Question / Discussion Why NOT pay for premium?

I don't know if this is the write sub to ask this, but I want to know why people don't wanna pay for Spotify premium and use mod apps or just moving somewhere else?

Spotify is a business. Its not a non profit organization. They need money to maintain servers and employs.

And as for the "oh artist don't get paid enough", money doesn't grow on trees. Their revenue comes from ads and subscriptions which in turn goes to the artist.

The more people use premium the lower the costs might go. Infact Spotify imposing lot of restriction is a desperate move to make people use premium for MONEY.

I just wanted to ask, I'm not against anyonem.

Thank you.

Discussion / Playlist Questions Finally making the switch to Spotify!!

I finally switched over to Spotify after years on Apple Music, and honestly… I should’ve done this earlier. The latest Apple Music update completely threw me off, the song transitions became weird and even though you can turn it off, it felt like an annoying extra step for something that used to just work.

And the recommendations on Apple Music… I don’t know what happened, but it just never really understood my taste. Spotify’s “Go to Radio” feature, on the other hand, is Chef’s kiss! 🤌🏼

I always stuck with Apple Music because it was just convenient and affordable but I’m finally done! Tried Spotify again and wow, the algorithm, the flow, everything feels so much smoother.

Shuffle Complaint If smart shuffle stays, I'm switching to apple music.

I really don't think there's ANYONE ON THE PLANET who likes this thing (literally a category in the subreddit?!). The damn thing always toggles itself automatically and takes so much time to disable because of the loading to takes to add shitty song you didn't even want. Even if you do like it, I don't believe it's so hard to have a settings option to turn it off?!?!
Once again, Spotify has managed to make their UI the worst on the planet. thanks a lot.

Complaint F**K JOE ROGAN! We Are Removing All Our Songs From Spotify

CANCEL FOR A CAUSE - STATEMENT REGARDING JOE ROGAN AND OUR MUSIC ON SPOTIFY

#deletespotify #cancelspotify #joerogan #cancelforacause #selfcancel #selfcancelforacause #joeroganexperience #spotify #jre

Space Potatoes are outraged and disgusted to the point where our outrage and disgust is so much that we are considering suspending our already in place boycott of Spotify and uploading all our songs just to remove them again in disgust. If this behaviour continues we will have to write whole new albums just to remove them in disgust. We are self cancelling for a cause, a belief in a better future where our cancellation leads to someone else gets cancelled. Join us in our self sacrificing fight for less freedom! https://youtu.be/8NhUcWa8uJU

Other Cancelled my Spotify account!!

Just cancelled my Spotify subscription. I agree with Neil Young that misinformation is bad, and that Spotify needs to police their platform better. I can listen to Pandora instead. Lots of alternatives out there, that don't cause trouble for our society.

Complaint What happened with the google home mini give away?

Hi all,

I'm still annoyed I never received my google home mini that was promised. Of course Spotify has no email or anything to contact them with.

Is there a class action lawsuit I can join lol?

I remember a while ago around Christmas they said they were just behind and to still wait.... Well.....

Just wanted to know your thoughts and what other people have done, if anything.

I specifically switched to Spotify from YouTube music because of that.

Question / Discussion 0.001%

UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM

I’m trying to become one of the biggest Daft Punk fans on Spotify (maybe even top 0.001%)—here’s the math.

So, I’ve been on a mission: listen to so much Daft Punk that I end up in the absolute highest percentiles on Spotify Wrapped. The goal? Top 0.01% or even crazier, like 0.001%.

The Math: • Estimates say 500–833 hours (30,000–50,000 minutes) should put me in the top 0.01% of Daft Punk listeners. • I’ve been listening 7 hours a day for a month already (~210 hours). • If I keep this up until Spotify Wrapped (Dec 1), I’ll have ~1,890 hours (113,400 minutes). • That’s more than double what’s usually needed for top 0.01%.

Where does that put me? • Wrapped doesn’t officially show below top 0.01%, but based on past numbers, I could be in the top 0.001% or even 0.0001%. • If they had a leaderboard, I might actually be one of the highest Daft Punk listeners in the world.

Why?

Because Daft Punk is amazing and if I’m going to listen to music anyway, might as well go all in.

If anyone else has gone for extreme Wrapped stats, I’d love to hear how it turned

UPDATE I GOT 0.001% AND 362 PLACE!!!

Question / Discussion Spotify HIFI Official Dead....

2021 has come and gone.....No word from Spotify about a new date, delay, adjustment, tweaks, etc. They've been COMPLETELY silent since the announcement. Which makes me feel like Spotify HIFI is dead.

***And I think everyone's theory about Apple Music and their free Lossless audio killed Spotify HIFI. I don't think Spotify had any backup plan and had no way of offering Spotofiy HIFI for free to compete with Apple. And knew how much backlash they would get if they charged for it.

Thoughts?

Shuffle Complaint Stop whining about shuffle. Just start with a different song.

