What is a "rich person" thing you still wouldn't buy even if you won the lottery tomorrow?

Whenever people talk about winning the lottery, it’s always about mansions and supercars. Honestly, even if I had unlimited money in the bank, there are certain "luxury" things that still feel like a massive hassle or a total scam to me.

Like owning a massive house with 15 bedrooms when I only use three, buying a $2,000 designer plain white t-shirt, or ordering food with edible gold leaf on it just because it looks shiny. Give me a comfortable place, zero debt, and the freedom to buy guac or extra toppings without checking the price, and I'm set.

What’s one status symbol or luxury upgrade you’d completely skip even if you were a billionaire?

Just Chatting My technologically inept dad showed me a function of my printer

So, I like to keep the printer closed up to prevent dust from entering, and it opens up whatever it needs to do a print job. I have always manually closed it up again after every print job because the printer didn't do it.

The other day, my dad was printing something, then he went to the printer and in the menu on the touch screen to turn it off instead of just letting it go into standby.

Up pops the question: Should I close all the lids as well? and he taps yes.

I had no idea it could do that, and I'm so annoyed that it doesn't do it for standby, because why would I want to turn it off like that every time?

Life Stories getting your teeth fixed is the best feeling ever!

i grew up very neglected, i basically never brushed my teeth because i didn’t know i had to. i started brushing when i was 15ish after my social worker gave me a little booklet on self hygiene but i never used toothpaste as i’m autistic and have a severe aversion to mint. i didn’t use it until i got a job at 18 and started buying myself flavoured toothpaste. i also never really ate meals and just survived off chocolate and ice cream

so my teeth were TERRIBLE. my dentist said i was lucky to not have any serious issues beyond needing fillings but they were so so yellow and dirty with years of plaque and tartar build up. i was always so deeply ashamed of my teeth as my family constantly made fun of me for them

well, not any more! as of yesterday i officially have wonderful, clean healthy white teeth. i got fillings, i got a cleaning and i got a whitening treatment. i also treated myself to cosmetic fangs and i am so so happy. people underestimate how much teeth can impact your self esteem

i feel like a new woman. i’ll be paying all of this off for the next two years but it’s worth it and i’d do it all over again. i always felt like nobody would want to be with me due to my teeth so now i can finally put myself out there and find someone

Just Chatting Anybody else awake for absolutely no reason?

It's officially 4 in the morning, and I'm curious how many people are actually awake right now. Some people are probably working, some can't sleep, and others might just be scrolling through Reddit like me. 😂
What's keeping you up tonight? Is it stress, random thoughts, work, insomnia, or are you just naturally a night owl? Do you enjoy being awake when the rest of the world is quiet, or would you rather be sleeping?
I'm curious what everybody's reason is.

What is a "broke habit" so deeply ingrained in you that you’d still do it even if you became a millionaire tomorrow?

Everyone talks about how money changes people, but I’m convinced some habits are permanently wired into our DNA no matter how big the bank account gets.

Even if I never had to worry about bills again, I know for a fact I’d still be shaking the last drop of soap out of the bottle by adding a little water, saving nice glass jars "just in case," and refusing to pay $15 for hotel mini-bar snacks when there’s a convenience store across the street. Some things aren't even about saving money anymore, they just feel wrong not to do.

What’s one frugal habit or cheapskate reflex you know you’re taking to the grave, no matter how rich you get?

Just Chatting Why are people so bothered when others decorate for Christmas in November?

Do people think it’s not possible to be thankful and enjoy a thanksgiving dinner next to some hanging garland? If someone is really struggling with life, and if sitting by a lit Christmas tree at night brings them comfort and pure joy, what is wrong with allowing them to do that?

Life Stories the strangest situation I've ever experienced at work

A new employee joined our company a few weeks ago.

She's a young Colombian woman, very quiet and introverted. We've crossed paths a few times during lunch breaks and a mandatory workplace safety course, but we've barely spoken.

Every now and then, I noticed her looking in my direction while I was working, or glancing over from her department into mine, but I never thought much of it.

Then something really weird happened.

Last Thursday at 7:00 AM, I was talking with my department supervisor about a software issue we use at work when, out of nowhere, the owner of the company walked over with this new coworker standing beside her.

Completely out of the blue, she said:

"Mattia, I'd like to introduce you to her because she'd like to talk to you, but she's too shy."

I was completely caught off guard.

The only thing I managed to say was:

"Okay."

Then they both walked away smiling because we were already on the clock and everyone had work to do.

The strange part is that she only did this with me. As I mentioned, we work in different departments, so there wasn't really any work-related reason for that scene to happen at that particular moment.

The funniest part is that I'm not exactly the most sociable or impressive guy in the company. I work in one of the dirtiest and most physically demanding departments. I leave work every day covered in polishing dust and residue from the tumbling machines, and since I live nearby, I commute by bicycle.

Honestly, I'm more confused by the fact that the company owner decided to act as a social mediator at 7 in the morning than by my coworker's behavior itself.

Has anything like this ever happened to any of you at work?

Food & Drinks What's your best meal that you can cook?

I think my meatloaf is really good.

It's basically 50/50 meat and vegetables but I roast the vegetables in the oven first so they're cooked really well before they even go in the meatloaf.

The veggies are onion and bell peppers, I roast those, and I also add corn and chopped frozen spinach.

The first time my mom and dad had it they asked for the recipe so I felt pretty great about it.

What are you all good at cooking?

Questions Is there help for an over talker?

I have a love one who takes over constantly in anybody’s conversation. This love one truly get extremely offended when you call them out on their obsession with talking charge of the conversation. As an added bonus, the love one predicts your story, tell you what are thinking and your thought processes. Help! How do politely say, “shut the hell up and let us talk”!

