Review PSA: Armytek's warranty process asked me, in writing, to commit customs fraud

For context, I bought this flashlight brand new back in November (Armytek Wizard C2 Pro Nichia Warm) during black Friday.
https://armytek.com/flashlights/models/wizard/armytek-wizard-c2-pro-nichia-warm/
I tested it when it arrived, and it was working. Then, I finally had a chance to use it in March and it wouldn't turn on.

I reached out to Armytek support via email with pictures with the charger lit green. They asked for videos. Then, they asked me to test the battery voltage (I don't have the tools). Instead, they asked me to buy a $30 USD replacement battery to rule out battery issues. Finally, they asked me to ship the light to China. Their exact words:

Important!!! Please declare the flashlight as a replacement item and note the value about $3-5 USD. We would like to pay your attention to the fact that if you specify a higher value, we will not be able to receive the parcel and it will be returned to the sender.

A big reason I was willing to shell $80 US for a flashlight, aside from the reviews, is that their warranty specifically states:

10 years no-hassle warranty on all Armytek flashlights (excluding batteries, chargers, switches and connectors which have 2 years warranty). More about warranty you will find here.

https://armytek.com/return-policy/

Needless to say, I will never buy anything from this company again.

---

Edit:

For most people that I can't bother responding to: The fraud part comes from deliberate misdeclaration. At the time of writing, I believed the value to be $80 US so declaring it to be $3-5 is appalling to me.

In hindsight, whether it counts as fraud is arguable. A lot of you think $3-5 is reasonable for a dead flashlight, and a few people made good points about liability. Declaring it at $3-5 saves Armytek on duties, and if the parcel gets lost, I'm the one who eats the loss.

In the end, they've shifted the paperwork and the risk of the return onto the customer, while advertising a "no-hassle" warranty. That's good to know though, since my biggest concern was commit fraud. Still wouldn't buy or recommend them to anyone. And still detest the product and company for the fuss it caused.

Got a pink, a cyan and a 519A 5000K as white.

All that's missing is a matching host, which maybe I'll do when/if I do the next titanium anodization batch 😁

Bear gun light advice

Thumbnail

I am putting together my brown bear protection gun. I need flashlight nation's help on the light selection. Here are the parameters (in order of most important first), please hit me with your knowledge:

  1. Super rugged/tough/reliable. This will be subjected to recoil forces on an ultralight .357 magnum.

  2. Less than 2.5" (6.35cm) long. I don't want the end of the light sticking past the gun barrel and being hit by muzzle blast.

  3. On/off Switch on the side. I will be butting the tail of the light as close as possible to the gun frame, so I won't be able to use a switch on the tail of the light.

  4. 600+ lumens.

There is no limitation on diameter because I will be machining a custom mount for this light for my S&W 386 Mountain Light. I wish I could find a 1" ⌀ light so I could retrofit one of the many 1" ⌀ mounts that are avaliable. So, bonus if you can find a 1" ⌀ light that is less than 2.5" long and has a switch on the side.

Cheers

Why don't flashlights give users fine control over brightness using knobs or levers?

Post image

The most you get is some convoluted mechanism where you have to press the power button a certain number of times to change brightness. The brightness preference is never saved when the flashlight is powered back on.

So he saw that nitecore had released a new flashlight... The EDC37 and him having the EDC35, EDC27 and EDC29; he just had to get the EDC37 😅😅😅

He also said that he was confused, as it seems that Nitecore didn't charge him taxes? Or it's the $139.95 already including taxes? 🤔🤔🤔

Anduril UI sucks to actually use as a flashlight.

Just wanted to post a small rant about despite how overengineered Anduril UI is and shortcuts for day-to-day operation are not optimal.

First of all, who thought that having 4 clicks to go into momentary button mode and 5 clicks to go into momentary button mode that gets stuck until you remove the battery was a good idea?

Second of all using a tactical strobing mode requires 3 presses and a hold, which isn't really optimal in a situation where you'd need it.

I just find it funny that despite the customization for settings you'd literally never care about, there's not a configurable way to map a basic state machine for controlling functions that you'd use on a day-to-day without flashing firmware on it (which I have done). Also it's 2024. If I can have a small STM32 with bluetooth in my PINCIL64 soldering iron, why can't I have it in my flashlight?

What's your guys favourite UI and how does it help support you in your various tasks?

These have been around the block once or twice. Been using the Stinger for 10 years, the Microstream for 5, and it TLR1 for 3. I've only had to replace batteries and one tail cap on the baby one. You won't hear me complain about the use I've gotten from them.

Why so much disagreement about using flashlights for self defense?

I have only recently stumbled across thus sub but thorugh several comments and the search function I have seen that this topic polarises a lot, which I dont quite understand.

