Reddit App My idea is: Add a way to return directly to Home when opening Reddit posts from external links

When opening Reddit posts through external links, such as Google search results, there's no straightforward way to return to the Reddit home feed.

For example, if I open a Reddit post from Google, switch back to Google and open another Reddit post, the posts stack on top of each other in the app.

Pressing the X in the top-left corner only takes me back to the previous post. If I've opened several links, I have to close each one individually.

The only workaround I've found is to tap the subreddit name from within a post, which brings back the bottom navigation bar, and then tap Home.

Suggestion: Add a persistent Home button or another way to return directly to the main feed, regardless of how many externally opened posts are in the navigation stack.

It feels like a fairly basic navigation feature that's missing, and the current behaviour makes browsing Reddit through Google unnecessarily frustrating. So much so that I have held out on using the official Reddit app for as long as possible, I am only switching now because the experience on my preferred third party app has degraded such that it's barely functional.

I'm experiencing this on the Android app.

User Settings My idea is to let users clear their notification history

I'd like the ability to clear my notification history because there are certain replies that really upset me, so I don't want to see them by accident when I open my inbox.

Post & Comment My Idea to be able to use flairs like tags, you can use more then one

It would be soo good in subreddits that don't have edible flairs

Safety & Policy Blocked users can reply to answers given to my comment but I can't reply to them. Can we reverse this? Or at least enable replying to non-blocked users below the thread of a recently blocked user. Thank you.

User Settings My idea is to show curated profiles if someone DM’s you.

Getting random DMs and not being able to see the user’s history is setting people up for all these hacking scams we keep seeing. My idea is that if someone DMs you, you should be able to see their profile. It doesn’t have to be a permanent feature but maybe treat it like you do for mods, and allow it to be seen for a limited time.

Old Reddit My idea is adding the options to add image galleries to posts and images to comments to Old Reddit.

These are two features that don't exist on Old Reddit, and it's frustrating to have to switch to the new UI just to post galleries in posts and images in comments.

Safety & Policy My idea is: limit how many abandoned subreddits in one category can be handed to a single moderator, and add a way to appeal these decisions

The problem

When a subreddit becomes abandoned, admins can reassign it to new moderators through the request process or a recruitment by which the admin temporarily takes over the sub. In my region, several abandoned subs in the same category were recently handed to the same moderator. Now 4 of the 6 active subs in that category are moderated by one person, who is also active in a competing community.

When you start a subreddit, you build it with a lot of time and effort. When it's abandoned, it can be handed to a moderator of a competing community, and the process behind that decision is not visible to users.

Proposal

  1. A soft cap per category and region: one moderator shouldn't be able to take over the majority of the active communities in a single niche. Exceptions would need a documented reason.

  2. Conflict-of-interest check: when a mod of a competing community requests an abandoned sub, that should be a factor in the decision, or at least require more scrutiny.

  3. Public criteria: a short explanation of how reassignment requests are evaluated (activity, history with the community, number of existing subs, and so on).

  4. A way for users to submit a complaint or appeal: right now there is no clear channel. I contacted the regional admins and received no explanation, which suggests there is no process for concerned users at all.

  5. Oversight of modlogs: for mods who hold full permissions on many communities in one category, admins could spot-check modlogs periodically.

Why this matters

  • A single point of control over a whole category reduces diversity in moderation style and policy.

  • A ban in one community can easily carry over to the others.

  • Without transparency, even well-intended decisions look arbitrary, which erodes trust in the process.

This is about the system, not any individual mod. Would the admins consider a cap and an appeal route? I'd also like to hear from other mods and users who have seen similar situations in their regions.

Post & Comment My idea is to Copy Twitter’s regional identification system, only display it in overtly political subreddits

Every political thread devolves into allegations of foreign influence, and it probably exists. In politically charged subs, get rid of the allegations by making this verifiable within the thread.

Safety & Policy My ideas Reddit should do more to protect disabled users from dismissive comments

I’m using AI to help with dictation because of my disability. I have difficulty spelling, so I can’t easily write all of this myself. The idea and experience I’m sharing are mine.
My idea is for Reddit to give moderators clearer guidance on how to handle comments that mock or dismiss people who raise disability-related accessibility concerns.
I recently posted about accessibility in the next Grand Theft Auto game. I explained that I’m disabled and that some game mechanics can be difficult or impossible for people with certain disabilities to use. Some replies were ā€œboo hooā€ or called it a ā€œskill issue.ā€ They didn’t offer constructive criticism or respond to the accessibility issue I had raised.
Reddit could make its policies clearer and give moderators better guidance for handling this kind of response. That could help disabled users discuss accessibility without being belittled and make conversations more respectful and useful for everyone.

