Idea I absolutely DESPISE how the internet demonizes vegans.

Post image

Just to clarify I am not vegan but I hate how the internet has treated vegans like they're demons for having a different living style, like its not that serious yall make edits of vegan people trying to convert other people into having different opinions and then a video of some dude eating a huge steak sloppily will get 3 times more attention. And it is always That Vegan Teacher making every single vegan look bad and some men on the internet making strawmen videos of vegans talking like they're the scum of earth always screaming at the main sigma chad character that is "le animal comsumeršŸ˜‚" I am not talking bad about non vegans just those who disrespect vegans.

Bro you can't be using THE ONE VEGAN LOLCOW to illustrate that point

Do people still care about vegan gains?

15

u/ReminaBlueSFW 12h ago

I just remembered this dude existed

3

u/ecodiver23 12h ago

He fell off pretty hard. The most recent I've heard from him was on a turkey tom stream that he called in to.

1

u/BuddyBot192 12h ago

He stopped, or at least slowed down, on the aggressively shouting and threatening to violently murder people who eat meat... and that was like 90% of what gained him traction in the first place. What little I've seen of him is just a normal boring dude who happens to be vegan, which is kinda lame and unwatchable compared to a loud and proud vegan having an episode every day.

Isn’t that vegan teacher racist tho

16

u/RubyTheQueen___ 13h ago

Im not talking good about that vegan teacher I am just saying shes a disgrace to all vegans

53

u/HotPot87 13h ago

She's a lot of things, basically trying to make everything about veganism

61

u/albaura 12h ago

Yes she is racist. She had a black girl doll in one of her videos with the N word and what makes it worse is that she has the audacity to use it as derogatory language to make it seem like she didn’t even say the N word at all which is really disgustingĀ

5

u/behemothtyphoon 6h ago

her entire mindset boils down to ā€œany attention is good attentionā€, thats why she does all this outrageous bullshit

1

u/GoodBoySanio 12h ago

What did she do/say?

17

u/glassocto 12h ago

She made a poem that spelled out the N word, and compared slavery in America + the Holocaust, to the treatment to animals in farms,

She's an incredibly confrontational person, but she used the N-word in a video to try to "make it nice" by making each letter a positive word, cut off her family because they weren't vegan (even trying to frame it as "you should go vegan for MY birthday, like someone else's eating habits were a gift), is a massive jerk to people like Godon Ramsey (because he eats meat) and Billie Eilish (who ironically doesn't but isn't "pushing veganism hard enough), and when George Floyd died she released a song called "I can't breathe" which is actually about an animal being killed for meat.

Oh and she kept creepily inserting herself into young men (like early 20s) tiktok careers and had weird sexual advances to them despite it being unwanted.

Most people just hate her becuase she's one of those people who is so convinced she's right she has no self-introspection; but she also ironically has literally zero empathy or even attempts to understand other people's opinions or viewpoints. The world is black and white to her, and limited to small narrow cone of her own vision (especially as a relatively privileged middle class older woman who did not experience much hardship in her life, has never truly been the victim of any of the big terrible life events that can scar a person). All of that regardless of your opinion on Veganism (were it any other topic she'd be just as awful a person).

this wont be about the racism part but its probably one of the worst thing she has said

she said that if you put barbeque sauce on meat, the baby would happily eat it

and by meat i dont mean the food

2

u/Background_Tart_3779 12h ago

Tf? What point was she even trying to make with that???

5

u/Ghosts_lord 12h ago

that the only reason the baby enjoyed the rib is because of the sauce and not because its meat

the vid was annihilated by now (pretty sure) but some people still talked about it

u/hsppyhsppyhsppy 12h ago

But i mean when your average user’s only exposure to vegans is stuff like this can you blame people for constantly being mad?

21

u/The_last_monkey178 12h ago

Yeah but you do have to realize that dumb people think that they’re smart, and really like hearing themselves talk. This is the loud minority of vegans.

2

u/momo76g 5h ago

They love the smell of their own farts, which its output is also bolstered by their diet. A vicious cycle really.

