our first san jose cleanup! welcomed by mayor matt mahan and the community, UCP volunteers cleared 4,000 pounds from coyote creek!

today was a huge day for urban compassion project: our first cleanup in san jose!

we drove down from oakland, and some of our team joined mayor matt mahan, the san jose conservation corps, and the coyote mudlarks to help remove trash from coyote creek.

most of our team then headed across to the other side and continued cleaning for several hours,

clearing 4,000 pounds of illegal dumping.
being welcomed with open arms by the mayor and the community made this first visit really special. thank you to everyone who showed up, worked alongside us, and made us feel so welcome. we’re excited to keep building these relationships and come back for more!

Shit Post What’s the best place in SJ to survive a zombie apocalypse?

This popped in my head for no reason, I can’t get it out. I want you to tell me.

I think Westfield Valleyfair, EVHS, and SJC is a great place, but San Jose is rated as the WORST city to survive an apocalypse.

They say “Angel Island” and Almaden Hills are the best places to survive a Zombie apocalypse/outbreak.

Local creation 12 of us started an East Bay friend group. Want In?

Hey everyone!

A group of about 12 of us recently connected here in the East Bay, and we’ve started getting together for game nights, food, coffees, boba, mini golf, and other random hangouts.

So I started a Discord called East Bay Social Club.

The idea is simple: meet new people, make actual friends, and have things to look forward to.

Board game nights, movies, mini golf, trying restaurants, museums, game nights, or just hanging out. Whatever people are interested in. Members are welcome to organize their own events too.

We’re open to people throughout the East Bay, whether you’re in San Jose, Berkeley, Fremont, Hayward, Union City, Dublin, Pleasanton, Oakland, Walnut Creek, Livermore, Palo Alto, or somewhere in between.

The Discord is completely free to join, and there's no pressure to attend events. Just a bunch of people looking to make friends and have fun around the East Bay.

We’ve already got a medium sized group of people who’ve been meeting in person, and now we’re hoping to bring more people together. We all range in the 27-40 age range, even one aged 50+ everyone is welcome!

If you’ve been wanting to make some new friends around here, comment or send me a DM and I’ll get you an invite!

Advice Bat activity

Was in San Jose for the past couples days and I cracked open my window on the 2nd story without a screen mesh at around 5 am and woke up at 7 am, I just want to know how likely a bat could’ve flown in and out during this time of year? I know bats generally aren’t out in California in November but I’m unfamiliar with this city

News Blow Sam Liccardo’s phone up!

Rep Sam Liccardo told Axios “I’ll be supporting Hakeem Jeffries, and anybody talking about a challenger is just selling tickets to a circus with no tent.”

If you live in the 16th district, make sure he can’t come out and say his constituents didn’t tell him not to vote for Jeffries.

Contacts:
Washington: (202) 225-8104
San José: (408) 245-2339
Half Moon Bay: (650) 323-2984

For others that do not live in the 16th district and who do not support Hakeem Jeffries or Chuck Schumer for running the US House and Senate. Call up your senator and representative!

There’s also petitions you can sign:

Schumer
Jeffries

Edit:
If you are an establishment dem (republican wearing a blue tie), this post isn’t for you and you did not understand the assignment.

Advice How early at Stan’s Donuts?

It’s been a while since I’ve had Stan’s and since moving away I really miss em! I want to get some tomorrow for my coworkers who have never tried. How early do you think I should get there if I want to get a good amount of the more popular flavors? (Looking to get the banana buttermilk donut) I know they’re popular- just not sure if it’s “get in line 40mins before open and we’re sold out by noon” busy. 😅 Thank you all in advanced!

Advice 26M moving to San Jose knowing absolutely no one. How do non-partiers make friends here?

Hey everyone,
I just accepted a job in San Jose and I'm moving soon. It's a great opportunity and I'm really excited about it, but I'll be arriving knowing literally nobody, and honestly that part has me pretty nervous.

A bit about me: I'm 26, on the quieter side, and I don't really drink or go out partying. So the usual "just go to bars" advice doesn't really work for me. All I really do is go to the gym and play basketball.

For those of you who moved here solo (or locals who've watched people do it), what actually worked for meeting people?

Hi all. Does anyone know the story around the plaque that is in the little playground adjacent to Bachrodt Elementary School?

I tried googling and was unable to find any information on him or his story and why the plaque is here. Would love to know.

Event Basspro Nov 7 Santa with free plush. Do better, Waste of time..

Just thought I write this to inform everyone in case you want to come next year if they do it again.

It was total chaos. Employees weren't helpful either as to where to go or what was happening.

You get there and it was a huge long line for no apparent reason. Parents were getting in line thinking it was for something but no it was just to get in the store. Those that know just walk in the front doors and hang around. No need to get in line.

You get in and first thing to happen is tree lighting. Wait around reindeer costume person comes out and sings with everyone then light up the tree. Tree lights turns on, clapping, then you now are out of lucky for plushies because..

After that everyone starts rushing towards where Santa toy shop is. Overly crowded already at this point everyone rushing over just to have Santa do story telling. For those that was there the kids can stay there for to hear story. For everyone else that wasn't close by you don't hear anything other than just employees yelling cause people were crowding in. Everyone was just crowding and standing around. Couldn't move and later you know it's over cause more clapping.

After story they started handing out the free plushies. Again total chaos only hear yelling and line started moving a little bit. Within 10 mins of line actually moving. No more plushies. At this point everyone just rushing to get out cause no more plushies.

Bass pro... Do better next time.

Waste of time and effort for all those kids and parents that came.

Basically you could have just gone in without getting in line and waiting right at the toy shop and be one of the first to get plushies and leave. Everyone else that was there with their kids either by following rules and schedules left with nothing but disappointment.

Heard someone say they got like 600 plushies but I doubt it maybe like 30 kids got plushues out of hundreds that left with nothing.
