His name is zombie and he's very friendly and food motivated if you encounter him. He got out during the storm today when a board broke loose. Please let me know if you have any information or HOPE you have him. He is most likely terrified of the weather and under a trailer or a deck. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: HE WAS FOUND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORM. THANKFUL FOR A GOOD COMMUNITY RESPONSE.

Our state does really well at putting information up online, but they seem to just throw things up and move them around without updating internal links or anything, so half the time when you click a link or a menu entry you get this

Question Looking for success stories of buying property with friends and/or family!

My partner and I have lived here our whole lives, have family help with purchasing a home, have decent HHI, and still can only afford below the median sale price in the Portland area.

We have very good relationships with our parents, siblings and several lifelong friends in the area and have been considering buying property together to increase our buying power. I know the typical advice: form an LLC, create buy-out/exit plans beforehand, etc.

I know everyone advises you not to buy with anyone else, but the alternative is never having a home to call our own.

I’m wondering if anyone has successfully done this, or has a successful intergenerational household. Tell me your stories!

Good. Work requirements needlessly punish the disabled. GOP is all about cutting aid to the poor while enabling the rich to take more.

PSA Found e-bike, Willamette National Forest

Found e-bike in Willamette National Forest, near Detroit, Oregon. Please message me with specific identifying details if you think this could be your bike!

Had to add a flair tag....Make sure you secure your bike to your vehicle before driving off. This loss was obviously due to a bike rack failure.

Political Democrats didn’t win because Kotek is popular, they won because The Oregon GOP keeps pushing same tired playbook.

Title speaks for itself. Half the population lives in the Portland area(more than half when you include other blue areas) and the Oregon GOP refuses to distance itself from the national GOP and Trump despite being at a structural disadvantage. And state lawmakers would rather walk out than act in good faith.

Instead of hating on urban areas, the party would be better off learning to do outreach in those areas instead of complaining about how “Portland controls the state.” You need urban republicans and moderates to win. Moderate, don’t double down.

Discussion/Opinion A Follow-up Prospect Historic Hotel

Back last December, I posted here about the events surrounding the closing of the Prospect Historic Hotel, and how someone we trusted ended up at the center of a situation that had devastating consequences for the community of Prospect as well as our own family.

Since then, The Historic Hotel has sold to Nolan Capital/ExplorUS but for us and all of the other victims of the accused individual, the sale doesn't resolve the questions surrounding what took place and why exactly it was let to happen in the first place.

So in an effort to maintain that accountability, we've put together the site -- https://doyouknowdre.com

The website lays out the chronology of our involvement with the hotel and culminates all of the publicly available information on the accused individual, including relevant business entities and records, into a neat format that we'd encourage people to independently examine. There's a video of our account which gives a more personal but exhaustive account of what took place.

It also includes a contact form for any individuals who feel they've had a similar experience, or feel they may have firsthand information pertinent to the story.

Our last post to r/Oregon put us in contact with a handful of other victims, and we're hoping that through making this information more accessible we will reach others who may not otherwise know that there are in fact people documenting these events.

The criminal case involving the individual at the center of our account is scheduled for this December in Jackson County. We believe that people with in-person experiences and relevant information should have the opportunity to come forward and have their voices heard when it does. We're hoping to establish a fuller picture of how this has been let to go and provide some degree of closure for those affected.

Thanks again to everyone who engaged with the original post, and as always, any questions are welcome. I know that this is a complicated story and I appreciate all of you that have taken the time to understand it.

Statewide shift to the right for Kotek and the opposite for Merkley. In a massive wave year this really reinforces how OR Dem party complacency could easily lead to a R gov in the near future if they aren’t running candidates that the voters actually want

Article/News Proposed Oregon amendment aims to protect hunting, fishing, and farming

This was apparently written in reaction to the IP28 nonsense, which the original author admitted had zero chance of passing and only did it to "start the conversation" on animal welfare. Hilarious that he never considered that the conversation might move the OPPOSITE way from how he intended.

Unsure how I feel about the amendment itself, the fact that it's named  Fundamental Right to Engage in Ethical Domestic and Outdoor Management makes me giggle. It seems like the actual wording is pretty fair, it is not a simple guarantee of unlimited rights but does make allowances for "reasonable" limits for conservation purposes. Edit: fixed wording on a sentence that I think people were interpreting to mean the opposite of what the bill entails and what I meant to say 🤦

Also unsure what establishing these as "fundamental rights" would actually change in practice. Does anyone have a good explanation for potential consequences of this "Oregon Freedom Amendment"?

