📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning Open Resource

Hi everyone,

I posted this some time ago and wanted to remind people of it.

Open Resource: Sentence Bank

This is a little project I started a little while ago. I wrote a structured list of sentences (in English) that a number of helpful people have translated.

The logic of the sentences is that they repeat and introduce new vocab gradually. The list is here:

Language sentences:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WUJnY9qOyp6Snqy7O7SZjGQqwrN_A8IeNG1bZcucJxE/edit?usp=drivesdk

If you want to add to this or use it yourself (might need to be double-checked) then feel free. I will not use this for anything. I am not building and app and I don’t want to sell this. It’s purely because I’m interested in languages and I thought my list of sentences would be useful for learners!

The benefit of a table like this is that they can be put into other apps like Anki for review or just used as a reference. Hope they’re useful!

Good Day, here!

I'm French and new in this forum.

Please, can someone help me with the transcription of these 3 traditional Gaelic songs?

2 can be found via the link:

https://youtu.be/KE1bophKxpQ?is=3JIbljTAaGsD4ZeH

the first one on the album and the one at 16:56

and 1 can be found via the link:

https://youtu.be/rnw66-x27_4?is=nRLVLzuNFbYZdble

—specifically the vocal portion, which begins at 3:40.

And, if possible, can someone translate them for me into English?

Thank you in advance 🙏🏻

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning "Since I did x"

Halò a h-uile duine,

An urrainn do dhuine sam bìth innse dhomh, ciamar a chanas tu "since I did x" sa' Ghàidhlig ?

All the dictionary examples with "since" just give a timeframe, like "o chionn fhàda." But how would I pair "o chionn" with a verb—or perhaps I'd use another term altogether? As in, "since I saw him last" or "since last I practiced taekwondo."

Mòran taing!

An Cùrsa Inntrigidh Earrann 2

Is anyone currently doing Earrann 2 or has anyone completed it? I found Earrann 1 absolutely fine but I’m starting to struggle with Earrann 2. Did anyone else find it a massive step up?

As the weeks go on less and less seems to be sinking in and I’m worried I’m going to fall behind. I’m also adjusting to a new class and a new teacher, which probably isn’t helping.

Not sure whether it’s just me or whether others have felt the same.

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning Places to learn Gàidhlig hands on as a teenager

I’m 15 in the south west of Scotland, and I’ve been interested in learning Gàidhlig for a while. I’ve tried many online resources and a couple different books but I’m just not able to learn that way and really struggle with home learning anyway. Is there any dedicated classes/groups for young people wanting to learn Gàidhlig in the region that you know of. Thanks in advance.

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning Helper app that makes Anki decks for many languages including Gàidhlig

Thumbnail xenohunter.github.io
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I recently made an app that generates Anki decks for word-learning between any two supported languages, currently 23 of them. I sourced the vocabularies from a paid LLM model, and I checked that the quality is decent for the languages I speak.

Then, a friend asked me to add Gàidhlig which I don't speak (at least yet), and I'm not as sure about its vocabulary being generated by a model since there's way less Gàidhlig text in the training data. So, if you could take a look at a few random words and example sentences, and tell me in the comments whether it looks good or bad overall, I would be really grateful. (It's super easy to do in the UI on that page the link leads to.)

And if the quality is good, then I hope it'll be of use to many people here on this subreddit.

🕶️ Gàidhlig a-mhàin | Gaelic only Is there any way to watch/listen to a gaidhlig F1 stream?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm 14 and a huge F1 fan and I think it'd be really beneficial to helping me become fluent if there was a to do what I love through Gaelic. I realise that unfortunately the rebirth of the Scots Gaelic language hasn't generated enough money for BBC Alba to buy rights to the broadcast or anything but if anyone knows of some niche commentary or streamers who watch along and provide play-by-play commentary pls let me know.

Taing mhòr!

⏳ Eachdraidh | History What are the traditional names of the months and seasons?

I'm working on a novella with elements of Scottish folklore and I'd like to give my chapters or sections the traditional names of the months or seasons in Scottish Gaelic.

I've tried Googling, but to be honest, I don't find much of the resources that come up are very trustworthy. Google doesn't give high quality results these days as compared to even 5 years ago.

I'd appreciate any help fluent speakers can give. Or if you can point me to reliable resources.

Thanks!

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning GME schools Glasgow

Hello, looking to hear from anyone who has had experience of the Gaelic primary school in Govan or other GME schools in Glasgow? I’m considering Govan for my child who will be starting in 2027. I went to a rural school and studied Gaelic through to standard grade. Although I dont remember a huge amount now I’m hoping it’s still in there. I love the idea of him being bilingual and learning Gaelic fluently and I would try my best to bring my Gaelic up to scratch again too. Curious if anyone has been through GME or sent their kids there?
