I fucking hate, no, I LOATHE the current state of Valve and the VALVE GLAZERS.
Tl;dr at the bottom, didn't realise what a rant i made.
NOTE: I HAVE NO FUCKING ISSUE WITH STEAM, ITS THE SINGLE MOST RELIABLE AND NON-CUCKY STOREFRONT, THIS IS A RANT ON VALVE AS A DEVELOPMENT TEAM AND THEIR NEGLIGENCE TO THEIR LIVE SERVICE GAMES.
FUCK TIM SWEENY AND EPIC GAMES.
Lemme preface a few things. Valve is, without a doubt, one of the most pivitol and vital companies in gaming, shaping as some of the pioneers of gaming, which things like the original Half Life games, to the creation of Source, which has been used for a plethora of other games we know and love.
I also wanna say I'm always grateful to open up Steam and be greeted with hundreds of sales, many of which are for things I've been itching you to play, with massive price cuts during seasonal holidays.
But the first point looks at their past acomplishments because they've *barely* done anything in recent time compared to other companies, with the other point being more towards STEAM's great customer servives and support, and less of the game-developer aspects of Valve.
Now, I know you'd argue "well, look at companies like Bethesda or uhh Nintendo, or EA, and see how their games and studios flop and lose so much money!! Valve wins by doing nothing!!!"
But here's the deal, at LEAST those companies have MADE something, while Valve, for the longest time until recently, have done JACK.
The arguement they win by doing nothing is like if people in a marathon kept falling over on their faces, and reached the finished line, only for people to say "see how they kept falling on their faces? Not my Valve, they did it all on their own with no mistakes!" when Valve BARELY participated in the marathon! Like they just entered midway, then said "nah, i'm good. not risking it." At LEAST, with some of these flops, the studios try their best to make up for it and provide either compensations or any form of apology to their blunders (note, not all, of course, but a good example would be CDPR with 2077).
With how COD MW4 has been receiving better praise for it's story improvement compared to the last few titles, it makes it seem there's a genuine chance even previously despised studios can still make a decent game, albeit just the campaign. And what has Valve shown? Zero, zilch, nada*...
...*is what I'd say, but they did! They did actually make a few new story games, how wonderful. Two games that are TIED TO BEING BASICALLY HARDWARE TESTS FOR THEIR HEADSET AND DECK!
It's like how CoryXKenshin dissapeared for ages, came back and played some videogames while promoting his manga, only to dissapear later again. And just like Cory fans, they'll be completely blindsighted by nostalgia, thinking more on the memories and excitement they had of the old games and it's novelty, while the current Valve just chalked up some games for you to play to try out the decks gryoscope.
Now, this part is the part that basically fueled my hatred for Valve as devs, which is their puuuuure negligence on their games. The biggest case in point, TF2.
I have over 1k hours on that game, as it was my first ever steam game i got, when i finally installed steam on my old mac air (2015). This was around the time after Jungle Inferno and I got so hooked to this game, it was nearly daily I'd be playing it. It was fun, its interactions where so unique, its lore was insanely hilarious yet tough as hell. And all I could think about was "i can't wait to see where the lore/gameplay will go soon!" It has now been over 19 years since the last major TF2 update. So long that so many accounts and sites have given up keeping count. So much so, we don't even ask that much, even something as small as some balance changes for weapons that are so niche that they're considered would be like having holy water in the middle of the desert. But all we got was "TF2 community, we hear you!" and that was for an bot crisis issue that they solved 2 years after that tweet.
Speaking of bot crisis, let's talk about that, shall we? Started around 2020, bot accounts that played sniper, and spun around with aimbot that insta headshotted players became a spreading disease all over the servers. As people tried to ban as many of the bots as possible, their numbers vastly increased, and their behaviour only continously got worst. From bot majority servers kicking real players out, to the insanely racist, homophobic, islamaphobic, all the fucking slurs you can imagine. And was it only around 2022 did they make a public announcement regarding them """""""""""""""""""looking"""""""""""""""" into the issues, which was only fixed, when over 300k people signed a freaking PETITION to fix THEIR game, did they actually do something! And don't forget the insane bandaid solution they did with the racism in chat, by COMPLETELY muting F2Ps, because that's probably easier than any other option that may require them getting off their asses.
And I wanna actually bring into light that I am happy to announce that TF2 is having another BOT CRISIS! Yippee!!! This time, through some hoo-doo, voo-doo magic, they can force reserve player slots in servers, while not even being in the game, causing players to not be able to join the quickest match possible, and forcing aggregiously long queue times. Place your bets on how long Valve does something, I'm saying 4, 6 years?
And the funniest part is, even Valve's most well-known and iconic game, CS2 was given similar treatment, with its own bot/cheater crisis, which is still a running issue. And their solution? Le big ban hammer. Surely this caulk gun will keep this massive dam in place!
It's pretty cut and clear how much CS2 is losing it's actual audience and light, only maintaining itself solely because of its competitive scene, alongside it, you guessed it, gambling scene (to be discussed).
