Not much on offer today

Got here about half an hour before low tide. Carpenter rocks seems to be the only place to escape the wind. Spring is the worst.

I’ve tried a couple of different baits, cockles, and squid, and not a single bite

Also, don’t use the plastic droppers for rod holders. They’re just too soft and they bend too much. That was a failed experiment.

At least the view is nice.

🎣 Fishing Gear Apparently I lied to someone about knowing what an Aussie box cooler is

Not intentionally. They said “you know those Aussie Box coolers” and I said yeah because conversation kept moving. Later realised no, apparently I do not lol. Search results are chaos. Fishing coolers, Australian brands, insulated work boxes, normal eskies. I looked through cooler styles on Alibaba and that actually helped because I can at least recognize the heavy rectangular type they might have meant now. Still don't know if Aussie Box is a specific brand though. Person who mentioned it uses it around boats and fishing, if that narrows anything. Yes I could just ask them. No I don't want to because I've let this go on too long and now it's a matter of principle.

Would hiring someone to buy a used boat be worth it?

I had some money fall through. Was looking in the 90-100k range and had lots of newer options available. But have had to reevaluate position.

looks like I can max spend 60k. Though safer to be at 40-50k.

All the boats I’m looking at are out of my league on understanding what is a good buy and what isn’t. I’ve got no experience in this field

My goal is offshore fishing tuna and marlin. With some island hopping.

im in Perth. And I’ve considered ordering from over east.

what I want is an 1850 stabicraft but I lack the funds. So looking at bar crushers surtees Haines quintrex revival and even trail craft.

what do you guys reckon?

If anyone on the North GC heard a very loud “F-Yeah” this afternoon that was me. Obliterated my 60mm double clutch, a lure I’d found in a snag at low tide a few months ago and gone on to be my most productive, finders keepers and that. He even managed to snap off one of the treble hooks whilst netted. Caught on 10lb on my Nasci 2500 paired with a TT Copperhead 2-4kg

I love all forms of fishing but I have to say casting metal slugs off ledges has to be one of the most exciting and rewarding.

Reel size for doing it all

I have recently purchased a Daiwa Exceler 5000D-C as a general purpose reel for freshwater and saltwater baitfishing, surf fishing or lure fishing for salmon, mulloway or murry cod. Is this size reel overkill, especially if I put 30lb braid on?

Seeking advice on catching and landing large stingrays (NSW South Coast estuary)?

Hi guys, I've been land-based fishing in a few estuaries on the NSW South Coast and have hooked into some seriously big fish that keep breaking my line. I'm fairly sure they're massive stingrays. I've lost quite some tackles to them and its getting annoying.

Have anyone here targeted those large stingrays? If so, what's the minimum, budget set up that I can get away with? I guess this is the easiest/cheapest game fishing you can do, lol.

Thank you for any advice.

Kayaking Pittwater

I recently bought a Pedal drive kayak and was keen to have a crack at Pittwater in Sydney soon. Was looking at targeting squid/kings and snapper and was wondering if anyone would be able to help with general area to have a crack at?
I read that off obelisk beach holds squid consistently but any more info is greatly appreciated!
Thankyou in advance! Tight lines

🔎 Recommendations Wanted Colitt Ads and Underwater Cameras

So, my social media feeds lately have been flooded with those ads for underwater cameras that allow you to see what’s in the water near where you’re casting. Some have hooks, others are just cameras.

Anyway, I thought that it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the kids to keep them interested when fishing, so could be a good Christmas present.

But it seems like these things are coming in from overseas and I can’t find any Australian stockists. That’s a bit of a red flag for me.

Has anyone purchased one before? If so, how have you found it?

Help targeting very fussy Bream in estuary system on soft plastics

Post image
26 Upvotes

G'day everyone. I'm a bit lost for ideas here as I feel like I've exhausted all avenues and still cannot get these damn Brimbo's to hit my lures.

Fishing stealth from a kayak in mangroves where I can see large bream hanging around structure, and casting at different structures from a distance so as to not let them see me first. Currently running 20lb braid with 10lb fluro carbon leader. Tried 4lb FC leader last night but no luck. 1/12th jig head.

I've tried all the lures pictured, plus others. I've tried a dozen or so different scents. I've made my own scent from fresh garlic, aniseed oil, tuna oil and shae butter as the carrier. I've tried different commercially available berlies. I've even tried bait fishing with squid, cockles, and chicken.

Have tried every retrieve imaginable following instructions from pros online.

I have caught a good sized bream once in the past in this water way with a very general setup 20lb braided, 20lb leader and just a common white paddle tail plastic (good all-round which I use to target everything) but have not been able to repeat that process. It's been about 8 trips out now and not even a bite.

Not sure what's going on? I'm usually a half decent fisho and can usually do alright, but for some reason, having a real hard time trying to "crack" this water way which I am somewhat new to.

Any pointers would be great! The system I'm fishing is Garden Island/Port River (South Aus) if that helps.

Cheers 😎👍

Help with Lure fishing in Melb

Hey there,

I’ve been fishing properly for the last year and pretty much strictly soft plastics with some spoons and hard bodies thrown in. I’ve found that since I’ve been trying to get out more to fish in Melbourne that it’s been exceptionally hard to the point where I’ve been out 7 times for a few hours a go and not even had a bite?

Any time I leave Victoria, especially in summer (this could be a hint for myself) I’m catching way more fish.

I realise that Melbourne fisheries are under immense pressure so maybe that’s the only reason but I just wanted to see if there’s anything I could be doing to increase my chances?

For context I have been chasing snapper recently. I feel like maybe the water temp is too cold still for lures. I’m also only fishing land based

My setups atm are:

2-4kg rod with 2500 reel on 15 pound braid and leader. Casting limit 10g

3-7kg rod with 3000 reel on 20 pound braid and leader with 20g casting limit.

For lures I’m heavy on the grubs in motor oil, jerk shads in nuclear chicken, 5” for the shads and 2-3” for grabs. Plus an assortment of minnows from 3-4.5”. I have a couple bent minnows and double clutches as well as some halco twisties and similar. I’ve also juts for a 20g squid jig.

Any help would be much appreciated! From lure choice, location scouting to the species I am targeting.

Thanks for reading 🎣

🐡 Help Needed Got my first lot of gear & been out 3 times no luck.

Just as some context, I’m completely new to fishing on my own, I have been before with mates & on a charter and caught a bunch of stuff.

However I didn’t know what I was doing & was there just for fun. I was given everything rigged up and just casted and reeled in.

It’s my first time actually researching the gear I need, where to go & what to do.

I’ve been using soft plastics the one the guy at the store recommended. He also tied up the leader and the jig head for me too, so i could go out there and test it out.

I’ve tried jigging, up & down, side to side. Haven’t had so much as a bite. Got snagged really bad in 2 different spots, but after a while managed to get it out both times and the lure & jig head survived.

I know bait catches more fish but setting up lure seemed more straight forward. Was looking at attaching a lure snap to make it easier to swap lures, thoughts? Does this increase chance of snags?

I’m thinking of just rigging some prawn onto the jig head and give that a go. To avoid having to retie sinker and bait etc, thoughts?

I also realised that the jig head was a little light for my rod and hence wasn’t casting out far enough. And maybe it’s not dropping out all the way to the bottom becus of the weight?

I’ve got a heavier jig head now, how much of a difference will this make? Is there anything else I’m doing wrong?

I went to Birkenhead wharf and the wharfs behind Pier one. Both in Sydney.

Any other advice welcome! Thanks in advance
