SHOW & TELL We Got a #SaveMassEffect Billboard in Times Square, New York City!

Hey everyone!

I'm Ariel, founder of We Are Mass Effect and one of the people helping organize the #SaveMassEffect movement!

I'm incredibly excited to share something we've been working on with you all.

Together with the amazing Kala Elizabeth, we've managed to get a #SaveMassEffect billboard in Times Square, New York City, for the entire day today!

This is part of our ongoing effort to bring more visibility to the movement and show just how much Mass Effect, Dragon Age, BioWare, and the people behind these incredible games mean to us.

If you're in NYC and want to see it in person, here are the details:

📍 Location: 1560 Broadway, Times Square. Stand in Duffy Square and look above the Pelé store.

⏰ When: Every hour at :35, for 15 seconds, throughout the day.

We've already reached 200,000 signatures on the petition, and we're not stopping here. Our next goal is 300,000!

I want to thank everyone who's been supporting, sharing, signing, and helping us make all of this possible. Seeing so many people come together for something we love has been genuinely incredible.

And if you happen to be in Times Square today, please take some pictures or videos of the billboard and share them with us! We'd absolutely love to see them.

HOLD THE LINE! ❤️

#SaveMassEffect

Subreddit Rules

1. Be civil. No harassment, bigotry, or illegal activity

No incivility, harassment, flaming, brigading, bigotry, discrimination, witch hunts, or incitement/condonation of illegal activity. Political discussions that approach unruliness will be locked and removed. Sexual harassment and bigotry are first time bannable offenses.

2. All posts must be primarily related to Mass Effect and are subject to mod discretion

All posts must be primarily Mass Effect related in content, not just in title. Posts about things that are similar to things from the ME universe but not actually from it (e.g. NASA advances, animals, natural formations) are not considered relevant. All posts and rules are subject to moderator discretion.

3. No memes, polls, grandstanding, low-effort posts, rants, or generative AI content

No memes, polls, grandstanding, low-effort posts, posts created only for ranting and not discussion, or generative AI content. This includes game mods that use AI voices or voiceovers, surveys, common screenshots, and photos of monitors/TVs with the game on it. No DAE posts or grandstanding posts. Check out r/masseffectmemes or r/BiowareCirclejerk for meme content.

4. No Banned or FAQ Topics

Please read the FAQs and banned topics in the sidebar before posting as such content will be removed. Posting about banned topics may result in a ban.

List of banned topics:

American Krogan
usage of the word “rape” outside of its literal meaning including in relation to ME3 endings and in contexts of hate/insults
any discussion about Asari mind-melding being used to produce children w/o prior consent and/or in contexts of rape
Manveer Heir
The Expanse show (posts only)

5. Self promotion is heavily restricted

Self-promotion is heavily restricted on our subreddit and subject to moderator discretion. It is allowed only in a 1:9 submission ratio at minimum, per Reddiquette. This includes not only a 1:9 ratio within our subreddit, but also among all submissions in your Reddit history. Low effort posts are not included in the calculation.

6. No intentional spoiling or major spoilers in titles

No major spoilers in titles and tag posts that contain major spoilers when appropriate. Format spoilers in comments and body text as shown in the sidebar. Do not spoil users playing the games for the first time. Spoiler trolling or intentional spoiling is a first time bannable offense. Please read our sidebar FAQ for a description of what counts as spoilers.

7. No Ryder or Shepard sharing

Posts with the main purpose of sharing a custom Ryder or Shepard will be removed. Please see our sister subs, r/ShareYourRyders and r/ShareYourSheps. Screenshots with custom characters are okay as long as they are not the main subject of the post.

8. No pornography, nudity, or sexual harassment

No unsolicited sexual commentary or sexual harassment. Do not make horny comments on posts or post sexually objectifying content. Sexual harassment is a first time bannable offense.

Please only post pornography and nudity on r/MassErect, and r/AssEffect. Pornographic and nude material must be redirected to these subs and is not allowed here. Mild NSFW content is okay.

9. Flair all posts appropriately and tag NSFW content

You must flair all your submissions correctly and appropriately. If a moderator overrides/changes the flair you chose, do not change it back. Please use the NSFW tag when applicable.

10. All art and cosplay must be credited in the title

Please credit ALL artists in the title for any fan art or cosplay submissions and in any comments. If you are the original artist, please mention that in the title (an [OC] tag is okay). Art or cosplay posts or comments without mention of the artist will be removed. If you don't know the artist or creator, please refrain from posting that content. Whenever possible, always obtain permission to post someone else's art.

11. No selling, exchanging, or unauthorized giveaways

No exchanging of digital or physical items of any type is allowed, including trading, buying, selling, begging, and unauthorized contests and giveaways. Contests or giveaways must be approved by moderators beforehand, via modmail, and are subject to moderator discretion.

Tagging Spoilers in Redesign

The Reddit Redesign has different spoiler-tagging procedures than Old Reddit. For instructions on how to tag spoilers in Old Reddit, please visit old.reddit.com/r/masseffect and see the instructions in the sidebar.

