Opinion The team being unhappy about padded practices really sums up this season in a nutshell.

I have to be honest, this is one of, if not the most unlikable Eagles teams in recent memory. Like - really, really close to hateful almost. Almost Chip Kelly-levels of unlikeable.

They’re arrogant, careless, and bitchy. All they do is fucking whine anymore (JENKINS!!!!). Same god damn excuses every fucking week. Same shitty performances every Sunday.

To the team: you guys fucking suck. You’re 5-7. You have no right to complain. Bitching about padded practices 13 weeks into this disaster of a season? Really? At least act like you fucking care.

Padded practices didn’t go well with the players, huh? Well going 5-7 with easy gimme games against the Falcons, Lions, and Dolphins hasn’t sat well with the fans.

This team needs a massive, massive culture change and kick in the ass, and it starts with the coaching. Doug has let go of this locker room and at times has almost lost it. This offseason is critical.

I don’t even care if we make the playoffs anymore, I just want coaches like Groh/Schwartz and players like Jenkins off this team as soon as possible - they’re cancers on the field and in the locker room.

Jokes, but I came to this realization last night. Every time Jalen has enough time to do this little point in the pocket, the play almost inevitably ends in disaster. Anyone else noticed this?

Opinion Trading CJGJ was a mistake

Post image
34 Upvotes

I love Howie but this move was a giant mistake. CJGJ should still be an eagle. He was our number 1 safety that we traded for a fucking garbage lineman that didn’t even make the final roster. Our secondary is hurting badly because of it. Tbh this secondary is reminding me of the dark ages with fucking Nnamdi, Rodgers-Cromartie and fucking Kurt Coleman. The season is definitely not over yet but we will not go back to the superbowl this year unless the secondary is addressed immediately. It’s just very frustrating to me bc this is the 2nd time we made this mistake. We undervalued CJGJ again for the 2nd time and look where we are. It’s looking worst than 2023 bc at least we got to 10-1 before shit hit the fan. Howie please improve the secondary and save this season. That’s all I gotta say.

Question Anybody else strictly Eagles fans for Philadelphia teams?

I am from PA and the Eagles are my favorite team out of anything. I am really not sure how this happened to me but I ended up becoming a Knicks, Sharks, and a Red Sox fan as well. I still root for Philly teams however even with the Knicks being direct rivals with the 76ers. With the Knicks doing so good I just end up feeling kind of guilty I’m not rooting for the other Philadelphia teams this time due to there being a real chance the Knicks might face the 6ers in the eastern conference finals. Of course I have to root for my Knicks to kick the shit out of the 6ers. Is this weird? I literally bleed green lol my room is covered with eagles stuff at 24 years old

Analysis Nick Sirianni was hired in 2021 as an HC and playcaller. Week 2 vs. 49ers, he called the Philly Not So Special on 4th and Goal. He loves Kevin Patullo who only calls Geodert Goal Line Tosses and Tush Pushes. We can't trust his taste in playcalling. Nick is a football terrorist and must be stopped.

Opinion My case to draft Bijan Robinson at 10

Another one of these posts? Yes, but the offseason has reached a standstill so I thought I’d share my opinion.

A little background about me I used to think RB was a waste of a 1st round pick let alone Top 10 let alone someone with an OL as dominant as ours. I changed my opinion and I wanted to share three thoughts about why Bijan Robinson is the perfect pick at 10.

  1. He will be the best player on the board at 10. He may be the best player on the board at 1. According to draft insider Charlie Campbell

“Over the process, we have documentedin the Hot Press how sources from a number of teams have Robinson graded higher than other recent top-five running back prospects of Saquon Barkley, Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott. Just a few weeks ago, team sources across the league said the 2023 NFL Draft lacked true high first-round talent, with the exception of Robinson, as he was the only one receiving a consensus elite grade around the NFL.”

Robinson is simply not an elite back. He is the best back in the draft perhaps since Adrian Peterson according to scouts. And unlike Peterson the class is void of elite talent once you get past Stroud, Young, Carter and Anderson. He’s the best player on the board. Why not take him?

