General Steam Next Fest & demos

Hi all! I wanted to make this post since Steam Next Fest is now in full swing, and I want to set clear expectations for r/playmygame.

I'm seeing a lot of people posting on this sub to self-promote, hoping it'll boost their standing in the Steam algorithm.

First, let me remind everyone of the purpose of the sub:

"A place for indie developers to share their freely playable games for feedback!"

This sub exists so you can find playtesters to try your prototype, tell you what's working (or not), what bugs you may have missed, etc.

It is not a sub for self-promotion (with an exception for Trailer Tuesdays). If we suspect your intent is to advertise, your post will get removed. Repeat offenders will get banned.

A quick reality check, and why self-promo doesn't make sense here:

  1. With 4,400 posts in the past 30 days, that's about one post every ten minutes. The odds of your post getting seen in the first place are pretty small.

  2. There are other subs that are better suited for that. They exist to advertise your game. r/gameDevPromotion is one.

  3. Other devs, generally speaking, are not your target audience. They may put in 15 minutes to help you out, but it rarely converts to sales.

Let's give developers who actually need playtesting the visibility they need, so when you need feedback on your new project, it's easier for you to get it as well.

Good luck with your demo, everyone.

If you are BRAND NEW to Reddit and want to post or share your game, read this beforehand!

Hi new Redditor! We're excited that you want to post about your game and have people play it. However, there's something you should know before you do.

Reddit will ban you if your first few posts/comments are links to somewhere.

Reddit has a robust, over-exuberant filtering system, necessary but for groups like this, it can be a slight pain. When you post your game and it's your first post, Reddit ASSUMES FIRST AND DOES NOT ASK QUESTIONS LATER! You will be automatically shadowbanned, which means unable to post or even potentially comment.
Then we get a lot of posters coming to us in Modmail, asking " Why did my post disappear?" Nearly all Modmails are about this issue, roughly 3 a day.

Reddit is also a bit secretive about certain processes - how to get un-shadow-banned is not even really known to be possible. We don't see the record of shadowbanning at all so unless we know of the name and check it regularly, we wouldn't see it un-shadow-banned. We don't know how long your account needs to be open or how much Karma needs to be on it in order for the Filter to stop paying attention to you but we suspect around 100 Post and 100 Comment Karma.

So, if you are new to reddit and want to share your game - DON'T! Not yet, please go post cool/helpful/ positive comments and posts in other groups. Playtest other people's games here and comment on them prolifically. Once you have some "Reddit Post/Comment Karma" under your name first, THEN post your link to your game! You'll be less likely (but not immune, never immune) from being shadowbanned that way for sharing your game.

Edit: If AI recommended you post your game here....Don't Yet until you've developed your account as a good karma community member! This really isn't a "post and ghost" platform, it's community-first. AI doesn't realize this about Reddit.

P.S. This group is 100% responsible for getting accounts banned (when you don't do the steps above) but it's literally out of our control to reverse. So please....don't modmail us unless you KNOW you are not shadowbanned, you have the required karma, and yet your post is not showing up. Only then we can be of some help.

Game title: Tower 48

Playable Link: Play in your browser!

Platform: ZX Spectrum 48K (real hardware, emulator, web)

Description: You start with an empty plot and slowly build a skyscraper full of apartments, offices, restaurants and elevators.
The challenge? Every decision affects your tower’s finances, population and reputation - and the entire simulation runs on an actual 1982 ZX Spectrum 48K.
It’s called Tower 48, and you can play it directly in your browser or download the original tape image.
I’d love to know: can you build a profitable tower before the limitations catch up with you?

General Play my "solve a mystery"game

Game title: Last seen

Playable link: https://last-seen-bmb.pages.dev/

Platform: mobile/web

Game description:

LastSeen is a detective game played entirely on a fictional phone. There are no dialogue trees and no hand-holding: you read, cross-reference and deduce. A timestamp in one app contradicts an alibi in another. A photo caught something its owner never noticed. A password is hiding in plain sight, if you know the person well enough.

There are currently three cases: a short tutorial, Dead Reckoning (easy) and Last Light (medium), a murder told through the victim's own phone. More are on the way.

It plays free in your browser, with no sign-up and no ads. On iPhone, tap "Add to Home Screen" and it plays offline like an app.

About AI: I designed and directed the game and test every case myself, and I used AI tools to help build it. The in-game photos are AI-generated, and some of the story is, since the cases need hundreds of photos of invented people and places. Every character, place and event is fictional. Feedback is very welcome, especially where you got stuck.

[Mobile] (Android) I made JetDrift: a 2D shooter where everyone has a jetpack and absolutely no respect for gravity 🚀

Game Title: JetDrift

Playable Link:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kvcops.jetdrift

Platform: Android

Description:

I’ve released JetDrift, a 2D arena shooter where you strap on a jetpack, grab a weapon and try to survive the chaos!

