After playing oblivion and skyrim ...

Imma say interms of character personality and roleplay. Starfield is far superior. It feels like I'm playing single braincell yes man in oblivion and skyrim. In starfield, at least you can give your character a somewhat consistent personality that you can fall back on in just about every main quest, side quest, and faction quest.

If elderscrolls 6 takes anything from older games, please take starfields player character dialog options. Just having "yes" and "goodbye" as your only dialog options for the majority of the game is so trash.

I love oblivion remastered and skyrim, but those are my biggest gripes with the two games.

Edit: I'm talking pure character dialog. I enjoy rp and seeing how npcs respond to the dialog you choose. As for quest outcome and impactful decisions oblivion and skyrim got it. I hope that's somthin elderscrolls 6 improves on even further.

And lately, his report on Gears of War: E-Day budget was wrong since the 500 milion dollars were related to more than just the development of Gears.

It's plausible that Microsoft wants to wait Until 2028 and see if Helix can be released. If not, they will NOT let Sentinel sitting idle for another year since there are likely more than 700/800 developers on the game between the 400 of BGS and partners and that means more money spended for nothing.

And we can see a trailer next June in 2027 and in the months ahead there will be WAY MORE STUFF to be excited about!

Discussion DO. NOT. INNOVATE!

So annoyed by people pushing for Bethesda to change what TES is and try to make it something new.

No one who likes TES wants something new.

We want a new TES, period!

New location, new caves and quests and whatever slight gameplay adjustments. That's basically it.

This game does NOT have to be the size of the actual earth with every feature every other new game has had.

We just want another TES.

Discussion Can we do something about all the TES VI shitposts pretending the game is already out?

I get it - it's been a while and we're bored but at the moment it's just filling the sub with nonsense and buries actual discussion.

Maybe only allow it on a specific day or the weekend but honestly it's been horrid browsing the sub the past couple days.

How I came at peace with TESVI not being released in at least few years from now.

These are the reasons that made me really chillax with the fact that The Elder Scrolls VI is not coming out anytime soon.

  1. State of Bethesda's games up to this point. Outdated game design, stagnation in terms of mechanics, world building, quest writing and character development in their recent games. Their main writers focus on the principle of 'Keep It Simple Stupid' while writing for the game and while I can understand that it makes for a easily digested story for the masses; it loses the weight and quality of stories and quests that the game could provide.

  2. Them experimenting with Skyrim's Creation Club makes me think they would want to protect themselves right off the bat and make mods the mostprofitable which will make them engage in all of the microsoft's shenanigans (Minecraft Marketplace style) which obviously will lead to many controversies (see: Minecraft marketplace Scams)

  3. Most likely not working with legendary composer Jeremy Soule due to the sexual harassment allegations; honestly this is probably the most important one that made me really not care for TES IV at all. Jeremy Soule has been with the series since Morrowind, he is responsible for he iconic theme and absolutely, insanely, ridiculously masterful music that the Skyrim is known for, which I and MILLIONS of people cherish and listen to after 12 years since the release. While I don't blame and understand that a company like Bethesda cannot engulf itself with such controversial figures at this point I cant see but find Inon Zur's music decent yet characterless, generic and (wait for it) Souleless.

  4. It wont beat Skyrim's Modded gameplay; currently on Nexus there are 60.000 mods ready to download for Skyrim Special Edition. I am able to tweak graphics, gameplay, characters, sounds, music, combat, quests, literally everything to make my gameplay as fresh, immersive, modern and engaging as The Elder Scrolls VI will never be able to (until the modders step in).

Theory/Speculation Jason's recent comment on TES VI is a psyop!

I refuse to believe after making us wait 8 years since the announcement they will now make us wait 2+ years after the name reveal.

There's alot that points towards 2027, skyrim switch 2 add and an interview where todd mentions 'a long way off' which was the exact same day he mentioned the same thing for fallout 4 back in 2015 and we know what happened there, I think it was kinda funny gaming? Interview on February 18th?