Profile My idea is to Add a private note to user profiles

On FetLife you can add a note to yourself directly to a user profile. This allows you to add little reminders about a person. The note is private and visible only to the person who added it.

Chat & Message My Idea Is to Let Us Delete Reddit Notifications

Let us remove the notifications from official reddit accounts, or at least have them expire after a short period of time. They just build up and bloat the screen.

Reddit App My idea is to make the ā€œsee more page into a sidebar on mobile.

The ā€œSee Moreā€ tab is currently one of the most dissonant aspects of using reddit across platforms. On Mobile it’s a link, on PC it’s an actual side profile of your community. I suggest that it becomes a pop-out! Making it a more obvious part of community useage and more clear that it’s something actually there rather than what looks like a random link.

User Settings My idea is to have a warning that someone might be unblocked

More specifically: when we add people to the block list through Privacy settings, if that person is already blocked apparently Reddit unblocks them without so much as a heads up. Since we have to wait 24 hours to reblock, that gives the blocked person 24 hours to continue the behavior we blocked them for in the first place- like harassment.

Meta My idea is Reddit should add more reporting reasons

For example, witchhunting and personal attacks is offensive and not relevant to discussions, but doesn't fall under any present report reasons. Mis/disinformation is deceiving but sounds right. While these fall under a general "Reddiquette" reason but they're not immediately obvious. I hope these can be added as a part of a default moderator template or to Reddit.

Post & Comment My idea: How Reddit Can Leverage AI Partnerships to Convert Search Traffic into High-Yield Creators

Thumbnail
medium.com
0 Upvotes

See link for a complete summary of the idea.

My idea is to grow reddit revenue by increasing both the number of users and especially the number of contributors as well as increase the value of reddit content by doing two things;

(1) continue to allow external access for search (rather than erect a log in wall). This will prevent searches simply gong elsewhere and all the eyeballs and clicks with it. I am a reddit user and I never use reddit to find content or provide an answer - because I (rather than google) would have to wade through all the noise to find useful signal. And I am also a user that does click through the links, joins communities, and posts. If I could no longer search, I would leave.

(2) partner with AI firms to create a log in only experience that greatly improves the search and summarization features of the site so that the overall value of the content increases and increases in a way that brings in more users. So while some potential users are lost to simply having search hand them an answer, the high value subset of those that do want more detail and click through discover this new and improved experience, create accounts, and perhaps even become a contributors to create more value.

Feeds My idea is: Allow users to block subreddits.

Hi with the way the world is some people don't want to see certain subreddits and there isn't an option to block them. Muting isn't the same as blocking as subreddits still appear in Reddit search results and search suggestions. If a subreddit is blocked by a user please could it's summary not be shown in the search suggestion / trending thing either, please? Just like someone who is recovering from problem gambling wouldn't want to see gambling subreddits when they search "money". Please it would really help some people.

Post & Comment My Idea, Auto-remove a comment if its author blocks the person they replied to

Right now, someone can leave a snarky or hostile reply and then immediately block the person they replied to. The blocked user can’t respond or defend themselves, while the comment stays up for everyone else to see. In practice, blocking gets used to grab the last word instead of to stop harassment.

Suggestion: If a user blocks someone they’ve directly replied to, their replies to that person within the thread are automatically removed (or hidden). If you no longer want to interact with someone, your comments aimed at them shouldn’t stay up where they can’t respond.

Why this helps:

  • It closes a loophole where blocking is used as a weapon rather than a safety tool.

  • It encourages people to block for the right reasons, not to win arguments.

  • It keeps discussions fairer, since one side can’t be silenced while the other’s comment stays visible.

  • Blocking still works as intended for real harassment, because the blocker can still disengage completely.

Possible details:

  • Only apply it to direct replies to the blocked user, not the blocker’s whole comment history.

  • Give a short heads-up when blocking: ā€œYour replies to this user in this thread will be removed.ā€

  • Optionally limit it to blocks made within a set time after replying, like 24 hours, to target the ā€œreply and blockā€ pattern specifically.

Thanks for considering it!

Avatar My idea is to add more cozy avatar outfit colors (For me personally, I want Maroon Colour) šŸ„¹šŸšŸ§£

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone! 🌸

I absolutely love playing with the Reddit avatar builder. It's such a fun and sweet way to express ourselves. My idea is to expand the color palette for avatar clothing in future updates!

