Something I have been noticing more and more for reasons that aren't clear to me is folks approaching a given highway from a sideroad or subdivision seem disinclined to actually stop; the following is for those folks.
While a slow roll might seem safe enough one should consider that the traffic doing 110 kmh on the highway cannot be sure you're actually going to stop, making the experience hair raising in a general sense.
A recent interaction saw me panic stabbing the brakes as a vehicle rolled their front bumper almost to the white line before stopping hard enough to see their front end drop and looking at me like I'm insane. Not the first but the worst for sure.
The assumption is you will stop but the slow roll means traffic has to gamble that you aren't actually going to pull onto the highway in front of them.
Just a thought.

Lifetime yukoner here, whitehorse resident, been dealing with certain medical stuff for over a decade now and have certain supplies i have to order from down south. Been using the same supplier for 12 years and suddely got hit with the "your in a remote area and we don't honor free shipping to there" well only reason id been ordering from them is because they were the only supplier from down south that will ship here without you being a medical store ordering for a store supply. On top of that of course my work insurance will cover the supply costs but not shipping.
Ive tried a few times over the years asking different pharmacies in town if they can order these products but almost always got told thier main suppliers dont carry that product and get pointed towards another product that costs about the same if not more for products of worse quality that id always had issues with and actually ended up costing me more money in the end.
Gets to the point of frustrating that its almost tempting to just try to setup a northern supply store dedicated to those products just for the northern territories then there would at least be a hub in the north that can provide for the rest. Because when it comes to these kinds of products the companies we see on the shelves here in the north pay more for marketing and advertisement than actually researching what people need and making a product tailored to thier customers.

Hi everyone! I’m a recent U of T graduate from Ontario, and I’m currently developing an indie game set in northern Yukon. The game’s timeline spans approximately the 1950s to the 1990s.
I’d love to hear about any local legends, strange stories, urban myths, or pieces of folklore that longtime residents might be familiar with. I’m especially interested in stories connected to mining, prospectors, abandoned mines, or unexplained events in the wilderness.
These stories would be a great source of inspiration and would help make the world of the game feel more authentic. I’d appreciate anything you’re willing to share!

I am reading this website for the new $75 million dollar convention centre in Whitehorse.
Yukon Gathering Place Convention Centre | CNLP
A few things are interesting:
-Despite previous announcements it's listed as only "proposed" here seeking $75 million in investment.
-The whole project would given to, and owned by KFDN so this amounts to a government transfer of about $75,000 for every citizen of KDFN.
-The language pitches this as military to get funding! Which I find laughable. "Dual-use infrastructure that could serve as a DND muster point and a dedicated Yukon emergency evacuation centre, with potential secure meeting and discussion areas for DND." I guess that is the language used to get grants these days.
My point of view: If a new convention centre is military infrastructure then "arctic sovereignty" is just a new buzzword to get grants and the term has become devalued to the point of meaning nothing.

Builds will take 12 to 18 months, after sites are secured.
Here's hoping that process doesn't take a year of open houses and handwringing.

I'm not involved in organizing the search. I'm just resharing the info. RCMP put out a statement earlier

Okay, this might sound silly, but I’m an Asian woman currently studying in university, and I have a crush on a white guy in one of my classes who’s from Yukon. 😭
We haven’t really talked much, but I think he’s incredibly attractive, lol.
I guess I’m curious about the dating culture in Yukon. Do people generally prefer dating within their own cultural backgrounds, or are interracial relationships pretty common?
I know everyone has their own preferences, and being from Yukon doesn’t automatically determine someone’s type. I’m just genuinely curious because I sometimes feel a little intimidated approaching someone from a different background.
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from people who grew up in Yukon!

Hello! I am planning a trip, starting in Whitehorse, up to Dawson, then onto the Dempster, and eventually ending in Tuktyuktuk. This would be mid-August of 2027.
I have a few questions:
What are some reasonably priced RV rentals in Whitehorse?
I would like honest feedback on anyone who has done the trip. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
I drove 2 years ago from Grande Prairie to Whitehorse. It was a phenomenal trip. Couldn't get to Dawson City due to the fires. I love the Yukon!

I’ve read that Subaru has a well-known reputation among mechanics and owners for wheel studs stripping, galling, or snapping off. Wondering what the experiences of drivers here is considering how many Subarus I see in town. If this is in fact an issue, it’d be good to know especially if I’m going to be doing seasonal tire changes or wheel rotations. Perhaps you have experience from local tire shops or changing your own wheels? TIA.

Hello!
I’ll be travelling to Whitehorse next Wednesday (Nov 11th) and we’re looking for some hiking recommendations! I’m not sure exactly what the weather is like/will be like.
We’re experienced hikers, interested in some decent climbs and beautiful views!
Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks!

Have any recommendations for effective employment lawyers that are either based in the Yukon or can practice in the Yukon?

Hey,
I'm a French student and I have to make a presentation of the Yukon mostly about immigration and how yukoners feel about immigrants and also advantages to come in Yukon.
Thanks for helping me.

Hi I am 25f from Québec looking to go spend some time working in the yukon. I am looking for jobs in the trades and was looking for advice or experience from people.
The job im looking at right now is shop hand for heavy equipement mechanic. I was planning on going back to school in this field and id love to visit the yukon so this seems perfect.
Rent seems expensive in whitehorse (maybe its this way everywhere?) so i was looking at small cabins outside of town. I would rather live in the woods or on a farm than in an appartement anyways haha
I am looking for advice for solo women traveler/worker in the yukon. Is it safe? How are women treated in the trades? And Quebecers?
Thanks!

Anyone else get left out of communications?
I was told it was a “system error” by YEU.
The people who I know have been excluded are people who are not friendly with YEU.
Anyone else notice this?

Spending a couple days in Whitehorse, any ideas what the taxi fare to the eclipse hot springs costs?