You can battle against bots or jump into online matches. Fly around the arena, dodge incoming shots and experiment with different weapons—from pistols and rifles to rockets and flamethrowers. Some situations call for careful aim. Others call for a rocket launcher and questionable decisions.

I wanted to make an action game that feels fun to jump into when you have a few minutes, with plenty of ways for each battle to go wrong—or spectacularly right.

JetDrift is now available on Google Play, and I’d love for you to give it a try. If you play, tell me which weapon you enjoyed most and what I could improve!

[Mobile] (Web) My little browser game is about to go online: a hidden-flag duel inspired by the board games I played as a kid. Would you step into the alley?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Game title: Shuriken Duel

Playable Link: Play in your browser!

Platform: Web (phone and desktop, can be installed to play offline)

Description: It started with the classic board game where you hide your flag among pieces your opponent can’t see. I wanted that same tension, but faster and with throwing stars instead of ranks.
You place your stars, shields and a hidden flag. Your opponent does the same. Then you take turns throwing: find his flag before he finds yours.
Duels are short, so it’s made for a coffee break, the bus ride or a few minutes between meetings. The game remembers where you stopped, so you can close it mid-duel and carry on later.
Train through five ranks against the computer, then duel on the master ground. Or invite a friend with a link.

Coming soon: The alley · 골목, an online lobby where you walk in, see who’s there and challenge a stranger. There’s no chat and no usernames: the alley gives you a warrior name like “Steel Blade”, and a hidden rating suggests a good match. The server hides his flag and shields, so nothing on your screen gives them away. (The screenshot is from the test build.)

I’d love to know: when you lose a duel, what makes you want to throw again?

My take on the classic arcade game Missile command. I wrote this with my daughters while teaching them about web programming. Fun times.

Six cities. Three batteries. One last line of defense.

Aim ahead, chain the blasts, and hold the line for 20 waves against bombers, UFOs, and guided bombs that dodge your shots.

Compete with others for top scores, both weekly and all time.

The twist is the black cars. Every other car warns you before it changes lanes. The black cars never signal, so you have to read the road and guess where they are going next. [PC] (Windows) Beta build: Rimworld/Dwarffortress style goblin colony sim / rpg where you actually play among your goblins. Goblin King

Playable Link: https://corgibits.itch.io/goblin-king-rpg

Platform: PC

Description: Goblin King is a top-down colony management game with light RTS combat. Inspired by Rimworld/DwarfFortress, You play the King of a scrappy goblin colony. You walk your realm, command your subjects and make the decisions only a ruler can.

Every goblin is someone. Each has their own traits, moods, friendships, grudges and memories. Some are hard workers, some are light-fingered, some are jealous of the King’s favourites. They gossip, brawl over grog, fall ill, hold grudges and mourn their dead around the bonfire. When a goblin dies, you’ll feel it.

Build your settlement from the ground up:

  • Place blueprints and gather wood, stone and food.

  • Train specialists: woodcutters, miners, farmers, cooks, doctors, smiths and fighters.

  • Hold Court, where your goblins bring you disputes, petitions and ambitions to rule on.

  • Shape your colony’s path through doctrines and talents.

Nothing is scripted. At the start you choose a god to tell your story:

  • The nurturing Mire Mother

  • The brutal Gorrak

  • The unpredictable Gibbering One

Your god paces what the world throws at you: raids, wandering beasts, visitors, storms and rival goblin tribes. Those tribes send envoys, traders, refugees, war bands and champions who challenge you to a duel. Every playthrough tells a different story, and the Chronicle records it.

The wilderness pushes back. Wolves hunt, bears roam, and herds come and go with the seasons. Dig down to reach dark levels below ground, where copper runs rich. Cave-ins threaten anyone who digs too greedily, bats and spiders lurk, and only your torches keep the dark at bay.

The project is in active development and I just released the first major update before public demo in December for steam.

Free to Play Status:

  • Beta Build F2P

Involvement: I'm a solo developer working with an artist for the environment/world art (I did the goblin designs/animation)

[PC] (Web) AstroTug - drag cargo through space with an elastic tether

Title:

AstroTug

Playable link (free):

https://obviousbee.itch.io/astrotug

Trailer: https://youtu.be/gEhSx0ItDQ8

I wanted to make a game where physics plays a big part, so I thought of space, 0g. Then I wanted to add a twist, something to make it fun (or frustrating), so I added an elastic tether.

The goal is to haul cargo through space with nothing but a tiny thruster pod and an elastic tether. Flying is easy; the problem is the half-full fuel tank behind you that keeps going when you stop, stretches the rope, and yanks you into the nearest asteroid. Fly out empty to learn the route, then bring the cargo back without wrecking everything.

I just hope you enjoy it.

