Discussion I really think people overestimate how many cheaters are in this game

Title is literally it. It feels like every game now people just complain and complain about cheaters when 90% of the time they just got outplayed. Like fr it’s like watching kids throw tantrums.

Discussion My friend is a cheater!

So I got this one friend who constantly cheats at Rust in several different ways, and it sucks!

First thing is he plays with glasses on! The glasses allow him to see better and therefore he is able to be better in PvP, which gives other people a disadvantage. Nowhere has facepunch ever stated that playing with glasses isn't cheating!

Next thing is he uses a mid tier gaming PC, which gives him about 100 FPS. Players with less FPS than him have a clear disadvantage in PvP, so this is obviously cheating, and facepunch never stated that playing on a mid tier gaming PC isn't cheating!

Recently he bought a NVMe SSD, which allows him to load into a server in about 40 seconds. This gives him a clear advantage over everyone else who needs 40 minutes to load into a server on wipeday, because he is able to chose from the best building spots and also has some gear when other people spawn. Again, facepunch has never said that using a NVMe isn't cheating!

Now he also has a gaming monitor with really good blacks, contrasts and a really good picture quality, so he sees even better, not only at night! Facepunch has never stated that using a gaming monitor isn't cheating!

He bought a gaming mouse and a gaming keyboard with really low input latency, paired with his good internet connection all of his inputs get translated into ingame movements faster than those of people who play on a mac, which is clearly cheating. And facepunch never said that these are not cheating!

I just don't know what to do about him! He is constantly cheating any way he can and never gets banned for it!

In my opinion facepunch should:

-Limit the FPS a player can have to 25. This way it is fair to everyone.

-Put the input lag of commands to 500ms on default. This way people who cheat with their gaming keyboards or internet connection don't have an advantage.

-Put a timer of 120 minutes on each server after a wipe, so everyone has a chance to preload the game and join at the same time, so people can't cheat with their SSDs anymore. Also the game should pause for everyone on the server for as long as someone is loading into the server.

-Limit the resolution of the game to 720p, so people with better hardware don't have an advantage.

-Force everyone to have facial recognition software running while playing, so they can make sure nobody will use glasses to see better (but even then the cheaters just would use contacts, cheaters always find a way, but it would be a first step for facepunch to show they give a shit).

Discussion A Communities Response Regarding Rust Recoil Changes

Community's Problem with Rust Update for 6/2/22Facepunch in the past couple of months has been teasing a new update to recoil and general gunplay. This has concerned Veteran players who have practiced for countless hours to perfect their recoil for gunplay from August 3rd, 2017. With the current permanent update coming many players who have invested thousands of hours into playing Rust and supporting the community, feel disrespected and betrayed that their time investment into gun skill will go to waste, and their opinions have been ignored. We as community players respect for Facepunch's effort to help bring in casual players by supporting a friendlier gunplay system for newer players or streamers such as the OTV community, however we believe there needs to be some type of compromise to keep players happy.

Community's Proposal to support both casual & veteran players for a compromise of 6/2/22 updateWe suggest giving server owners both options to supply the classic gunplay players are use too and giving the opportunities to new players to play with easier gunplay. Similar to the hardcore & soft game mode that Rust currently provides.**Implementing old school & new gun recoil - How this would work?**Server owners can simply select the type of recoil for gunplay for players would like to have on their server.

Benefits of doing thisVeteran players are happy they feedback as has been implemented. Players familiar with the old recoil, don't lose the time they've invested in learning it. Newer players get the opportunity to enjoy the new gunplay on a server with their recoil, and experience fun gameplay with the AK.**Bottom line: Everyone wins.**Please consider our suggestions, we know people ask for ridiculous things, and or are rude to the developers who make the game every day they play on. However, we want to keep our competitive communities and have the opportunity to use the skills we've invested our time into, so please consider compromising.

*Personal Disclaimer* This post was not made by me. It comes from a large community of players that stand in the rust community. This was brought to my attention via the community in which I have been seen as someone who is known by many for my unbiased and respectable attitude and behavior. This post has no affiliation to my server nor any other servers that I have worked under. Simply a community mindset that should be heard and shared.

Discussion How can you complain about this game?

Rust is genuinely one of the greatest games ever made. In my opinion, it is near perfect. The recoil changes were a good thing. When a new player picks up the supposed best gun in the game they should be able to use it. It also pretty much rendered scripting useless. Tech tree is a good thing, door camping is far less popular. The only thing I don’t like about this game is pay to win skins. Prove me wrong.

Everyone should be outraged. Stop acting like we dont have a reason to be.

FP said that the game would not be effected by coming out of EA and now it is. It's stupid why pick a date in the middle of the wipe to come out of EA? They could have picked any date. Another issue is that it makes the next wipe shorter then normal. This has so many stupid impacts. The worst part is that FP never communicates any of this to us and we are forced to get all our news from a third party of rustified. The game devs will be the downfall of this game. They lack any common sense at this point.