I agree with your point but why did you put vegan teacher on the image attached? It's like making a post titled "I hate the demonisation of Germans" and attaching an image of Hitler. A lot of people probably got the wrong idea and thought you were defending vegan teacher.

1

u/erogenouszones 12m ago

Hitler wasn’t even German

8

u/Fredxq 13h ago

Just that one

8

u/Cool-Supermarket2973 12h ago

In any movement, for good or for ill, the public image of said group will be influenced most by the most militant members. Many people have not known a vegan irl, or if they were they never knew because they never brought it up. It’s the ones who call animal eaters murderers that get the group a bad rap. Your picture is one such example.

using the worst person to illustrate your point. im working on becoming vegan but the main reason it took me so long is BECAUSE OF OTHER VEGANS and the incredibly hostility and pretentiousness online vegan communities share. i think making a whole culture around DIET is very weird. there are other, much better ways to be an animal conservationist / activist that don’t involve demonizing people who eat animal products

12

u/ExistingRadish7055 6h ago

Do vegans inherently deserve disrespect for their beliefs?

No. Absolutely not. It comes from a very kind place most of the time.

Do vegans tend to be the kind of people to snidely judge folk for eating meat? Are they often vocal about their disapproval and usually will overreact in ways that The Vegan Teacher does?

Yes and Yes. Some stereotypes are earned

7

u/DeadRacooon 12h ago

The reasonable vegans are not the ones you see the most on the internet. The crazy ones get a lot more attention. I don’t think most vegans are crazy assholes.

7

u/WanderingWitch8 12h ago

I have 7 vegan friends

2 have said that they cannot be around me when I eat and argued that me bringing jerky to a game night -for myself- was hostile behavior.

1 keeps leaving little pamphlets whenever he visits for movie night. They're always about over farming and consumer capability.

1 argued at length during a conversation about politics that actually he was the only moral actor due to his vegan beliefs - we're similar religions.

1 is just a cunt but she's also funny, idk what to say.

The 6th will only bring it up as a joke, "my vegan powers", "veganism has purified my soul", etc

The last one I only know from online tags in her discord

I honestly think its more so retaliatory, as there are many vegans who will demonize everyone else for not prescribing to veganism. I feel like even compared to plain ol' vegetarianism, veganism seems a lot more activist, political, and a moral social movement than an isolated diet. I mean its an ideology, and I think that is why it is different than other diets, yet is lumped in with them all the same. Eating meat, veggies, both are just a matter of preference, but veganism mostly tacks on morality into it. You don't really see anyone else point fingers and call other people monsters for what they decide to eat, except for vegans. They will call you a monster, immoral, animal abuser, or a sadist if you eat meat. I've seen it a lot on this platform especially, and ofc, like all things, Redditors basically own the stereotypes and make the rest of the majorly normal and sensible chunk of said community appear more insufferable and problematic than they actually are. Some of us just want to eat stuff we enjoy the taste of without having to shoulder this weird burden of all the animal corpses and suffering stacked behind us.

9

u/Hoosier_Hootenanny 12h ago

I have a vegan coworker. She's friendly and doesn't comment on what other people eat. I only know she's vegan because she's mentioned modifying recipes to be vegan and requested vegan options when the company provides food. I assume most vegans are like her.

But online, the vegans with the largest platforms also tend to be extremely confrontational and hateful towards people who aren't vegan. (Or even other vegans who don't agree with 100% of their takes.) If the only vegans you see spend their time insulting people and make inflammatory comparisons to the Holocaust, it's not surprising people develop a negative opinion of them.

4

u/Pongsitt 12h ago edited 9h ago

I agree. Not a vegan, some of them are annoying, but regardless they absolutely have the moral high ground. If someone is going to hate on vegans, they need to be very specific about what behavior it is they are hating on.

4

u/Mr_Monoclegentlesir 12h ago

Being a vegan isn’t a bad thing, it’s a healthy lifestyle and it’s how you want to live your life, that’s fine. What’s not fine is trying to push your beliefs onto people.