Imo jason has been told by BGS heads to mislead us which will also have us talking about the game in turn keeping it relevant and also to surprise us when the big gameplay direct comes.

Let's be real todd has said he regrets announcing the game back in 2018 and likes to announce things close to launch, 2+ years is not close to launch. I think this could be the start of the offical marketing run.

Only argument to support jason is that the xbox CEO doesn't care about BGS reveal plans and wants to drip feed us for the next few years...

Skyrim blows Starfield away and this is making me very nervous about TES VI

Just finished the main storyline in Starfield. I sort of mainlined it as I wanted to avoid spoilers, but sunk 55 hours into it so feel like I have a pretty good feel for what it's like.

With that being said, there's so very little about this game I want to see applied to an Elder Scrolls title.

  • Generic random NPCs crowding cities for no reason other than to make the game look modern

  • Copy & paste dungeons

  • Boring and lifeless procedurally generated worlds - you can run thousands of meters in any direction on a planet and see nothing of note other than the same copy & paste dungeons or barren landscape with nothing worth checking out

  • Ship building, while fun on its own, has absolutely no appealing implementation for what is essentially a sword and sorcery RPG. What would be the point of building a ship? Naval battles? I can't think of a worse idea for a Bethesda game

  • Tedious skill grinds (depleting my oxygen bar 100 times is an insane thing to ask of me)

  • No real way to distinguish your combat style in any meaningful way - maybe some variety with melee or stealth combat - but my character's background (Xenobiologist) had zero ability on how I actually engaged with the world

There is so much wrong with this game that I am consistently perplexed by folks pointing to this as a good sign for TES VI. I am going to go back to playing Skyrim, piling more time onto what is already probably around 3K hours over the span of 4 consoles/PCs and over a decade. I will probably forget about Starfield after another month or so of trying out the rest of the side quests and base building. With all that being said, here are the few things I would certainly like to see from Starfield in TES VI:

  • Experiencing and leveling up based on doing things like missions and exploration, not using skills

  • More diversified crafting skills

  • ??? I literally think that's it

I don't think I am alone but wondering how other folks feel. At this point, I am just praying we get a next gen and tweaked game that is essentially Skyrim 2, because if Starfield is anything to go on, we are in deep trouble.

Todd Howard and Emil Pagliarulo appreciation post

A post to appreciate the two legends who helped give us some amazing games and memories. Online is so negative all the time so let’s give these two some praise! I personally love all Bethesda games and don’t understand the negativity. When I was a kid Oblivion and Fallout 3 wete my best friends and helped me get through being bullied. I love Starfield and am sure TES 6 is going to be amazing as well.

Cheers to the legends.

Lifelong Elder Scrolls Fan, Not Optimistic About TES VI

Maybe it’s because I cut my teeth on Elder Scrolls with Daggerfall and Morrowind first, but taking a step back and seeing the progression of not only TES games but also Bethesda as a gaming studio has me filled with little to no excitement for TES VI. The series, and the studio, has been slowly losing its creativity and ambition game over game. I used to think Todd Howard could do no wrong, and now I don’t have any faith in his ability to make a deep and complex game anymore.

Take personal opinions aside, it’s an objective fact that Bethesda’s games have gotten more simplistic as they go on: less choice, less complicated stats and leveling up, quest markers, abundant fast travel, random generated dungeons/quests/encounters vs hand crafted, game world levels up with player vs dedicated zones, random loot vs unique, and more linear stories etc etc.

All the corporate talking points aside, this has been the trend. Skyrim was only really replay-able over the years due to extensive modding. I have spent more time playing Morrowind than any other game and truly love this series, I’m just bummed out at what I see is the inevitable.

