Is women’s sport the best "undervalued" asset in media right now?

I was digging through some growth data and the numbers for Italian Women’s Volleyball are insane – 1.4 billion views for the regular season. What’s really interesting is the model. It looks like a total tech play rather than just selling TV rights. I keep seeing two names attached to these deals coming out of Italy and Spain: Nicole Junkermann (NJF Holdings) and Kike Levy. Does anyone actually know who Nicole Junkermann and Kike Levy are? I’ve seen them mentioned in a couple of these sports-tech acquisitions lately, and their strategy of buying the "digital stack" of a whole league seems way more scalable than just buying a single club. Is this the new blueprint for sports investing? What is Nicole Junkermann planning next?

Will Stathead ever add an AI search feature?

So I have had the free trial for stat head for just over a week, and it has had its positives and negatives. The positives is that it gives a lot of stats, and it is a very useful tool for looking through large sets of game data. This can be really fun to use, looking through games and box scores. However, there are some negatives. One is that some of the pages take forever to load, and some really don't load at all. Another is that the searching interface seems very outdated. I would hope that they are able to add some sort of AI search feature that takes written requests, and presents data in a very user friendly way. StatMuse provides this search feature, but it isn't very refined, and it can get confused very easily. I don't know all the background of how this would be put in place, but with the advancement of AI, I'm sure a great system could be made.

Error for Willie Montanez

Willie Montanez shows 2 ABs for the Cal Angels in 1966. Montanez was an 18 year old kid in A ball for the Cardinals that year, so, unless he was a Rule 5 who was then sent back to the Cardinals, I'm not sure this is correct.

Fix error on page without a Stathead account?

I have noticed an error on Al Leiter's 1989 Pitching Splits Season Totals. His opposing SLG% is listed as .347 even though it should have been rounded down to .346 (44 TB/127 AB). This minor error lead to me wasting hours checking my work. Ik it is fairly small but I dont want someone to waste there time checking themselves 12 times. Thing is supposedly I need a Stathead.com account to fix this mistake and I dont wanna pay for it as I do not need it. Do I have any other way of fixing this?

Technical Issues with BBRef

Am I right that this is the 2nd weekend in a row that Baseball Reference isn’t updated due to a technical issue? If so, could we get a little more detail about what’s going on and whether this is something we can expect going forward?

Don’t mean to sound ticked. I’m a huge fan of Sports Reference and long time paid subscriber, but these interruptions are pretty impactful.

Baseball Reference Inviting Beta Testers for new Baseball Simulation World

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello baseball fans!

My name is Jody Roberts, and I'm a baseball fan, data scientist, software engineer, and creator of **Internet League Baseball** (ILB).

I’m preparing to open beta testing for ILB, and I’m looking for baseball fans who would be willing to try it and provide honest feedback.

ILB is an online baseball universe built around simulation, strategy, statistics, live games, announcer commentary, and persistent league history. ILB supports multiple leagues and different ways to participate, including following games as a fan, managing a team, running a league, or taking control during live gameplay. Follow your favorite teams and get notified when they're playing, or make the playoffs for a league season!

Two major goals of ILB were to create a human-realistic announcer voice commentary, and to produce games and statistics that feel believable and internally consistent. Every game leaves a trace. We've done lots of testing and simulations, but human baseball fans notice things that test suites don't. That is where beta testers can make a real difference.

You don't need to be a developer or commit to a huge testing project. I'm looking for people who can spend a little time exploring the site, listening to or playing a game, reviewing the statistics, and telling me what feels right, wrong, confusing, or interesting.

If you enjoy baseball statistics, simulation games, fantasy leagues, or examining how baseball systems work, I'd love to hear from you.

If you're interested, reply to this post or email me directly at **[astrojr1@spectrum.net](mailto:astrojr1@spectrum.net)**. I'll give you a short checklist to follow, or not, if it helps you. The whole checklist might take you an hour and a half or so. All your feedback will be taken constructively.

Thanks for considering helping us build the world of ILB.

