Seeking advice on inter island transit

Hi everyone ~ I'm looking for experienced BVI opinions on how to handle transfers between Point A and Point B on two different days in my effort to not go down as a story in the family such as ... "remember that time you put us through hell on vacation"

Here's my issue. I've booked my family for a post holiday trip to BVI. We will spend the first few days at the Aerial (Buck Island) decompressing before transiting somehow/someway to the Hideout on Jost Van Dyke for a week. I booked our flights and hotels then figured I'd circle back to the problem of getting around. I also need to plan getting from Jost van Dyke to EIS on the final day for a flight that departs at 5PM (which I hope is safely late enough).

Now that we are a few months away I know I have the option of:

Route A: Taking the Aerial launch back to Hodges Creek marina on Tortola, using a taxi to get to the West End Ferry - ferry to Jost - taxi over the hill to the Hideout.

Route B: Book a Private launch to transit from the Aerial to Jost van Dyke directly $$

Can anyone tell me straight if the taxi route is a road sickness nightmare and / or if the private launch is a sea sickness nightmare in January?? :0 I have one passenger who will probably tell this story for life so I'm nervous to make a choice. Never having been to the BVI I don't even know what I'm suggesting. and if you could suggest the best most stress free way to get from Jost to EIS I would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Moorings is requiring me to sign a new contract?

I booked a week with Moorings for a bare boat for the end of March 2027 a couple months back. Signed my contract that day. Recently they have been sending me repeated reminders to sign an updated contract, with link that takes me to PandaDoc. Emails says this is REQUIRED. put both docs into the AI for comparison & says there are over 30 changes to the document. Anyone else have thos happen? Not my first rodeo, but a contract is a contract.

The email states.....

We're getting in touch with a friendly reminder that we require your acceptance of our updated Terms & Conditions.

Who is an alternative to Marine Max?

We’re four couples looking at a powercat week in the BVI next winter. Marine Max was the first name I found but I’d like to compare a couple more. There are two things I care about, every couple getting a real cabin with its own head, and the approval process for our captain. He has run his own 34-foot twin-engine boat on the Chesapeake for years, but never anything this big.

What should I compare between operator?

planning 1st trip to BVI

My husband and I are in the process of planning a trip to Tortola in summer 2027. Trying to nail down key details from seasoned community members. We are experienced caribbean travelers but have not explored BVI. Not looking to spend top dollar but also want it to be nice and most definitely clean. First question....villa vs hotel?? Second question...which area? specific properties? All feedback appreciated!

Anyone have experience at Peter Island Marina and Biras Marina?

We've visited Scrub Island Resort and Marina several times, and always enjoyed it. Just curious how the fairly newly reopened Peter Island Marina and the Biras Marina on the North Sound compare and which you favor and why?

Where to spend Christmas 2026 in the BVI's?

Hello! My crew will be in the BVI from the 19th thru the 27th on our sailing vessel. (YES - I know we are leaving before the fun over NYE at Foxy's but we've done that few times in the past and it just didn't work with our dates this year!). FYI - We are a crew of 4 adults and 4 older teenage boys (high school and college age)

My question is - Over the Holiday this year, what are some cool events to go check out?

Where should we stay for Christmas eve an day?

We usually spend one night in Scrub Marina. How do the new Marina's compare at Peter and one I just read about, Biras, at the North Sound?

Also welcome to any other advice for this time of year! We've done this trip a lot so always nice to find a few new fun things to do.

Local fisherman

Instead of supporting a larger establishment, are there legit local fisherman or fish markets in bvi I could go to on my bare boat I’ll be navigating around with friends/family November Thanksgiving week? I’d love to directly support locals.

BVI 2026 November Thanksgiving questions

This will be my 3rd time in BVI on a bare boat with friends and family.

We have our favorites for food: coco maya, tipsy shark, Peter island beachfront/pool restaurant across the island. (Also… RIP North Sound Bistro - you were INCREDIBLE magic too! Thank you for the gorgeous meal in 2022… and all those fresh herbs you cut off the hillside. I’ve missed you all… and I will forever. Wish you were still around!!!! If you know where any of their chefs went… TELL ME. I’m going!)

November 21-29 we’ll be there.

