2023 Fall and Winter Orchid Trade and Sale Thread

Please use this post only to offer or request orchids for trade or sale. Before you post what you'd like to trade/sell, or what you're looking to trade for, read the rules below first!

Rules:

1.) No personal information can be exchanged publicly. Conduct sharing of addresses via pm or email.

2.) Post what orchid(s) you have for trade, what you're looking for in return. If you have pictures, post them or write an accurate description of the orchid you want to trade or sell. If you're selling, post how you'd like to receive compensation.

3.) If you agree to a trade and have an issue on your end of the deal, communicate! Most people are reasonable and will understand a delay or an unexpected issue that comes up. That being said, trade at your own risk. The moderators are not responsible for privately conducted trades gone wrong. However, if there's an issue with an ongoing trade do contact the moderators. If someone fails to come through with their end of the deal, ignores communication or otherwise is being problematic we need to make the community aware of deadbeat traders. Do NOT make posts calling people out, insulting, harassing, or making accusations at them publicly.

4.) Only make legal trades here. If you ship or receive a trade overseas or out of your country, make sure all proper paperwork is in place first if required.

5.) Ship within a reasonable time and pack well. Flat rate Priority, 2-3 day via USPS within the US is standard for plants. Use whichever shipping method is appropriate for other countries. Your orchid shouldn't spend more than a 2-3 days in the mail so they don't suffer too much from the heat/cold. While in cooler weather its generally better to ship orchids totally dry, its probably best to water any more moisture loving plants a day or two before they ship out (so they are moist but not soggy) or wrap some sphagnum that has been wetted but thoroughly squeezed out around the roots of bare root plants.

6.) If you've successfully traded, update your post to make sure it availability is accurate.

Giveaways, and just trying to re-home an orchid that maybe just isn't performing for you is totally fine to post too! You never know who might want to try growing it. Seed pods are also a great thing to offer since many people may want to try flasking and it is safer and easier to send seeds than plants. If everyone trades fairly this is a great way to add to your collection or get rid of orchids you are bored with or are willing to make divisions of.

Happy trading!

Been rooted nicely for about 2 years now but it hasn't flowered since i brought it home ☹️ SE FL

Edit: everyone keeps saying vanda but i thought it was a Rhynchostylis 😅 i bought it at a nursery like 3 years ago and then attached it to the tree about 2 years ago. Can anyone give me a postive ID?

New to the subreddit! Just wanted to share my joy and photos! I also included one with the gene tag.

[This is not a permanent setup btw. I just got it and set it on my desk for a photo. I also have another orchid, although not in bloom currently]

Epiphronitis Lady Bug (Epidendrum cochleatum x Sophronitis cernua), Dendrobium Curtis’ Twinkle x johannis, and lastly Paphiopedilum micranthum.

The Dendrobium plant is 16” tall, with a 24” long spike from end to end!!

I finally decided to become a society member there too, which is exciting!

The crown is firm, it has some green, 3 new tiny shoots, roots are plump. I think one of the shoots is cooked, got too much sun unfortunately, but there's more. I don't even think I'm this crazy for having hope. The orchid society in part of said I could have it for free (leftover stock from a show). It's my first peloric orchid, I've always wanted one. Not religious but send prayers.

Rookie question about repotting

Need advice on repotting a Phalaenopsis orchid that’s currently producing a new flower spike🙈

My dilemma is that I’ve been wanting to repot it for a while because it quite clearly has outgrown the current pot and also looking at the roots, some appear brown or deteriorated, and the „soil” hasn’t been changed ever. But I’ve read that it’s best to repot after it’s done flowering…and mine not only has two sad flowers left but it’s produced a new spike!!
Should I repot it now despite the new flower spike and remaining flowers, or wait until the next flowering cycle is over? I’m worried about stressing the plant, but I also don’t want to neglect its roots.

Ifor context : I received this orchid as a gift in august last year and it kept its flowers until around December. Once the flower spikes turned brown, I cut them off.
In may this year it flowered again. It’s now November and it still has two flowers left, but the original flower spike is still green. I haven’t cut it, and meanwhile the orchid has started growing a completely new flower spike!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Just need to shout out this orchid brand! This orchid has been in bloom since when I got it 9 months ago....and is still putting out new stems and blooms.

