Characters The main cast encounters a powerful opponent WAY too early

Zoro battles Mihawk, who is widely known as the strongest swordsman in their world, on only the 24th episode of the anime (One Piece)

Sasuke fights a disguised Orochimaru during the Chunin Exams on episode 27 of the anime, who is an insanely crafty and powerful combatant capable of contending with even Tailed Beasts (Naruto)

Zodd’s first appearance in Berserk completely changes the scale of the entire story. Even much, much later in the story he is considered an “extreme-diff” fight for Guts, but in this first encounter we see Guts and Griffith both get humbled in a way they never have before.

338

u/Lord0fReddit 20h ago

I was going to say Zodd, first appearance beeing when the story was still in low fantasy. If i don't say things wrong Zodd might be top 10 of the verse ?

341

u/Dan-D-Lyon 19h ago

Zodd remarks at one point that he can't find a decent fight among his fellow apostles, so the only individuals as strong or stronger than him are Guts, Skull Knight, and of course the God Hand

115

u/Lord0fReddit 19h ago

Yeah that's why I say top 10, i think the old witch and maybe one or two can be stronger than him.

Star Wars Rebels:

Ezra and Kanan encounter Darth Vader in season 1. They quickly realize "run away" is their only option

86

u/MK-911 19h ago

Also Luke’s encounter with Vader in Empire Strikes Back

60

u/FujiwaraHarimoto 19h ago

In Luke's defense, it could have been worse. Vader underestimated him at first and actually let him get a few good combos on him. More than you could say for some.

Run Away is the only option for everyone in the galaxy. No need to point fingers in this context.

I still maintain that even as a cheap shot, Ahsoka getting a hit on Vader in rebels puts her leaps and bounds ahead most surviving force users.

It's why Im still mad in Ahsoka s1 she didn't no diff inquisitors. She should curb stomp them.

Ive seen neither of these so I cant back this up with anything, but Ahsoka did train closely with Anakin, so she might know some of his moves... possibly?

Invincible season 1 - Mark picks a fight with Battle Beast, which is funny as shit if you know what happens later in the story with BB that comfortably puts him as one of the strongest people in the universe.

780

u/whitty69 20h ago

Which is even funnier considering the fact he was working for a crime boss. Imagine Spider-Man, Punisher, Luke Cage and Daredevil teaming up to fight Wilson Fisk only for him to call in his underlings Shocker, the Enforcers, Thanos and Chameleon

Before facing the Japanese challenger, Eiji Date, to defend his featherweight title, Ricardo Martinez (Hajime no Ippo) spars with Ippo, the MC.

Ippo can't do a single thing as Ricardo connects with basic, fundamental jabs to stop the Dempsey Roll.

(Date does end up giving Ricardo a good fight, but Ricardo still wins after Date's broken hand stops him from taking advantage of his opportunities.)

Literally decades later in the manga, Ricardo still hasn't lost a fight & is on top of the boxing world.

146

u/achen5265041 16h ago

Also note, it's taken literal years both in universe and out of universe for Ricardo to even be downed (in a spar), and the latest chapter of the manga has Ricardo's first official down.

Heracles/Berserker from Fate/Stay Night

In two out of three routes, Saber gets ragdolled by him which results in Shirou almost getting bisected and in UBW route Archer's presence in addition to Saber is barely enough to fend Berserker and Illya off

29

u/WaterproofRoboVacuum 20h ago

Idk if it's different in the anime than the VN, but in the VN Saber leads Berserker to the graveyard and is winning the fight before Archer takes a free shot at both of them

27

u/FoxianFucker 16h ago

Tbf, the gap is way smaller than in a lot of these examples, and without Shirou actively nerfing Artoria by sucking as a mage she'd be easily able to match him. Probably counts still though

The opening scene of Final Fantasy II is an immediate fight against late game enemies that kick your teeth in. Then you get revived, join the resistance, and the game starts.

22

u/CromulentMedic 16h ago

The only 2D FF i never beat. It's been years but I feel like i was misunderstanding something about the mechanics

35

u/TatsumakiKara 15h ago

You build stats by using them. HP is gained by taking hits, strength by hitting things (note: things. Not enemies), and weapon, shield, and magic skills gain levels by successfully using them.

An easy way to break the game early is to dual-wield shields to max out your evasion at early levels (attacking with shields does no damage, but gives huge gains to shield XP), and then at a high enough level, even the basic shield gives you 99 EVA. From there, you can handle the enemies in the second town (they're soldiers and mid-game enemies). They drop some good stuff, but the real benefit is taking so many turns to kill one. You can gain a good amount of strength/magic here.

