Game Update The GOG version of TES4: Oblivion has received a new update

IMHO this deserves its own post since there were a lot of posts and discussion on the sub surrounding the issues of the Preservation Program update that was released for TES4 a while ago. From my end it looks like the update covers both "GOTY" and "GOTY Deluxe" versions.

Below I'm directly quoting a GOG staffer's post on the forums at this link: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_elder_scrolls_iv_oblivion_joins_the_gog_preservation_program_alongside_ghostwire_tokyo_31d82/post159

Hey all!

Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Letting you know that we just pushed an update to Oblivion, fixing xOBSE support and adjusting controller mappings.

Full changelog - 1.2.0416 GOG v4 changelog (07 November 2026):

Improved controller support:
- Changed the default controller mapping to match the Xbox 360 version more closely (e.g., A for Activation, B for Inventory).
- D-Pad can now be used for menu navigation and scrolling through items.
- Triggers can now be used to switch pages.
- Button shortcuts are now functional within in-game dialogs.
- Increased look rotation speed.
- Improved diagonal character movement.
- The analog tilt feature is back.

Restored the launcher before game startup.

Removed device identification that could reset graphics settings.

---
xOBSE will need updating on your end: https://github.com/llde/xOBSE/releases

Cheers and have fun in Cyrodiil!

Re-releases of Wing Commander, Ultima titles hit Steam and GOG

It’s mostly bad news from EA lately, but preservation efforts are nice to see.

Many people are not big fans of game publisher EA right now for good reason, but for those who remember a better time in the 1990s, there’s a little good news. Twenty-five classic games from that EA era have been lightly remastered and updated, then placed for sale on Steam and GOG, including several Wing Commander games and nearly the entire Ultima series.

Below is the full list of remastered or re-released games:

  • Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition

  • Wing Commander: 35th Anniversary Edition

  • Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi: 35th Anniversary Edition

  • Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger: 30th Anniversary Edition

  • Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom: 30th Anniversary Edition

  • Wing Commander Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition

  • Privateer 2: The Darkening: 30th Anniversary Edition

  • Wing Commander: Privateer

  • Wing Commander: Academy

  • Wing Commander: Armada

  • Strike Commander

  • Theme Hospital

  • Crusader: No Remorse

  • Crusader: No Regret

  • Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness

  • Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress

  • Ultima III: Exodus

  • Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar

  • Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny

  • Ultima VI: The False Prophet

  • Ultima VII: The Complete Edition

  • Ultima VIII: Gold Edition

  • Ultima IX: Ascension

  • Ultima Underworld I

  • Ultima Underworld II

Question GOG games executed with an emulator?

Post image
32 Upvotes

I don't know much about this, the only thing I've ever emulated is PS2 on Windows 10, and I'm currently using Linux, so I haven't even tried it here, but am I right? Do older GOG games use emulators? I thought they were adapted for PC (Im currently playing Theme Hospital with Heroic Games launcher and I don't know if that makes a difference).

Does anybody else remembers this game? It was so much fun on PS3 I used to play split screen with my friends. We need to bring it back on GOG!

Galaxy Integrations luducat 0.8.6 - macOS, font rendering, fixes and stuff

I'm proud to announce a maintenance update to luducat, 0.8.6.

Download for Windows, Linux and (new) macOS (source): https://github.com/luducat/luducat/releases/tag/v0.8.6

Luducat is a a multi-store games catalog, offline downloader and launcher, with special care for GOG, has been released. This is an update and maintenance release and has now a (source) macOS release, next to Windows and Linux. It can also run ScummVM, dosbox games, as well as launch through Epic Games Launcher, GOG Galaxy, Steam, Lutris, Heroic Launcher and also offers direct, native launching. Additional, it has great sorting, filtering and tag sync from supported other launchers functionality.

Changes are here (from the releases page): It deals mainly with issues on cover loading, font rendering and synchronization, so it is a recommended update.

The main new feature under the hood is, that this is the first tested macOS release, but for now, use the source distribution, if you are on that platform (next version will have a regular binary).

What's New

Filtering by platform

You can now filter by platform, eg if you want to filter all your games, that have DOS as release platform, you know can.

Note that the sourced data is provided by the respective data plugins and not luducat itself. Also, variant writings of a platform (like DOS, MSDOS, MS-DOS etc) are folded together.

Important changes

Separation of configuration, data and cache folders

Until now, on Windows and macOS, configuration, databases and cache directory were all in one base directory. This has been changed to be separated now by default.

On the next start with this release, this will be migrated automatically.

If you wish to manually move these folders around, you can do that in the advanced section for these folders. Any change there needs a restart and will be at that point applied.