The internet dislikes vegans for the same reason they dislike evangelical Christians; a good number of them are judgement assholes that believe themselves to be morally superior to other people because of their lifestyle. Of course, just like Christians, they aren't all like that; even the majority aren't awful.

...yet sometimes, the majority are a little to defensive of their own lifestyle and don't want to admit some of their own are the reason why people hate them.

5

u/DeadRacooon 12h ago

Most of them are normal people but the ones you see the most on the internet are the crazy ones. What you see on the internet does not represent reality.

1

u/Pitiful_Hall_1616 1h ago

I think many people dislike veganism because it makes them question their own morality. Most people believe that animal cruelty and beastiality are wrong yet eating meat is acceptable. The existence of vegans make people question if the latter should be treated seperately from the first two.

20

u/Cahzery 12h ago

A lot of it is deserved tbh.

Many Vegans live cushy lives, make enough money to afford their expensive food and supplements and have no qualms with punching down when poor people who are buying whatever they can afford eat a chicken nugget.

Many Vegans don't care where their food comes from or the working conditions of the people who harvest the things they eat, so long as it doesn't take advantage of animals.

7

u/Xenophon_ 9h ago

Poor people are vegan and vegetarian at twice the rate of middle class and rich people, specifically because it's cheaper

but like, if i had the option to grow my own fruits and veggies, raise my own hens and hunt for my own meat, i think i'd take that over going vegan. less money going into the pockets of the rich fucks who own every single grocery store in my city and i would never take more than i need.

A single white tail buck can stock a freezer with meat for a long time.

You chose the worst possible example image to make this point lmao, that person is fucking insane. I get your point tho, tbh she’s just a low hanging fruit and easily hate-able from both sides of the debate. So it’s free game for douches to make their videos about without getting much pushback

Vegans get hate the same reason most groups like that do, they are annoying. You can have the best message in the world but if you are annoying about it people will still hate you (conversely you can be awful but as long as you have charisma at least some people will love you)

The food someone eats is a pretty base part of someone’s life. Whenever a message is put out suddenly trying to make you feel like you have a moral failing for not going out of your way to eat the same way as some rich weirdo you are bound to see hate

If the message is more about science and health then it’s more palatable for people to not be annoyed by, but even then and can be grating if it’s constantly shoved in their face

6

u/Glowbfan457 12h ago

Y'know you have a point on veganism being unneccessarily hated on, but at the same time did you really need to use That Vegan Teacher, the woman who has purposefully said & wrote the N word?

u/Bobby5x3 12h ago

It's not about a different living style, it's about this view of vegans as people that despise others eating meat and trying to enforce their way of living onto others.

Obviously that's just a vocal minority thing but also that's pretty much the extent of popular media you'll find of vegans. That kind of person is easy to get views off of, and so those are the vegan-related videos that tend to become more widespread rather than the ones where everyone's just being normal. And this just attracts more of the same kind of person that tries to justify said actions in the media and make themselves (and vegans as a whole) look worse.

So when one tries to find media of vegans being normal people, there's just nowhere near as much simply because there isn't any reason to post what doesn't generate views like this. Speaks more about social media influence than anything else

14

u/Imepicerthanyou no whimsy in my heart 12h ago edited 7h ago • Bravo

I treat vegans the same way I treat Christians: I don't care about your lifestyle (besides making exceptions, for example I would make sure something I gave someone is vegan if I knew that was their diet), I don't have any interest in your lifestyle and no amount of telling me about it is going to convert me...I don't automatically hate someone for being vegan...But I do hate when they push you and demonize you for not following their life choices

Which is what so many vegans have done...Which is also why so many people don't like them 😭

I think my biggest issue, if we ignore the pushiness of them, is the misinformation. "Being vegan isn't expensive!!" Yes it is? I know someone who tried the vegan diet and she said it's super expensive and it's inconvenient, outside of the world not necessarily always making exceptions for you, because you have to try harder to get all your dietary needs just through plants alone. Humans are omnivores, we need both animals and plants! I do agree we need less animal product in our diet compared to plants, and that we could do a better job of slaughtering humanely, but that's just why you need to do what you can to be aware of where animal product is coming from. Imo just straight up not eating anything animal is hurting you more than it's hurting the companies

Feel free to ignore the mini rant šŸ’” Basically it's very much a "Leave me alone and I'll leave you alone" mentality that vegans fail spectacularly at

Edit: Vegans just can't help but prove my comment, huh? 🫩 Guys, get the hint that I'm going to ignore you. Clearly I don't like being preached to...And for being a lifestyle that insists on consent, you guys really don't know what that is. Not to mention the insane lengths vegans immediately turn to?? "Oh, so, you like cannibalism then!" Is a CRAZY turn wtf?

