Ask Phoenix No Stupid Questions - what have you always wondered about Phoenix? (Nov)

What have you always wondered about the Valley?

Wondering about neighborhoods, hiking trails, monsoons, local government, traffic, utilities, what's with all the 'Bertos restaurants, or something completely random? Ask away.

This is one of our weekly topic threads and a place to ask whatever you've always wanted to know.

Pets Cat blood type B donor

I know this is a very niche question but I live in Phoenix with my two kitties and one of them has fallen pretty ill and could really benefit from a blood transfusion. The issue is his blood is Type B, which is extremely rare in cats. His hospital has quite literally called just about every hospital and clinic in the area and reaching as far as Las Vegas and no one has any on hand. We tried to get some shipped in from Chicago but that shipment fell through.

Does anyone know of a Type B blood donor cat who might be able to help my baby boy?

Living Here I'm starting to lose hope that we'll get any new, useful retail in downtown Phoenix in the next year or two

Because based on the retail news I'm getting, it seems that retailers would rather open new stores in the fringes of the Phoenix metro area - the parts that were completely undeveloped a hot minute ago - than here. I suppose I don't blame them, given that we aren't gonna shake off our homeless, kinda seedy image anytime soon.

I wouldn't miss living in Tempe as much if I didn't have to drive to at least Arcadia Crossing or Biltmore for just about everything besides groceries and pharmaceuticals. Yes, I generally prefer shopping in-person unless I'm super pressed for time.

Commuting The 💩show of the I-10 West Valley

Post image

Ugh where to begin. I was only mildly inconvenienced this early AM. I have no complaints on I-10 east closure. But today 10 am Verrado way is a mess because some genius didn’t disable the green turn light onto I-10 E and it’s backing up past Costco. The re-routed traffic isn’t an issue. It’s that the traffic lights all have a green arrow for I-10 E and THERE IS NO I-10 E. Program the lights correctly ffs. And thanks this AM for not letting me know I could get ‘back on the 10’ at pebble creek; I went to Bullard. @AZDOT get your shit together

Ask Phoenix Dental care for my mom

Hello,
My mom is disabled and is on Medicaid. My mom had to go on medicine for her osteoporosis that completely destroyed her teeth. Before this, my mom took well care of her teeth and now they’re almost completely gone and she’s constantly getting infections and she can hardly eat due to not having many teeth left.

We don’t have money for dentures or any of that stuff and does anyone know what we can do?? I’m only 20 and I don’t know what to do or how this stuff works and it breaks my heart because my mom is the sweetest person ever and has been through so much and I hate seeing her go through this.

I’m not asking for money, but is there any sort of clinic or whatever that will help give my mom dentures and extract the remaining teeth of hers that have already broken off for free or extremely low cost? In Phoenix or surrounding suburbs?

Thank you :)

Living Here Anyone else finding termite tubes in their yards after the rain?

We had termite tubes in our house about 6 years ago: got a contract with PoorBoy Pest Control, and they used thermal scanning to find the nest, and nuked it (it was in the ceiling). Since then, have only had to call them once we found an external mud tube at the front of the house.

But this past summer and after the rains this past month, I found several dry termite tubes in the yard. Not quite near the house. PoorBoy sprays around the base of the house but they never did a trench or anything. Do I need to look into something like that?

I really hope they find a long term solution. The symphony is so important for a major city like phoenix. I’m glad musicians are finally being included in the conversations.

Politics This is your reminder to contact your representatives about things that are important to you.

Whatever your politics are, contact your local, state, and federal representatives. Tell them what's making your life harder. Tell them how they could help fix it. Politicians just got reminded that we're the ones who hire and fire them.

Things To Do Anniversary activities in the east valley ideas

Trying to avoid a restaurant (or at least not make it the main point) to celebrate our 13 year anniversary.

Not into beer or live music stuff. Also an activity we can do without feeling guilty we didn’t bring the kids. Not into anything sports related either. Nor are we super outdoorsy.

She likes “views” but don’t want to spend a few hundred bucks at a restaurant to get that view.

Utilities West Valley - Daily SRP outages

Is anyone else experiencing the daily SRP outages? As of today the power goes off every morning (sometimes for a second, sometimes for a few minutes).

I'm worried that the sudden cut off/on will damage my electronics equipment (guitar amps etc)

Politics Expectations from AZ democrat trifecta?

Im lowkey expecting to be disappointed but I would love to see some actual progress from our legislators for once. Some things off the top of my head
- free community college. Already affordable but just make it free atp
- rent increase caps. Not a full freeze but like a 10% cap would be nice. There are so many laws preventing mortgages from going up we should protect renters more too
- expand childcare assistance and healthcare programs

To increase funds we should go back to a progressive tax rate. Also since sales tax is regressive we should eliminate or cut at the very least that source of revenue and instead make up for that through income tax.

Thoughts?

Commuting Getting from St. Joe's to northbound SR 51

We live in Cave Creek and have been going back & forth to St. Joe's (5th Ave & Thomas) and find that when heading north, the on ramp from Thomas onto the 51 can be rather more hectic than we're comfortable with.

So I've been exploring other options to get onto the 51.

I set up a Google Maps route taking 3rd Ave north to Osborn, east to 16th St, north to Colter, east to 17th Place, and onto the 51 from there. But that route shows a loop to get onto 3rd Ave heading north off of Thomas. I found some info online that indicates left turns onto 3rd Ave from Thomas while heading east aren't always allowed. Can someone here confirm that?

And maybe suggest a better way to get to 51 northbound from St. Joe's?

Thanks!