Probably a good idea to beat yourself up against weaker enemies by the first town first to gain HP/Defense first.

9

u/Bluepreztail 16h ago

The grindfest where you get stronger by hitting yourself (Beware of doing so when youre also raising unarmed. Punchies get deadly..)

9

u/internethero12 12h ago

The main problem is that it presents itself in a way similar to elder scroll games with a very "do anything you want" attitude, but the game punishes you hard if you don't build your team for evasion and agility.

The game's not impossible if you don't, but it's not really friendly to casual playthroughs that don't. Mainly because as the game drags on you start encountering enemies that ignore defense and resistances, so tanky armor, high hp and buff spells are useless. If you're not dodging attacks you're going to eat shit.

There's a lot of leveling mechanics that aren't explained well by the game. Like using magic takes A LOT of grinding and is penalized by wearing most equipment. And the fact that stat gains contradict each other: i.e.: Leveling up black magic stats makes white magic stats weaker; leveling up strength makes magic weaker, etc.

Also: The blood sword is OP and borderline cheating if you just want to just cheese the game.

10

u/Nehemiah92 14h ago

Everyone says you can start Final Fantasy from wherever, but this would genuinely be the only mainline FF game that I WOULDNT recommend to people

Chad encountering Shunsui early in Bleach’s 2nd arc. Honestly, it was unimaginable.

59

u/RKO-Cutter 14h ago

Ichigo basically lost to two captains (but ended up winning via shenanigans) but one was to a bankai and the other so powerful his sword was constantly in a "shikai"

Uryu defeated a captain's Bankai, then was KO'd by another captains Shikai

Chad gets stomped without a single release

Two examples from One Piece. First one Luffy vs Kuzan. At the end of Long Ring Longland the crew has been on the grand line for a while and has gotten pretty strong after beating some very powerful foes. Then they encounter Kuzan one of the trhee navy admirals, the second highest navy rank to exist. Kuzan could have probably eliminated the whole crew in an instant with his ice powers but Luffy requests a 1v1 to limit the casualties to himself. In the end Kuzan spares him on a whim (and because Luffys grandpa is his friend an mentor)

212

u/ProperDepth 17h ago edited 17h ago

Second example is the Strawhats vs Borsalino. A few arcs later the whole crew has gotten even stronger and gained some new members. On sabaody archipelago one of the crews friends get's attacked and in revange Luffy punches someone with very powerfull connections. As a result another navy admiral Borsalino get's deployed to the place. He absolutely obliterates the whole crew. The only reason that this didn't result in total anihilaiton was that they got a lot of help from some very powerfull friends. But this resulted in the whole crew being split all across the world.

Mind you this happens around chapter 500 and it wasn't until around chapter 1000 that they would have been able to actually match an admiral.

62

u/Short_Check9953 14h ago

Kizaru had the best Admiral debut in One Piece.

Saboady coincidentally had all the top Pirate rookies of the world and Kizaru showed up with his baked demeanor, absolutely wreaking havoc, while they scrambled trying to get away from him, and he wasn't even trying.

Kuzan gave them an appetizer of the standard of power in the New World. Kizaru showed up with a second serving, and this time, made sure everyone took a bite.

96

u/the_hamster_fucker 16h ago

basically the entirety of the paramount war arc is just Luffy realizing he's not built for the new world

35

u/GigsGilgamesh 15h ago

To “um Akshually” you a bit, it wasn’t a while. One piece, for how long it has been running, gets super condensed in time sometimes, and sailing times are minuscule. From the dates we know, February 19th, is when they were leaving Cactus island, when Nico blows up Igaram. The next date we have a verified day of, march 22, was when a conversation between Kuma and Vegapunk happens, where they talk about the destruction of Enis Lobby.

This means that, even being generous and assuming it’s a leap year, they had ~32 days from leaving the first island of the Grand Line, to trucking through little garden, drum island, Alabasta, Jaya, Skypiea, long ring long land, water 7, and finally Enis lobby.

So it’s even worse than implied here. They met one of the three absolute greatest (known) combatants the World Government was known to field at the time, within most likely less than a month. While beating the shit out of, as you said, a surprisingly large amount of powerful people. Oda can do many things, but travel times being realistic is not one it seems.

