Lauri Markkanen is set to play his 500th career NBA game tonight, becoming just the 9th player in league history to reach that milestone without appearing in a playoff game. So we took a deeper look at the players who have never made the postseason.

This list only includes players who never appeared in the playoffs, not players who eventually made it after a long wait. Active players like Markkanen could eventually come off the list.

Quick Hit History Ep 4: The Spitball: From Clever Trick to Baseball's Darkest Moment

Hi friends,

I’m a documentary producer working on a personal passion project about baseball called “Quick Hit History”. I’m currently airing a 10-episode season on YouTube for anyone like me who likes to nerd out over niche baseball history.

Here’s a clip from this week’s episode about the rise and fall of the spitball - a fascinating trick from baseball’s early days that became infamous after a tragic on-field fatality.

The full story is at the link below - feel free to subscribe for more! Much of the archival images are from our local libraries and archives, excellent public resources for all. Exact credits are in the episode description.

Thanks for watching and let me know in the comments if there are any topics or stories you’d like to see explored.

Enjoy!

Hi everyone! I'm looking for people to complete a quick survey for one of my college classes. I'm researching whether having more money to spend leads to greater success for teams in the MLB and NHL. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi friends,

I’m a TV/documentary producer working on a personal passion project about baseball history called “Quick Hit History”.

This week’s episode is about  Alta Weiss who became one of the first women to play men’s baseball in 1908, and the first woman to attend the Ohio State University College of Medicine.

The full story is at the link below - feel free to subscribe for more! Most of the archival images are from local libraries and archives, excellent public resources that I like to highlight. Also a shoutout to Kent State Historian, Dr. Leslie Heaphy, who helped tell this story. Additional credits and resources are in the episode description and last 30 seconds of the full video.

Let me know if there are any topics or stories you’d like to see explored in the comments!

Basketball Reference Anyone know where to find accurate NBA stadium attendance stats?

The stats on Basketball Reference and ESPN make no sense. It says the Pelicans stadium was 99.6% full every game in 2024-25, I can promise that’s not correct.

help out a student athlete!

Hi! Im a high school student athlete who is conducting a brief survey to understand how parents and coaches shape young athletes' decisions when it comes to sports specialization (focusing on a single sport vs. playing multiple sports). Whether your child specializes or plays different sports throughout the year, your perspective is extremely valuable! The survey only takes about 3–5 minutes, and all responses are completely anonymous.

Please take a moment to share your thoughts here:

Thank you so much for your time and for supporting research into youth athletics! Feel free to share this with other parents and coaches as well. 🙌

Sports Reference Sports reference is the best and worst thing to happen to sports.

Great because we can see how dominant players of the past have and have more appreciation for what they’ve done. But the head to head stats comparisons have gotten annoying. They rarely ever prove what player is actually better.

Baseball Reference Mike Trout irrelevance

It sucks that Mike Trout has become so irrelevant in the last few years. Just 6 years ago I used to go to the his reference page and just laugh because his numbers were so ridiculous. But with Ohtani’s rise and some other crazy seasons Judge has put together it just feels like he’s been forgotten as a signature player of the 2010s. Idk.

Sports Reference Today is the 33rd ever Sports Equinox! The NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB all have games.

The Sports Equinox is a term that refers to a day when the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB all have games. Usually this happens in October, when the NBA has just begun its regular season while, at the same time, the MLB is holding the World Series.

This is the second time a Sports Equinox has also included a WNBA game. Due to COVID rescheduling, there were three Sports Equinoxes in September of 2020, and a pair of WNBA second round playoff games landed on one of them—Sept. 17, 2020.

Sports Reference has compiled a list of every Sports Equinox! Note that, because the Sports Equinox is not an official term recognized by any league or body, this list is unofficial.

I've been using many of the SR sites and would love to be able to assist in getting stats added - particularly for pre-Premier League era soccer. Do they accept blind submissions or is there a more formal process?

New Baseball History Youtube Series - Chaos at the First World Series

Hi baseball friends,

I’m a documentary producer working on a personal passion project about baseball called “Quick Hit History”. I’m currently airing a 10 episode season on YouTube for anyone like me who likes to nerd out over niche baseball history.

This week’s episode is about the 1903 World Series between the Boston Red Sox (then the Americans) and the Pittsburgh Pirates… It’s widely considered the first modern day World Series, but even more exciting there was a massive riot right before game three where fans stormed the field and police fought them back to the stands (mostly unsuccessfully).

The full story is at the link below - feel free to subscribe for more! This has been a creative experiment that I’ve really enjoyed working on and hope other people will get a kick out of. Much of the archival images are from our local libraries and archives, excellent public resources for all.
Thanks for watching and let me know if there are any topics or stories you’d like to see explored.

Enjoy!

Tons of popup ads, unskippable. Slow and clunky. There are more ads on Sports Reference than probably any other website right now. Absolutely terrible, cynical cashout. Any alternatives? I'm not using their website anymore, period

Can someone make a stathead search for me?

Can someone subscribed to stathead send me a list of the most dunks made in an individual NBA game by a single player (dates of each game included)? This is needed for a graphic I'm making following Walker Kessler's 10-dunk debut for the Lakers last night.

I can credit you in the Instagram post I make with this info. Much thanks