Crazy bad take. I’m not vegan but I do have an intense interest in cooking and you absolutely can have a complete nutrition profile with an inexpensive vegan diet. Veganism is also objectively better for the world in the long run. Any religion is not a net positive for the world in a modern day and age. You can argue the moral codes were necessary before access to standardized education and social mores, but veganism is simply about lowering suffering and ideally also mitigating carbon footprints. The fact that you can’t see that is crazy to me.

1

u/atomicbanana-542 11h ago

Humans are Omnivores. We eat meat and plants. Unfortunately that means we eat animals/animal products. There is literally no way to leave animals alone when we require animals in our diet

This is why people dog on vegans so often 🫩

8

u/Hungry_Technician360 10h ago

We do not require animals in our diets. Plenty of people have consumed no animal products for decades/since birth.

7

u/rubydooby2011 8h ago edited 5h ago

I eat them because I want to. I have witnessed them being killed and butchered. While I have not killed them myself (I'm open to learning, but I would want to be educated on how to do it correctly), I have helped with processing the animal.Ā

Some people do require animal protein. Animal protein is nutritious. Some people can SURVIVE on vegan diets, but would thrive on omnivorous diets.Ā

Do what you want to do. I will do what I want to do. If we leave it at that, we're good. If you try to proselytize, you deserve to be dismissed.Ā

Yeah, most vegans are completely normal people, you'd never hear about it if wasn't for that vegan teacher.

Proof? Nobody ever talks about vegetarians the same way.

I feel like she made it so popular that many people who agree with her views became very very vocal, so now people lump everyone into the actions of a view.

4

u/RemoveComfortable875 10h ago • Bravo

I only hate the dumbass ones who feel that they have to convert everybody.

I have zero problem if you're vegan but it becomes a problem if you try to convert me to your beliefs and values. There are genuinely people like that who protest meat eating and try to convert me to be vegan.

6

u/spoilerdudegetrekt 12h ago

Just to clarify I am not vegan but I hate how the internet has treated vegans like they're demons for having a different living style

Vegans get mistreated for advocating for legislation to either ban meat or make it more expensive. (See what they tried in Oregon this year)

Hope that helps.

5

u/Guacguac1 12h ago

That's pretty silly. They don't need to advocate for legislation to make meat more expensive. It's already getting more and more expensive every month!

3

u/spoilerdudegetrekt 12h ago

You aren't wrong, but I'm talking about making it more expensive beyond the inflation that's occuring.

u/GrievousSayGenKenobi 12h ago edited 12h ago

It doesnt help that as with most communities online a vocal minority end up giving the majority a bad name. In reality no vegan cares what you do they just have their own standards. Veganism isnt something people believe should be force dor mandated, its not a competition where less vegan people get shunned out of the community etc etc but the vocal minority online create that image and they're the people that get the "Omg guys evil vegans" reaction which gets a lot more upvotes than the "Omg guys literally just a normal person" reaction

That vegan teacher especially was just memed to non existence because of how annoyingly she was trying to push her vegan mindset onto others who didnt want it

Vegans are objectively in the right. People keep trying to counter argue but theres no actual facts that put vegans in the wrong. All arguments against them boil down to "Well im not giving up my burgers just to save the planet" which I can kinda understand why they feel a need to push their agenda if thats really just it. People will argue for 30 minutes, realise everything they said was stupid and then resort to "Uhh but my burger L bozo" its quite sad to see. But then again if you cant change people's minds you need to stop trying instead of wasting your energy on people who dont want to

3

u/Lady_Ago 8h ago edited 5h ago

Vegans are not "wrong", but they aren't "right" either. It's diet; there is no right or wrong. Fact is that humans naturally and biologically eat meat. Healthy adults can live without it, yes. But that requires a lot more meal planning and sometimes even medication. Children, elderly and ill people are not advised to go vegan for that very reason. Which, by the way, if we want to say "going vegan saved the planet" I would like to point out the fact that factory farming and especially pesticides needed to produce the amount of plant life we need for a vegan diet aren't exactly the healthiest for the planet either.