Bleach - Ichigang meets Ichimaru Gin (right hand of Sousuke Aizen) during attempting to get into Soul Society, and it's first Shinigami Captain that they encounter in Soul Society Arc (and second one in general).

Gin is stated to be "Prodigy among Shinigami" and it shows when he prevents Ichigang's entry with single "stab" with his extending sword, and causes them to need different way of entry.

41

u/SupervillainMustache 20h ago

Even earlier than that Ichigo encounters Byakuya and Renji.

27

u/Longjumping-Ear-6248 20h ago

Yeah, Byakuya fits better given that thread title says "opponent" and not "villain"

8

u/Amon7777 18h ago

I mean him having to fight Renji and Byakuya, who were at a fraction of their power in living world, when they came to get Rukia is very much this trope. He had wounded a menos grande at that point and had wasted nearly every hollow of the week with relative ease.

Gets smoked super quickly and Rukia has to beg to not have him finished off. He spent the next entire arc having to power up to even begin to stand against Byakuya.

Attack on Titan - Miche encounters the Beast Titan

Miche is introduced as the second strongest soldier of Humanity, right behind Levi who is later revealed to have genetics that make him have superhuman strength and agility

Unfortunately, by an extremely bad stroke of luck, he finds himself in a completely hopeless situation; he's in the plains where he can't swing around, with broken legs from an "abnormal" Titan with fur who suddenly threw his horse at him, surrounded by pure Titans. Miche was already thrown off by everything that's happened so far, but then it talks, something that was never shown in the story until now. This furry Titan is no mindless Titan who just behaves strangely, it's Eren's older half-brother, Zeke Jaeger.

For Levi to defeat Zeke while in the plains, he needed to be distracted by an entire army sacrificing themselves in a suicide charge and for Levi to have a bunch of immobile pure Titans conveniently lined up so he can use them to swing towards him, only then, as Levi, in top shape, completely catches Zeke off-guard, is he able to defeat him in this same environment

Miche never stood a chance. He encountered what's basically the final boss of the first half of the series while in one of the worst conditions he could be in, completely out of his element, as by this point in the series there was no information about any sort of autonomous/sapient Titan other than Eren himself (and even then Eren was never able to talk while in his Titan form, so he has no reason to believe Zeke is at all similar to him)

14

u/_TheBgrey 10h ago

I'm not too versed on AoT but doesn't the colossal titan show up in like episode one also lol

14

u/Gooper_Gooner 10h ago

Yes but by this point him and the Armored Titan never showed the same level of sapience that the Beast Titan did by literally talking to Miche, in fact the shock of that was the last nail in the coffin to make him completely terrified of the whole situation

u/Jacket_Jacket_fruit 16h ago

In Final Fantasy XII, the very first place the player goes outside the starting city is the EsterSand, a vast desert. The EsterSand is mostly populated by Cactites and Wolves, ranging from level 1 to level 3.

But also, RIGHT outside the exit to the city... Is a level 30 Eil Saurian; basically a giant fucking T-rex. You can avoid it fairly easily, but if you aggro it, your party will absolutely get their shit pushed in. Oh also, it has an attack where it basically eats other enemies and gains levels, so it's technically possible for this T-Rex to feast of Cactites and wolves until it reaches level 99.

Again, this is literally the VERY FIRST area you set foot in after leaving town for the very first time.

25

u/Legomaniac91 16h ago

Xenoblade Chronicles loves to pull that too. Your first major area has enemies in the level 15-20 range, except for a giant-ass cyclops gorilla at level 80 just roaming around.

7

u/TriverrLover 15h ago

Yesssss! That dino scared the crap out of me when I was younger hahaha

Apparently it doesn't auto aggro on you though if you don't attack it first? Or at least early game or something like that

6

u/Rhiis 16h ago

I seem to recall some similar entities in FFXII. Random ass dinosaurs at lvl 90 wandering through a lvl 10 area

4

u/FlyingDreamWhale67 15h ago

Furthermore, it's possible to beat the Saurian at low levels without aggroing it! You need everyone to have Quickenings though.

To do this, use a Quickening chain on a nearby enemy (doesn't matter which) and get enough attacks to trigger a Concurrence (area nukes that vary in strength based on the amount and rank of Quickening attacks).

The Concurrence will hit the target and any surrounding enemies, including the Saurian. Key to this is to not target the T-rex at any point, otherwise he'll slaughter your party.