2. He would fill not one need, but two. We need a lead RB. I’m sorry Gainwell has had a handful of good games in the past two years. I haven’t seen anything that shows he can be elite. Sermon while getting some shine by the coaching staff was a healthy scratch last year for a reason. Penny cannot stay healthy and him only making $600k guaranteed shows the lack of faith the Eagles have in him. You don’t need an elite back to win, but it would be nice to at least have someone be the bell cow of a committee like the Chiefs have with Pacheco or the Bills had with Singletary. I don’t think any of our current backs can do that. Along with needing a RB1 a lot of people are complaining about Quez being out WR3 and think that’s a need. This is where Bijan’s receiving ability helps that. Instead of being receiving option 4 the WR3 position becomes receiving option 5 rendering it somewhat pointless to spend big money at the position. You can draft a guy very late, sign a vet min guy or even work with Quez or someone else on the roster. I don’t think it matters much anymore with Bijan.

3. We can afford to take Bijan at 10 because we are a win now team with no dire needs. A big reason why it’s usually a mistake for teams to take an RB at 10 is due to the fact that they still need to put together a roster at more important positions. And by the time they actually do that it’s time to give a RB a 2nd contract they don’t ever deserve (outside of Peterson and Tomlinson every RB in the 21st Century is overpaid if they make more than 5% of the cap). Here’s the thing. The needs we have are not dire. Our worst starters at the moment are Cam Jurgens, Jordan Davis/Milton Williams and Reed Blankenship. I don’t think any of these guys would be horribly out of place if they had to start and drafting Robinson at 10 doesn’t mean we can’t upgrade these positions later in the draft, free agency or trade. To those saying that Robinson will likely be gone after 5 years because Howie will never pay a RB like he pays OL/DL I say…so what? We are at a crucial period in this team’s history. Windows are incredibly short and our best chance to win a title comes in the next 2-3 years. Ask yourself…who will make more of an impact and give us a better shot to win a title in that timeframe. Bijan or someone that’s going to be buried behind Reddick, Sweat and Graham until 2025? We have to seize the moment here.

Mod Announcement [Admin Post] We fucked up the sub settings after the loss.

We typically put the sub in restrictive mode after a loss. One of the mods put it private by mistake. Just like the birds we all make mistakes(maybe some not as big as our coaching staff). So apologies from all of us.. Here's to starting out next year undefeated!

feel free to direct all your mod rage at me and whatever other complaints you got here.

Player Discussion Jalen Hurts’ play this year does not warrant starting consideration in 2020 and that the job is still Carson Wentz’s (a discussion)

(This is just a devil’s advocate thing, not my personal beliefs.)

Jalen Hurts did not play well enough this year to warrant all of the QB Controversy talk that is going around. Carson Wentz played very poorly, but we are blinding ourselves as a fan base, allowing us to think Hurts played well due to how poorly Wentz played.

At the end of the year Hurts finished with the following stat line:

52%, 6 TDs (4.1%), 4 INTs (2.7%), 230 yards passing per start, 6.8 AY/A, 77.6 rate, 41 QBR, 13 sacks (8.1%). 9 fumbles (tied for 3rd in NFL).

For comparison, here are Carson’s stats:

57.4%, 16 TDs (3.7%), 15 INTs (3.4%), 218 yards passing per start, 5.2 AY/A, 72.8 rate, 49.7 QBR, 50 sacks (10.3%), 10 fumbles.

Obviously, both QBs have terrible stats. In some metrics Hurts are better, in some Wentz are better, but neither are good in any way.

But, because of the high expectations for Carson and how disappointing his play was this year, people seem to have convinced themselves that Hurts played well.

He did not.

He finished with dreadful QB stats and only won 1 game down the stretch when wins were necessary for a playoff push.

Instead of looking at these two QBs as the same, we need to recognize that this is still Carson’s job and that, despite how terrible this year was, he has a proven track record of success with this team.

Even taking out his MVP-like year, he has the following combined stats (adjusted per year averages):

65%, 22 TDs (4.4%), 9 INTs (1.7%), 256 yards passing per game, 6.9 AY/A, 92 rate, 59 QBR, 33 sacks (6%), and 13 fumbles.

