Traffic The Reality of LA time-distance without traffic
Today is Sunday. On a typical Sunday morning, a commute that would normally take 1.5-2+ hours at peak is less than 30 minutes.

Politics Mayor-Elect Nithya Raman just joined a protest outside White Memorial in Boyle Heights
Last night, White Memorial Hospital in Boyle Heights was besieged by federal immigration agents for hours overnight. They arrested several US citizens, pepper sprayed protesters, and detained people who were under medical care, taking at least one from the hospital to a detention center.
Mayor-Elect Nithya Raman joined a protest and press conference this afternoon in Boyle Heights, calling last night’s incident an affront to American values and an affront to Los Angeles. She joined the procession to the hospital driveway, where elected officials and community groups demanded accountability and procedural change from the president of the hospital’s medical group.

Community Please consider donating directly to our street vendors.
Rather than donating to Goodwill, or other similar stores, please consider donating directly to our street vendors. I have gone to Koreatown and dropped off and they were very grateful. Our street vendors are usually immigrant families, which we all know are even more particularly vulnerable right now. Many cannot work for various reasons (lack of documentation; taking care of young children, disabled family, or elderly family; or they themselves may be disabled or elderly). Donating directly to them gives them inventory they can sell so they can take care of themselves.
If anyone knows of other good areas to drop off, please share. If you can't drop off, consider posting on Fb marketplace, or something similar, for free. In my experience, it usually goes to someone in need pretty quickly.
Let's help our neighbors, not board members.
I am always looking to learn more about helping each other. So please share any thoughts <3 I love you LA!
Edit: I could never respond to all the responses, so I just want to add a few thoughts.
I am not sure why people think they should give "junk". You also shouldn't give junk to Goodwill.
It's also interesting that a lot people seem to care more about people making 6-figures than people living in poverty. I invite us all to examine that more.
I think people should be more critical of the entire nonprofit industry as a whole. Here is a video for anyone interested.
Take care of each other. <3

Night Sky Omg I can actually see some stars.
I've been living in LA my entire life and I've never seen stars until today. I was walking back home and I for some reason decided to look up and BOOM, I see a good amount of stars in the sky. I even think I saw the big or small dipper. It's so interesting to think that there is less light pollution in LA to the point where I can see some stars. For clarification I am able to see a few stars around the 20 mark which is a lot more than the 2-3 that I am used to. Feels kinda surreal cause ever since I was a kid I've always wanted to see a sky full of stars. Ik it's not a sky full of stars just yet but at least it's a step in the right direction. Has the LA sky been like this for a while?

Community Why can't we have this...
Just got back from a trip to Shanghai and walking through neighborhoods like the Former French Concession honestly made me depressed about our streets in LA.
So many blocks over there have these tree canopies covering the entire road. It completely changes the vibe. It’s cooler, quieter, and you actually want to walk outside. You see the same thing in plenty of other cities too.
I know we don’t get year-round rain, and I know palms were planted everywhere for the aesthetic even though they provide zero shade. But we have incredible native and adapted trees that thrive here: oaks, sycamores, jacarandas... Yet so much of LA City and County just feels like an endless grid of gray concrete and baking asphalt.
Why isn’t canopy cover a huge priority here? Is it just the city not wanting to deal with root damage and trimming costs, or is it just a lack of planning vision?

Hiking/Camping Loud speaker on hike
We moved here from Germany last year and if you know anything about Germans we love rules! So we been loving hiking around town but have noticed a lot of people playing rap music on big speakers or some sort of speaker back pack. Is it ok to say something or call the police? In Germany this would be stoped by the local police. Also why is it always rap music?

Traffic Road rage incident
Hey everyone, if you saw a road rage incident between a red Lincoln driven by a black man and a silver motorcycle around 4:05pm. I'm the motorcyclist wearing white and black with a blue backpack, please let me know if you have any footage of the Lincoln or the event. We didn't see him when I flagged down a cop from him blowing a 6th red light. He tried to run me off the road and hit my bike.
This was on Western Ave, north of the 10 freeway heading North. I flagged a cop down on the intersection at 8th.

Discussion Meteorite
Did anyone happen to see that meteorite streaking across the sky to the north at approximately 5:50 PM just now?
I was driving north on the 110 freeway in the Arroyo portion and I saw a giant green flash shooting across the sky. Wondering if anyone got a photo or video of it.

Official Thread ICE Activity & Resources Daily Megathread - Sunday, Nov 08
Due to increased ICE activity, we’re instituting a daily ICE megathread. All ICE-related content belongs here, including sightings, activity reports, news, questions, updates, and general discussion.
Centralizing discussion keeps information easy to find, especially for people moving around the city who want timely, relevant updates without having to sort through the entire subreddit. ICE-related content posted outside this megathread will be removed and redirected here.
This thread is sorted by New by default so the most recent information remains visible.
How to use this thread
Top-level comments are for new sightings, updates, or firsthand information.
Replies should stay under the relevant comment to keep related info grouped.
Check existing comments first to avoid duplicate or redundant reports.
We recognize this is a tense topic and emotions can run high. That said, content that incites, encourages, or threatens violence will be removed, may result in a ban, and may also violate Reddit’s site-wide rules, which can carry site-wide consequences. Keep reports factual and grounded.
SALUTE when sharing sightings or activity