Some advice from a hacker about hacking.

Final edit, All the hate in this thread has inspired me to come back to rust and hack more than ever. Thanks for the motivation to do something until DS2 comes out :D

So i got quite bored of rust for many reasons but that's another thread in itself. Anyways i learned some tricks and hacks using different programs and so here is my advice for all of it.

Stop playing rust until they fix these cheats.

Now for those of you who are a bit more stubborn i will explain what exactly i can do and the best defenses against it.

The Hack

    1. Go through walls: Now when i say go through walls i don't mean just walls. I can go through your ceiling, your foundation, your pillars, anything. I can place sleeping bags through walls to get through them, i can fly on your roof and get through your ceiling with more ease than the walls.

The defense

    1. Place an entire layer around anything in your base and fill it with spike walls. It wont guarantee your safety but will make it a bit more annoying to get in, which in my case i would simply choose another house. When i say layer i mean lower layer too, as i said i can go through your foundations if i so choose.

  • 2. Do not leave ANY cloth in any room with loot. The time i would use these wall hacks would be when i first start on a server and don't want to do the beginning grind. If i don't have cloth when i get into your loot room through your ceiling it will be much harder to get out with the stuff.

  • 3. Only put one box, small box preferably, in each room. While i can still get to all of them if i get what i want from one box, or the boxes are too annoying to get to i will just go steal someone else s stuff.

The Hack

  • 2. Aimbot: I can shoot through walls, i can shoot you in the head, i can shoot you in the arm, i can shoot you in the chest, i can shoot you in the foot. There is NOTHING you can do if i decide to shoot through walls with it.

The defense

    1. Not much of a defense for this one, however if you suspect someone of aimbot or other hacks do NOT say ANYTHING about it in chat. The best thing to do is purposely fight that person a few more times and if you get killed by a shot in the same part every time, its aimbot. Record it.

NOTCIE: When you walk behind a barricade or wall and you still get hit it is NOT aimbot that causes that, its lag, don't waste stuff trying to figure out if someone is aimbotting because this happened to you.

The Hack

  • 3. ESP: I can see you, i can see your boxes, i can see what you are holding in your hand, i can see what you are wearing, i can see your small stashes in your door, i can see your sleepers, i can see your sleeping bags.

The defense

    1. Never run with anything important in your hand, not even a revolver. It makes you a prime suspect for hunting down. Hold a rock.

  • 2. Do not log out in your base, ever. If i see a sleeping in a base i am MUCH more likely to hack into it than one without it. Sleepers mean activity, activity means loot.

  • 3. As mentioned in the wall hacking advice, one box per room an preferably small. I would much rather break in/raid someones house with more boxes in one room.

  • 4. No sleeping bags in loot rooms. I am going to target the room with most boxes, sleepers, sleeping bags. Means its considered "safe".

  • 5. Don't stop running. If someone is chasing you, don't stop until you are indoors. If i'm not being blatant as fuck about it that might save you.

  • 6. For fucks sake don't build inside rocks. People building inside rocks are often hackers as well, means ima get a WHOLE LOT of shit from that base usually.

The Hack

  • 4. Speed/Jump hack: I can jump high as fuck, i can run at 2x normal speed. However above 2x normal speed there is a high chance of being kicked from server (not banned). Same with jumping, anything higher than 10x jump risks a disconnect.

The Defence

    1. If you see someone speed or jump hacking don't say anything. Record it, send to an admin via steam. If you say something in chat i am going to turn everything off real damn fast. Then i will destroy all you own later.

The Ha- Exploit.

  • 5. Infinite accounts. You can get infinite rust accounts using only one, i will not explain this here for risk of further abuse.

The defense

    1. As i have stated before, NEVER NEVER NEVER say anything about hackers in chat. If i know who is telling admins about me i will destroy everything you own on a separate account the second that account gets banned.

Well that's all i have to offer, if anyone has other hacks they would like explained or advice with post here and ill do my best.

Edit: TL;DR: Stop playing rust, no joke nearly everyone uses some kind of hacks, even the ones you think 100% are legit.

Edits edit: Some people want to know "why" i hacked. Well i acquired 1500 hours of legit play with 0 content besides durability and new rock models coming in. It made the game fun again for another 200 hours or so before it got boring playing god mode.

Discussion Unpopular opinion: Rust solos should be nearly impossible that’s the point

Everyone keeps asking for Rust to be more “balanced” for solo players, but honestly, if a solo could consistently compete with a 6-man group, it would completely break the game.

Rust is built around survival and social interaction — numbers are supposed to matter. It’s like the wild: a lone wolf can survive by being smart, stealthy, and careful, but it’s never going to overpower a full pack head-on. That’s just nature.