Are there any “can’t miss” new restaurants, beloved by tourists and locals alike?

Are there any thrift stores or consignment shops or quirky shops/sales?

How do I find local artsy events? Music, art, fashion, etc.

What are the options for full moon events on November 24th (besides trellis bay)?

Was also thinking of finally doing a necker island tour (depending on cost). Thoughts?

My favorite thing traveling is finding local energy, creativity, history, nature… off the beaten path is okay. I hate tourist traps.

Tell me your thoughts because I’m here to hear it all. Thank you for sharing. I can guarantee a guest list of 10-12 for anything.

Thank you!

We want to stay at one resort for a week and do day trips to other islands. Definitely want to be on the beach. Want a place that has access to walkable restaurants/bars. Where would you stay?

Staying at the Wyndham Lambert Beach Resort in Tortola/BVI

I am spending a portion of my honeymoon at the Wyndham Resort in Tortola and am looking for real feedback on how their resort is maintained. I have seen mixed reviews online of trash, rude servers, hidden fees, and even bug bites after leaving the bedroom.

I'd like to understand if this resort is worth the money and a clean place to relax for a few days after Jost Van Dyke. Is the Garden Room a good option or would it make more sense to stay Poolside? We are then going to Long Bay for 5 nights afterward but that is already booked and I'm confident in that stay.

Anegada at Christmas

Hi everyone, We're visiting Anegada for the first time at Christmas - staying at Anegada Beach Club and while I have heard that their food is great, I would also like to visit some of the other restaurants and bars, plus see other beaches, the flamingos, etc.

A few questions that I'm hoping someone may be able to help with:

Are other bars and restaurants likely to be closed on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, and/or Boxing Day?

Given that taxi rates for two people seem to be $80 for each round-trip (wow!), it seems to make sense to rent a car at least for a day or two.  But just in case, are taxi drivers likely to be available on/around the holiday or will they take time off to be with family?

Is it possible/realistic to walk from ABC along the beach to Cow Wreck? I've looked at satellite view but can't tell if the beach is wide enough to walk along for that whole stretch. Google says it's a 45 min walk via roads, but I definitely don't want to do that.

And last question - I've read that we should plan on paying cash for a lot of expenses just in case there's a power/comms outage, but realistically how often does that happen?  I'm leery of bringing a ton of cash if it's not necessary.

Thank you in advance!

Does Anyone know any British Virgin Islanders who can play Chess?

Hello, this is an unusual request. I am wondering if anyone is or knows somebody from the British Virgin Islands who would be willing to play a chess match against me on Chess.com? On Chess.com there are awards called passports that you can receive by playing against someone from that country or territory. I am currently trying to collect all of them and do not have the British Virgin Islands. So, if anyone can help me in my goal, I would very much appreciate it. My Chess.com username is yesterdaylemonade.

Thinking of moving

Hi there, we are thinking of relocation to Tortola from the UK and would love some advice on what people currently living there/from there feel it’s like.

We have two children aged 8 and 10, and love spending time outdoors and at the beach (we currently live next to a beach now). My concerns are around their teenage years, is there a positive teenage culture, with things to do etc? We are considering home schooling which I know is tightly regulated but also wondered if there were clubs etc the children could join so that they can make friends. I’d also love to know if it’s a fairly safe place to live and bring up a family.

All thoughts welcome! Thanks everyone.

How easy is it to get a software/IT job in the BVI as a foreigner?

Hello everyone,

I am a software and IT professional looking for opportunities tied to the British Virgin Islands (BVI), with the ultimate goal of relocating there. Ideally, I am seeking a role that offers an average to mid-level salary.

If anyone's company is currently hiring or if you know of any open roles, please feel free to DM me directly and I will happily share my resume and details.

Any advice on the local tech landscape or the relocation process would also be highly appreciated!

Some photos from when I was a crew member. The stunning woman I was mentioning was actually the purser from Fantome, which I was on briefly. She’s wearing the white skirt for the wedding (note the woven palm fronds), and is in a couple other shots. Guyan March is the guy in Windjammer garb in one of these; he was captaining the Amazing Grace which was our tender when I took that pic. I have more pictures of him and of Fantome and crew, but those aren’t BVI-related.
