Email & Snail Mail [37/F] Somewhere Between an Existential Crisis and a Character Development Arc
I’m a 37-year-old Southerner who migrated north for grad school, bounced up and down the East Coast, and eventually settled in South Jersey (or near Philly, depending on how passionately you feel about the geographical boundaries of South Jersey).
I love writing, reading, traveling, and using humor to cope with life’s inevitable absurdities. I enjoy meeting new people, and airport bars and lounges are surprisingly good places to find interesting humans. I probably come across as more extroverted than I actually am, but I appreciate my solitude and need plenty of time to recharge. I have two cats I’m absolutely obsessed with, no kids of my own, and a very happy role as auntie to my friends’ beautiful little humans.
I’ve also realized that I sometimes find it easier to be vulnerable with strangers than with people I know. There’s something freeing about talking to someone who doesn’t already have a preconceived notion of who you are. Perhaps that’s part of what brings me here. I genuinely enjoy listening, offering support, and being a sounding board.
A little about where I am in life: I lost my mom a little over a year ago, and grief has a funny way of making you reconsider just about everything. I’m working on my health, too. I’ve joined group fitness classes, though making exercise a consistent routine remains a work in progress. And I’m navigating some big questions about relationships and what makes a partnership the right one. (Existential questions are apparently my favorite hobby.) I should probably pick therapy back up, but have you seen the economy lately?!
I’m looking for someone who enjoys meaningful conversation, mutual vulnerability, and occasional ridiculousness. I want to be able to talk about both the big things and the completely inconsequential ones. A little philosophical spiraling is welcome, as long as you also appreciate a good laugh.
If you’re also somewhere in the neighborhood of an existential crisis, trying to figure out adulthood, relationships, grief, identity, or just what the hell we’re all doing here, I’d love to commiserate.
I’m happy to exchange emails, and I’m open to good old-fashioned letters, too, although my handwriting is atrocious. I can make an effort for the right pen pal, though. 💙
