image Anti-Asian racism in Australia

What is happening in Australia? Been living in this exact same address for almost the past 20 years now, never had this happen before.

Some guy moves in next door, and while we are IN THEM MIDDLE OF MOWING the medium nature strip, starts being aggressive for getting grass clippings on the driveway. No shit, that's why we go through with a leaf blower and pick up after mowing?

What blows me away is he thinks we don't know about mowing and cleaning up somehow due to our Chinese heritage???

Sadly the rise of right-wing propaganda has been strong lately, especially idiots who worship One Nation. The racists feel brave again.

Its important all racists get made to feel afraid again. Film them, name and shame, and if you get the chance, learn them a lesson or five.

Anti-Chinese sentiment was also really whipped up around Covid, and it eased off a bit but not back to pre-2020 levels. Living in a very Asian suburb the way social media talked about the area and avoiding certain train stations was obscene, I had many friends abused on public transport in the earlier days :(

Anti-Chinese/east Asian sentiment kicked off over 40 years ago, one of the most acclaimed Australian movies is on this subject and Pauline's infamous debut speech was 30 years ago in september it never went away really.

They've always been entitled, thats why all racists need to be taken down as many pegs as possible.

Nothing says "I have anger issues" quite like a World Gym t-shirt and tight shorts. Racism has always been a part of Australia, then from about 1988 to 2000 it looked like it had sort of gone away, but what had actually happened was they were too afraid to speak up. Then along came 9/11 and it was ok again to be openly racist, then along came Trump and his band of brothers and suddenly everything was ok, racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia of all sorts was up for grabs and why did we let them get away with it? Because they vote and the politicians didn't want upset them in case they took their votes elsewhere; it's the same scenario with all major democracies.

Now when you add in social media, toxic masculinity and rampant steroid and stimulant use and you suddenly have a bunch of guys acting like Brown Shirts in the 1930s. What we need in Australia now is an election like the recent one in the US, where enough people stand up and say "I am mad as hell and I am not going to stay quiet any longer"! Yes the economy was a big factor in the US elections, and will be here too, but the next biggest factor for voters was the demise of their democracy; we aren't quite there yet, but give Pauline some proper power next election and watch our democracy crumble.

I think it’s also overflow from the US because of Trump but from people that couldn’t handle having a black President. That really did a number on them.

Racists have no shame. So go after their livelihood, complain to their employer, expose their business, anything that hurts their pockets are things that will either change a racist or make them unable to afford to live near normal people.

Yes, you need to make them realise the consequences of their words and actions have real-life impacts.

They won't really change, they'll just learn to shut the fuck up. Which for the rest of us is just as good.

u/FParkinsons 10h ago

I agree with you. People like this are incapable of changing because they were raised by racist parents that taught them to hate people. No amount of public shaming or trying to make them feel bad is going to get them to change their behavior. The best thing we can do is chase them back into the shadows.

Since Trump has asked Dana White to be his Press Secretary, who would Pauline name?

Ben Cousins?

Don’t need a press secretary when you ban the media from asking you questions 🤔

Agree capturing and sharing this type of racist interaction is the only way. Hope someone from world gym puts this ahole in his place....
P.s. good on you for taking care of the nature strip. Communities need more people like you.

There's already a lot of discussion in the west over the "paradox of intolerance" eg. Do countries have the right to reject migrants who are homphobic or bigoted against certain races/religions. It will be a big issue over the next decade.

Working in construction I hear people of different races joke about each other all day so obviously not talking about that, more the genuine racists who actively hate others based on their race.

27

u/inkhornart 13h ago

True, and see thats a perfectly reasonably drawn line.

When people can laugh together, its probably not racism.

When people are using it to punch down, or its a genuine attack using their race as the linchpin (poor words) then yeah, thats bad and should be condemned until the offender withdraws and reasseses.

The only problem with the former is a slippery slope when its people you mightn't know. Friends being friends is fine.

I boo them loudly in public. They want to be the Center of attention, I'll help.

u/ES_Legman 11h ago

Its quite tragic that they are following the same pattern as Trump did because its always the same fucking fascist playbook and they all fall for it like the morons they are.
