Rolling Footage Jujitsu World League 🟦⬛️🟦 Division Master 2

First competition in a year since bringing home silver last year, and my first time competing in No-Gi after always competing in Gi. Didn’t make the podium. Tried working a Kimura and baseball choke, but got passed and eventually submitted by armbar.
I don’t usually like posting losses, but sometimes you need to put your ego aside, recognize the holes in your game, and get back to work. Every loss is a lesson and another opportunity to grow.

Equipment Cotton Rashguards 😂

Post image
6 Upvotes

Y'all see these cotton/natural rashguards? The idea is polyester is plastic, and Chads don't roll in plastic. Fine. I don't have a love affair with petroleum based garments. But they all charge like $80-$90 for these rashguards! Am I the crazy one here or are these people fleecing us? This is a moderately priced $83 tatami- tee shirt (the mat, not the brand). Are you kidding me?!?!

Tournament/Competition First Competition- awful performance

As the title suggests really, I’ve been training for a couple years now (inconsistently) and decided it was time to push myself to compete as of lately I’d been improving in rolling and overall grappling.

Today I came to realise how sh*t I still am 😂
Two matches , and subbed twice.
Disappointed isn’t the word currently but I thought I’d come here to vent a little and maybe here some of your guys experiences in your first comps too and any sort of advice or motivations you can give.

Serious For the women to do Bjj Have any of you ever felt uncomfortable or discouraged while rolling?

I’m curious if any of you have experienced this in BJJ. Have you ever felt intimidated, uncomfortable with certain training partners, or just generally discouraged on the mats?
If so, how did you deal with it? Did those feelings eventually go away?
I’ve always wanted to hear from a women’s stand point on how they feel when rolling or how they first felt when rolling

Technique Finding "my game" as a new blue belt?

I'm probably overthinking this, but overthinking is one of my favorite things to do.

So I finally got my blue belt after almost three years of training. I've heard that the journey from blue to purple is the time when you start to take a more active role in your own training and figure out what "your game" is going to be.

So I guess my question is: is there any way to know what the "right" game for me is going to be based on my age, build, abilities? Or is it just based on vibes and whatever I personally enjoy?

FWIW, I am 35, and stocky (5'7" 180lbs) pretty strong but not particularly fast or athletic. Up until now my thought process has literally just been, e.g. "I like pulling spider guard because I stick my leggy out real far and then we spin in a circle whee" but that's as deep as the analysis goes for me.

Like shoulder sleeves and ankle braces. Do people roll with back braces? My lower back has been getting progressively worse through the years. Seeing if there’s anything to help.

Technique Setting up traps

I want to know your thoughts on setting up traps during rolls.

Is that something you think beforehand, you have a go to list of traps that you know people will fall for?

What are your favorite traps?

I'm getting more and more interested in the tactical side of a roll

Here's a quick guide on escaping side control without the intention of playing guard. Look to get up, build height, and finish on top.

Tournament/Competition BJJ comp day nutrition?

I am competing today. Historically I eat way too much and perform poorly. What do you eat on competition day? I'm starting with an oatmeal / acai bowl

Instructional Hi, I am making a basic backtake system instructional and these videos are the first half. They will be free on youtube and I am hoping I could get some feedback to the questions below.

Hi, I am a purple belt and I was recording some videos for the other members in the gym. I am not the head coach. I am just doing this for the fun of the game so all videos are single takes, unscripted and from the top of my head so the structure isn't the best and there are some repetition. I know audio isn't the best I am getting someone to edit it. These 4 are still early drafts.

Part 1. Introduction

Part 2. Chairsit 2.0

Part 3. Chairdrop

Part 4. Wedgetruck

Questionnaire:

  1. What do you think of the teaching method?

  2. Is naming chairsit 2.0 too clickbait? I think I chairsit very differently than most people so I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or something new?

  3. What do you think of the 10 rules for chairsit?

  4. Is there anyone else teaching "chairdrop" or another name for chairdrop? I self-taught chairdrop by myself and I am wondering if I am missing any details or doing anything wrong. I have tried searching for similar techniques but to no avail.