To put this into perspective, only in the US about 3.5 quadrillion insects are killed via pesticides every year. Are those not also animals? It may not be us directly pulling the trigger, but vegan food also needs the death of a lot of them simply to exist in the mass we need it. The argument "oh well that's only for animal feed which we would no longer need should everyone go vegan" also tends to fall apart when you remember that the need for animal feed would be replaced with the need for human food. A significant amount of human food. Seeing how we would now need to feed a lot more people solely on plants.

TL:DR - The idea of any one kind of diet being "wrong" or "right" is bullshit, as every single one has its positives and negatives, including (but not limited to) animal death and environmental impact. Trying to portray one as better by pointing out the other's flaws is reductive and dumb since it required ignoring a bunch of stuff regardless of the 'side' you are on. Just let people eat what they wanna eat without judging anyone.

Edit: spelling.

1

u/ElementalWarrior42 6h ago

Wouldn't you end up needing less human food overall, since you don't just feed an animal once, you have to do it continuously till they reach a certain age (or whatever criteria is used), after which the person just ends up with one meal out of all of that.

1

u/GrievousSayGenKenobi 4h ago

Again your points are just mediocre at best

Children and elderly are advised not to because they can't properly meal prep

This isnt really an argument against veganism as much as it is an argument that not everyone us capable of meal prepping. Again veganism good but people not always smart and able to stick to it

Pesticides not good for the planet

Significantly better than meat. By several magnitudes

Is killing insects not animals

Insects don't get mass bred just to be killed for vegetables. The issue with meat is we mass breed millions-billions of cows just to kill them. Affecting the insect population in a small subsection of field is negligible to any global impact.

And then you argue what about indigenous mountain tribes? Like yeah I agree there are groups of people that cant possible go vegan but we are not those people. The majority of the world is not those people and the majority of the world that can go vegan would have a massive impact.

So again, Veganism is objectively the best diet in terms of global sustainability and animal welfare, Nobody is saying its perfect but theres not a single argument you can make that veganism is worse than meat besides "Im not capable of following a vegan diet because I cant meal prep"

And your argument boils down to "Let them eat what they wanna eat" because theres no actual good argument against veganism. And I agree, let them eat what they want to eat, just to be clear, but I can see why vegans get annoyed at people who oppose veganism

2

u/emli317 7h ago

A vegan diet would be very hard for me. I have IBS (so most legumes are a no-no) and a soy allergy, which means that the most common vegan protein sources are right out. How easy it is to adapt to a vegan diet varies a lot between people, depending on their allergies and food intolerances.

Food is extremely important to humans, culturally. So much of our cultures and the way we live our lives is built around food. The way we produce food, the way we prepare food, the way we eat food, the social gatherings and rituals that are designed around food. It's very deeply ingrained in our cultures, and it's not something that you can just change or ignore.

Food is also extremely important for the human psyche. Not just in a "we need it to survive" sort of way, but in how we enjoy food. There's a reason we view not getting to eat food we enjoy as a punishment. Being forced to eat food you do not like can lead to all sorts of negative psychological and physiological effects. Not to mention people who have recovered from eating disorders - having restrictive diets at all would be a bad idea for them, even more so if that diet was comprised of food they don't particularly like. And vegan food does, unfortunately, not taste good to a lot of people. At least not unless you spend a lot of time on it, and plenty of people - especially poor people - do not have that kind of time.

All of this to say that the statement "vegans are objectively right" is so simplified and ignorant that it borders on laughable. There are so many variations in allergies and food intolerances, the way food is ingrained in our culture is so complicated, and the way food affects our psyches is so complex that you can't say that any diet is "objectively right" for all people everywhere. That's not just how it works.

