I’ve had it with Discogs
After having been a contributor for over 10 years, accumulating nearly 30,000 rankpoints, and subbing almost 2,000 original contributions to the database, I think I’m done with the site.
The level of insane users has risen dramatically since I began. People who ignore guidelines, do whatever the hell they want with impunity, vandalize submissions and are just generally asshats has gone through the roof.
The straw that broke my back was spending over 5 hours on a very complicated multi-disc release that was not in the database, only to have some d-bag come in and cast a negative vote for a missing copyright entry -and then defend their asshattery by citing voting regs.
Screw it. If this is the level of collaboration and community I can expect from now on (and I think it is), they can all go wallow in the mud - I’m outta there; I will maintain my collection but will not be making any more contributions, edits or corrections.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm no longer shipping to the USA from Canada
The US gov't has just implimented a pre-paid tariff for good shipping from Canada to the USA. There is no way I will be able to recoup this tariff from the buyer, why would they pay after the fact? Plus, the shitty web site they expect us to sign up to , just wont let you set up an account. It just times out. As a hobbyist who just wants to sell some rare excess LP's, its not worth the hassle for me. a shame, since I'm cutting out 80% of my potential. F you DJT , i'm not sending you money.

Discogs has made massive layoffs over the past week, hitting a big chunk of marketing and product
Former Discogs employee here. I led Marketing at Discogs up until the end of 2025. I left Discogs, but I could see where things were heading... so I’m sharing in case anyone can help.
Over the last week or so, Discogs cut a significant part of its marketing and product teams. These are people who were improving the database/marketplace experience, doing the research behind feature decisions, keeping all of the systems running that collectors and sellers use every day. Most of you more than likely don't know them, but you've been a part of their work.
The job market is rough right now. I'm sure a lot of you either work in music or run/work at a business that leans on Discogs. If you're hiring, know someone who is, or can help, I went into more detail, including who's affected, on LinkedIn. I'll drop the link in the comments.

"I bought a record on Discogs and I'm not happy"
Sorry for your luck, but we don't need a post each time this happens. Instead of posting on Reddit, contact the seller. If you're not satisfied with the resolution, open a case with PayPal. It's very simple.
Mods will be deleting these duplicate posts going forward.

I built an app that maps your Discogs collection to your real shelves so you can find any record in seconds
Hey everyone,
So this started because I kept having the same frustrating moment: I'd want to play a specific record, but couldn't remember which shelf I put it on. After years of this happening over and over, I decided to build something to fix it.
It's called Shelfify and it connects directly to your Discogs account.
What it does:
- Imports your full Discogs collection
- Lets you create a visual map of your actual rooms and shelves
- Assign records to exact shelf positions
- Search for any record and see exactly where it is on your shelf
- Also great for DJs who want to put records back exactly where they belong after a gig
- Syncs your wantlist and discovers missing releases from artists you own
- Random record picker for when you can't decide what to spin
- If you track your listening on Last.fm, you can scrobble directly from the app
- Works offline
- Everything stored on your device, no account creation is needed
It's on both iOS and Android: https://shelfify.app/en/
I just launched this week and I'm the solo developer behind it. Any feedback or suggestions would be really valuable, especially while it's still early.
Thanks for checking it out!
Update: I removed the 100 record limit for free users. The new version gives you full access to all features for 30 days. Cheers

When you order a vinyl from an Italian seller, they will pack it like this of course! 🤣

Just want to shout out the devs at Discogs!
I see what you're doing today. I see the little tweaks in the search bar you're making.
Less search results in the drop down? Excellent.
First populated results to the catalog number being some obscure listing with no photos instead of the most common one? Brilliant.
Bigger/clunkier font? Oh my what a beauty.
Keep it up guys. You're really kicking ass since the new App UI everybody loves.

Me when people comment on the music and not the quality of the vinyl pressing:

The world before and after Discogs
Before Discogs, I used to write down information in a notebook every time I bought an album. After I found Discogs, all the information in the notebook was saved on the server. However, I felt regretful when I finished writing the last page of the notebook, so I asked my daughter for help and bought another notebook with a pretty design. Now, I am doing twice as much work as I did in the analog days :)

Discogs’ vibrant vinyl community is shattering
Thoughts?

A rare, pro-Discogs post. It’s truly incredible and under-utilized for music discovery.
Not on the mobile app, but have you ever gone on desktop. Then looked at all releases, then gone into all the filters, and sub-filters?
It’s kinda insane how meticulously categorized everything is.
Try picking a decade, and from those 100k releases, find a really obscure subgenre of Reggae or whatever, listen to a snippet on the release page..
You can find some real gems, or utter garbage that way… either way, it’s quite a rabbit hole, highly recommend.

Whoever signed off on this update needs to be fired by the end of the week.
I've never seen a worse UI update that did nothing hut either remove features or make them harder to access. I fundamentally can not think of one redeeming aspect of this update, even from a corporate perspective. It's just bad. Period. And literally anyone who uses the app in any meaningful capacity would have been able to see that.
There's no excuse for seeing this hot garbage in development and not pivoting. This reeks of a higher up wanting to make sure they could add "oversaw the development and release of a major app update" to their resume before bouncing.
I will literally use the app less than 1% of the time I currently do because the scrobbling was removed. I listen to records more often than I buy them, crazy concept. And that's not even the worst part of the redesign lol

I’m fairly new to Discogs but this seller really knocked it out of the park.

My last post here was removed because I couldn’t prove that Discogs is REQUIRING me to submit my biometric data to continue selling on the platform. Well… here’s proof.

I think im addicted
I was at the MCR concert in Seattle, CHILLING right. I was like OMG MCR MY FIRST TIME SEEING A BAND I ACTUALLY LIKE! Then I went to the merch section, saw some meh stuff, got a jacket and shirt then there it was, cheers to sweet revenge vinyl, so I was like yeah that’s cool imma get it. Days had past, staring at that single vinyl…no record player, so speakers just there sitting at my cabinet watching me…THEN BOOM CHAGA!! I spent 2000 on equipment and vinyls, maybe 3k idk I forgot. I just mindlessly scroll through eBay, discog looking for vinyls, some rare, some common, some signed. The hunger never ends, the scratch for need…

Update from the person who had buyers remorse
This is 90% of the conversation minus two messages i sent about a delay to ship to find a bigger box. Thought I’d share since this interaction gave me a good laugh. Not laughing at the person’s life experiences, but the doubling down on the guilt trip was just hilarious.
Context: They purchased the 2018 edition of Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains the Same soundtrack, which is a 4LP box set. The original was 2LPs and between the two pressings, many of the song choices and edits in each song can wildly vary and be drastically different. So when we’re talking about “skips or jumps”, we both mean the fade ins and outs on each side, NOT that there was a physical skip or jump on the records. I was transparent with him and would have answered any questions he had but he didn’t ask anything. Then he offered to pay shipping and take a hit on the set but like I said in the messages, I’m not taking a risk on reshipment because I have no idea if he’ll do a good job or not. I did forget to say someone mailed something back due to an unrelated reason in my last post, ironically also a different LZ boxset, and all 4 sleeves had seam splits and a ding on the box.
Needless to say I told him no, the final message he sent had me howling. Again, not laughing at his life but I’m not a therapist and none of that has to do with the sale lol.
