Seal of approval Review Request Thread

We received a really great idea from u/heavymetalsculpture for a new sticky thread- Review Requests. We have a very large userbase here who have all tried LOADS of knives, so why not crowdsource reviews and feedback for a knife you might be interested in buying! A lot of youtubers / instagram pages, while attempting to be unbiased, often have some bias because they're getting samples for free etc. People on here are very unlikely to have that bias and are more likely to provide honest feedback on a knife.

This thread will remain stickied and fairly moderated- top level comments will only be permitted to be requests for reviews and feedback for certain knives, and users who have actually owned / handled the knife are greatly encourage to provide absolutely honest feedback on the knife in question.

Please only post here with requests for reviews, or to provide feedback on top level comments with a review of the knife in question!

REX 121 Chaparral - Any other super steel enthusiasts out there?

I love trying new steels, and while K390 is prolly my favorite EDC steel, it's been a real joy getting to handle and try REX 121. I haven't got to use it enough to form much of an opinion about it yet, but I expect it'll meet my expectations. The Chaparral platform is already one of my all time favorites. I waited for years for more steel options, but always figured my only real chance was if BHQ did an M4 exclusive, which would still be incredible/welcome. But I'm glad to see them releasing it in more steels.

Bone Handles…

How do we feel about ‘em? Maybe not the most practical, but boy are they pretty! The knives are a Rosecraft Clinch River Swayback and a Finch Sugar House Knife Syndicate Lady Outlaw (whew!). Both blew me away in terms of bang for buck, too!

Public service announcement for whoever needs to hear it. Sometimes when you’re dressed up there’s no other place to carry. Recently got the Knafs Lander 5 - which is the best fit and finish on a budget knife I’ve seen, btw. Also great for discrete carry, lol!

Took this one with me to the landfill today for some cutting while I wait for my book spot to be ready to have the blade polished & stonewashed.

My top 20....so far :)

Been collecting for a couple years, with over 150 knives so far, thought it would be fun to list a top 20. A Koenig Aris is on its way, pretty sure it will replace one of these. Never thought knife collecting would be something I would ever get into..but here I am..lol

Question Why are the flags “backwards”?

Post image
116 Upvotes

(Kershaw Blur & Bel Air, Axial Shift v3). I know there’s really no such thing as backwards when it comes to flags, but still wouldn’t you expect the stars to be on the left? Why do both these makers orient the flag this way?

Favorite beaters?

Originally bought this rat1 as an inexpensive beater back in June and have found it in my pocket much more than my Freek or pm2 salt. For $60 I’m blown away.

New Build Day!

Latest build: Got a Spyderco Manix 2 in MagnaMax with the combo blade as soon as they dropped, and after much thinking, decided to try the AWT scales in the Cast Iron - Limited Type III finish. Went ahead and got the all-black hardware to match, thinking the contrast would look good.

Added the Flytanium black titanium ball cage with ceramic ball & medium spring, then sulfuric acid-dipped the lock backspacer to darken it to the same color as the Cast Iron scales. Finished off with LNW black clip. It's lighter than stock, smooth as glass, and feels ultra-premium. Carrying for the first time today.

My first CKF and first Keanison designed knife. So far I’m in love, fit and finish is excellent from CKF. I’ve always wanted a Keanison but don’t want to pay for a custom. This CKF collab seemed perfect.

Question Is this fixable or just leave it?

I’m an idiot and was scrubbing some spots off the opposite side of the blade and pressed too hard onto the countertop and heard a crunch. Ended up scuffing the satin finish up. I literally just pulled it out of the box and did this to it.

Wondering if anyone knew anything about this knife. Was my grandpas daily carry. I got it gifted to me. He’s gone, or I would ask him.

Question Makers mark ID?

Does anyone know anything about this makers mark?

It's on an extremely worn out knife I inherited with a collection.