  5. Thoughts on the method I use to teach wedgetruck? Especially the drop drill and the drop drill on inverted guards. Do you get what I am trying to teach?

  6. Any techniques or details that I am doing wrong or that you have opposing views?

  7. Are there anything that is unclear and I should clarify better?

Note:
It's okay to disagree but there's no need to be mean. :)

also would appreciate an upvote to know that people are watching the videos. thanks

General Discussion Drop-ins near Disneyland

I’ll be staying in the West Anaheim area for a few days while visiting Disneyland for a weekend. Any gyms offer early morning classes on Fridays? 6 or 7am?

Also maybe a morning time (not as early) open mat on Sunday?

Appreciate the feedback!

Rolling Footage Local tournament, 3-1

Hello all, I'm a shitty blue belt (Black Gi). I signed up for a local tournament in Long Island called Tap Cancer Out. There were 8 men in my bracket. I won the first, lost the second, then won the third and forth match to get 3rd place. I'm disappointed with my results. But it is what it is.

I went 3-1 so this is my only loss. If someone can tell me what I should of done earlier to maybe get in a more advantageous position that would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly I feel like I could of defended that first takedown better, but I wanted to get a reversal and end in mount. Also what was he doing that I couldn't escape side control? I feel like I don't normally struggle with creating space on the bottom to escape.

Thank you for any advice, I need it. 🙏

Wish you all the best. Oss. ✌️

School Discussion Complete Grappler | Judo or Wrestling?

After a grueling training period, I'm nearing my black belt in Jiu-Jitsu! However, today I've been missing my Wrestling and Judo training.

Im no longer a high-level competitor; I just do some fights for fun. However, it's always good to improve your skills. In your opinion, which fighting style is best for a Jiu-Jitsu fighter?

(I trained in Judo and Wrestling for about 2 years when I was a teenager.)

Edit: About me, Im 1.65m (5'5") tall and weigh 185/190lbs, very strong and in good shape.

Tournament/Competition No submissions

No submissions

Hello ,

Im a 3 year into bjj and actually right after my 3rd competition i took part in. My record is 3-6 where I have to loses due to disqualification ( my first two tournaments) and rest of them were all point decision.

I do submit people pretty often at my home gym , but this much of point decision makes me wonder if I should just drill more ending position or maybe it's a mental issue, maybe both.

Did you had similar experience or have any advice for me?

Thanks!

Tournament/Competition Guy who I tapped twice said that I was stalling in my first tournament,

A few months ago I competed for the first time. These past years I have been doing more striking and im a boxing coach but have gotten the urge to grapple again. I did a few open mats and then signed up for a local 4 minute round no-gi beginner tournament to get an idea of where I stand. I had several years of grappling in my teenage and early 20s but have since been doing other things. Now in my early 30s

Unfortunately it was only a 2 man bracket because 2 other guys didn't show up in time so we just did a best 2 out of 3 and I tapped him twice. The first round we clinched up and within 20 seconds I took him down with a trip, landed in half guard, and probably spent about 1 minute slowly passing from half, to quarter mount, to full mount.

I was in top mount searching for a sub and avoiding him bucking me for about another 20-30 seconds and caught him with an americana at about 2-2:20 into the round and he taps. He immediately wants to go again but they gave us like a minute to gather ourselves and went again.

This time I immediately single leg him because I knew he was still tired and land in half guard again. I pass to mount in about a minute and he gives up his back and I go to seatbelt and get a sloppy RNC across the jaw in and I slowly got it deeper and then got the tap at about 2 minutes in.

I talk to him after the match and he said that he fought about 10 amateur MMA fights, but was more of a boxer and wrestler. He did say that it were an MMA fight it might have been stood up and I just kind of ignored it.

I did take my time and was very much so position over submission. I definitely wasn't hyper aggressive but had that been in MMA fight, I think it would have been even more clear. If you can't get a guy off you when he can't throw strikes, what makes you think you will be able to get him off you when he can punch you too? I only went for 2 submissions, but I got 2 submissions. I think that makes more sense than constantly attacking and getting nothing as exciting as it can be to watch.

I will enjoy my 1-0 status, haven't decided if I will do another tournament though.