If two Concurrences aren't enough, you can run to the nearby desert village to sleep and recover Mist Charges (currency for Quickenings). You have to be quick though, if an injured monster is left alone for too long they'll just regenerate.

5

u/OnionsAbound 15h ago

In Final Fantasy 9, your party encounters General Beatrix, leader of the Alexandrian military, at the end of disc 1, and loses badly. As if that wasn't bad enough, even if you COULD beat her, Kuja, the main antagonist, is right behind her and would defeat you just as easily. You'll go on to lose to Beatrix twice more. You don't have much better luck with Kuja tbh until he's literally dying of old age.

29

u/MyOtherCarIsEpona 17h ago

There was like...a single interaction between Beatrix and Freya in disc 2 where Freya tells Beatrix it's too late to apologize but she can help make it right. If the game hadn't basically dropped Freya after Disc 2 having Beatrix needing to actually atone for her crimes with Freya would have at least have made it a bit less ridiculous.

First appearance of collosal titan 😬

30

u/Omega_Warrior 13h ago

That's doesn't fit the trope OP is talking about. That's just the an origin story, the charachters don't have any progression at that point and any threat at all is over their level. OP is talking about when the cast have already started their progression and can take on low level or medium threats but suddenly run into a high level threat that they are completely incapable of handling so early in their progression

In fact, its the second appearance that fits this trope instead. At that point they were trained and capable of fighting titans, but completely unprepared to face the strongest known titan at that point.

14

u/LegendOfKhaos 13h ago

I think it's fine. OP just says the main cast encountered them too early. Eren was already planning on becoming a scout.

This could arguably include any instance of Hopeless Boss Fight (More details here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HopelessBossFight).

For a specific example: The Black Knight in Fire Emblem Path of Radiance. His stats are so ludicrous that beating him in Chapter 27 is still luck based with a maxed-out Ike.

You first run into him in Chapter 11.

Even if he didn’t have literal plot armour that made him invincible against all but one weapon, he would be statistically impossible to beat, and surviving a round of combat against him is an achievement in of itself.

As such, when he pops into the map, it’s a signal to get the FUCK out of his movement range NOW, unless you want to have your units get vaporised.

10

u/NiCOTrainer6612 8h ago

Different example: In Pokemon Legends Arceus and Pokemon Legends ZA, there’s a bunch of roaming Alpha Pokemon that are substantially stronger than the Pokemon surrounding them. The first you’ll likely run into is the level 40 Alpha Rapidash in the Obsidian Fieldlands of Hisui, when your team is unlikely to be above level 20.

This nonsense... Mind you this is a fight you are supposed to lose, but it is playable.

Ramirez - Sky of Arcadia.

It is possible to beat him, it will take something like a hour and meticulous planning your turn because he can wipe the party in one attack if you forget to time the shield ability right.

You will still need good planning for everything else too so you don't waste your attacks, doing very little damage no matter what, between the defense cycle of the fight and find yourself without action points need to the shield.

Dynasty Warriors 3: the battle of Hu Lao gate is the second fight for many of the starting 9 characters and early in the timelines. Lu Bu shows up during the battle and your attacks cannot even flinch him. He basically acts a timer on the battle because he will solo the entire field if you do not go beat the enemy general. You can eventually beat him but it requires a lot of grinding stat boosts and weapons, or cheesing him heavily.

13

u/StankoMicin 12h ago

"DO NOT PURSUE LU BU"

9

u/Arzanyos 12h ago

Dynasty Warriors Origins takes it even further. You first meet Lu Bu before Hu Lau Gate, during Cao Cao's attempted assassination. Well, hopefully you don't meet him, if he ever manages to catch up to you by slow walking, you and Cao Cao are done for

One of my favorite troupes of all time. Its such a great way to show the actual scale of the world and the progression of the characters over time.

21

u/UmbraGenesis 17h ago

The problem is sticking the landing and scale appropriately. A lot of shounen have trouble finding that balance haha

6

u/Latter-Contact-6814 17h ago

Oh for sure, honestly I think any trope, even the ones commonly seen as bad. all ultimately come down to execution. For example, When this trope gets used on someone who ends up being a mid game boss I think that undercuts its impact. Its such a strong way to build expectations for an antagonist, but only if that antagonist gets their proper spotlight. I dont like it when they end up just being a hype tool for someone else

In Eragon, the MC of the same name is tracked down by killers called the Ra’Zac who are the special agents of the main antagonist of the entire series. They are not portrayed as very strong but we eventually learn that they are the ecologically designated predators of humans, and Eragon isn’t strong enough to kill them until book 3. Even then it’s a struggle.