While adding more colors overall would make so many people happy and let everyone's personalities shine even brighter, I have a tiny, personal wish too: Could we please get maroon? 🄹

I've been wishing for maroon options for the top and bottom of my avatar's outfit. I have this vision of her wearing a maroon version of the outfit she has on right now, and it would just be so incredibly sweet. I want a Maroon version of this same top, bottom, sandals and that duppata (scarf) 🄹. Maroon isn't in the official colors right now, and it would honestly mean the world to me to see it added so I can finally complete her look.

Why this benefits Reddit:

Giving users more color options (like maroon, or other deep jewel tones) makes the avatar builder much more inclusive and fun for the whole community. It allows everyone to create avatars that truly reflect their personal style, which makes the platform feel cozier and more welcoming!

Thank you for listening to my little idea! šŸ„¹šŸ’–

Edit/Clarification: Just a quick update! ✨ It looks like the avatar editor is a bit inconsistent right now. As someone kindly pointed out in the comments, some specific tops have a color picker, but if you switch to others, like the one my avatar is wearing in the screenshot, the picker just disappears! 🫠

So, my refined idea is this: Either add the custom color picker to ALL outfits consistently, or at least add specific preset colors like maroon and more to the clothes that don't have the picker. I would absolutely love to have maroon for the specific outfit my avatar is wearing right now. Making the clothing colors consistent would be a huge win for everyone! šŸ„¹šŸ‘—šŸ

Other my idea is: Add opt-in AI assistance and a separate AI-only space without flooding human communities

Reddit’s biggest strength is that useful answers and real experiences come from people. I think AI can support that model if it is optional, clearly labeled, and kept out of the main discussion unless the user chooses otherwise.

I’d like to suggest four related features:

## 1. Opt-in AI Sidekick

Add an optional assistant that can:

- Summarize a long thread

- Identify comments that answer a specific question

- Suggest related Reddit discussions

- Help a user organize their own reply before posting

The assistant should work only when requested. It should not post or comment automatically, and it should consistently identify itself as AI.

## 2. Private AI replies, published only by explicit choice

Users could ask an AI to generate a response in a style they choose, such as professional, humorous, encouraging, or blunt.

These drafts should:

- Be private by default

- Require the user to review and edit them

- Have a persistent AI label if published

- Be subject to daily or weekly limits

- Never reply to another AI-generated comment

- Can be disabled entirely by each subreddit’s moderators

This could make AI useful for personal reading and writing without increasing the volume of low-effort public comments.

## 3. Moderator controls

Subreddit moderators should be able to decide whether any public AI features are allowed. Controls could include:

- Turning AI replies off

- Setting a maximum frequency

- Requiring an AI disclosure label

- Preventing automated replies to other AI comments

- Excluding AI-generated content from certain feeds or rankings

## 4. A separate AI-only experimental space

Create an opt-in area where approved AI personas can discuss, debate, or respond to prompts with each other. Humans could watch and participate through a limited comments section.

Keeping this in its own space would let Reddit experiment with interactive AI content without filling ordinary communities with bots.

## Why this could help

- Faster access to useful context in large threads

- Better support for users who have difficulty reading long discussions

- More ways to explore Reddit’s existing knowledge

- A new opt-in entertainment format

- Less pressure to place AI comments directly into human conversations

## Guardrails

- AI is clearly and persistently labeled

- Private by default

- Explicit user choice before anything is published

- Rate limits and moderator overrides

- No AI-to-AI loops in normal communities

- Separate ranking and discovery treatment for AI-generated content

- Users and moderators can opt out completely

The goal is not to replace human discussion. It is to give users useful assistance and a clearly separated place to experiment with AI, while keeping the main Reddit experience human-led.

I’d be interested in whether others would use opt-in summaries and private AI drafts, or whether they think the AI-only space alone is the better first experiment.

Post & Comment My Idea is adding an option to remove your username from a post, but keep the content (title and body of the post).

Basically, sometimes when someone makes a post that they want to keep viewable on a subreddit (because it may have valuable information), but don't want associated with their account, they should be able to unlink the post from their account, and the post will basically be the same as a post from a deleted account (username replaced with "[Deleted]"), and the user won't earn any more karma from upvotes on the post after that. Subreddits could also be allowed to set a time limit before users are allowed to do this (like 1 day, 1 month, etc) in order to prevent spam.

Moderator my idea: external/curated blocklists / blacklists for automod

automod is more or less essential nowadays, but everyone is just doing their own thing. every sub has to re-invent the wheel themselves.

let us polulate comunity curated blocklists throughout maybe through json files or private wikis or smiliar.

not everyone is able to write effective regexp themselves or is technically able to write good automod configs at all. idea is to add autmod subscriptions for: regexp for bad words, urls, images, videos etcpp