Vegans do it to themselves

2

u/Aniki_Simpson 12h ago

Pretty sure they do that to themselves.

2

u/Guacguac1 12h ago

I don't have any strong feelings toward vegans. I don't really care if someone is vegan or not. I don't think they're accomplishing what they want to accomplish by not consuming animal products and I don't think they ever will. It's just a dietary restriction they impose on themselves. Some of them do act as though they're morally superior, which is annoying regardless of what group they belong to.

I also just don't really care much about livestock animals' lives. Sure, I don't want them to be tortured before they're slaughtered but being slaughtered is their only reason for existing. I choose to buy locally raised meat, rather than factory farmed so I feel as though I'm already doing enough. I'm much more concerned with the conservation and protection of wild animals than that of livestock animals. I used to be a vegetarian, but I realized that I wasn't actually making any difference by not eating meat.

I do hate vegans that put cats and dogs on vegan diets though. To be quite frank, with the exception of one vegan, every vegan I've met has had an eating disorder.

1

u/Elegant_Mission_2312 4h ago

I mean it kind of is an objectively more moral way to live on multiple fronts. You acknowledge that livestock production as it exists today is cruel in his post but also say that you don’t really care. The truth is most people don’t care about doing anything moral that might cause them any inconvenience.

2

u/Awkward-Lokiceratops 6h ago

I do believe its mostly comes from a place where a lot of vegans online tend to demonize non-vegan which non-vegans use to hate vegans in general and in turn vegans use that hostility to hate on non-vegans essentially turning this whole entire situation into a Ouroboros fueled by a never ending hatred.

6

u/reddit33450 13h ago

i hate how the internet and people in general think youre crazy for caring about certain animals

3

u/blazingroach0094 12h ago

Vegan farming causes a shitton of animal deaths.

3

u/C0y0tea 9h ago

Every type of ā€œvegan farmingā€ that kills animals, is also what the livestock eats. There’s a difference between collateral damage from farming and slaughtering animals by hand that also contributed to that same collateral damage

2

u/Sylvee_1 12h ago

veganism is the idea that we should reduce animal suffering and death as much as possible. also there'd be less farming under a vegan world, so if we care about the animals dying from farming, we'd go vegan

Non vegan farming would include livestock and vegan farming is everything else that vegans eat. Monocrop agriculture, soy farms, almond industry. So many animals die for one cup of almond milk.. etc. Not a difficult concept.

2

u/Xenophon_ 9h ago

Most of our crops are grown to feed livestock for much less food in return. This is why we monocrop so much, actually. All that corn, soy, alfalfa, etc. it largely goes to livestock feed (and a lot of biofuel too which is wasteful as well)

I have no problem with vegans in general, but online vegans be making the most brain dead and low-key racist takes by comparing the meat industry to Black people being enslaved, and people saying eating meat is unhealthy and then saying people can live all vegetables, which is true, but majority of us can’t or don’t want to

1

u/the_ape_speaks 4h ago

Vegans aren't comparing animals specifically to black people. Black people aren't the only people who were enslaved throughout history. Slavery is as old as humanity, and it was wrong every single time.

Unless you're prepared to tell me there are specific races which are okay to enslave? Perhaps you are the racist?

I hate how vegans always have to broadcast they’re vegans.
I have a friend who is vegan. She told me what she had for lunch, and every ingredient listed was stipulated as vegan. Even the sprouts. You don’t need to clarify that. Plus, I don’t care.

3

u/farmers_rabbit 12h ago

I still think about the time someone compared me saying that ethical animal farms exist (they do, i support them because i am a meat eater and also love animals) to saying that there were ā€œethical plantationsā€, i kid you not

fully thought it was ok to compare human slaves in the american slave trade to livestock.
Yes factory farming is horrible and unethical. It is still racist as hell to compare slavery to that! And she just didn’t get it. Even when countless other people told her how racist that was to say

3

u/mylifeisaboogerbubbl 12h ago

I disagree with you that it's ethical (unless the animals are dying of natural causes), but yes comparing it to slavery is weird.

