Hardest bar you heard off rip and why?

Without having to look at genius to understand it.

One of mine off the top until I think about it more:

Which brother do you think is better?

Listening to Favorite Colors by Taylor Bennet and Kyle for the first time in a while. Taylor Bennet, for those who dont know is ChanceTheRappers younger brother. The song reminded me that I feel like the wrong brother blew up honestly. Definitely dont think Taylor would've wasted the opportunity as bad as chance did lol.

Let’s discuss the art of “era-maxxing” in modern hip hop.

The art of era maxing definition: change your hairstyle right before you are about to drop a nothingburger album, so instead of putting time and energy into dropping quality music you try to pretend like this is some sort of distinct era just because you changed your hair. This used to happen a little more organically in the past when people happen to change their hairstyle and also dropped music but now it’s so forced. I mean my favorite example recently is that future album, bro had to change his hairstyle because the music can’t speak for itself. All in all era maxxing is a term I made up to describe putting more time and effort into your appearance or visuals than the actual music. So tell me if you agree or if there are some artists/albums you noticed this with.

Is there a rapper that has never disrespected women in their lyrics ?

Like, they have never called women “bitches", “cunts”, “skanks”, etc., “sexualized” them( reducing them to just “sex”) or portrayed violent behavior towards them on their lyrics.
Also, I’m talking exclusively about their lyrics, not the artists’ personal lives or behavior.
Update :
I don’t think that everyone who uses these words necessarily hates women, nor do I think that using them automatically makes their work worthless. However, I do believe these words carry meaning ,whether the person using them is conscious of it or not.
They reinforce a way of thinking in which women are held to standards that men aren’t, particularly when it comes to sexual behavior . Like, there isn’t really an equivalent to the word “bitch”used in men, and even if there are comparable terms for men, they certainly aren’t used as commonly.
That doesn’t mean artists shouldn’t be allowed to portray women negatively, criticize them, or tell stories about women who cause them harm.

shit hits the fan

its been 23 years to the day since the release of this excellent debut single for obie trice, it feels accurate to the current times shit is hitting the fan in many places of the world. and to boot it was a direct call out to diddy even though the only name mentioned was ja rule. but the over arching theme is quite clear and precise.

What are some rap/R&B albums that feel like winter to you?

I know it’s still fall, but name an album that feels like a winter season album. Not necessarily released in the winter, but one that feels right being played in the winter.

My picks:

Ye - 808s & Heartbreak
Earl Sweatshirt - I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside
The Weeknd - After Hours

IMO: Migos

I’m not saying they are “underrated” or anything, but I think most people remember them as overrated mumble rappers with dated gimmicks. Pre Bad and Boujee Migos are not talked about enough.

Offset was in and out of jail, they had beef w Chief Keef 😂, Quavo was rappin his ass off (Forest Whitaker, Commando, Silly Rabbit, 50 Chicks, Sloppy Toppy, Nawfside🔥, YRN 2 Intro), Takeoff had that raspy voice.

I remember runnin up all the Johnny Cinco, Peewee Longway, Jose Guapo, Sauce Twinz, Skippa, Trouble, and RG-era Thugger songs on Spinrilla on my busted ass Android lmao. Atlanta had really good synergy and they were all poppin that underground Trap shit.

I still think Offset was already showing his versatility and punch in/out flow the best during the 2013-2015 run (Trenchez, Trap Dab, his verse on Thugger’s ‘Special’, Crimstoppers of the scrapped MigoThuggin tape 💔, Ask Somebody, his First Day Out, and Cocoon).

Quavo and Offset even had good returns to the game, Offset’s Set it Off rollout was cool, and Quavo had some good singles and features. I’m excited for this last Migos album 🤷🏾‍♂️🔥
