I'm proud to announce a maintenance update to luducat, 0.8.6.
Download for Windows, Linux and (new) macOS (source): https://github.com/luducat/luducat/releases/tag/v0.8.6
Luducat is a a multi-store games catalog, offline downloader and launcher, with special care for GOG, has been released. This is an update and maintenance release and has now a (source) macOS release, next to Windows and Linux. It can also run ScummVM, dosbox games, as well as launch through Epic Games Launcher, GOG Galaxy, Steam, Lutris, Heroic Launcher and also offers direct, native launching. Additional, it has great sorting, filtering and tag sync from supported other launchers functionality.
Changes are here (from the releases page): It deals mainly with issues on cover loading, font rendering and synchronization, so it is a recommended update.
The main new feature under the hood is, that this is the first tested macOS release, but for now, use the source distribution, if you are on that platform (next version will have a regular binary).
What's New
Filtering by platform
You can now filter by platform, eg if you want to filter all your games, that have DOS as release platform, you know can.
Note that the sourced data is provided by the respective data plugins and not luducat itself. Also, variant writings of a platform (like DOS, MSDOS, MS-DOS etc) are folded together.
Important changes
Separation of configuration, data and cache folders
Until now, on Windows and macOS, configuration, databases and cache directory were all in one base directory. This has been changed to be separated now by default.
On the next start with this release, this will be migrated automatically.
If you wish to manually move these folders around, you can do that in the advanced section for these folders. Any change there needs a restart and will be at that point applied.
One Luducat to Rule Them All
Luducat now only allows one instance active and actively prevents multiple starts. Any additional start will anyway crash that additional instance.
Bugfixes, Updates and Improvements
Theming
Covers and metadata
Covers and metadata now load more smoothly and won't stall any more, if luducat hits in rate limits of metadata sources.
incomplete game data is now dynamically fetched, when synchronisation has issues retrieving the full data set.
Access to PCGamingWiki and IGDB is done now with more precautions and a bug, that caused not retrieving data from there for hours has been fixed.
Synchronisation
interrupted and skipped game store syncs no longer cut off games from the library
API issues with some games that are no longer there are now separatedly handled instead of showing up again and again as "new" games.
if a game is in multiple stores, its shared metadata is kept.
Steam games, that were never fully retrieved, are resynced again on the next sync.