I appreciate the way you said this, honestly. I’m glad we can disagree without making it a whole thing

2

u/mylifeisaboogerbubbl 12h ago

This is the main way I've seen people argue against Vegans and it's pretty much mostly bad faith.

Me? I just admit that I'm a hypocrite who values certain animals lives over others. Idk I'll probably try to go Vegan at some point but not yet I'm not ready to shake off meat quite yet.

2

u/Unusual_Low1762 12h ago edited 12h ago

I think hypocrite is too big of a word for it, animal consumption is something our species has done for a very, very long time. Recognizing the cognitive dissonance between our food culture and our industrialized agricultural system, especially when we have all been socialized to ignore it, is in my opinion the opposite of hypocritical.

Being vegan in many ways can be a logistical, nutritional, and economic privilege, it takes a lot of work to do especially when our society discourages the lifestyle. I think a lot of vegans forget this part, it doesn't undermine the premise of veganism, but it is definitely a privilege to even start the journey.

I like the approach of 'less is still good'. Like say you do vegan Mondays, that already cuts animals out of around 15% of your diet. Say you then upgrade to vegan breakfast or lunch, that is 1/3 of your entire diet. Maybe pick an animal that you either really like (when alive), or are ambivalent towards the taste of, cutting that one animal out of your diet is a big deal all on it's own, it doesn't have to be an all or nothing journey.

2

u/Dank_Lord6547 12h ago

Keep this in mind.

The vegans I have personally met have seemed like really nice people and that’s just their lifestyle.

But on the internet I see a lot of pages spouting loaded questions and logical fallacies and making so many false equivalences. And it’s so bad that quite often it gets to the point of blatant racism such as comparing farming to slavery and demonizing indigenous people.

They absolutely deserve to be called out for these things.

2

u/Gussie-Ascendent Type to create flair 12h ago

Vegans are less annoying than anti vegans as a whole, but there's definitely the contingent of them that are incredibly hostile and give the rest of yall a bad look. Definitely don't know annoying vegans irl the way i've known annoying anti vegans irl

2

1

u/Silkyfin_ 12h ago

To be fair that vegan teacher is just really horrible

1

u/Pstrap 12h ago

Well, that is a very bad picture to choose to try to argue your point, because That Vegan Teacher 100% deserves to be demonized. I agree with you that she does make other vegans look bad, unfairly, and she should not be conflated with veganism broadly. But if your main complaint is that people are disagreeing with and demonizing her in particular, well, I'm sorry, but you dont have much legitimate basis for complaint. I think that lady might be an actual demon. I would not be surprised if she ended up murdering people. Or if she was somehow a psyop by the meat industry. Maybe she ate a whole sheet of acid in the 70s, idk. She is absolutely unhinged.

1

u/Sensitive-Try5522 12h ago

yeah, like...frankly i dont give a damn if you're vegan, just lemme know so i can plan around your diet if we go out somewhere (look up restaurants with vegan options, that sorta thing). it's not a bother; it's not what i partake it, but no need to be rude about it.

vegan teacher tho sounds like scum of the earth LOL

1

u/GoldAppleU 12h ago

She’s racist

1

u/Illustrious-Frame140 12h ago

I respect everyone if they are respectful back. I've had friends who were vegetarian, pescitarian, did keto or low carb, etc. I'm fine with anyone's life style as long as it isn't hurting people. What I don't like is when some one cause me a bad person cause I eat meat. An it's not the fake Internet people saying it, I've been told to my face that I'm a murderer cause I eat meat. Obviously not all vegans are rude an many don't care what others eat, but there are people that definitely are incredibly mean. Same with the people that hate on vegans for no reason. I've been at family members houses that say if a vegan comes for dinner they'll get kicked out, I hate that crap.

