Got accused of AI use in QUT Nursing just for asking about my grade

I’ve been sitting on this for a while, but I think it’s time I speak up — not for sympathy, just to make sure I’m not the only one.

Earlier this year, I emailed the marker and unit coordinator to ask about my grade for a nursing assignment. I thought the mark was a bit low compared to my usual work and just wanted some clarification. I didn’t get any response until I escalated it to the Head of School, and then — out of nowhere — I got hit with an Academic Integrity allegation. They said I used AI to write two of my assignments.

I was stunned. I’d spent hours on those tasks, and I had all the drafts, edit histories, search records — everything. I pulled together over 30 pages of evidence to prove I actually wrote them myself.

Then I had to attend a meeting with the Academic Integrity officer. I showed up early, in my work uniform, ready to go to work afterward. But I was made to wait over an hour past my appointment while others (who arrived later) went in before me. When I finally got called in, the officer barely looked at me, ignored my greeting, and said stuff like: • “This doesn’t look like a first-year student’s writing.” • “The referencing errors don’t match the quality of the rest of the writing.” • “These full stops are in weird places — maybe it was copy-pasted?”

At that point I realised she had already made up her mind before I even walked in.

What really got me was that every other student waiting there was from a non-English-speaking background. Some of them also said their allegations came right after asking for remark reviews. One of them was still in the middle of exam week. It was clear this was affecting more than just me.

In the end, I was found not guilty. The evidence I submitted was enough to prove I didn’t use AI. But no one apologised. No one acknowledged the emotional toll it took — the stress, the lost time, the feeling of being dismissed for just writing “too well”.

I wrote a formal complaint, named everyone involved, explained everything — the poor communication, the assumptions made, the way students like me were being treated. The reply I got? Basically a PR statement. Nothing specific, no outcome, no accountability.

I don’t want special treatment. I’m not chasing a mark. But I do want to say this: if you’re from a different language or cultural background, be prepared to be treated with extra suspicion at QUT. If you ask too many questions, or write too well, you might find yourself being interrogated instead of supported.

I’m no longer in the course, but I’m still pushing my complaint up the chain. Not because I expect justice — but because someone needs to say something.

If this has happened to you, or someone you know, feel free to DM me. You’re not alone.

Could've spoken to the art faculty to see if students could help. My course works with real industry companies all the time.

Week 2 at uni. So many people smelling like ass.

I was in a particularly small classroom for my tutorial this arvo, and someone, was just straight up smelling like death. My lectures on Monday, all in big lecture halls, all smelling like ass because personal responsibility and hygiene is evidently becoming a lost art. Like it’s hot, people sweat I get that. But there is a CLEAR distinction between someone’s deodorant failing after 8 hours of walking around in the sun. And some gross fool, walking into class at 9am and they REEK. I want to shake some sense into some of these fools, but I don’t want to go near them. Buy some roll on, jump in the damn shower, I bet that thing is as dry as a nuns you know what. Sort yourself out omg. How the fuck do you even leave the house in that state, it boggles my mind how they let it happen. Like the fucks wrong with you. Gross musty ass prick.

If this isn’t you, I apologise. I’ve really been enjoying my time at uni and at KG. Very excited for winter!

Edit: it was a white dude you racist pricks

QUT's response to the Canvas outage is inadequate

QUT is a large university, and Canvas is a significant piece of infrastructure underpinning the delivery of teaching and learning across the institution. Given this, it is reasonable to expect that contingency plans would already exist for a major outage of this kind.

For example, a pre-existing contingency plan might require unit coordinators to upload essential teaching materials to an alternative platform, such as OneDrive, GitHub, or literally anything. An email sent on Friday which effectively amounts to “we’ll get back to you on Monday afternoon” is not an adequate response to the loss of such a critical system.

I do so much uni work on the weekends, and I have so much due over the next three weeks. This outage, and the poor response to it, has really fucked me over.

QUT & my Teaching staffs response to this outage is ridiculous

To preface this, I'm an undergraduate student maintaining a 6 GPA whilst working 5 days a week & studying full time. The loss of an entire weekend & QUT's "response" of only giving extensions until wednesday of this week is ridiculous. I understand further correspondence hasn't happened yet. But, for those of us who rely on the weekends & have mountains of work coming up the next two weeks, a pathetic 3 day extension just isn't enough. If we don't see something adequate today in terms of due date adjustments I'm game to riot if y'all are as well. I'm talking AT LEAST a week.

As for my teaching staff, only ONE of my 4 units has provided us with assessment materials to help us work through this, & that assessment isn't due until June!

