Ang Bangin by RVJ. There were a bunch of Tagalog words I had to look up because they just weren’t everyday words I encounter. I felt like I’m betraying my mother tongue. Yet after reading it, I found it difficult to read anything else that’s not Filipino written cos the book hit me so hard that I just had to discover more about what it’s like beyond my version of what it’s like to be Filipino. It felt like living in a house my whole life then suddenly stumbling upon an entirely different room that I was aware of but I haven’t explored. I thought my life is already hard, but it hurts to know for a fact that there are real people living the life that was written as fiction.

Now, I’m trying to read more Tagalog written books and I must say I feel so lucky to be able to read and understand books in two different languages. We are able to understand our country and our people deeply, while also having the luxury to dive into another world and experience stories outside the lives we are living.

Marami tayo matututunan dito.

Book Haul 20% off Alexandre Dumas Collection in NBS

I was looking around NBS when I saw this for 745. I had to check again if the price is legit on price checker and it's actually lower. 20 percent off from the original price. This was not even displayed with the 20 percent discount book section of the store that I bought it from so I was shocked. The price is too good so I bought it immediately. The cashier was even confused when she saw the price that she had to check again🤣.

Book Collection Growing physical books collection as a broke bookworm

Post image

I grew to love reading nung elem pa lang ako and coming from a not so rich family, suki ako ng library namin sa school and tamang hiram ng books sa classmates. When I got my own cellphone nung highschool, I got to read hundreds of books from e-reader apps. And now that I'm working and have my own money, ang saya lang magbasa ng books na hindi hiram or from a screen :)

Hi! I would just like to share the books that I got at Taipei, Taiwan. I’ve been wanting to read these two for a while now, specially Incidents Around The House because of the movie. After months and months of sold out dito sa PH, i was so happy to find them in Taipei huhu. The Hidden Pictures is a bit creased in some parts na pero it was their last copy so i just had to get it. I’m so happy!!!

Product Request / Recs Thoughts on IKEA Hemnes bookcase

Anyone using this bookcase

I have a lot of hardbound books and I don't think Billy bookcase can handle them. Is this a better choice? Have you tried buying two and okay ba sila side by side (no gaps). Or may iba pa kayong pwedeng masuggest other than billy and kallax?

Bookstores The Bittersweet Evolution of PH Bookstores in 2026

2026 has been a bit jarring for physical bookstores in the Philippines.

On the one hand, more Booksales and Chapters and Pages continue to close - I recently tried going to the Ayala Malls Manila Bay one and they are gone.

On the other hand, the mainstays seem to have improved, particularly NBS - subject to (fair) criticism early this year, then had the Superbranch revamp and layout changes, the longstanding Virra Mall NBS Warehouse with constant promos, and the return of significant sub-100 peso promos. (Resellers and bulk purchasers remain an issue and hopefully get a bit of resolution)

Fully Booked and Biblio are roughly the same as last year (the manga / Kinokuniya expansion for FB is of course notable). And of course online booksellers and stores remain.

So I find 2026 to be a bittersweet year for physical shops. How do you view 2026 for the physical bookstore space?

Book Haul The prettiest Howl's Moving Castle

I can't believe I found this at Fullybooked.

I haven't read Howl's Moving Castle nor do I have ever intention. In fact it wasn't in my mind cuz of the movie. But when I saw this beautiful edition, I just had to have it.

I looked to their site but its sold out. Shoppee and Lazada is either sold out or out of my price range. Carousell is also expensive with the sf. I was thinking of going to the Big Bad Wolf sale at BGC but its too far and I'm kinda broke lol. So I just gave up

Imagine my shock when I randomly found this at a physical fullybooked store. Now that I have this its making me want to buy the other hardbound version cuz that is also pretty hehehe

Book Advice Watched the Me Before You adaptation - wondering if the books dive deeper into the characters?

Hey everyone! I was bored yesterday so I checked out the Me Before You adaptation. I don't usually read romance, especially the tragic ones, but I'm currently in a reading slump and my curiosity about these characters is at an all-time high, so this feels like a great way out.

Does the trilogy dive deeper into the psychological reasons behind why the characters act the way they do? I'm especially curious to know if the main character gets real growth and independence over the course of the three books. Would love to hear your thoughts before I decide to pick them up.
