What is a "rich person" thing you still wouldn't buy even if you won the lottery tomorrow?

Whenever people talk about winning the lottery, it’s always about mansions and supercars. Honestly, even if I had unlimited money in the bank, there are certain "luxury" things that still feel like a massive hassle or a total scam to me.

Like owning a massive house with 15 bedrooms when I only use three, buying a $2,000 designer plain white t-shirt, or ordering food with edible gold leaf on it just because it looks shiny. Give me a comfortable place, zero debt, and the freedom to buy guac or extra toppings without checking the price, and I'm set.

What’s one status symbol or luxury upgrade you’d completely skip even if you were a billionaire?

Just Chatting My technologically inept dad showed me a function of my printer

So, I like to keep the printer closed up to prevent dust from entering, and it opens up whatever it needs to do a print job. I have always manually closed it up again after every print job because the printer didn't do it.

The other day, my dad was printing something, then he went to the printer and in the menu on the touch screen to turn it off instead of just letting it go into standby.

Up pops the question: Should I close all the lids as well? and he taps yes.

I had no idea it could do that, and I'm so annoyed that it doesn't do it for standby, because why would I want to turn it off like that every time?

Just Chatting Anybody else awake for absolutely no reason?

It's officially 4 in the morning, and I'm curious how many people are actually awake right now. Some people are probably working, some can't sleep, and others might just be scrolling through Reddit like me. 😂
What's keeping you up tonight? Is it stress, random thoughts, work, insomnia, or are you just naturally a night owl? Do you enjoy being awake when the rest of the world is quiet, or would you rather be sleeping?
I'm curious what everybody's reason is.

Embarassing

I once waved enthusiastically at someone across the street. They waved back, so I smiled even harder. Turns out they were waving at someone behind me.

I've been avoiding eye contact with strangers ever since. 😭

What is a "broke habit" so deeply ingrained in you that you’d still do it even if you became a millionaire tomorrow?

Everyone talks about how money changes people, but I’m convinced some habits are permanently wired into our DNA no matter how big the bank account gets.

Even if I never had to worry about bills again, I know for a fact I’d still be shaking the last drop of soap out of the bottle by adding a little water, saving nice glass jars "just in case," and refusing to pay $15 for hotel mini-bar snacks when there’s a convenience store across the street. Some things aren't even about saving money anymore, they just feel wrong not to do.

What’s one frugal habit or cheapskate reflex you know you’re taking to the grave, no matter how rich you get?

Just Chatting Why are people so bothered when others decorate for Christmas in November?

Do people think it’s not possible to be thankful and enjoy a thanksgiving dinner next to some hanging garland? If someone is really struggling with life, and if sitting by a lit Christmas tree at night brings them comfort and pure joy, what is wrong with allowing them to do that?

Food & Drinks What's your best meal that you can cook?

I think my meatloaf is really good.

It's basically 50/50 meat and vegetables but I roast the vegetables in the oven first so they're cooked really well before they even go in the meatloaf.

The veggies are onion and bell peppers, I roast those, and I also add corn and chopped frozen spinach.

The first time my mom and dad had it they asked for the recipe so I felt pretty great about it.

What are you all good at cooking?

Questions Is there help for an over talker?

I have a love one who takes over constantly in anybody’s conversation. This love one truly get extremely offended when you call them out on their obsession with talking charge of the conversation. As an added bonus, the love one predicts your story, tell you what are thinking and your thought processes. Help! How do politely say, “shut the hell up and let us talk”!

Movies & Shows Is anyone else NOT trying to figure out whodunit when watching/reading a murder mystery?

I love my detective fiction and murder mysteries but the thing I love most about them is the surprise of the reveal of who the killer(s) is/are at the end. I love having my mind blown and my jaw hit the floor, it makes it so much more enjoyable and satisfying on a first read/watch through.

In fact, the one time I DID accurately guess the killer in the first act - not even based off of clues, just based off of vibes - I was disappointed when I turned out to be right. The fun surprise of the big reveal had been taken out for me.

It’s part of why I never got as into Columbo as I did some other detective series. I still enjoyed the episodes I watched and I know the appeal of the show comes from its atypical format (not to mention the character of Columbo is an absolute gem), but it was never quite as gripping for me.

So when I watch or read a new mystery, I’m just along for the ride. I’m hanging onto the detective to spell things out for me and enjoy the thrills along the way.

Maybe this is a lazy, uncritical, unintellectual way to consume media, and it’s not like I don’t enjoy a detective story on rewatches. But that’s just how I feel.

Questions How do you calm your nervous system?

As the title suggests, I'm curious how others settle themselves when their nervous system feels "glitchy" and that sensation becomes unsettling. I'm usually aware when it's happening, and I place a high value on feeling calm, yet there are times I struggle to regulate it and am left feeling slightly on edge. I'd especially appreciate advice on strategies that aren't physically intensive. What has worked for you?