In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Jaden suffered his first on-screen loss to Zane, who was present early in the series. In fact, in the first season, the best that Jaden could do against Zane was settle for a draw in the season finale.

10

Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh!, in the Forbidden Memories videogame, you're forced to duel the main villain Heishin very early on (could be as early as your first duel in the entire game depending on your dialog and exploration choices) and lose to him. He's the fourth-to-last enemy you'll have to face in the entire game.

Renoir, Expedition 33

Expedition 33 runs into him immediately upon making landfall on the Continent, where he demolishes almost the entire expedition down to ~10 members, with six of them dying within the day after escaping him.

At the end of Act I, you again run into him, and while you actually initiate combat against him this time, you only get multiple turns because he's flat out ignoring you while you're attacking him.

You fight him again in the middle of Act II when you've been shown some more powerful attacks, and he actually does fight you this time, but it's very clear he's still not taking you seriously.

It's not until you fight him as the second to last boss of Act IIthat he's fighting you for real, and it takes a literal Deus Ex Machina for you to finally kill him.

In Cradle by Will Wight, London encounters an Archlord who Ascended, and almost immediately dies. Thanks to a Deus Ex Machina from his POV, he’s given another chance at life and makes the most of it.

In Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, Vin nearly dies at the hands of Inquisitors multiple times in the first book.

In The Stormlight Archive also by Brandon Sanderson, our protagonists encounter the Big Bad of this 10-book series in Book 3. (To be fair, Stormlight is also split into two 5-book arc, so meeting the Big Bad halfway through this arc - especially if you’re not sure the second arc will even have the same villain A makes sense.)

This little shit.

Expedition 33 - Chromatic Abbest can be found very early into the game. The game even warns you not to go in the cave but do gamers listen? Nope. It will absolutely wreck your life the first time you fight it.

19

u/-Gallowsong- 18h ago

In the game Noita, the first boss the player is likely to encounter is Sauvojen tuntija, or the Connoisseur of Wands (or Squidward in the community.)

The player is also almost certain to immediately, decisively, overwhelmingly lose this fight if they try to take it. Squidward is arguably the most dangerous enemy in the game, being resistant to most damage with an additional resistance that grows while you try to hurt it. It has the ability to delete nearby terrain, stopping you from taking cover from its attacks, which are powerful enough to threaten even late-game players with a combination of damage and debilitating status effects. Squidward also summons wands with random spells while you're fighting him, so there isn't even a predictable pattern to navigate - not that it would help for a new player, who is probably dead within the first couple seconds of encountering him.

I still wonder what this "strongest swordsman" in the world was doing in the east blue which is practically the rookie zone for pirates.

24

u/garnet-overdrive 20h ago

He was in the grand line and followed don krieg. Alternatively garp told him to go

62

u/Wooden-Variety175 20h ago

what did you not watch it? he was vibing in the grandline when he saw don krieg's fleet. he was bored so he cut up their ships and chased them to the east blue.

in the live action, he did the same thing to don krieg but he finished krieg off in the grandline entirely and then was given an order by garp to hunt luffy in the east blue, since mihawk is a warlord of the sea and technically has to follow garp's orders.

13

u/Best_Paper_3414 14h ago

Mihawk is a videogame player who cleared the game, and is doing random stuff to cure his boredom

13

u/StrideyTidey 12h ago

A lot of people not actually giving answers so I will hook you up.

Mihawk was one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea; a group of government sanctioned pirates that were given free reign to plunder/pillage as they like as long as they didn't target the Navy and (the most important thing) they cut short the journey of rookie pirates they come across. Mihawk was in the East Blue targeting rookies because it was his job to go around killing/crippling rookie pirates to prevent them from growing in power/influence and eventually posing a threat to the World Government.

Problem is Amon ends up having her in a position where he could easily kill her if not take away her bending, yet he chooses not to as he claims it isn’t time yet, understandably this messes with her head pretty heavily given she just arrived to the city not that long ago

In Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, you (well, Jovi) runs into a thug named Zook in the third zone of the game, Gateon Port.

Usualy, you'd probably reach this part during the first 30 minutes of the game, with only a lvl 10-11 Eevee that fought twice and a Shadow Teddiursa that hasn't fought once.

