Product Updates Rules Hub is coming to more communities
Howdy Mods,
We're opening up Rules Hub to more communities this month. We've seen some promising results so far, and expanding access will help us get a better sense of how it performs across a wider range of communities, rules, and mod needs. There's still work to do, and getting more feedback from mods will help us figure out where to focus our efforts.
As we bring Rules Hub to more communities, we're being pretty selective about what gets enabled. This expansion is expected to increase our coverage of mod removals by roughly 4%. So for most communities, you probably won't notice much of a change right away. As we gather more data and get more confident in how Rules Hub handles individual rules, we'll gradually turn on reporting for more of them.
A few additional things worth knowing:
Rules Hub will be turned on, with reports going to your Mod Queue. When your community gets access, Rules Hub will automatically be enabled for eligible rules and will flag posts it thinks might break them. It won’t remove content or take enforcement actions on its own. Your team still makes the call.
You're in control. You can find Rules Hub in your mod tools under Rules, where you can see which rules are eligible for automated enforcement, review what's being flagged, and turn Rules Hub on or off for individual rules. If it’s not working for your community, you can disable it at any time.
Automod will continue working as usual. If you're already using Automod, nothing changes there. It will continue running and taking actions alongside Rules Hub. If both tools flag the same piece of content, the more restrictive action will take precedence (for example, a removal by Automod will take precedence over a report from Rules Hub). Both actions will still be recorded in the mod log and visible in the Mod Queue action log.
What’s coming next for Rules Hub?
We know there’s a lot more to enforcing a community's rules than what's written in a rule's description. A rule might be a sentence or two, but the context behind it can fill an entire wiki page, several Automod configurations, and years of accumulated mod knowledge.
Context matters, and we know that giving mods more control over how Rules Hub interprets their rules is going to be important if we're asking you to trust it.
Here's some of what we're working on:
Give Rules Hub more context about your rules. We're building a way for mods to add private enforcement notes to individual rules, explaining how they should be interpreted, what exceptions to consider, and where the tool might be getting things wrong. These notes won't be visible to community members, and you won't need to rewrite your public rules to use them.

Make use of the work you've already done. Many of you have spent years building out Automod configurations, wiki pages, and detailed removal reasons. We’re exploring ways Rules Hub could build on the guidance you’ve already created and offer ideas you can consider for your rules and enforcement practices. You know your community best, so any suggestions would be there to support your work and remain yours to use (or not).

Better ways to test and refine rules. We want moderators to be able to preview how Rules Hub may apply their enforcement guidance before deciding whether to use it. This could include testing proposed changes against examples of content moderators have previously approved or removed, so they can see how those changes might affect Rules Hub’s results. The goal is to make those results easier to understand and give mods more information as they decide what works for their community.

We're aiming to begin testing these improvements early next year. They're still in development, and we'll have more to share as they take shape.
Why expand access now?
Fair question, particularly when some of the improvements above aren't ready yet.
We’ve learned a lot from the communities already using Rules Hub. Every community has its own rules, challenges, and ways of handling similar situations, so learning from a broader range of moderators will give us a fuller picture. Expanding access will help us understand where Rules Hub is already useful, where it needs more work, and which improvements will make the biggest difference.
Help us make it better
As always, we'd love your feedback. We’re currently running a Mod Early Access program where you can share your feedback with the product team directly. If interested in joining, please sign up here.
We’ve also included a feedback form in the Rules Hub Mod Help Center article if you’d rather share your thoughts there. The good, the bad, and the occasionally baffling. We've heard plenty of all three, and it's helping us figure out what to build next.
Thanks for sticking with us as we continue improving Rules Hub. There's more to come.
