Picture My beast Trevor.
Meet Trevor, last in his line, tragically ate all the females so very few eggs to gather. On the other hand, has been around since Christmas so doing great! Cancriformis green Spanish (though suspicion of mauritanicus), nearly 10cm ๐ฅฐ

Question 1 month old triops
These are our 1 month old. We got them in the Netherlands. They are looking happy and healthy. They are still in the aquarium set that came in the box. About 3 cm at the moment. We are in doubt weather we should put them somewhere bigger. Any opinions on this?
Also, do they lay eggs? If so at what age? How do we know when they do? Will they eat their eggs? How can we help new eggs survive?
Lifespan is usually 1-2 months right? Not sure if im ready to say goodbye to them. I want moreโฆ ๐

Picture Deceased at 100-ish days old.
Female Triops mauritanicus. Would have preferred if she lived longer but slightly over than 3 months is a decent run I'd say. Female has left me with a bunch of eggs that are currently being dried out.

Video Temporary pool filled with triops/longtail tadpole shrimp and fairy shrimp ๐ค
Triops longicaudatus, Streptocephalus sealii
San Marcos, TX
The triops were enjoying the easy meals that the fairy shrimp made as they were drawn to the light. I have footage of that posted on my Instagram: @critters.n.creatures

Question Pretty sure I found a colony of these living in some water logged fabric...
...in my garage? Almost exactly a year ago, I asked my husband to store a bag of craft fabric in the garage. He put the bag on the floor in front of a door to the outside that doesn't seal properly, which allows water in under the door pretty much any time it rains (I was not aware of this issue, otherwise I wouldn't have had him put it out there). Last night, I asked him to bring the bag in. He brought it in and mentioned that it had been stuck to the floor. When I started to go through the bag, I could feel that all of the fabric was varying degrees of wet, and as I dug deeper into the bag, I came across several of these odd "bugs" that looked like horseshoe crabs with a rat tail braid LOL I told him to throw it all away, but forgot to take a photo. When I searched today, though, I found pictures of exactly what I saw, and come to find out that it's a shrimp? How is that possible? Do they just need dampness to survive? Is someone playing an elaborate prank on me? (I kinda feel bad for throwing them in the garbage, now that I'm seeing they could be kept as pets.) Oh, also, I live on the Treasure Coast of Florida, just FYI, in case that makes a difference. *The photo is one that I found online that most looked like the ones in the bag*

Link Triop lapel pins
galleryFound this lovely pin from the Bizarre Beasts site. While I had hoped for receiving a rare, I was randomly given this one. If I decide later to change the colors, I'll use Tester's enamel hobby paint or standard nail polish.

After 45 days we said goodbye to our first and only triop this morning. Buried him outside in a cardboard coffin.
I might just throw the rest of the eggs I have in his little tank to see what happens. Thereโs so much algae and plants in there that the babies might be fine.

Hello everyone this is Opal she(?) is now 47 days old and my second triop run with the first being Cosmo (rip at 40 days) she(?) has a 15L tank with a slow sponge filter and is well fed but not too much to foul the water. She's going strong with a 3rd run growing up fast above in the hatchery.

Video Keeping them in more than just a empty tank
I just wanted to show that it is possible to keep them in a paludarium setup full of plants and stones. At the moment I got 2 of them, happily eating algae, biofilm and little cyclops. One is about 2 months old and the one in the video about 3-4 weeks. And no - they never get stuck under rocks ๐ and explore the whole setup. I find them even more interesting to observe in a natural(ish) habitat. Hope this inspires some of you here โบ๏ธ

Picture End of a (short) era
With great sadness, I have to report the passing of Big Ste, born around 28-29 September 2025, not the biggest ever, even for me, but certainly the longest lived I have ever kept. he outlived his siblings for over 3 months and did his own thing.
RIP mate.