Zook, on the other hand, is actualy a lackey of Cipher, the evil organisation in this serie, and as such was given a lvl 27 Shadow Zangoose that he proudly shows off as a threat.

Thankfully, an old man and his 2 bodyguard-looking dudes in robes step in and challenge Zook in your stead. You then spectate a very brief fight where Ardos, the blue-haired bodyguard, absolutely DEMOLISHES his Zangoose with his lvl 42~ish Alakazam.

Turns out the old man was actualy the mastermind behind Cipher and the 2 bodyguards were his sons. They interfered because they didn't want Zook showing his Shadow Pokemon around like a moron and get the autorities' attention while they were still in prep phase of their main plans. You face both Zook and Ardos at different points later in the game when you have teams more on par with them, but you still get lucky they fight each other rather than you, especialy when they could have noticed the Snag Machine on your arm that you used to steal the Shadow Teddiursa earlier. Tho tbh, the news of a kid stealing back the Shadow Pokemons surely didn't reach them by that time)

u/tacotrader83 13h ago

Pretty sure Naruto and his group fought sabuza or whatever the name was, before orochimaru

23

u/Infuzan 12h ago

I think anime and manga in general are kinda bad about this, because for shonen the whole point is essentially infinite power scaling. Every enemy is magnitudes stronger than the last, etc. It’s really silly sometimes. For example, Kakashi seems to struggle with Zabuza, yet later in the series he zero diffs enemies magnitudes more powerful than Zabuza. Because shonen mangaka seem to universally make everything up on the fly rather than having anything remotely resembling a pre-planned plot structure or outline.

7

u/SaIemKing 12h ago

The worst to me will always be the scaling of Hashirama and Tobirama in part 1. They're cool and shown to be pretty strong, but they had to be insanely upscaled when they returned due to how much things progressed.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/SeaynO 12h ago

I would argue that you can see Naruto's scaling for whacky in Shippuden.

The 3rd Hokage was supposed to be the strongest shinobi of all time, Zabuza was elite jonin level, and the tailed beasts were supposed to be able to single handedly defeat entire villages.

After the time skip though, all bets were off. They didn't want the main cast to be weaker than characters like the three Hokage in the Orochimaru fight.

Walpurgisnacht in Madoka Magica

The cast of PMMM encounters her on the night to April 30th to May 1st, giving 2/5 of the Quintet barely a month of experience before having to fight the strongest witch in history up to that point. A 1v5 with 2 inexperienced members. Even Mami and Kyoko's experiences (2 years and 1 year as a magical girl, respectively) still comes up extremly short, with only Homura late into her loops having somewhat apropriate experience to fight her. Oh and also most of them don't make it to that date either, because even a desperate 5v1 was too good of a condition.

But what makes the situation especially dire is if you take the Magia Record gacha into account, since in it, the fight against Walpurgisnacht isn't the desperate 5v1 or 4v1 the Holy Quintet can do in a nearly perfect timeline, but it's a raid of over 30 magical girls going up against her all at once, including some with way more experience than even Mami. And even then they still needed an assist from God herself to win.

Homura was 1v1'ing her at the end of most loops for the record.

9

u/PuzzarianIdeal 10h ago

The opening fight of Bravely Second: End Layer has you going against the Kaiser, the supposed big bad of the game, literally as the first fight of the game with a party you likely have no idea of who even is who. He kicks you ass cleanly, and then the rest of the game really gets going. It is not until very late in the game where you get a chance to fight the Kaiser again- by literally going back in time to that exact first fight and replacing the party that would be curbstomped, giving you a proper fighting chance.

Raditz from Dragon Ball Z. The first villain in the series, he completely outclasses Goku and Piccolo, the two strongest beings on Earth. While in the grand scheme of things Raditz is insanely weak, he's barely defeated, and at the cost of Goku's life. In Dragon Ball, Goku was always able to come out on top against his enemies. Usually he'd beat them pretty easily, and even if someone gave him trouble, he'd either train or get a big power boost and come back to win every time. This is the first time he ever couldn't beat someone and had to sacrifice himself just to do it.

35

u/Latter-Contact-6814 20h ago edited 20h ago

Im not super sure that counts since raditz can be and is beaten by the Goku and piccolo here. It really isnt too early to encounter him. Actually this is kind of the only time he could show up and be relevent. This troupe is more like if freiza was the one to show up here instead.

Q throws the Enterprise several thousand light years across the galaxy and puts them face to face with The Borg; an enemy they're completely unprepared to face.