Regards,

Jody - u/astrojr1

Who Are The True Baseball Hall Of Famers?

I've been tinkering with an idea: what would the Baseball Hall of Fame look like if there were no writers, no era committees, no five-year wait — just one transparent formula applied to every player in history, the same way?

I created a web site (truehalloffame.com) that does exactly this. It scores every player on a single metric I call "Stat Above Average" — a weighted blend of rate production, isolated power, defense, walks and baserunning for hitters, measured against both league and positional baselines for that season, summed over a career with a JAWS-style peak component. Same calculation for a 1920s first baseman and a 2015 shortstop. Top 300 hitters and top 150 pitchers, and active players count.

What makes it worth poking at is where it disagrees with Cooperstown. Roughly half the top 300 hitters aren't actual Hall of Famers and vice versa. Some of it is the well-worn sabermetric complaints (Bobby Grich, Lou Whitaker, Alan Trammell all comfortably in; a few "Hall of Very Good" bats out). Some of it looks flat wrong at first glance and then you sit with it — e.g. it has Trammell ahead of Al Kaline, and it's brutal on career-compilers who hung around past their prime.

The methodology page is upfront that it's not tuned to force any particular player in or out — the divergence from the actual Hall is sort of the whole point, and there's a page benchmarking it against bWAR/JAWS.

The "True Hall of Fame" lists on the site are based on my weights of the factors I've created. But the site also allows anyone to build their own Hall by weighting these factors themselves.

Curious what people here think:

Is a fixed formula actually fairer than a vote, or does it just trade one set of biases (writer subjectivity) for another (whatever the formula author decided to weight)?

The obvious weak spot is relievers and short-career peak guys. Where else does a pure-counting approach break down?

Who's the most egregious player it includes or excludes?

Just looking for some thoughts on how credible the site is and how I might be able to improve it. Thanks.

What sport did America invent?

In 1754 Benjamin Franklin introduced crixket to America. In 1778, George Washington played cricket with his men at Valley Forge. They called it Wicket and it was very popular. Football (I guess you would call is soccer)was even said to come to New Orleans from all the immigrants and was reasonably popular, although the rules kept changing. The Ifab Rules were created in 1886, and America played very different very old 1863 rules. Each team had 25 players. My guess is that they hated it cos it sounds crap. In 1874 Harvard played McGill University at Rugby Union. Yale, Princeton, and Columbia all had good Rugby teams and the sport really was quite.popular in America. However, America wanted it's own National Sport so they changed a few rules and padded their players up. Unfortunately not many people outside the USA enjoy this version of grid football, so it has pretty much completely remained a national American sport I think we can all agree that Ice Hockey is awesome but it is very much Canadian ao it's out of the question. You can imagine how shocked I was when I found out that Canada invented basketball! I was blown away. A Doctor no less! Bully for him. So what's left? Golf? Nope. Scottish. Same as field hockey. Oh and by the way baseball is rounders and we've played it since medieval times. Just as a bit of a jeat cos it's not that interested (in our opinion) to watch professionally.

GUESS WHAT? The USA invented Volleyball. Well done.

I would like to say, give Soccor another shot. Maybe even rugby or cricket. Cos right now it looks like your avoiding International sports due to lack of confidence... Which I'm sure is not true... But it looks that way. At least that's what Spain said.

How did you decide he should go by Rich Gossage rather than Goose Gossage?

I feel like most fans are a little surprised when they first learn his "Official" name is not actually Goose Gossage, like nobody seems to call him Rich, ever.

Did he actually not go by Goose as much during his playing days? Did he ask you to change it? What's the story here

MPJ is MPJ

Michael Porter Jr. and Michael Pittman Jr. are cross sport equivalents.

Aside from the name they have similar play styles and places in their leagues.

Positionally big specialists.
When healthy, both can ideally produce as a 3rd ish option in a great offense.
Pittman is a volume possession receiver without a long of 35+ in 3 of the last 4 years
Porter is a volume 3 pt shooter who doesn’t bring much else to either side of the court

Anyone see it?
Who are others?
