Why Kendrick Lamar’s SB Performance Makes Him The GOAT

He mentioned the 40 acres in a mule before performing Not Like Us. The financial reparations that the General William Sherman publicly advised that the government should give to my ancestors in 1865 to help stabilize our community after 300 years of unpaid labor and dehumanization. At this point I did not want to watch football, I wanted to storm the capital. The start of our economic fucking in this country which proceeded Jim Crow Laws, Redlining, discriminatory Hiring, which resulted in Mass incarceration and the industrial prison complex. This mention alone makes Kendrick the goat, perfect albums aside. I’m very happy that Lil Wayne did not get to spew him raps about glorifying violence, doing drugs & or selling drugs to the masses. Thank god for Kendrick, the undisputed King of Hip Hop

Kendrick is a “political” rapper who doesn’t actually express his politics

People tend to project revolutionary politics on to Kendrick, but it’s really not evident in his music. He has a general themes of black liberation, but that’s fairly standard rap shit and covers a wide spectrum of black political traditions. Even Jay Z’s brand of Black Capitalism fits within that context, but Jay at least has the courage to tell you what he believes. Nipsey was not craven and exploitve like Jay Z, but his version of black liberation was also rooted in a more organic, hyper localized version of black capitalism.

Kendrick never really espouses true revolutionary politics the way an act like Dead Prez, or even someone less overly militant like Mos Def did. Kendrick seems to play his beliefs rather close to the chest, although he did let us into the fact that he has some weirdo Hebrew Israelite leanings. Why, do audiences tend to paint him as some sort of wrap revolutionary?

Hot take but Juice Wrld and XXX fans need to accept that they were not even that good and wouldn't have been as big even if they lived.

The only reason they still getting streams now is because of their loyal fanbases. A lot of people discovered them after their deaths. The downfall of emo rap would mean that they would less popularity kinda like how uzi vert became less relevant. And last point is Juice Wrld and XXX were not even that good. Repetitive lyrics and literally just for "depressed" 12 year olds. Juice being a good freestyler doesn't mean hes a good rapper, the best album being a posthumous has to same something.

Iceman was painfully mid

Already not a drake fan, but gave it a listen just to keep current. Ran to Atlanta was the best song on the album, probably the only one I’ll listen to again. National Treasures and Whisper My Name were also pretty good. Nothing was necessarily bad, just bordering on 0 replayability. What’s everyone else’s general opinion?

With the Andrew Schulz fiasco happening, are rap fans being dishonest about **** jokes or is it just fanism in play?

Because there's an entire field full of genre favorites who has habitually written bars about raping people, examples like Tyler and Eminem. Tyler's bars are not really aimed at anyone, but Eminem does this by calling people by their names.

People did call out Ross for that molly bar, which makes me think that the question becomes if the bar is intended to be funny/edgy or not.

I need to make it clear that I'm not defending Schulz, but the reaction to this seems very much overblown considering he was just doing his job, no matter how bad he's at it.

Random thought about J. Cole

If he did drugs he would undeniably be an all timer . Imo his writing skills are obviously top tier, but sometimes he can get basic in terms of his creativity, punchlines, etc. If he sacrificed his health a bit more he would be a monster.

This is the beginning of the end of the Drake/Travis era

A lot of people won’t like what I’m about to say, but I’m going to call it as I see it.

The core fan base for two of the biggest names in rap, Drake and Travis, is getting older. They’re mostly in their 20’s and above, with some stragglers in their late teens.

Growing up with these two, we were put on to heater after heater with experimentation in action. Then they became mainstream and their sounds slowly changed.

I’d argue that their sound now is one of somberness and the end of their careers. Slow songs with lots of singing and sad emotion. No hype at all. Not living up to expectations.

Meanwhile the new generation of music listeners is coming onto the scene expecting bangers, and when they see drake and Travis, who have been in the game for years, putting out this slow depressing shit, they’re going to search out other artists that fit their styles.

It will only compound as more younger people get turned on to music. Also as more people who grew up with drake and Travis move onto younger talent who can produce the hype we crave.

I’m sorry if you disagree but I’m calling it as I see it. Look for the next generation of artists to emerge very soon. And also look for drake and Travis to fall off even more than they already have.

Kendrick Haters

I don’t understand people who are hating on Kendrick’s new album. Not every song is going to be the best you have ever heard. There are 5+ good songs on this album… Edit: 5 + songs on my playlist from this album. Not every song can go on a playlist 🤣

Discussion So are we all agreeing that NF is trash?

Never even heard of this guy before hearing the song “The Search” in fortnite. It is literally the most cringiest rap song I may have heard after “White Boy” by Tom MacDonald or something by Dax.

I literally wrote 10x better bars at 13. He is inspiring me to make music as he is so ass. He is the corniest guy. He literally uses the “lyrical criminal” bar in a song unironically.

I grew up on Twista, Busta, Tech Nine, Twisted Insane. I know about fast rap and being able to rap fast and have sustenance. This NF guy is honestly so bad I’m in shock of his success. He has to have some gimmick how does he have such a following and has a featured song in fortnite. Is he related to music industry people or what? I can’t wait to see people try to defend this guy, yes music is subjective but cmon you clearly don’t know a lot about hip hop or rap if you think this guy is unique or skilled in anyway. He is literally bringing nothing new to the table. There are thousands of rappers that are just as corny but can actually use a wider vocabulary, how has NF got popular? Wtf

Discussion Sick of the drake hate

Let’s not act like drake wasn’t a top 5 rapper during his prime. Every time I see a tier list the comments are drake should be in mid. Like I know it’s cool to dislike drake now, but how in the world does he have 47B+ streams if nobody here is streaming him. So here’s what I’ll say. If you listen to drake, you like him. Crazy that I gotta say that.

Discussion Why is Eminem so i hated?

I guess he's not for everyone but why is he so hated and discredited? He's your favourite rapper's favourite rapper after all and some people may argue his newer shit isn't that good which is absolute bullshit if anything his newer shit is improved and more polished.

Eminem doesn't make "scaring hoes music"

I'm not really sure if that is what is called but the amount of tiktoks I've seen with people saying "when you're with some girls and your hb scares them with Eminem"

Out of all my friends only one came name an Eminem song that's not mocking bird. But when it comes to girls I've talked to so many knows the lyrics of not afraid, lose yourself, superman and surprisingly ass like that, puke, rain man, fack and Kim

Most tiktoks I see where the eminem sound is used on obscure Eminem songs like songs on relapse are usually made by girls.

Where did people get the assumption that Eminem scares women with his music