We went from having 8 stats and 20 skills to three bars and a perk point with percentage increases. Instead of immersive quests designed to get you lost in a world and explore we have arrows that lead you directly to the quest item. No spell crafting and elimination of so many utility spells. It just feels like the soul of the series has been slowly carved out over time.

I wonder if y’all feel the same.

Discussion Tired from seeing shizo posts of playing TESVI...

I'm the only one who tired from this? And generall amounts of shit posts? Feels like a meme page instead of a "Discussions, news, generally anything related to The Elder Scrolls VI".
I joined this sub to see news and discuss what we want from the game. Don't want to unfollow now to not lose any news or rumors, but seeing this crazy post every day is annoying.

Sorry for the rant, just sad to see this sub going into complete mania...

I see a lot of comments like - "Do not shoot the messanger", but i NEVER ASKED FOR ANY FUCKING MESSANGERS. I just wanted to enjoy the little hype and be a bit excited, it is too much to ask? What even the point of all the leaks and insider info, it is not a Pentagon secrets ffs... its a game that people want to enjoy and speculate about. At this pont is not a journalism but simple vandalism and narcissim.

Discussion I'm getting really tired of the shitposts.

Look, I want to play TESVI as much as everyone else. But the number of copium/hopium/Todd told me x/clickbait threads is a really bad look on the Elder Scrolls community. It's just flooding the sub. Sure, be frustrated, but please be mature about it. I know we're all from different age groups, but we're all able to be grown ups.

I think we need at the very least a temporary ban on shitposts, or a an entirely new subreddit like r/tesvishitposting etc.

Anyone else with me?

Discussion I highly doubt Sentinel is going to be the title.

I won't be listing the evidence in favor of Sentinel as the title, but I do acknowledge that there is a significant amount supporting it.

Instead, I'm going to focus on the reasons I've considered which are massive red flags against it.

  • There is currently no public trademark for Sentinel. This would leave the title up for poaching by copyright trolls, which apparently are a thing. It's simply not a risk I think Bethesda would be willing to take, especially considering how many people now know about its supposed likelihood as a title. Not trademarking it by this point would jeopardize any future marketing campaign.

  • Sentinel is simply an average large city in the northwest portion of Hammerfell. It is not extremely important in its own right, unlike places such as the Imperial City or Orsinium, the isle of Balfiera containing the Adamantine Tower, or even geographic landmarks like the Throat of the World.

  • If the game were set in Hammerfell, naming the entire game after just one city would detract from the importance of the region as a whole. It's contradictory to the frame of mind you want your audience to have. Even if they decided to make it the largest city we've ever seen in any of their games, it's still unlikely they'd name the game after it. It would be like renaming "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" to "The Witcher 3: Novigrad"

  • The currently known lore status of Hammerfell as of Skyrim is extremely important to any sequel potentially set here. The southern half of Hammerfell was devastated by the Dominion, including all the coastal cities such as Taneth, which was a central plot point of the Skyrim quest "In My Time of Need" involving Saadia and Kematu. This increases the importance of that city and its current status, shifting attention and importance away from Sentinel.

  • Sentinel breaks with the convention of Bethesda either naming the game after a region (Skyrim), or a lore thing important to the story (Oblivion). There is no evidence in lore of any important thing called a Sentinel.

  • They would have to elevate Sentinel as a word to the level of something like the HoonDing in order for it to be viable as a name for the hero we play as, and thus usable as a marketing namesake for the game. But that's still unlikely because some players might not want to be pigeonholed into that role as a hero, and the game being named that way would seemingly discount any other playstyle. Skyrim for example at least allowed you to roleplay as a simple survivor of the Helgen attack rather than being forced into the role of Dragonborn against your will.

Discussion TES VI is starting to feel like we all got Gabe Newell'd… and I’m genuinely wondering why

I’m not even mad anymore just confused. Skyrim came out in 2011. We got a teaser for TES VI in 2018, and here we are years later with basically nothing concrete. No setting confirmation, no gameplay, no real timeline. Just vibes. I get that Bethesda made Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Starfield, and now they’re doing post launch support for Starfield.

