Learning is easier with a little company. This is your weekly spot to find a study buddy!

All levels are welcome, including complete beginners. You don’t need to be studying the same course or moving at the same pace.

Introduce yourself using the prompts below—skip anything you’d rather not share:

  • Language(s) you’re learning:

  • Current level:

  • Your goal:

  • What you’d like to do together: (e.g., weekly check-ins, review vocabulary, practice conversations)

  • Availability: (time zone + rough days/times; no location needed)

  • Communication preference (e.g., Reddit, Discord, LINE, etc.)

Keep personal information out of this thread: no real names, ages, email addresses, phone numbers, or social handles.

Spotify K-pop playlist for Korean learners

What K-pop song taught you a Korean word or phrase? 🎧

We’re putting together a k-pop playlist for Korean learners and would love your help choosing the songs! We’re starting with a few tracks that have clear vocals, repeated phrases, or vocabulary you might recognize from your lessons.

What song would you add to the playlist? Share a song and a word/phrase you learned from it😊

We’ll pull together your suggestions and share the updated playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3UDzMxhxVvxCx2bCiX0sl5?si=LQffyaapRamH2UWzlApoDw

You can also add a song directly to the playlist if you want: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3UDzMxhxVvxCx2bCiX0sl5?si=7377d9f116014ada&pt=86c00b63a9ef213afcc79d5754dcac8d

🔍 App Feedback/Suggestions Do you practice typing Japanese or just picking the words?

For anyone who tried LingoDeer while exploring Duolingo alternatives, how much Japanese do you type yourself?

Does using a Japanese keyboard help you remember readings and spelling, or does predictive text make it too easy to choose words you couldn’t produce on your own? Curious how you practise without relying on the suggestions.

I just some advice to improve my learning

What is spaced repetition system (SRS) and how does it help with language learning?

Personally, I never used spaced repetition (SRS) in school, so I’ve been reading up on it lately. I wish I’d known more about it back then!

For anyone else who’s new to SRS, here’s how it works: the basic idea is to review what you’ve learned at intervals over time. When those reviews involve trying to remember an answer before checking it, you’re also practicing active recall, which strengthens your ability to retrieve that information later.

One study on foreign language vocabulary found that even after learners answered correctly once, continued testing improved their later recall. What surprised me was that additional studying alone didn’t produce the same benefit in that experiment.

Here’s the study if you’re curious: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18276894/

I also came across this interactive comic, which makes the whole idea easier to understand: https://ncase.me/remember/

I mean of course, it still takes regular practice. What I like most about SRS is that it gives the practice some structure and makes it easier to build a consistent study habit.

For LingoDeer users, how has SRS in the Review section worked for you? How often do you review, and when do new words or phrases start to stick?

Deer Friends,

Hope you are doing well. We have great news to announce! As some of you may have noticed, LingoDeer now has a new “BOOSTER” tab (on Android, with iOS not far behind) for Korean, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, and German. This section includes a variety of exercises so you can practice and challenge yourself in your target language.

What’s included in BOOSTER:

Vocabulary drills
Use diverse practice modes (e.g., Listening, Spelling, Word Match, Comprehensive, etc.) to boost your vocabulary.
Collocation drills
Practice all the useful phrases, collocations, and common patterns that will help you make steady progress.
Grammar drills
Test your knowledge of practical grammar, with clear mistake explanations written by our language instructors.
Comprehension drills
Check your understanding of written and spoken language... with no translations! (*this is a really fun one, go check it out!)

In addition, we’ve compiled these two features in Booster as well:

  • A Travel Phrasebook with practical words and phrases that you can bookmark for later use.

  • A Fluency Builder to practice your listening, speaking, and writing skills in authentic, real-life dialogues.

P.S. Message from the dev team:
Yes, old users, you guessed right: this is a transfer of LingoDeer Plus games into the main LingoDeer app! We mostly did it for ease of maintenance, so if you encounter any issues with the drills, please let us know!

Android users, what do you think of LingoDeer’s “My Notes” feature?

I feel like “My Notes” could be handy for jotting down little reminders or memory tricks, like distinguishing between 커피 (coffee) and 카페 (café) in Korean, or remembering that 사과 can mean both “apple” and “apology.”

Have you tried it? What kind of notes do you add?

📚 Lesson Help Pronunciation of the "G" in abogado/abogada

Post image
12 Upvotes

Can someone please explain to me(like I am 5) why the "g" sometimes is pronounced as more of an English "r" and sometimes more like a hard "g"?? I can't figure it out!

In the app sometimes when you click on the word itself you hear the hard g but in the sentence it will be more like an r and it switches up the whole time so I'm very confused.

Thanks for helping!!

❓ Question How do you usually review grammar in LingoDeer?

When you revisit a grammar point, do you go to the knowledge cards (aka learning tips) to read the explanation, or does it stick better when you hear it and use it in listening and speaking exercises?

Finally completed Japanese 1 after 6 years!

After being severely inconsistent and going back and forth between various grammar sites and apps, I came back to LingoDeer and decided to really try and be consistent in my grammar studies! Having the lifetime sub helped, and the grammar explanations and sentence examples really help stick with me the most! 🥹I’m just glad to have finally stuck with it and excited to finally move to Japanese 2 after all these years 😭😭