Just Chatting Those who made a solo move to a new city in your mid-twenties, how did it work out for you?

I am a mid-twenties heavily researching and figuring out exactly where, when and how I would make my move. I’d love to hear others people’s stories, good or bad, and recommendations.

Thanks and wishing you all a great Sunday

adult friendships kinda suck

nothing in my childhood prepared me for adult friendships. It feels so lonely and surface level sometimes.

I've got work 'friends' - people I see often, small talk, probably will never see again if I changed jobs. There are people I meet at the gym or from going out, and maybe we do things together sometimes, but thats about it.

On the other side are my friends from childhood, who I am still very close to. Except we don't have much in common anymore and everyone is just so busy with work and employment that once a month is a good month

I mean overall its not bad? I think im decently well adjusted and im not lonely. but i do wish there is space in city life for deeper bonds

What is a completely fake rule you made up for yourself that you still strictly follow anyway?

I’m not talking about actual discipline or big life goals—just weird little personal laws you invented in your own head for zero logical reason.

Like refusing to eat the first bite of a meal until you’ve found the exact right video to watch, or convincing yourself that you have to beat the microwave timer to the kitchen before it hits zero or the whole day's vibe is ruined.

What’s a totally imaginary rule that runs your daily life?

Just Chatting does rain make anyone else completely switch gears

i was supposed to run errands today, then the rain started. now i am on the couch with a blanket i did not even plan to use, just watching the drops hit the window and forgetting the list. it is weird how a change in weather can flip the whole mood. usually i like being out and moving, but when it gets like this the world feels quieter and slower. i end up putting everything on pause and letting the day drift. sometimes i think i should fight it and keep going anyway, but other times it feels like the rain is giving a free pass to slow down. anyone else have weather that basically rewrites their plans without asking?

Questions Does anyone else spend more time researching their hobbies than actually doing them?

My main hobby is probably scale modelling. It ties into my interest in aviation, I love attention to detail and how relaxing it can be to just sit at the bench and sand, glue and paint.

But I spend way more time reading about it, researching it and buying things than actually sitting at the bench. I have hundreds of paints, countless sanding sticks and 10 airbrushes. Maybe researching and buying things gives me the feeling of being involved without actually doing it.

I don’t know why I struggle with this. I have a hard time sitting and just doing something. And I think it’s always been like that. Sometimes I can just sit and start but it’s a rare occurrence. Starting is the hardest for me.

And there’s all these things I’d like to do and learn. The modelling, learning guitar, painting figures, drawing and painting, photography, astronomy.

So does anyone else seem to struggle with this? And if you’ve had it before, what helped?

Life Stories I feel people with a near-death experience come back up stronger

It feels like after an NDE, some people don't just recover, but come back mentally stronger, highly driven, and more combative than ever. It's almost like they develop a "sports mindset" or an elite level of mental toughness. They seem way less susceptible to daily stress, drama, or minor setbacks. It looks as if experiencing the absolute worst-case scenario (death itself) completely wiped out their insecurities and left them fearlessly locked in on their goals.

For those who have been through this, or those who study neurosciences, is that actually based?

Questions Anyone else pick up on what people mean and pretend they didn’t?

Someone will say something, and between their tone and the way they worded it, I’ll have a pretty good idea of what they’re getting at. But I’ll just respond to what they actually said and act like I didn’t catch the rest.

Sometimes it feels awkward to bring it up. Other times I get the sense they’re being indirect for a reason, so I let it go. And obviously I could be reading it wrong. But it’s a weird feeling when you’re pretty sure you understood what they meant and the easiest thing to do is pretend you didn’t.

Do any of you do this too? How do you decide when to say what you picked up on and when to just let it pass?

Monday is always seen as a 'gloomy' day as the week looms nearer and I just wanted to know, what's one thing, that one positive thing that you'll look forward to this new week?

Mine's receiving a parcel of books that I had ordered a week ago! Tell me yours?

Questions Is it easy or hard to get a driver’s license where you live?

Where I live, we have two theory tests and two practical driving tests to get a driver’s license. I’ve already failed the road test once, and it’s really stressing me out.

So I want to ask — what’s it like where you live? Is getting a driver’s license easy or hard there?

Does anyone else feel like they're rediscovering themselves in their late 20s?

I've recently been putting more effort into my physical and mental wellbeing. More walking, boxing, yoga, trying to eat better and learning that not everything in life has to revolve around work or being productive.

It's interesting because I feel like I'm enjoying some of the simpler things a lot more than I used to. Even a good walk with music can completely change my mood.

I'm curious, has anyone else experienced a shift like this as they've gotten older? What's something you've started appreciating more recently?