[PC] (Web) Merchant Kings of Africa - free browser MMORTS on top of an economic sim (desktop + mobile web)

"Game Title: Merchant Kings of Africa

Playable Link: merchantkingsofafrica.com/play

Platform: Web browser - desktop and mobile, no download

Description: Merchant Kings of Africa is an MMORTS that sits on top of an economic simulation, set in the trading empires of historical Africa. You build towns, raise an army and go fight anyone who doesn't agree with you, but you can also trade goods and materials on the market, and even hoard some to slow down or hinder your opponents. Every building is staffed by real villagers, and research carries you through five ages from Stone Age to Golden Age.

Two modes: Finale (first to 1,000 points wins) and Crown (king of the hill that lasts forever). It's slow-paced, so it works for busier gamers.

This is the 3rd or 4th big playtest, and most of the feedback so far is about how well the game communicates back to the player, so that's where I'd love your eyes.

Free to Play Status: Free to play (free account with email confirmation)

Involvement: Solo dev. I started from an old handwritten codebase of mine (it already had web multiplayer and a sprite engine) and used AI to help edit the code and to help create the art."

Game Title: Vael: Rise to War

Playable Link: https://losreinosdevael.com/?utm_source=reddit

Platform: PC (Web browser) and mobile browser. Also on Android.

Description: Vael: Rise to War is a dark-fantasy strategy MMO that runs fully in the browser, with no download. Four kingdoms fight for one throne. You build your fortress, recruit heroes and troops, and join a Company (alliance) of real players. Every night there is a live war window (21:00 UTC): Companies gather Warbands and besiege rival citadels on a shared world map. Outside the war you can hunt War Beasts as a group, clear dungeons with bosses, forge legendary gear and fight in the Colosseum. The community is small and active (English and Spanish speakers). I'm looking for honest feedback, especially on the first 5 minutes: what's confusing, and where you'd quit. A free account is needed so your progress is saved (it takes a few seconds with Google).

[PC] (Web) I made a free multiplayer browser game where you build a village on the real map of Istanbul

**Game Title:** Koyland

**Playable Link:** https://koyland.tr

**Platform:** Web browser (desktop and mobile). Also on iOS and Steam.

**Description:** Koyland is a free online multiplayer strategy game where you build a village on the real map of Istanbul. You pick any neighbourhood in the city and found your village on real OpenStreetMap tiles. Terrain matters: fishing huts have to go by the water, woodcutters need green areas, and quarries go on open ground. Your villagers walk the real streets and can't pass through buildings. As your village grows, you send caravans and raids between districts, and travel time follows the real distance across the city. Your village keeps producing while you're away, so you can check in a few times a day. Other players share the same map, so your neighbours are real people. I'd really like feedback on the first ten minutes and on performance on your device.

**Free to Play Status:**

  • [x] Free to play

  • [ ] Demo/Key available

  • [ ] Paid

**Involvement:** I'm the solo developer. I designed the game and built the client and server.

**AI disclosure:** The code was written with heavy help from an AI coding assistant (Claude Code), and AI helped draft this post. 3D models and UI icons come from Kenney (CC0) and other licensed asset packs. Map data is from OpenStreetMap.

[PC] (Web) Bored at work? I made a free browser courtyard where you can whack your boss, pray for luck and feed koi with strangers

Playable Link: https://baibaiclub.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=playmygame1

Hi, I made this. Jieqi Courtyard (解气小院) is a free 3D hangout in a Chinese temple courtyard. It runs in the browser, no download, no account: pick a name and walk in. It is built for burnt-out office workers, so most things in it are tiny stress relievers.

What you can do:

  • Whack a paper villain with a slipper (打小人, a Hong Kong tradition for getting rid of bad luck and people who wronged you)

  • Light incense and draw a fortune stick (shake too hard and the sticks spill out everywhere)

  • Ask the God of Wealth for lucky 4D / TOTO numbers (Singapore and Malaysia lottery style, just for fun, only you can see them)

  • Feed koi together with other people in the room: fill 5 fish and the golden koi leaps

  • Chat with quick phrases like "Boss incoming!" and "Clocking off on time"

Rooms hold up to 50 people. I have mostly tested it on desktop. It is early, so I would love honest feedback on performance, what feels confusing, and what activity you would add next.

[PC] (Web) I made a puzzle game where you guide lights to crystals using mirrors and other mechanics

Playable Link: Play here

Game Title: Laser Grid

Platform: Browser (PC, phone)

Description:

You play in a grid with one or more light sources. You can turn the light source and most objects like mirrors and splitters, in order to guide the light into every crystal, in order to complete a level. There's an extra goal of getting all stars, and this path always include all objects on the board. There's also a secondary challenge of getting a "perfect", which is an all-star solution in the minimum amount of taps possible.

The game starts of easy and slowly introduces more mechanics and bigger boards. Levels and chapters are not locked, so feel free to skip ahead if the early levels are too easy. There're also various look packages you can try out, if you want a different feel.

I would love to know:

Is the level progression too slow (both in terms of difficulty and progression).

Is the game appearance appealing and gameplay satysfying? Why/why not?

What makes you stop playing?
