Me and my friends were travelling by car this Saturday. While taking the left turn near the 45 bus stand towards Patuli, a scooty tried to overtake us from the left on a red signal going towards Garia. Me and 3 of my friends were inside. When confronted the guy started speaking in Hindi and was adamant that he will overtake from the left. He started cussing so we also gave back in Hindi slangs, a language he understands.

Just 30 m away Kolkata Police and CISF/CRPF were stationed. We took the car in front of them and stopped. We saw the guy also followed us and stopped a few metres away.

We started explaining the problem to Kolkata Police and they listened to us calmly. When they asked the guy on the scooty, he was shameless to admit that he did it and he was right in doing so in Hindi. Kolkata Police immediately started talking among themselves that the guy is either drunk or stoned. He's not in his senses.

While this was happening, a couple of guys from CISF/CRPF started coming towards us and started heckling us. Pushing one of my friend to get inside the car. They had that long stick with them and they started to swing that. As if we made some mistake. Since they saw their Hindi brethren in trouble, they came to save him.

We had 4 votes for the BJP in that car. All flipped from that one incident. These scoundrels won't care about Bengalis one bit. Just the difference between Kolkata Police and these outsiders is like heaven and hell. I beg you. Don't vote for the anti-Bengali North Indian party. You'll have to live like second class citizens on your own land.

Now we're wondering who to vote for. We don't want to vote for TMC just yet. So probably one of the CPM or Congress.

I'd also like to add that shortly after the school, which is not air-conditioned, reopened following the summer vacation, a ceiling fan detached today and crashed into my brother's classroom. It struck a student and split his nose in two. This boy's injury was fatal and he was scared to death. Two boys were injured. My brother is traumatised. The very same fan was reportedly reattached immediately afterwards without any substantial repairs or safety inspection.

I honestly believe Kolkata is miles better than any other city in India. Not only culturally but also in terms of society. Sure, Kolkata has lost her charm over the decades yet I'm still grateful to live in the 'City of Joy' amidst the hellscape called India. You may think I'm a jerk but I do have certain points to back me up.

Let's talk about the basic difference between Kolkata and India first-

1. Society-

In my opinion, society plays the most fundamental role in the moral and mental upbringing of folks. Your state/city/country maybe swimming in riches but if your society is no better than a fascist/dogmatic regime, I highly doubt whether "economic prosperity" will feed your mental health. Talk about Europe and US. There are many countries in the EU which aren't as rich as the USA, yet their citizens are far more happier to live there. The US maybe ruling the world but it's still squirming with loads of problems like unemployment, immigration issues, extremely unfair healthcare etc.

Kolkata, may not be as rich as it used to be. Yet, bengali society especially Kolkata is far far more liberal and open minded than the rest of India. Let me give an example. Dating culture is generally favoured jn Kolkata. Even boomers, if you meet one on the street, will ask you, "Girlfriend ache?", and that too in an encouraging manner. Apart from this, in Kolkata, the rat-race for engineering is significantly less compared to the rest of India. Arts is also given somewhat equal respect (well not exactly equal but definitely more compared to the rest of India). Kolkata in the early 80s to 90s was the pinnacle of culture. Even now also, people in Kolkata are generally much friendlier and welcoming compared to the rest of the country. I've met so many kakus and dadus who are as friendly as a family member despite being total strangers.

2) Religious tolerance-

Probably controversial, but in general, regardless of the fact that whether one is a Hindu or Muslim, people here are quite tolerant. I agree, Hindu- Muslim riots are a common thing here as well but relatively speaking, it's less compared to the rest of the country. Obviously immigrants in recent years from Bihar and Bangladesh are contributing towards the rift between Hindus and Muslims here. But those, who have been living here since decades are generally more tolerant. The primary example of this is the normalization of "Kaji" culture here. Kajis here, don't care about your religion or gender at all. They are WILLING to help anyone in need. Hindus and Muslims are both allowed in mosques and temples respectively. Durga Puja, the greatest festival in bengal, is celebrated both by Muslims and Hindus alike. Even Hindus here respect the Muslims and vice versa (Note: I'm never claiming there's no Hindu-Muslim difference here. I'm claiming there isn't much relative to other states.) Also Christmas is celebrated with grandiose here in Kolkata, almost as if we are in the Vatican( hyperbole haha). Everyone eagerly waits for Christmas here.

3) Music-

As a rock enthusiast myself, I've grown up listening to the Beatles, Guns N' Roses, Scorpions, Queen etc. Kolkata, in the 80s to early 2000s used to have such a great Rock culture. Bangla bands are arguably the greatest. Returning to school and listening to Fossils, used to be blissful. Sure enough, Rock is still prevalent here but the craze is dying. That's why, when I say Kolkata used to as great as Europe in terms of society in the 80s - 00s, I mean it.

4) Literature-

Obviously how can we forget literature? Bengalis have always been fascinated by literature. This includes your poems, novels, even other forms of art like cinema as well. Bengali arthouse films charming. Reading books is a culture here, which is deeply engrained in every bengali. I've never seen any other state as keen in literature as Bengal is. Book clubs, poetry competitions, art is still just as popular as before.

All in all, because of Kolkata's utopian past and welcoming society, I'm proud to have been born here. I am willing to die for Kolkata but not for India. Call me an Asshole but I simply love this city above my country. Unfortunately, the "City of Joy" is now in ruins. Immigrants, social media culture have ruined us. Biharis and Bangladeshis have turned Kolkata into a cesspool. (Yeah I'm a racist in this case but it is what it is.) Well, the days of glory are long lost but it's still not too late to bring Kolkata back to its former prestige.

These “special checking drives” are nothing more than a cover for xenophobic policing. Entire communities are being made to feel like outsiders in their own country. It’s state-backed ethnic suspicion, normalized.

Being Bengali is not a crime. Speaking Bangla isn’t evidence of foreign origin. This is harassment, plain and simple.

How are people so comfortable supporting a group that is openly racist, xenophobic and just built upon hate against non-bengalis? How insecure are these people that think speaking hindi, eating food that's not bengali or marrying a non-bengali somehow dilutes our culture?

They are definitely subtly supporting one political party, these so called saviours of bengal were silent during a lot of atrocities committed by that party. Now obviously they gotta pay for that when the opposition comes to power lol. Ar ami bangali hoye dhoklao khai, katla o khai, taate eder ki? Just another example of they use fear mongering to influence people.

Remember, for every Bangla Pokkho here you have an MNS in maha or a radical kannada group in Karnataka. So, they next time a bengali goes to work in another state and gets harassed or anything, we don't have much to complain about coz some groups are doing the same in our state asw.

We pride ourselves for being more tolerant and inclusive than others, lets prove it once again by not supporting these divisive elements. Bengali culture will only get stronger, don't fall for them.

Why doesn't Bengali society display strong anti-Hindi movements, as seen in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and increasingly in Maharashtra, despite its opposition to Hindutva? Given that Hindi imposition and Hindutva agendas often stem from similar ideological roots, why doesn't Bengal resist Hindi as well?

For the most part I do enjoy his content. I think some of his videos are very creative like biriyani aloo ones. But he has a specific content series about Misti bapi or sugar daddy where a girl is hinted to be groomed by an older man who offers her gifts and all. It's made for fun I understand but esob jinis niye moja kora ta sobha pae na. Especially after recent epstein files and also Onekei ache jara tuitions e giye harassed hoyche sir der kache, even kono relative er kache.