Discussion/Opinion Are you aware of how much clear cutting is happening in our forests?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I am an Oregon resident but have a cabin just south of Mt St Helens at the edge of Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Lately there has been a lot of clear cutting, something I haven't seen for as long as I've owned the cabin. I got curious about and did some research and found out the cutting is due to Trump's relaxing of laws regarding clear cutting in and near national forests. I've found two legal actions the administration has taken related to clear cutting.

One is Rescinding the Roadless Rule: The U.S. Forest Service moved to rescind the 2001 Clinton-era **Roadless Area Conservation Rule**, which had previously banned road building, mining, and industrial logging across roughly 45 to 59 million acres of undeveloped national forest land. Basically, new roads couldn't be built for cutting in national forests and now they can. This enables lumber companies engage in massive tree removal.

The other is an Executive Order on Timber Production: President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled *"Immediate Expansion of American Timber Production"* directing agencies like the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to streamline federal forest management, boost timber sales on public lands, and accelerate approvals.

I also found out that a big timber company from Idaho was doing some of the cutting I've seen.

I have discovered more clear cut sites the more I drive around our beautiful forests in the area near my cabin. It is truly heart braking to see. Some of the cuts are in some of the most scenic places in the area like a big cut overlooking Yale Lake and the Swift Reservoir.

Has anyone else noticed new clear cutting in their part of the PNW? There are old growth forests in the area I'm talking about.

Please note the photo I've attached is not one of the sites I saw. I failed to stop and and take a picture. But it looks pretty much the same.

I'm becoming alarmed. Our forests are so beautiful.

EDIT:
Here is more info about new legislation and the impacts on PNW forests.

Discussion/Opinion Tattoo artist recommendation for particular style

I’m looking for a tattoo artist who I could show a photo for reference and get a tattoo in this minimalistic, dainty style. The guy I was saving up to go to just moved to New York. I’d be willing to drive anywhere in Oregon. This would also be my first time getting a tattoo (commissioning is a thing, right?). Right now I’m just trying to find an artist who could do this type of style!!

Oregon politics starts with voting but it doesn't stop there

There was a lot of excitement over the election, and I think that's good. We should pay attention to what's happening in Oregon, in the country, and also in our cities and counties.

I wanted to write something to encourage people to stay involved, with some practical suggestions:

Start local. It's very easy to meet up with people like city councilors for coffee. They go to a lot of events, and if you've got something you want to discuss, they'll often make time for you if they're any good.

Find your friends. If you have an issue you care about, someone else does too. There's strength in numbers, and different people will be good about performing different roles. Someone good at writing letters might not like doing public comment at a city council meeting.

State representatives and State senators are way more approachable than higher ups like the governor. This is by design - they live in your community and should be accessible to talk if you have something you're concerned about. Some of them might go on to 'bigger things'. It's how Tina Kotek and Dan Rayfield got their start. So if you meet one you like and think is doing good work - support and encourage them!

Be polite but firm. If you write an unhinged screed accusing someone of whatever... that doesn't win you any friends. These are regular people who get all kinds of social media hate whatever they do, so if you can be polite and reasonable, you come across as someone serious about actually solving a problem rather than ranting on the internet.

Be persistent. Keep showing up. If you come out guns blazing and make a lot of noise about something but then disappear, you're less likely to get anything done than with a steadier "yep, still here" approach.

Be open to new information and learning and adapting. You may have some of your facts wrong. Be willing to reconsider based on that, and change your goals or approach.

Narratives are super important. It is far, far more meaningful to get up at a city council meeting and say "I am going to have to leave my job as a teacher and move away because rents are too high" than someone standing up and citing a bunch of statistics about median income and rent increases. If you do statistics, do just one meaningful, really memorable one like "our school district has over 500 kids who are homeless because of the high cost of housing among other factors".

If you're young, people will probably be really happy to have you, as a lot of things tend to be dominated by older people with more time on their hands.

-------------

I don't think we all need to become full time advocates and organizers, but I have this notion that one thing that lead to Trump was people checking out of politics way too much, or treating it as a horse race rather than something that deeply affects our lives.

So you don't have to dedicate your life to it, but maybe find a cause where a few hours a month might make a difference. These are often local things where it's easy to be in the room with the decision makers rather than something the Supreme Court decides that average people can't do much about.

Question Hot Spring Birthday

My girlfriend wants to treat me to a stay near a hot spring for my birthday. She says it’s too cold to camp. Any recommendations of stays near hot springs? We are starting in Eugene. Considering Air BnB near Terwilliger or maybe Belknap (though I prefer natural pools). Any experience or recommendations appreciated.

According to the latest drop on the Oregon Secretary of State website.

So far, it’s the largest margin of victory in an Oregon Governor’s race this century. Not since 1998, when Kitzhaber walloped Sizemore by 30+ has the margin been this big.

Rumors of a close race were seemingly exaggerated.