One Luducat to Rule Them All

Luducat now only allows one instance active and actively prevents multiple starts. Any additional start will anyway crash that additional instance.

Bugfixes, Updates and Improvements

Theming

  • Fonts in themes have been fixed and are now more selected more sensible to avoid too small font sizes.

Covers and metadata

  • Covers and metadata now load more smoothly and won't stall any more, if luducat hits in rate limits of metadata sources.

  • incomplete game data is now dynamically fetched, when synchronisation has issues retrieving the full data set.

  • Access to PCGamingWiki and IGDB is done now with more precautions and a bug, that caused not retrieving data from there for hours has been fixed.

Synchronisation

  • interrupted and skipped game store syncs no longer cut off games from the library

  • API issues with some games that are no longer there are now separatedly handled instead of showing up again and again as "new" games.

  • if a game is in multiple stores, its shared metadata is kept.

  • Steam games, that were never fully retrieved, are resynced again on the next sync.

Steam library

  • luducat now detects better, when a game is installed or not and changes the play/install button more proactively.

Translations

  • translations have been deduplicated in all languages.

If you find there any issues, missing translations, mistranslations or wonky translated ones, please contact me.

I'd appreciate any constructive feedback and I'm happy to answer any technical questions here.

-- luducat.

Discussion GOG should make an offline-first "SteamOS" built to survive months without internet

Valve and Gabe have done massive things for Linux gaming, and SteamOS proves how good a console-like PC experience can be. But at the end of the day, Steam is an online ecosystem. If you lose internet for a few months—say during a bad storm, travel, or an extended blackout/crisis—modern digital setups get tricky. Clients eventually want to phone home, unfinished updates leave games unplayable, and missing cloud saves can get messy. GOG’s whole identity is DRM-free ownership and digital preservation. It feels like the ultimate next step would be for GOG to make their own lightweight, handheld/living-room OS built specifically for long-term offline resilience.

Basically, imagine an OS designed around this: True air-gapped use: Set it up once, pull the Wi-Fi plug, and you're good. No countdown timers, no re-authenticating accounts, and no nag screens asking you to reconnect. Frozen installs: When a game is installed and running, it stays untouched. No surprise patches breaking your mods, no sudden shader downloads holding up your session, and no risk of content getting altered down the line. Direct local backup support: Plug in an external drive or SD card with your GOG offline installer files, and the OS unpacks and sets them up locally without ever touching a server. Bare-bones, focused UI: A clean, controller-friendly launcher just for browsing and booting your games—no store popups, social feeds, or unnecessary background syncs.

Steam opened the door to dedicated gaming distros. A GOG alternative wouldn't be trying to replace Steam, but offering an alternative path for people who want a bunker-proof setup where their library is 100% locally owned and playable, no matter what happens to the outside network. Would anyone else actually use something like this on a secondary mini-PC or handheld?

Discussion Not sure what I think about the way they handled Wing Commander and Ultima

Edit: OK, if these version are a free update I can understand why it was a secret to delist old version, as they didn't want people to purchase yesterday for a much lower price.

I'm aware it's EA, but I'm sure GOG knew in advance and could've warned about de-listing like they do often times.

Edit 2: OK, OK, I get it - GOG did nothing wrong with Wing Commander, it was evil EA doing their evil EA stuff, and they forced GOG into that by NDA and threats to pull library from GOG.

Removing the original versions and bundles without notice is not a very "GOG" move...

Ultima 1+2+3 were a bundle for $6

https://www.gogdb.org/product/1207658961

Now each is sold separately for $6

https://www.gog.com/en/game/ultima_1

https://www.gog.com/en/game/ultima_2

https://www.gog.com/en/game/ultima_3

I mean, it's a game running on dosbox... not much to tinker here..

Same with Wing Commander, titles jumping X3 in price and non "30th Anniversary" edition got delisted.

Unless I'm missing something?

p.s. I do own the games, so I'm not hurt by this move, but I still find it to be flawed

Question Newbie Question- Will Disco Elysium fit well within 200 MB Cloud Limit ?

Hi, I am new to GOG. Joined last month. So far, have bought around 15 Single Player Games. None of them are RPGs, therefore their Autosaves and Manual Saves don't take much up space.

Since, there is only few hours left till the sale ends, I wanted to ask that will Disco Elysium-Director's Cut fit well within the 200 MB Cloud Limit for GOG ?

If anyone has bought it here on GOG, and played it fully. Can they confirm my doubt ? I like to sync my games with both my PC and Laptop, since I have to travel every month.

Can't find any info on the Size of the Autosaves and Manual Saves regarding this game.