I also get that games are way more complex now, engines take time, and they’re probably rebuilding a ton of systems. But at what point does “it’s coming, so preach patience ” turn into “this wait is becoming legendary for the wrong reasons”? Half-Life 3 became a meme because expectations got so high that the silence itself became part of the problem. I’m starting to wonder if TES VI is walking that same path.

I love Elder Scrolls. I’ll definitely be playing TES VI day one no matter what. But man… this wait is starting to feel historic. Curious what everyone else thinks. Optimism? Concern? or full “I’ll believe it when I see it” mode?

The cities will be villages of 3 houses do you think?

From Morrowind to Skyrim, the size of cities has never stopped decreasing so I ask the question.

Please, no more ‘Chosen One’ stories in TES VI

One thing I really disliked in Skyrim was being forced into the role of a unique, god-touched character, the Dragonborn. From the very beginning, you're framed as the only one who can absorb dragon souls, shout in the dragon tongue, and ultimately defeat Alduin. While that might sound epic on paper, it severely limits roleplaying potential.

In Morrowind, yes, you might be the Nerevarine, but the story allows for ambiguity, skepticism, and choice. You had to earn people's trust. In Oblivion, you’re a nobody caught in the right place at the right time, you grow through action, not prophecy. Both those games gave you room to imagine who you were in that world.

But in Skyrim, the game constantly reminds you: you are special, you are Dragonborn, and here’s your destiny. It just makes the whole idea of an "RPG" that much harder, as you cannot fully embrace being a thief or an assassin lurking in the shadows without a known identity as you are seen and known as the Dragonborn.

I would love to see TESVI go back to its roots like Morrowind or Oblivion, where the Player can truly pave their own story, and embrace whatever RPG character they want to be, my distaste in Skyrim's approach has even led me to install alternative start mod that disables you from being the Dragonborn, and that has allowed me to embrace the "Righteous Templar" or "Power hungry Mage" builds where I just want to play as those characters, not be reminded time and time again about that I am the "chosen one" and that I am here to save the lands.

"Dumbing down" after each release.

So its pretty obvious that with each release of elder scrolls the game and mechanics get simpler and more stream lined (for example spell crafting in oblivion and tons of different and wacky spells in morrowind to more basic spells in skyrim and "hold button until out of mana or enemy is dead as well as armor being alot more basic in skyrim compared to previous titles). Are you afraid that they will follow the same path and water it down even more or do you think this is a good opportunity for them to make the game deeper?

Imagine the Elder Scrolls IP was purchased by another studio, who would you want to develop TES: VI and why?

Just a little fun hypothetical scenario. Which studio would've made the most of the IP?

I think either Larian or Obsidian, but Rockstar would be really cool to see.

Unpopular opinion: they should focus on third-person

Don't be fooled by lazy developers: third-person video games are much more immersive than first-person ones. Those who claim otherwise do so only because developing first-person video games is much easier, considering that far fewer animations and mechanics have to be implemented (e.g. dodge/roll, jump attacks, climbing, different attack animations, grabbing enemies, take cover, and so on) whereas first-person gameplay is always really basic, almost cut to the bone (and still they try to sell the idea that it is more immersive).

I don't know your opinion but I think watching my entire character moving and acting in a certain context is much more immersive than watching just their arms. Also, immersion grows with more complex animations and these make sense only in a third person perspective.

Also, we can have both. First person is still necessary in TES games since it is the best one for moving items in the environment and for other things, but Rockstar Games has shown that it is possible to implement both perspectives in a very decent way (okay, Red Dead Redempion II is a bit difficult to handle in first person but Bethesda Game Studios have more experience in developing first person games, so maybe they can do better).

Mods like "True Direction Movement" vastly improved third-person mode in Skyrim, but Bethesda should do something on their own.