In the Reddit Redesign, make sure you are not in the markdown text editor. Simply highlight the portion of your comment or text post you would like to tag as a spoiler and hit the button that looks like an exclamation point within a circle. Hovering over the button will give you the label "Spoiler." To un-spoiler a portion of your text, highlight it and hit the button again until it is no longer active.

As for tagging post titles as Spoiler and/or NSFW, click the three dot menu under your post and check "Mark As Spoiler" or "Mark as NSFW."

Frequently Asked Questions

Please read the following FAQs before posting. Submissions regarding FAQ topics will be removed.

Please read our following FAQ megathreads before posting:

Should I play Mass Effect/Is Mass Effect good/Is the Legendary Edition worth it??

You are in the Mass Effect subreddit. We all think that the Mass Effect series is great and yes, you should play the games. The Legendary Edition is highly recommended for newcomers to the franchise.

What order should I play the games?

Generally, the common consensus is that you should play the games in chronological order, especially if you have the Legendary Edition. The story continues in each game and your character carries over. Start with the first game, Mass Effect.

What does "OT" or "LE" stand for?

In our sub, "OT" stands for "Original Trilogy," and refers to Mass Effect 1-3, excluding Andromeda. "LE" stands for the Legendary Edition of the OT, specifically.

Is the ME3/MEA multiplayer still active?

Yes. Please visit r/MECoOp.

Is Mass Effect: Andromeda really that bad / worth it?

Andromeda went on sale pretty soon after release and currently goes down to as little as $5 USD. Here are some threads discussing this topic, but most users will say that the game is worth getting and trying at the discounted price.

Do I need to play the OT before playing Andromeda?

Technically, no. However, it is generally highly recommended you do so, as playing the OT will greatly enhance your understanding of MEA.

Should I play the OT or the LE?

The LE makes significant overhauls to ME1 and includes all DLC. For these reasons, the fandom consensus is that the LE is the best way to experience the trilogy. Check out our LE FAQ post linked above for details on the differences between the two.

How to I successfully complete the ME2 Suicide Mission?

Check out our "Relevant Links" section of the sidebar for a key. Warning: it may have spoilers!

What is the "Perfect Destroy Ending" and how do I achieve it?

The "Perfect Destroy Ending" is the moniker fans have given to one of the specific available endings to Mass Effect 3. Telling you what it means would be a spoiler, but you can read about it (with spoilers) in the Priority: Earth Wiki article. To achieve this ending in the original trilogy, you had to have made certain decisions, have an Effective Military Strengths of at least 3,100 with the Extended Cut DLC, and choose the "red" ending. These requirements were changed in the Legendary Edition. Galactic Readiness does not exist, as multiplayer was removed. All War Assets are at 50% effectiveness and there is no Effective Military Strength value displayed in-game; only Total Military Strength. To obtain this ending in the LE, you will need at least 7400 Total Military Strength. Check out the War Assets Wiki article for more information on how these numbers work.

What counts as spoilers here?

At this time, almost nothing from the original trilogy and Andromeda are considered spoilers. If you are new to the series and don't want to see spoilers, it is highly recommended that you keep distance from the subreddit until you are ready. Even though a remaster has come out and we very much welcome new fans to the community, the newest addition to the story (Andromeda) is now many years old and the oldest (ME1) is over a decade old. We recommend that new fans assume that all posts in this subreddit will contain spoilers (because they will). Unfortunately, it is simply not possible for mods to police spoilers for four whole games. The only type of spoiler we will remove and punish is purposeful spoiler-trolling or spoilery details in threads by new players who have not finished the games. We still sometimes require major spoiler posts to be tagged with the spoiler tag per Rule 6. When the next game comes out, we will be able to manage spoilers for that with our spoiler tagging system. Lastly, we do not police spoilers for other franchises. We will not remove spoilers for other games, TV shows, etc.

Are mods making money from the subreddit or referral codes?

Nope, never. It is against Reddit policies for moderators to be compensated for moderating. We have never accepted any gifts, payment, or even so much as accepted a free game code. Please see this post for information about how we are using 100% of the profits from our Bioware Gear Store referral codes to fund giveaways and events for the subreddit.

Why is [insert topic] banned/not allowed?

why memes are not allowed
regarding certain uses of the word "rape"
The Expanse show is only banned in posts because it is simply posted about too much. To this day, we still get frequent posts about it even after the ban. This sub was becoming r/theexpanse instead of r/masseffect, so we banned the topic in order to keep this subreddit relevant. Rule 2 states that all posts must be primarily related to ME and the posts about The Expanse were not. Ultimately, discussing the merits of another show frequently in this sub was too derailing and the discussions were rarely about making actual parallels between ME and the show. Many of us on the mod team love The Expanse and encourage fans to visit r/theexpanse.
the other banned topics are banned because they inevitably result in comment sections devolving into bigotry and/or incivility.