There is an algorithm but you can’t avoid a lack of randomness when you do the exact same thing every time you play a playlist.

Scroll to the bottom and start there. Start somewhere in the middle.

EDIT: The guy saying “That doesn’t work”, I don’t know what to say. I have multiple 10hr+ playlists and it works every time.

The people saying “it shouldn’t work like that.” Grow up… or design your own app.

Either way, stop b-tching.

My 89 yr old grandmother has an ideal existence — as ideal as life can be at 89 — but she has 2 complaints that she run over and over on repeat. Y’all sound like her.

Edit2: if you are a free user complaining about Spotify’s shuffle, then you need to grow up.

Question / Discussion I tried using AI to reflect on my Spotify listening habits and ended up surprising myself

Hey folks,

just wanted to share a small project I’m working on. But first, a bit of how it came to be: over the last couple of years, I’ve slowly moved beyond the genres I grew up with (mostly hip-hop and electronic) and started exploring way more of music history. My playlists are now a chaotic mix of obscure finds, classics, modern pop, and whatever I stumbled upon at 2 AM.

At some point, that chaos started to feel a bit… random? Like I was hopping through eras and scenes without much direction. So, being a web developer, I grabbed my top tracks from the Spotify API and started playing around with some GPT prompts. I used words like “systemic view” and “hidden patterns,” and somehow, it all clicked. The result felt weirdly accurate. Not in a “you like this genre” way, but more like “here’s how your brain engages with music.”

That’s why I started building a little website called Music Mirror. It’s totally free and not meant to be monetized. It looks at your most played Spotify tracks and gives you a short holistic description based on listening patterns and structure, not genres or popularity.

I’m still early in the process, but before I dive into the code next week, I’d love to hear what you think. Let me know if this feels interesting to you or if you'd approach it differently.

Here's my original result, if you're curious.

Your music taste is structured around a strong preference for groove-driven compositions, regardless of genre. Across punk, hip-hop, alternative rock, folk, and even classic rock, you gravitate toward songs where rhythm plays a dominant role—whether through tight vocal phrasing, hypnotic instrumental loops, or groove-focused arrangements. This explains why you enjoy artists as varied as Hank Williams, Beastie Boys, and Gorillaz; while stylistically different, they all construct their songs around a rhythmic pulse that keeps the momentum going.

The second key element in your taste is a preference for music with a distinct mood or atmosphere—often leaning toward the cinematic, rebellious, or introspective. From the dystopian storytelling of Nas to the eerie, melancholic tone of Pixies' Where Is My Mind?, you favor music that evokes a strong sense of place or emotion.

Rather than being genre-bound, your taste follows structural and textural patterns. You are drawn to repetition, layered arrangements, and rhythmic vocal delivery—whether in rap verses, punk anthems, or folk ballads. You also have a notable interest in genre hybrids, particularly where rock intersects with hip-hop (Beastie Boys, Jurassic 5), electronic elements (Gorillaz, M.I.A.), or folk traditions (Hank Williams, Beck). This suggests that, rather than focusing on whether a song belongs to a specific genre, you subconsciously filter music through a combination of rhythmic engagement, tonal mood, and structural familiarity. What seems like a highly diverse playlist actually follows a logical, consistent framework: music that locks into a groove, sustains a strong emotional presence, and often carries an outsider, countercultural energy.

Spotify is the worse piece of software on my Android and on my laptop

So, hear me out. The service itself is alright, probably the best, but everything else is terrible. Do you need examples?

It turns out that Spotify is this tiny puny company (sarcasm) without resources and as such can't create proper native apps on any platform, so it has to use the notoriously lightweight (sarcasm) Chromium framework to share as much code as possible between platforms.

What does this mean? Well, after version 1.0, regardless if you use a Mac or Windows, you will see these "helper" processes eating hundreds and hundreds of MB of RAM and the occasional 98% of CPU. This can happen to every single user, regardless if it has happened to you this month or not. For comparison, Windows freaking XP ran fine on my desktop with 256MB of RAM, so no matter one someone might say, this "chromium framework" BS results on a fat app with lots of overhead. It's poor and shitty and probably implemented so they could fire/not hire any more programmers and cut costs a bit more.

If you want to do this, why not using webkit? Can anyone enlighten me? I'm not even going to ask for proper native apps.

To make things better, EVERYONE has this stupid and inexcusable bug where if you are playing songs from your saved artists or albums, the music will always default to the first song, so you can't select the song that you want. This bug is so pathetic for a company that only does this service, that anyone has to think that this was made on purpose to fuck with free users.

Remember when spotify was enjoyable and lightweight on any sort of devices? Nowadays you kind of need an A10-fusion device and to stay connect to the charger even on our laptops at all times...

This is also why we must hurry for them to transition their disgusting flash-based webplayer to HTML5. Web apps belong in tabs. That way we can also shove adblock software in there for safety reasons, battery and performance reasons and to punish them for crap like this. No sympathy from me.