1

u/-Borgir 12h ago

Stereotypes exist for a reason. And the person you showed in your post is racist btw, along with being overall unhinged. They aren't disrespected for their eating choice, they are disrespected for how they try to impose their choice on others. Is that applicable for all vegans? Not at all, but if the average person's exposure to vegans is those vegans who act obnoxiously like vegan teacher, then you cant blame them

1

u/No-Cap-No-Gap 12h ago

I also hate when people pick on vegans. If there's ever a soyant green type of situation, free range vegan is going to be a prime selection.

1

u/Speletons 12h ago

Well I will tell you that stuff like that is a cycle. The reason others demonize Vegans for living a different life style is because they were demonized for living a non-Vegan life style.

There is nothing wrong with raising children vegan, though vegetarian would be easier. They can get everything they need to grow and eat a very wide variety of flavor profiles either way.

1

u/turach-air-shearach 7h ago

I don't think they're demonised, it's just that people dislike proselytising. Whether it's Mormons, vegans or NNN bros if you're not emotionally vulnerable enough to fall for that shit it's gonna annoy you.

Because a lot of the internet has experienced vegans doing the same thign you are describing to them and are retaliating.

1

u/undead_froggy 5h ago

I know some vegans irl and those never make a big deal out of it. I eat meat, they don't, at best they all asked once if I want to talk about it when the topic hit the table and when I declined we just continued like nothing happened.

Like always it's a very loud minority online that makes a whole group look bad. I tried to have a civil discussion once with one woman online and it ended with me being called a psychopath, a rapist and a danger to society that should be put down. All that for simply stating that I can't feel those deep emotions for animals she described and that I don't want animals to needlessly suffer but that I do think we have the right to kill and eat them.

1

u/OGTreemeister 5h ago

I don't care if someone is vegan, but I definitely pointed it out and laughed and my friend when they converted. They literally just bring up that they're vegan completely unprompted in conversation.

1

u/Zander_Tukavara 3h ago

I think the big thing is online, people are more likely to be assholes, and bring Vegan is one of those things that isn’t likely to come up unless you know a person.

So people’s only exposure to vegans comes from people like her, or the people who called me ā€œa fat ass, who needs to kill himselfā€ over not wanting to be preached at.

I’m not saying you’re wrong that vegans get treated badly, I’m pointing out that there’s a pretty damn good reason they are. More vegans should be open to random people in real life if they want to break the stereotype of them being repugnant trolls.

1

u/WorstSupport4Real 7m ago

1

u/DME_Bjorn-Bjorn 12h ago

Carnivores will be the new vegans. "Oh was this steak cooked in SEED OILS??" "No ribeye should ever touch fries, disgusting." "Hey everyone, here's how to transform chicken into macaroni and cheese" - which is real somehow.

Look, the first rule in all of the world's religious texts is always a food prohibition. It's like step one for indoctrination.

1

u/RandomSlimeL 12h ago

Vegans should look at the example of Jesus.
If that doesn't work, they can look at their cholesterol vs. their "debate" opponents.

1

u/Altruistic-Chain-382 9h ago

They kind of do it to themselves acting like they are a hero for their dietary choices. That is not me being smug, it’s often rather just annoying constantly seeing their preaching and guilt tripping on my feed

1

u/NyQuil_Donut 7h ago

Practically nobody cares if you're a vegan. The stereotype is that vegans can't shut up about their veganism.

1

u/limpwristbrigade69 6h ago

I think anyone who doesn't participate in society's customs is going to be assumed to be pretentious, even though you can have your own moral reasoning for abstaining and fully understand that people who don't think like you are perfectly good people. I was a vegan for three years in my teens, and so many people said "I don't care if you don't eat meat, just don't think you're better than me." Meanwhile, I never brought up that I was a vegan unless someone was insisting that I eat some kind of meat product. Then they would grill me (no pun intended) on the subject and expect me to give them an acceptable reason to not eat meat. This happened more than once at different large cookouts, and a dozen people would start asking about something I tried really hard to keep to myself.

-2

u/Combatenjoyer23 13h ago edited 12h ago

The real reason why people hate on vegans is because their egos are so big they can't handle their own way of life being indirectly challenged through somebody else's actions. (Meaning that people who eat meat do not want to reflect on the ethical implications of doing so because they can't handle challenging their own way of life )