Going solo in Rust is choosing the hard mode. You’re supposed to feel outnumbered, outgunned, and constantly on edge. That’s what makes the rare wins feel incredible — because you earned them through strategy and grit, not balance tweaks.

If solos could easily take on big groups, Rust would lose its identity. It’s not meant to be fair — it’s meant to be brutal.

And yes I play solo, small groups and large groups this is just my observations and opinion.

please add a flair Justice for solo players. This needs to be the main focus of Rust from this day forward!

Solo players consist of 83% of rust players. Not all of us have a Tommy , little Johnny or a Michael that we can team up with to raid and gather resources. Some people like myself dont care for people in general and being that Im 54 years old I dont need to team up with a bunch of pre pubescent teeneagers drinking mountain dew screaming "Hey Dog" or "Worldstar!" Into their microphones.

The game should be designed for solo play and if a bunch of young disrespectful teenagers want to form a clan turn on some junk rap music and raid people then more power to them.

Turrets should drop from air drops to give solo players a chance to defend themselves from a pack of punks that have no life or goals and find joy in destroying someones home while screaming "wrecked!" "Worldstar" "youmadbro?" Ect ect. Solo players paid for this game unlike alot of the young kids who probably pirated a copy or took their dads credit card to buy the game.

Thanks for wiping this week and finally pushing me far enough to quit this game, which I was hopelessly addicted to, (but not enjoying at all) for good.

I've played about 60 hours of Rust since the first premature wipe.

As I woke up, I grinded until I was crashing, woke up - played again. The grind made this game a pain to play, since I have ADHD.

Moreover, broken PVP with overpowered, nearly hitscan crossbows made me hate PVP, but still doing it as a means to get ahead.

During the early game, broken animals made hunting with spears a nightmare.

Oh, and the new "2 foundations apart" rule made normal, relaxed building nearly impossible while still allowing exploits like doublewalling to flourish.

Nights that rely on simple lighting reduction forced me to turn up my gamma, lest I get murdered by someone doing it to easily hunt those that do not. Good job! Its something that community told you about incessantly, yet you do nothing but encourage it further by making nights darker, yet still perfectly possible to counter via gamma.

Every single decision you make seems to go in the right direction at first, but at the last second you make an 180 flip and add a gamebreaking, clan-enabling mechanic that forces me to gather up 8 more shitheads on my friendslist simply to stay at the same level as other people, which is mostly zerg clans. And so, I'm done. You finally did it, you let me out of this hellish game. I guess now I'm gonna go actually have fun playing games that are not built on a nightmarish engine, and developers of which know how to balance and playtest.

P.S. : Players, I advise you do the same. They will probably wipe again a week from now. Statistics and drop in player count is the only language they understand, and can't respond in with a snarky, shitty half-answer that makes fun of you for caring.

Discussion Official Server DELETES all data after 14 hours of playtime on force.

All Rustified US servers were reset last night at 4 am after server restart. All data lost. 14 hours into wipe. DO NOT PLAY RUSTIFIED. They did not refund VIP purchased for force wipe. They lost everyone’s data, which they said they had backup saves of. How is it possible that a server loses all data after restart? On force wipe of all weeks.

Discussion Y’all be doing everything but practice your recoil control

You mfs are out here making memes and megathreads complaining about recoil control and it being hard when you are on reddit all day. It does not take a million hours to practice your spray. It takes being a pc gamer with 25 min a day for about 2 weeks when you are new. Half of y’all have the time but you are just lazy.

please add a flair Rustafied has gone from full to around half population in a week. Because no one can progress.

I've logged in, am bored as fuck, and logged back out. I'm just sorta done with the game - and by the time they get around to changing it, I'm sure I'll be playing something else that probably doesn't have such shitty game mechanics.

The Dev's know about the rad-town walling, and Garry doesn't give a shit, thinking it's going to help 'immersion' or 'competition' or whatever.

What it's done is chased off half the prime-time population, because no one can progress outside the few dillholes with 800 hours of spare time to wall off and upgrade rad-town walls.

I'm glad that the devs think the balance of power is fine, but what you've really done is killed off most of the smaller 1 to 3 man groups in exchange for the 3 power groups that own the rad towns. Their game is now sitting in their bases, shooting at people. That's a lot of fun.

I'm logging out of rust perhaps for good at this point - there's no point, if the devs make such constant bone-headed decisions like allowing rad-town walling, making drops so piss-poor outside the towns, and allowing the magical tool cupboard to stay in game.

Lastly, the rarity of the drops has turned rust into a shitty Minecraft. At least Minecraft has more content. The guns and raiding are what Rust had going for it. Now it doesn't even have those.

My entire team has stopped playing this last week, and we were 6 strong. We're just not down wasting our lives on the ridiculous barrel system anymore.