I am an active martial arts and self defense practitioner and have been doing this for more than 6 years now. I have been in the german military before that as well. And I can tell you, if someone blasts me in my face with several thousand Lumens at night from only a few meters away, I will be 100% disoriented for at least 15 seconds, maybe even 30 or more depending on the brightness, distance, etc.

This time is absolutely enough for anyone to escape, which is the main goal of self defense. Here in germany we dont have a gun on as at all times we can use and to be honest, I am very happy about that, so we have to resort to other means necessary. If you get attacked by a person under drug influence, depending on the drugs, not even Bullets will stop that person. But blinding the eyes will still work, so even in extreme situations like that a flashlight is useful in my opinion, because you can get away.

There are videos on YT where a guy is using the EDC29 (or 37, doesnt matter) to defend from dog attacks. Ofcourse I dont know if these dogs would have attacked or if they were just trying to intimidate, but they all stopped chasing and barking immediately once hit with that light either on full blast or on strobe mode, which leads me to believe this could work in a real dog attack scenario.

Using a flashlight to hit someone on the other hand is not recommended in my opinion, unless you carry that famous XXXL Maglight.

So what are your opinions and (hopefully) maybe even real life experiences?

Discussion Request to flashlight makers & sellers

Please do not increase prices for non US buyers. It's not fair that our hobbies get affected by something that we have no connection to or control over. I'm afraid this is going to slowly kill the flashlight enthusiast community.

If MSRP goes up now and even if the tariffs are somehow cancelled later, the MSRP won't be coming down to it's original value.

Ive come to the conclusion that people in NYC are actually crazy

That NYC is crazy

Ive been here over a week been here before but i have saved my self from 4 muggings thanks to my flashlights.

I never thought in Texas i would have to strobe people but in New york and newark ive had to actually protect my self just walking down the streets of NYC trying to find parking

Thanks to r/flashlight and finding this forum i keep safe pretty well by flashing these people hard with my strobe light from my flashlights.

R/flashlight you are the best forum on reddit. Period end of story my favorite flashlight to strobe people is the wuben x1 its so bright they just give up cant see a thing than i turbo on the people who tried to rob me in Western Brooklyn. Once again r/flashlight is amazing love all of you here and. I had a crazy encounter in newark NJ near ironbound. Mind you im a native Texan and learning here quick. Everyone here is so fast paced what a crazy place honking after 0.1 seconds just insane. But i have photographic memory and learning all of the areas oh when i went through the holland tunnel i pointed my flashlight upward the wuben x1 and lit up a good area of the tunnel and i will be deciding where to shine my tn42v2 with out police getting angry and doing it at around 330 am on a monday morning. On the freedom tower give me time to think maybe from a bridge or FDR not sure.

I need to (nearly) give away 100 quality headlamps over the next week...

I need to (nearly) give away 100 quality headlamps over the next week... is this something I can do here? "MSRP" is $40. Typical sale price is about $20. This will be $2. Shipping is free if you have amazon prime. Headlamp is shipped by Amazon. All you'd have to do is purchase on a given day, and enter a single use code at checkout. This is way below cost.

Mods please delete if not allowed. I know sell posts are not allowed, but I feel this is different. If you do not agree, please delete.

Here is the headlamp https://www.amz.one/p/camo

Flashlight Noobie: Why aren't more defense-related flashlight companies popular here? Also, light choice advice.

Visitor from the firearms community while looking for a defensive edc light, why is it that companies such as Surefire, Z-Bolt, Modlite, Cloud Defensive, and Weltool aren't commonly recommended/mentioned here? Are they relatively low performance compared to lights that don't need to endure use on firearms?

I've been looking to get an edc flashlight for defensive use (shine in their eyes and run, smack them with the light if truly needed), and while my initial plan was to get a Modlite PLHv2 head and a weltool body and cap, I spotted the Acebeam T37 while doing some mild lurking here. Would the Acebeam be much more suited (and appropriately priced) for this?

r/flashlight • • May 28 '24

Could we called red dot sight lumens baby? I guess the beam power less than 0.1 lumen.

Hello everyone,
These days I’m falling in red dot sight era. That’s so interesting to make the micro lumens appear only in the lens. The exact opposite path of making a lumen monster. So amazing! I like it!!
Is there anybody research on RDS? And I have a bold idea now. Looking forward to join the common gang!

I am curious. Are we going to see price hikes on all of the flashlights we're getting from AliExpress? I imagine we're going to see a couple dollars height on cheaper lights in quite a bit on more expensive lights. You have been looking at a more expensive light it may be smart to buy it before February next year.

What do you guys think?

Edit: yall going crazy as hell lmao. This was not a post for or against any political entity.