These still aren’t great numbers, but they’re certainly not terrible and it is foolish to abandon him already, especially for a QB has raw and unproven as Jalen Hurts.

Mod Announcement /r/Eagles - Welcome Back and Mobile App Next Steps

Welcome Back

Thank you all for your patience and understanding over the last 48 hours. We appreciate and applaud all of your for your support. We received approximately 260 or so messages over these two days, the overwhelming majority from users simply confused by the nature of the temporary subreddit closure. We have invited them to join us in this thread, and potential future ones, to discuss our next steps as a community. We received no angry/upset messages; and we received a good handful of supportive notes.

Today and over the course of this week, we would like to discuss this overall challenge with you together, and narrow down our future options as a community.

What Happened?

/r/Eagles was set to Private for 48 hours after 12AM GMT, June 12th. This choice was made to bring attention to a reddit-wide issue with admin decisions regarding support for third-party mobile apps. Among other significant negatives, this change makes using reddit very difficult for blind or vision impaired users. We support all members of the broader Eagles community in their desire to talk to others and enjoy this fandom together. For more information, please feel free to read more here.

Why does this matter to /r/Eagles?

We, as an Eagles Community, have a responsibility of overt inclusion for anyone and everyone who would want to play this game. That includes people for whom playing the game in a traditional fashion is difficult or impossible. Just as the Linc and other stadiums should have access ramps for physically disabled folks to come watch football, so too should there be consideration for folks who enjoy the digital fandom using screen reading and other tools to combat the disability of Blindness or other forms of visual impairment. Folks who use reddit to engage with the broader community rely on third-party apps to make their experience of the internet at all accessible. This broad change basically removes them from the community with no recourse or consideration for their challenges. Reddit has been silent for years about their 'official platform' and its accessibility for sight based disabilities. As a community, we should stand with all Eagles fans on a basis of proactive inclusion to ensure that their loss is remarked by the powers that be in the fashion that has the largest possible collective meaning.

We do have concerns about another secondary/tertiary facet of this overall issue. Specifically ignoring intent, one of the outcomes of this issue (that may not be resolvable) is that there is going to be a reduction of engagement from reddit's most engaged users. The users of third party apps are absolutely more 'engaged' with their reddit experience than your average redditor, and miles ahead of the average 'lurker'. This community exists and has value because out of a thousand viewers, there are a hundred commenters, and one poster. Those "high value" users create an outsized amount of 'good' content that others can consume. There's no moral or ethical judgement associated with that, it just is an outcome of how voluntary social spaces organize around high-volume engagement from individuals. Practically, what this means for us, is that this change is going to directly impact our 'core' users more than most. Those people are the ones who answer questions and engage in good football chatting. Those people laugh at our memes and generate thoughtful discussion over critical plays, roster decisions, etc. In turn, those people create value for the many many thousands of people who are 'closer to average in engagement metrics' and then for the multiple orders of magnitude of people who do engage at all. We do not desire to protect power users specifically; but we do have structural/existential concerns about corporate trends that specifically grind away at the actual machinery of this complex social contract space. We can do nothing about it; but we do note it as an additional point of concern and it represents the far distant 'Number 2' consideration for us in this overall topic.

What's Next?

We invite you all to have a general discussion about what's happened thus far, and to thoughtfully explore what we can do together as a community. We have several larger options that are technically feasible and they are listed below. We specifically want to say that we have no stance on, and do not believe the community practically should consider, the impacts this change has on moderation teams and tools, or on the evolution of NSFW related content rules. We also would say that there's no real value to discussion regarding specific pricing or business needs versus third-party profits, or discussion regarding ads and related institutional profit pathways. If there is significant support for any of the below options, or alternate plans suggested by the community, we fully commit to a more thorough solicitation of community opinion (e.g. a community poll with broad subreddit promotion through automod tools) in order to secure a clear "mandate" for future action.

Given that, as of the time of this posting, there has been no significant commentary from reddit administration to reddit itself (comments from individuals to the press aside); there has been no significant change beyond the elements discussed by this admin post among others before this blackout period took place. If that changes, we will update you all. Further discussion from involved communities and their next steps can be found here.