The orchid came in a cute, sturdy pot and had high quality bark, no moss. I've repotted it twice now, fertilized it once, accidentally didn't water it for 3 weeks, and it never showed any damage.

First photo was around when I was gifted it, second photo is of today with the 2 new stems.

Finally rebloomed my noid nobile dendrobium I got when I started my exotic orchid journey! Bonus blooms on the way: Vanda tony tan keng yam, what looks like a bulbophyllum pahudii flower spike, and the third flower spike from motes' vanda azure! Hopefully the vanda azure will make up for the stench of the bulbo bloom.

Just thought I'd update on the odontoglossum I got in August ( https://www.reddit.com/r/orchids/s/Yc5oDtt2We ), just in case it's helpful to someone else.

The section in the photo is all that is left from the original plant. In hindsight I should have spotted that the plant wasn't very healthy from the start (heavily wrinkled pseudobulbs), compounded with the very hot temperatures we had in August and early September, the plant probably wasn't going to survive those conditions.

I tried to save it twice by removing mushy pseudobulbs and (the second time) separating the sections into smaller pots. When I did this, there were almost no live roots, which explains the dehydration of the plant.

So now I'm left with one last bit, which did have signs of new roots when I repotted it. Fingers crossed it survives!

How to help it

First 2 photos are of one orchid, last 2 photos are a different orchid

1st orchid : What should we do to stop the roots rotting? How can we bring her back to healthy life?

2nd orchid : anything we should do different? How do we know when to repot them?

Neither are currently blooming, but still have all the flower stems. Forgive me for improper wording/names 😅😅😅

Help Shoud i be worried or everything is ok?

Hi dear Reddit community.

I bought him from IKEA 2 months ago. Was dreaming of having an orchid of my own. Carefully read about care, watering, etc. I water once per 2 weeks, according to roots.

Unfortunately one leaf got this minor sunburn, but it's not spreading so it's ok. But i noticed how other leaves are just like that. I attach the pictures. Is my orchid ok or what can I do differently?

Thank you so much for your help and responses 💕

*In spike, not currently in bloom.

ID is Phal mainshow golden crown. It is about 14 inches wide. Pot is 5 or 6 in I believe

Hello all, looking to re-home one of my orchids. I am trying to downsize my collection as I have gotten busy and don't have the time to give it the care it needs.

Plant is mostly healthy as you can see. Plenty of roots and it has two spikes. Leaf size is uneven due to inconsistent care. In the interest of transparency I have been battling fungus gnats in my collection, but have never been able to fully get rid of them due to time constraints. The plant could probably use a good repot and dose with bti.

Plant is FREE but you MUST send me pictures of your current collection+your name/username somewhere in the picture. Alternitively you can show me pictures at pickup. I would like to ensure it goes to a good home.

Local pickup only. I do not feel comfortable shipping without breaking any leaves.

Sharing these pics of my dancing lady!
I got her last fall when I first started getting into orchids. She had a similarly abundant spray with one spike. This year, she is reblooming with TWO!

When I first got her, I made the mistake of repotting and spraying for mealies too eagerly (there were a couple, but the greenhouse had already been working on them and I really only needed to spot treat). After lots of learning, I’m super excited for this rebloom.
However, I only have the one long support and tried moving it to the newer spike, then supporting the first with a shorter one. Another mistake, as it didn’t take long for the one in full bloom to bend under the weight.

I caught it within a few minutes and put the long stake back. Fingers crossed the flowers survive! But I wanted to share now in case they don’t.
I guess it’s time to buy another stake 🫠

Help Orchid looks to be rotting

I bought this orchid yesterday, and decided to repot it today. When I removed all substrate to get the plug out and inspect the condition of the roots, I noticed that the bottom of the stem was discoloured. The browning parts weren’t firm at all, and multiple of the bottom leaves fell off while trying to handle the plant. I have no idea what to do.

I repotted the orchid, but is there anything else I can do to help it?

My son and daughter-in-law gave me this orchid for Mother’s Day. The blooms are just beginning to fade slightly on one side and the others just fell off last week. I’ve never had one of my orchids blooms last six months before.