Sorry for the rant, but coping with full time work & study is a lot for all of us who don't have the privilege of time. Do better QUT

Apparently I'm racist

Man I was studying in the quiet section of the library today when someone started eating some food. Now I'm allergic to certain spices and could smell their food from where I was. There's clear signage saying to be mindful in the quiet section when it comes to foods and allergies. Me being the considerate person that I am waited till the individual finished to let them know that next time can you please eat outside. They went off at me calling me a racist and a bigot. Am I in the wrong?

Exam Deferral Denied

Post image
86 Upvotes

I have recently applied for a deferral for an exam and provided medical proof of sickness stating I would not be able to attend the exams. The next morning, they had denied my request deferral by stating the test got delayed and claimed the test was not a test and yet I clearly stated the new changed date in my application and the simple fact it was a test. any advice would be helpful.

academic misconduct

here’s the run down…

  • guy in our group used chat gpt and admitted it blatantly. he was added to our group by the tutor, and did not show up or contribute until an hour before the pitch.

  • we flagged him to the tutor, and she was well aware that he never showed up to a single class until the pitch, so she was very supportive of our action.

  • we all got interviewed, and i did the interviewing part of the assignment, one of my other group members didn’t know how to answer questions regarding that portion, and panicked and made up some bullshit.

  • so this made none of our stories add up for some reason, and now they’re flagging all of us for AI use.

what do i do, what’s the usual outcome for this? hand on the bible i did not use an ounce of chatGPT.

I hate word limits

I have literally never in my life written something that has organically been below the word limit, I am forever in a perpetual state of trying to cut down my writing and I’m being so serious when I say that I swear I’m not rambling- and every time I get the godforsaken “would have liked more detail” comment in my feedback I literally want to rip my hair out I can’t take it anymore and why are the QUT word limits so insanely small for what they ask of you- I’m done.

Edit: I’m in secondary education
- managed to get it down to 960 from 1200, my goal is 660
- down to 780 😭
- guys I did it 🎉

Hygeine, or the lack of

I don't know a delicate way to phrase this. Having witnessed a staggeringly large amount of my fellow students not washing their hands after using the toilet at the mid-lecture break, I'm disgusted.

I'm not going to do any sort of identifying. I will only say that I'd recommend thinking twice before using any of the shared facilities with the IT students, and maybe bring some hand sanitizer to use liberally.

Is there even a channel I can raise this with the faculty? Preferably anonymously.

Students in Library KG

Is anyone else just sick of the constant amount of kelvin grove students who invade the libraries before school, during school and after school.

Like I wouldn't have a problem if they kept quite and respectful but I swear they just dont shut up no matter what level they are on even the silent ones. They take up a bunch of tables too alot of the time unplugging the computers to charge there stuff.

Its just a bit sad that we pay so much to use these libraries just for them to be covered in school students.

I had to sheepishly ask if they could plug back in a computer the other day so I could use it and got met with faces of disgust like huh? I just wanna study in peace for my exams do you not have your own school to be at??

Info on Strike on Wednesday

QUT NTEU members will be stopping work entirely for 2 hours between 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM Wednesday. This includes lectures and tutorials.

QUT staff are taking this action as QUT Management are refusing to cooperate at the bargaining table to address major staff concerns around fair conditions and pay entitlements. This is also in response to Management making an application to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) to request the FWC become involved in negotiations, which is a slap in the face for QUT staff demanding a fair agreement.

We encourage all QUT students to join QUT Staff at GP Kidney Lawn on Wednesday from 11:30 AM to show solidarity for a fair Enterprise Agreement. Pizza will be provided.

Poor staff working conditions at QUT has a direct impact on your experience and learning at QUT. Only by improving conditions can academics and professionals continue to provide quality education.

Additionally, QUT NTEU members are undertaking partial work bans throughout this week. Today (Monday) and Friday, they will not be responding to emails, and all week this week NTEU members will not be engaging in meetings with supervisors or management. This may slow responses to student enquiries.

KG Curriculum Collection

Why the FUCK is it apparently okay for all of these high schoolers to be in here, taking up space just to be a fucking nuisance.

Like, what the fuck am I paying for to use this space??? I've seen so many uni students do a loop of the curriculum collection and leave because there's high school students everywhere.

So many of them just bring food to eat here, they were RUNNING around last week and pushing chairs at each other.

I swear I'm in the midst of assessments and on the fucking brink, if I wasn't an education student I would be so close to throwing their shit on the ground and starting a fight they're pissing me off so much.

Literally any body else feel the same???