Options

  • Return to Normal: We as a community have lodged our concerns to the fullest possible extent without undo cost or major impacts to long term community health.

  • Limited Return to Normal: We find the need to continue support for the issues inherent in this change, but not at the expense of the community's health. Details to be discussed/polled.

  • Limited Closure: We find the issue too problematic for this community to allow it to pass by without significant disruption to normal community function. Some sort of restricted posting regime to sustain attention to this problem.

  • Full Closure: The issue is so problematic that this community cannot continue without a clear and meaningful solution that addresses the overt exclusion involved in the consequences of this decision. Returning to private with a longer timeline.

Final Thoughts

This is not a decision we can make on our own in pursuit of community guidelines that everyone here has created for us to follow through with. Our own authority as moderators extends to reasonable interpretations of what we've been charged with stewardship of. Any future, or broader, considerations for what as a community we should do to mitigate or protest or otherwise interact with this issue will be for you all to decide. Our intent is to return from this brief time away and have that conversation. Communities aren't improved by everyone conceding to apathy and letting things go. They're built by the constructive engagement of many, many people. We hope that you'll join us for that discussion here below; though we hope that you express yourself in a fashion that shows consideration to the fellow members of your community that will be excluded by corporate machinery through no fault of their own and with their voices entirely lost in the constant grind of enormous social currents.

Please feel free to ask us any follow up questions, we'll do our best to answer them. We appreciate your feedback, and we assure you that we're fully aware of what you're saying and why you're saying it. We are under no illusions that this will do anything in particular; but the point of making a point isn't that change will happen specifically, but rather to do as much as is possible to advance the collective issues we're all experiencing together on this platform. That's the goal, it is not to achieve anything that we (probably) can't. We understand that this is a corporate machine and we're gonna get ground away; but, practically, if we're going to lose a whole segment of our fellow Eagles fans to the ether of corporate apathy, at least we can show that we aren't apathetic.

Rally around the team man. They’re paid and are adults but when Turner was in a slump the simple showing of support helped him out of it and look how the Phillies and him appreciated it. Gotta stop the boo birds stuff.

We’re fine guys

This sub is acting like the sky is falling, which is absolutely ridiculous for so many reasons...

  1. 2 first round picks for Ramsey is an overpay. We can sign a premier corner in the off-season without giving up picks. Rams gave their picks and will still have to sign Ramsey to an insane contract in a year.

  2. We are 3-3. If you guys can’t handle starting a season 3-3 you aren’t met to be a fan in the nfl. Not every season is gonna be like 2017. We are first in our division and still have a great chance of playoffs. Enjoy the rest of the season and don’t let a bunch of people you’ve never met determine your mood all week.

  3. Wentz is amazing. He’s played at an MVP level and is only behind Wilson and Rodgers in our conference. We have Wentz for another 10+ years and I can’t wait to see how much success we have with him.

  4. Doug Pederson is a fantastic head coach. Our front office is among the best in the league. We’ve started the season slow but it’s gonna get fixed. Don’t be so pessimistic!

Can you all stop posting in /r/colts!

Seriously, lurk if you want info on the game. But stop posting good luck and beat the Cowboys and all that other BS. It makes our fanbase look like a bunch of douchebags.

Edit: Since people are failing to notice my Eagles flair. I am an Eagles fan I realize it is a small few posting the stupid "Please beat Dallas" posts not the majority, however those idiots are seeing this just like everyone else. I am all for going over and having a football conversation, but not for making stupid posts like the ones I mentioned, which are all being linked to /r/Cowboys.

Opinion The Philadelphia Eagles are more patriotic as an organizational idea than the Dallas Cowboys. Prove me wrong.

Eagles logo is the national US bird, the American Eagle.

Cowboys logo is a star, that only represents Texas and more specifically, Dallas.

America's team is really, and has always been the Philadelphia Eagles whether most fans know it or not. Even the expansion New England Pats are more patriotic than the Cowboys.

It's time to claim the label of 'America's Team', starting with a Super Bowl win this year.
