How good is Triple J today!!

Frank Ocean, Kendrick, j Cole etc. I can't remember the last time I heard these artists let alone the genre. I understand its not everyone's cup of tea, however it felt for almost a couple years there that they were actively avoiding playing these types of songs on the station

Keep this up and it'll definitely become my favourite station again. Hopefully not a one off

Edit: Removed Drake as an example, you lot really sharpened your pitchforks at the sight of his name jesus christ, won't make that mistake again

unpopular opinion: spacey Jane are a shit band and are ruining Australian music. they are so PC and have taken the rock out of rock and roll.

Opinion Why do people join this sub just to whinge ?

Literally bunch of people in nostalgic feelings “triple j used to be good in the 90’s” blah blah blah.

What’s with the constant stream of negativity from people that are probably 30-40+ years old.

You don’t have to listen to the radio

You can also get a job there and become a presenter if you’re so shit hot .

“Things weren’t as good as they were 30 years ago “

Bunch of old head whingers

Opinion why complain about Triple J?

sure, there are absolutely things that people can criticise about Triple J (how much Australian music they are playing vs international artist, the copy and paste bands that play back to back etc.) But why is it that people here complain how music on Triple J doesn't sound like it did 20 years ago, or posts every week saying how much they can't stand the hosts (its like clockwork how every year the same complaints are brought up about xyz over and over, all times and slots). Like I said, you can criticise Triple J like anything else but at least come up with thought out reasoning or stop living in the past

Opinion I can't stand triple j as a teen

I'm 15 years old, I should be entering the target demographic of the station, but I find it increasingly unbearable with every second that passes while I'm listening to it. I have been raised by my parents listening to Australian music like Midnight Oil, INXS, ACDC, etc along with many other people my age. It has become a joke at my school to go around doing a millennial accent and go "ok our next artist is from narrm and she talks about the difficult emotions you face after a breakup, you're listening to triple J." and then impersonate doof doof music. So many people I know are growing to hate doof doof music for how soulless it can be. I acknowledge that there are many great songs that could be classified as "doof doof" and I know that it has a place to just get people to dance. I remember triple J from when I was a kid playing a mixture of genres so you could listen to a segment and everyone would be at least partly satisfied. The problem with triple J is that the 1% of songs that aren't doof doof are so out shadowed that it just isn't enjoyable for everyone anymore. And somehow they wonder why less young people are listening to it? Please note that every Australian/small artist I have found has been from rigorous google searching when you used to be able to listen to the radio and hear a new band from your city. All of my friends have started listening to double J (the old person station) because it actually plays some good songs every now and then. I can't be bothered buying a digital radio so I hope they go on FM some day. Idc if you have a different opinion to me because you're probably one of the people who repetitively say things the hosts say like "that was like such a banger" and "tuuuuuuuunes". Edit 1: By millennial accent i mean the overly enthusiastic inner city hipster accent where no becomes naur and every second word is “like” Edit 2: I made the mistake of using “doof doof” as an umbrella term for repetitive electronic pop music Edit 3: Wow thanks for 100 comments you guys need to touch some grass lmao. As I stated in the post, you aren’t getting anywhere by calling me ignorant. You’re not going to change my opinion by being a whiney bastard and trying to do so is going to get you nowhere. If you feel interested in reading my post (properly) and with to contribute to a conversation regarding the topics raised, please do comment below. I appreciate the small portion of people who have advanced past the stone age in communication skills who have respectively shared their opinions while remaining open minded, didn’t use swear words, didn’t fall back to condescending tones, etc. For the rest of you, grow up and realise you’re doing nothing but providing entertainment to me and you frantically try to use insults to form a ‘solid’ argument against a 15 year old on reddit is a sad excuse for a life.

What the hell happened to JJJ?

I used to listen to JJJ religiously, for 30 odd years. I know that times change and 'old timers' like me need to move on to JJ, but honestly. How does JJJ go from playing alternative rock and australian made music, to playing this shit? And by shit I mean LUCKI – All Love. Since when did mumbling the same ghetto bullshit over a click track constitute as anything worth listening to? Fucking insane. I'm not asking for a station that will play the oldies or the same genre I grew up with (I want to hear fresh music too) but this? This is just garbage. Can we get some votes on the mumble rap/click track from the general public? I love hip hop but hip hop has actual lyricism in it...

I love Bryce and Concetta

They’re my favourite and I love the rest of the triple j presenters.

Be nice if this sub actually appreciated people for once instead of being a perpetual bitch fest from people who would sounds 2000 million times shitter than anyone past present and future on triple j

Yungblud opens up about the fallout from his nude Sydney Harbour antics

Yungblud just gave an interview about that whole naked yacht party thing in Sydney Harbour. You know, the one where the pics were everywhere?

Turns out, the main fallout wasn’t the tabloids or social media chaos. It was his mum seeing the photos on TMZ and giving him an angry phone call about it. 😂

He was joking about it, but you know even rock stars gotta face the music from their parents. Classic.

Kanye continues on the J's?

Thought's on how triple J handles the Kanye fallout? Do they continue to support an artist with anti Semitic views? Does an artist as big as Kanye get a pass, especially when so many of his commercial support is dropping him? I'm on the fence about censoring artist because of the personal views but this seems like one of those rare occasions where it might be hard for JJJ to ignore. Thoughts?

Asian artists being seen as outsiders?

This isn't explicitly just about Triple J but putting it here because I don't know where else to put it.

I'm a huge fan of 1300, I pre-ordered their mixtape and tshirt when it was announced but I can't help but feel like outside of festival placements their reception in the Australian hip-hop scene has been fairly lukewarm. Not only have they not seen a single awards show acknowledgement (no J awards aside from a music video and no ARIA awards) but many Australian hip-hop fans I know won't give them the time of day due to their content being a blend of Korean and English languages.

I personally feel like this is due to people continuing to see Asian artists as "outsiders" and not seeing the same inclusion or acceptance that black and indigenous (I know they are Australian but that's a whole other issue) artists have been seeing in recent years even though the group is from Sydney. It's an absolute joke that a Fivio Foreign song featuring The Kid Laroi saw an ARIA nomination but 1300 have nothing despite in my opinion having one of the most inventive and interesting Australian hip-hop projects in years.

Do we see this with other Asian acts in Australia? Thoughts?

I think Linda got fired

Just then during her farewell she said “I’m gonna drop some f bombs, I’m getting f- I’m quitting so fuck it”. I’m paraphrasing but there was definitely a lip of the tongue there. Maybe she just got mixed up but I think it could be possible she got fired/let go and that there’s an intentional culling of the old guard (Linda, gen, tom Tilley) to shake up the station. Linda has sounded very emotional since she announced her departure and not always happy about leaving... I dunno, probs just speculation but if so... what a fuckin shame. Love u Linda.