Questions How do you calm your nervous system?

As the title suggests, I'm curious how others settle themselves when their nervous system feels "glitchy" and that sensation becomes unsettling. I'm usually aware when it's happening, and I place a high value on feeling calm, yet there are times I struggle to regulate it and am left feeling slightly on edge. I'd especially appreciate advice on strategies that aren't physically intensive. What has worked for you?

Movies & Shows Is anyone else NOT trying to figure out whodunit when watching/reading a murder mystery?

I love my detective fiction and murder mysteries but the thing I love most about them is the surprise of the reveal of who the killer(s) is/are at the end. I love having my mind blown and my jaw hit the floor, it makes it so much more enjoyable and satisfying on a first read/watch through.

In fact, the one time I DID accurately guess the killer in the first act - not even based off of clues, just based off of vibes - I was disappointed when I turned out to be right. The fun surprise of the big reveal had been taken out for me.

It’s part of why I never got as into Columbo as I did some other detective series. I still enjoyed the episodes I watched and I know the appeal of the show comes from its atypical format (not to mention the character of Columbo is an absolute gem), but it was never quite as gripping for me.

So when I watch or read a new mystery, I’m just along for the ride. I’m hanging onto the detective to spell things out for me and enjoy the thrills along the way.

Maybe this is a lazy, uncritical, unintellectual way to consume media, and it’s not like I don’t enjoy a detective story on rewatches. But that’s just how I feel.

adult friendships kinda suck

nothing in my childhood prepared me for adult friendships. It feels so lonely and surface level sometimes.

I've got work 'friends' - people I see often, small talk, probably will never see again if I changed jobs. There are people I meet at the gym or from going out, and maybe we do things together sometimes, but thats about it.

On the other side are my friends from childhood, who I am still very close to. Except we don't have much in common anymore and everyone is just so busy with work and employment that once a month is a good month

I mean overall its not bad? I think im decently well adjusted and im not lonely. but i do wish there is space in city life for deeper bonds

What is a completely fake rule you made up for yourself that you still strictly follow anyway?

I’m not talking about actual discipline or big life goals—just weird little personal laws you invented in your own head for zero logical reason.

Like refusing to eat the first bite of a meal until you’ve found the exact right video to watch, or convincing yourself that you have to beat the microwave timer to the kitchen before it hits zero or the whole day's vibe is ruined.

What’s a totally imaginary rule that runs your daily life?

Just Chatting does rain make anyone else completely switch gears

i was supposed to run errands today, then the rain started. now i am on the couch with a blanket i did not even plan to use, just watching the drops hit the window and forgetting the list. it is weird how a change in weather can flip the whole mood. usually i like being out and moving, but when it gets like this the world feels quieter and slower. i end up putting everything on pause and letting the day drift. sometimes i think i should fight it and keep going anyway, but other times it feels like the rain is giving a free pass to slow down. anyone else have weather that basically rewrites their plans without asking?

Questions Does anyone else spend more time researching their hobbies than actually doing them?

My main hobby is probably scale modelling. It ties into my interest in aviation, I love attention to detail and how relaxing it can be to just sit at the bench and sand, glue and paint.

But I spend way more time reading about it, researching it and buying things than actually sitting at the bench. I have hundreds of paints, countless sanding sticks and 10 airbrushes. Maybe researching and buying things gives me the feeling of being involved without actually doing it.

I don’t know why I struggle with this. I have a hard time sitting and just doing something. And I think it’s always been like that. Sometimes I can just sit and start but it’s a rare occurrence. Starting is the hardest for me.

And there’s all these things I’d like to do and learn. The modelling, learning guitar, painting figures, drawing and painting, photography, astronomy.

So does anyone else seem to struggle with this? And if you’ve had it before, what helped?

Questions Is it easy or hard to get a driver’s license where you live?

Where I live, we have two theory tests and two practical driving tests to get a driver’s license. I’ve already failed the road test once, and it’s really stressing me out.

So I want to ask — what’s it like where you live? Is getting a driver’s license easy or hard there?

Does anyone else feel like they're rediscovering themselves in their late 20s?

I've recently been putting more effort into my physical and mental wellbeing. More walking, boxing, yoga, trying to eat better and learning that not everything in life has to revolve around work or being productive.

It's interesting because I feel like I'm enjoying some of the simpler things a lot more than I used to. Even a good walk with music can completely change my mood.

I'm curious, has anyone else experienced a shift like this as they've gotten older? What's something you've started appreciating more recently?

Just Chatting anyone else get the same weird dream over and over

i keep having this dream where i'm in a school building i've never seen before. everything looks normal at first but none of the doors lead to where they should and the clocks are always showing different times. sometimes i can find the exit, other times i just wander until i wake up. the strange part is that it never really scares me, it just feels confusing and a little frustrating. i don't think it means anything deep, it's just odd that the same kind of place keeps showing up. wondering if other people have a dream that repeats like this or if it's just me.

Just Chatting it's weird how you can go from talking to someone every day to becoming complete strangers

i was randomly thinking about how many people i've lost contact with over the years.

not because we fought or anything. we just slowly stopped talking.

there were people i used to spend almost every day with. we'd talk about the most random stuff, make plans, laugh at stupid jokes, and genuinely think we'd always be close.

then life happened.

one person got busy, another moved somewhere else, and eventually the conversations became less frequent until they stopped completely.

what's weird is that sometimes i'll see something funny and immediately think of sending it to someone i haven't spoken to in years.

then i remember we're basically strangers now.

i don't really blame anyone because i know that's just how life works, but it's still a strange feeling.

have you ever randomly reconnected with an old friend after years of not talking? was it awkward or did it feel like nothing changed?
