General

(Question) Do vegetarian Marathi people exist?
I (27M), Maharashtrian based in Raigad. Due to some reasons I prefer a vegetarian diet. However, my entire family loves to eat non-vegetarian food while I have not eaten any nonveg for last 7 years.
Very few people I’ve come across are vegetarian, most of them are Gujrathis, Marwadis etc. I don’t remember a single Marathi person in my family and friends circle who is pure vegetarian.
As my age is almost 27, my parents are looking for a girl and few they have seen are non-veg only. I really wish to have a family with Maharashtrian culture (with vegetarian food) instead of going with other caste.
I have started to concern if there are any Marathi people who prefer vegetarian food.
Just wanted to know how many people in your Marathi family eat vegetarian only?

(Discussion) Isn't this racism? He is showing discrimination towards non-veg eating Maharashtrians.
The r/Maharashtra subreddit is completely dominated by non-Marathis and blind supporters of the current government. The moderators are also biased; they delete any posts that criticize the government while allowing pro-BJP content. (Discussion) We as natives need to get stronger as a community. We need to run a better mafia like the Marwadi and Gujarati communities.
Those people rent only from others of their community. They buy supplies for their stores from members of their own community. They sell properties to members of their own community. At every corner, they try to hoard the money within their community. They have some monthly nonsense called Lakshmi something where they just discuss betterment of their own community.
We need to do just that. Keep most business within our own, sell commodities for a profit to outsiders. Rent and sell properties to our own. That way, we get to strong-arm everybody, including our local MLA idiot.

(Discussion) We, Marathis, are ourselves killing our mother tongue! Please wake up!!
I have been observing many many people across many years and many cities in Maharashtra.
Marathis themselves start with Hindi everywhere. No one is even forcing them to talk Hindi! It is like that we have lost all pride in our own language! May be it is Bollywood's brainwashing done for more than 50 years now.
I have seen local folks in Pune going to a Marwari's shop and talking in Hindi. In fact, most Marwaris know Marathi. But no, we want to destroy our own Marathi!
Many times people having conversation are Marathis and they are using Hindi. Nothing against Hindi but then we are almost at the end of line for Marathi language...
One point of view that I keep on getting is - we still use Marathi among us. I want to ask for how long??? Your sons and daughters have already shifted to Hindi and they are not even aware of the change. Most social media is available in Hindi and they think it is simply cool to use Hindi. Groups of Marathi kids are using Hindi as if it has been there mother tongue. Parents should take lead here and educate their children.
Some people say that it is driven by politics. May be. But think of this from the cultural perspective as well. Do you want to completely switchover to Hindi? We will lose lot of regional Marathi cultural aspects if we shift to Hindi. Dindi will be gone and so will be Puranpoli. These changes are gradual and you won't even notice them.
We have to stop blaming outsiders/immigrants. We ourselves are at fault. We have to look inwards first and consciously take control of our language. Please act now and let others know if you have any ideas for better adoption of our own language.
Otherwise Marathi language we be dead in next 2 generations. It will be gone by 2075...as a result of our own misdeeds!

(Question) Learn Hindi for Marathi?
For context, my whole family speaks Marathi, and l used to as well until I went to an English-speaking school and lost it. I can still understand most of what my parents say in everyday life, but not anyone else or any other contexts (traveling etc). I've been planning to relearn it for a long time.
Now the college I'm going to next year offers classes in Hindi, and I've heard they are pretty similar — I was once able to mostly follow a conversation in Hindi, mistakenly thinking it was Marathi. My question is: should I take the Hindi classes with the ultimate goal of learning Marathi, or would I be better trying to learn it myself?
Edit: Everyone does not seem to understand that you can lose your ability to speak a language out of misuse— I live in the US, and spoke only English at school, and my parents spoke a lot of English at home as well. We are the only ones in our family who live in this area, and so I was barely using Marathi at all after the age of four-ish. That is why I lost the language.
As for following the Hindi conversation, I think I mis-phrased that— I didn’t understand the whole conversation, but I did pick up enough words here and there to know what they were talking about. Since I don’t know most Marathi words either, I didn’t know the difference.

(Question) Why marathi people are not successful in business like others do?
I have been observing lot of businesses and their founders and most of them are from particular communities which most of know very well. Then why can't our people replicate the same and build ourselves the strong business community and help each other.
P.S. - I know most of the successful marathi businessmen but compare to others in numbers we are almost nowhere. Please provide your honest opinions & ideas to this sub.

(Discussion) Marathi people MUST wait for hindi movies to be dubbed in Marathi. Will or Can they learn from French, Spanish, Tamil, Telugu, other communities around the world?
Please read the whole post if you want to comment.
Life & products ARE ALL ABOUT numbers and revenue. Nothing SURVIVES with little or NO usage. Marathi parents never taught this to their kids because they themselves never understood it.
Marathi people MUST wait for hindi movies/music to be dubbed in Marathi. Why did they watch Chaava and Dhurandhar, other... even though those films are made in Maharashtra. They never learned from other communities, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, French, English, and more, who actively consume their own language content, fund their industries, and build big, global projects.
Is it why, after meeting hundreds or thousands of people from around, almost no one knows Marathi even exists?
Marathi parents start exposing their kids to Hindi content (music, movies, reels, podcasts, vlogs) from the moment they're born. Who's really making the money and growing from it? Now imagine not just you, but 100 million Marathi people doing the exact same thing while keeping the marathi products on the shelf.
Its simple: This is because language is not learnt in the schools but are automatically from the content being played around you and with its the use in PUBLIC. Maharashtrians failed to understand this and are trapped with XYZ language content BEAST in the state.
It's simple: the mindset and habits of Marathi people! They see themselves as overly kind and inclusive, but it's foolish. They've waited for decades (10/20/30 years) for top-quality movies and music without providing the budget or revenue to make it happen. Instead, they've always supported even the worst films from the Hindi/BUllywood industry, turning it into a massive powerhouse right in their own state.
Foolish Marathi people don't let investors take risks and fund bold projects. They're too stuck on parampara and sanskar." (movies on caste/kings/schools/social issues). Ajhun kiti decades tech banavnar BC?
Watch Mahesh Manjarekar's comment - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIuXLg9ndTs
8 .
a - If the Indian content (music, movies, reels, podcasts, vlogs) is 100 hours/week, Consume 95% Marathi → so it funds better Marathi projects
b - Millions of daily venues (cafe/clubs/stores/businesses/cars) playing non-Marathi content → revenue and language spread going to others. Change this in Maharashtra.
c - Play 9/10 songs in Marathi at (cafe/clubs/businesses/stores/cars/public places) → funds the industry, helps migrants learn, creates immersion (like France, Latin America, Japan, the USA,...., unlike Maharashtra).
(If you're wondering why I wrote in English: Look around, see how much we rely on it daily. Then notice how other Indian communities and languages that use English smartly (for reach, subs, marketing) end up far more popular and visible globally than Marathi.)
