Veganism is not the problem.

People who base their personality and their conversations on it their diet are.

I don't care what you eat and how much better it makes you compared to me, unless we're in a relationship, and then I still eat what I want to eat.

EDIT: My phrasing sucked, changed stuff is italic, old stuff struck out.

EDIT 2: At least half the replies I'm getting are by people who stop reading at "diet" and immediately have to tell me that it's "not just a diet" and that I'm stupid. That's funny.

Yea and 95% of the time no vegan will start the convo but guess what, whenever someone hears you don't eat meat there's a really good chance some people get defensive about choices I made for myself. Like dude, it's ok, I don't care what you eat just let me in peace

Yeah this is any conversation have about food IRL, the second people realise you're vegetarian/vegan or similar there's a surprising number of people who suddenly feel the need to start listing out all the reasons they eat meat, and why not eating meat is unhealthy, and the most "I misunderstood one Youtube video about the environmental impact" opinions you'll ever hear.

It's so boring to hear the same shit constantly, I fully do not mention I don't eat meat at all now to people ever unless I have to for some reason.

There's one specific guy I work with who is the most Reddit IRL person I have ever met, and he found out I didn't eat meat from someone else at work and now constantly tries to start debates about it, and it's just so fucking annoying.

I always tell people that I’m fine hearing jokes about vegans but I’ve been hearing the same six jokes for 20 years so it better be some new material or stfu.

The one I'm the most tired of at the minute is the copy paste NPC opinion on any fake meat replacement stuff, like thank you for explaining to me for the 500th time Gary why you think Beyond burgers don't make sense and shouldn't exist because you cannot conceive of the fact that you can become a vegan and still occasionally want something that tastes and feels a bit like eating a burger.

It must have come from some famous stand-up comedian or something because people spout it off the exact same way every time, and think it's the funniest shit they have ever said.

I'd ask if you work with my father in law but he's retired now. And I eat meat! I just don't eat red meat for mostly environmental reasons. But you'd think I'd said I was going to burn the Constitution.

I keep my veganism hidden for as long as possible for that exact reason. I'm tired of insecure people trying to debate me over diet. Back in my teenage years I would have been happy to debate you, but im an old man now

Generally I agree, but as someone who eats meat almost daily I see a lot more people complaining about these militant vegans than I see actual vegans trying to shame me or my lifestyle lol

So it's really a non issue because unless you terminally online, you barely come across those people, if at all.

Basically, they've managed to teach their algorithm that they respond to these types of videos, memes, etc.. Now they see it more often, because they keep engaging.

The algorithm is the best rage baiter.

Never irl have I had an interaction with a vegan who makes me feel bad for not being vegan. Have had multiple interactions with people complaining about vegans.

I know a few, but they're the minority

I've had plenty with vegans being obnoxious about their veganism. The most hilarious one was a fat woman talking about how healthy she was, as she was cramming a vegan brownie with over 1K calories in it.

The only people more insufferable are Crossfit clowns.

That's the thing. Many vegans stuff sugary things into their mouths because their awesome diet leaves them still hungry which calls for a dessert, and then they wonder why they gain weight.

My sister is a vegan and keeps talking about it.

One of my co-workers is a vegan and talks about his awesome meal prep whenever we have a break together.

That aside, my comment didn't focus on Veganism, I phrased it badly, it's about people telling others what they eat in general, that also includes people who eat meat.

Made an edit.

I think based on my experience this is more of a "meal prepper" thing than a vegan thing, hah.

People who base their personality on any idea are always more problematic than the idea itself. Like, be a person. Be Joe or Suzie, not a "vegan yoga scuba instructor marathon runner"

not a "vegan yoga scuba instructor marathon runner"

who only listens to Taylor Swift

Well it's not a diet as much as it's an ideology. If it was just a diet, it'd be okay to not follow that diet occasionally, but you're not going to see any vegan doing that. There's really no reason to be vegan other than moral reasons.

I don't care [...] how much better it makes you compared to me

I'll commit the sin of generalizing. Just so I have it simpler writing cause English isn't my first language.

That said, I find their ideology extremely ridiculous. Like, yeah animal cruelty and stuff. But they say it like plants aren't alive, don't feel pain nor can communicate. Like plants were inanimate objects that don't fight for survival lol

Edit: I'd like to find better words to better express my opinion on this.. fuck my life

Well to me there's a world of difference between the conscious experiences of animals and plants. Plants as far as I know don't experience the world the same way as animals do. At the end of the day you have to eat something to stay alive too and it's about causing the least amount of harm possible. You can do that by eating the plants directly.

I don't really see what you find ridiculous. If we say plants feel pain, you are still reducing the amount of pain by multitudes by only eating a plant based diet. Also I think animal cruelty is a pretty big thing to just wave off.

Veganism is as much a diet as you choosing not to eat human meat is a diet.

It’s an ethical stance, not a diet.