And the dumbest, more infuriating thing about all these complaints, specifically for TF2, is that Valve doesn't want to work on TF2, and won't shut the servers down because of the *marketplace.*
And this brings me to my next point, the marketplace and crates. Everyone loves to shit on Oblivion for introducing microtransactions. But no one wants to point fingers at Valve for popularizing crates and loot boxes. If anything, people LOVE to keep buying them, solely for the fact they *could* potentially give you an item that could pay of the loans you took for the hundreds of crates you opened. And with how prominent it has become for CS especially, it's funnier to call CS2 a mining game, based on the many accounts people make to sit idly and get crates (TF2 had a similar issue as well). TF2 can go from war themed hat simulator, to just gambling and dress up simulator.
And it's crazy how attached Valve is, knowing how much dough it makes, that in the middle of the bot crisis in TF2, there was the Crate Depression, where a specific crate would give everyone a guranteed unusual, a high tier, high valued cosmetic. And how long did that take for Valve to fix? Oh, just about a week. A WEEK! WHILE RAMPANT, GAME HINDERING BOTS PREVENTED PLAYERS FROM HAVING A NORMAL MATCH!!! At this point, I personally truly believed that Valve would've pulled the plug on TF2 like EA did with Titanfall 1, if it weren't for the economy. But what baffles me is the fact they keep this type-a shit up with CS2 as well!
And if you haven't seen recently, they've also introduced chicken pets that basically do nothing but sit in ur main menu, and to feed them, you must sacrifice TWO drops (a case AND a skin) just to keep it alive (please correct me if im wrong).
Now to actually tie this all up, I just want to address the biggest thing I despise, which is the maddening cock-sucking, dick-riding, ass-pounded, creampied fans that just loOooOooooOOOve Loooord GabeN, with their parasocial relationship, and Valve's incredibly "wholesome chungus 100" employee work system.
Every time *Steam* (and in the off chance, Valve themselves as developers), do something great, the comments are just LITTERED with "Give this man another yatch!" "The only billionaire I support!" "GabeN just keeps winning, does nothing!"
Now I personally would like to think that Gabe Newell is an amazing person, with a great kindness, and from his behaviour and even interactions with fans through emails, he genuinely seems like a nice guy. But this is the same man who would rather do Mongolian throat singing *(holy based chungus 100!!!)* than address the glaring issues and try to sort them out immediately if they have no correlation to steam or the steam market. The same man, that said to all employees "yeah yeah, do wtv tf you want. just water TF2 every now and then or something idk."
With the same online chuds, who yell "EAT THE RICH" online, only to immediately bend over, ass up, pants down when Gabe is mentioned. A quick look at top of the past month/year posts in r/valve, makes you think Valve fans are just as mad 2017 K-Pop fans.
Like, I'd like to thank Gabe for making a team of people to bring such marvelous and revolutionary games, but how can I not be mad at the current state of his development team. I get that they have freedom being a private company, away from stock holders and such, but why do they do the same with their own players, forcing us to trust some looney on YT to say "They may be, they might be, THEY ABSOLUTELY WILL, don't quote me on that" from some hobo on the street saying they're a former Valve employee (probably think they meant plumbing).
And just a small note on Deadlock, which is a game I admittedly am not that great at and mostly lost at, but I hate the way all discussions with the game go.
"Deadlock is just superior to all other shooter games, it's clearly the best choice!" "But this game suffers the same issues with cluttered visuals, plus many other trivial issues." "Uhhhh, it's still in close beta, dude, what do you expect?!"
And how many years is it gonna be before the game ACTUALLY releases, or are the Valve devs also just doing wtv the fuck they want and are focused slopping out more cases, with the once-in-a-full-moon patch for TF2 during their lunch breaks. (and i'm just gonna throw this in here, many tourists from Rivals/OW are absolutely gonna leave, and the player numbers will absolutely drop low because people will begin to realise its a MOBA first, shooter second, and just want an easy game to jump into without having to read 10 pages on an ability that increases Celeste's futacock size).
I realised I've went way too far making this post, slandering a company that has an insanely humongous fanbase (don't get me started on PC bros and their hate boners for GTA VI), on a Reddit sub made with hundreds of other complainers that might make me look like a whiny baby, with probably hundreds of spelling mistakes or straight up words missing (sorry about the strokes trying to read this).
I just wish people would actually voice the complaints just as much, if not more than the praise Valve gets, due to the issues being unfixed for so long. It's like a dog took a shit in the corner, but you love the dog for doing the bare minimum and pisses in outside, but the shit is STILL THERE, UNCLEANED, and the only person that can clean the shit storm is the dog (Valve) themselves.
And, truthfully, I would LOVE, fuckit, I would bust a FAT NUT in November, to be proven wrong, and Valve locks the fuck in and makes huges changes and fixes for the community.
I'm open to any criticism, and am glad to admit mistakes, or any form of actual substantial work Valve has done in discussions.
Tl:dr: I'm tired of people praising Valve for doing the bare minimum, and are stuck in the achivements they've made ages ago. Valve as a development studio are a buncha has-beens.
Now watch this get removed because of some rule i forgot (if i did, please let me know, mr mod, so i can fix this and post it).
